    I started a few months ago and I have 24 costumers. Communication is key and trust as well! I’m a solo operator! I only do a certain amount to not burn myself out and I love doing each ones house!

      @gary clark not everyone knows how to cut. I know people that will cut your grass, and you won't have to worry about it the rest of the season. Cause it will be right down to the dirt..

    • @silentdarkness6260
      @silentdarkness6260 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @gary clark yeah kids can do it but they normally don't make a business out of it lol. When you're cutting 8 yard a day, on top of that you have properties that you do mulch jobs, deweed the whole property. Also land grading. A lot more to Landscaping then just mowing

    Appreciate the tip for the Gravely 32. I get a great cut at 2.5" and wouldn't really want to go lower, but I had no clue that you had to move the belt if you did want to go real low.

    I really like your comments about taking your time and switching things up a little bit to have some variety. We wouldn't want a surgeon to rush on our surgeries to get out and go golfing or get to the next surgery. "Time is money" mantra only works to a certain point for the quality of one's life. If we can't do things mindfully and with joy, I believe we should not do them at all.

    I went from 30 to 10 when I not only raised my prices but only do full service contracts. I put out some yard signs and got 15 new full service customers and have filled the rest of my schedule with landscape jobs. Then I started getting customers from snow removals that I did. Trust the process.

    I 've said this before. You and your partner perform the crispest edges I've seen and compared too other lawn Company on TH-cam. You cats are smooth on the curves, straight even on long direct shots..." Over the Target"

  • @jasonmiller1512
    @jasonmiller1512 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another thing is when hiring more guys is you have to make certain you hire people that know what their doing. I've had guys that couldn't string a trimmer, cutting too low, pouring the wrong fuel in, and filling on the lawn. Alot just think its about going out and just cutting. Is your equipment running correctly, are you blades sharp, is the deck level?? Think about your work, take your time with your work, be respectful to the client and explain things to them. You should never have a problem. I've had most of my same clients for years. And they pay more without me even asking.

  • @groundeffects3032
    @groundeffects3032 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Every customer deserves the same good job you did the first time you serviced their property. Don't get relaxed. I've taken on at least 6 new properties this spring because the current service provider isn't doing the job they were doing in the beginning of their services. Stay on point. There is always someone behind you that wants to do what your doing.

  • @KF1
    @KF1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Good idea. I get a lot of extra work just by chatting with customers and the topic of tree trimming etc will come up. A lot of people don't think about things like getting the eaves cleaned, but are open to having them done. Aeration is something I notice people ask about on repeat for the next year, so one aeration sale can turn into a recurring addition to cleanup.

  • @horatiobeaker

    Residential customer turn-offs: Heavy commercial equipment on a residential lawn & not reclosing the gates before you leave.
    The main reason I bought my own equipment and started taking care of my own lawn was because the guys, who strictly did residential lawns, continued to buy bigger and heavier mowers which were tearing up the yard and wearing tires grooves in the yard. Secondly, I got tired of coming home only to find the gates open and having to chase down our dogs after dark, not realizing the gates had been left wide open.

  • @bitsofwoodworkshop9393
    @bitsofwoodworkshop9393 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I put the larger tires from a 36 on my 32. Surprisingly it didn’t add any significant width but made a huge difference with rutting.

    Completely agree w you on maximizing sales w existing customers. That’s what we try to do. We take on new jobs all the time, but limit them, as to not overwhelm ourselves. Being the lawn supervisor/pesticide applicator, I’m on peoples property more than anyone in the company. Lawn crews are on properties more than anyone in general. We’ve been teaching the guys to look for more work at our existing properties. Great advice man!!!

    • @Draega007

      That's why I'm scared to hire anyone for my lawncare business, you start picking up yards to cover their pay and the next thing you know they quit. Now you're stuck with 20+ yards on top of what you did solo before you hired anyone.

  • @edwardgarea7650
    @edwardgarea7650 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Just simple common sense. Take care of the customers you already have, lest you stretch your self so thin you end up taking care of no one. The only other realistic option is to expand, but that only brings its own headaches and there’s a loss of control as you can’t be there with your crews. There are few things worse than having to put out customer fires having only second hand information. You also give the impression of no longer being there: “He always came himself to take care of us, but now he sends a crew of strangers. Maybe it’s time to get a new lawn man.” And then you have to get new customers to fill the void and it becomes a vicious circle.

    I think you do a great job and i've learned a lot from watching your videos, you've helped me step up my standards of service. I do want to give you one small piece of criticism in regards to your reasoning for not growing. Good employees are everywhere, just like kids they only know what you teach them; its your job to maintain standards instead of cutting grass... the job dynamic just changes if you want to grow.. it's not harder or easier it's just quite literally a different job. Customer service become your job as the owner once you've outgrown what you yourself can manage... the thing is that it's not a business unless it can operate without you. Do you own a business or are YOU the business?

      That seems like a great deal! If that dealer is in North Texas and you don’t want it, let me know!

      Considering I just priced a new 32" pro stance at $7400, that's a steal with only 12 hrs

    Man I want 10 customers a day, 4 days a week. That's 80 customers. I'm looking for the retired or rich guy that dont wanna mow, trim or blow his grass...
    Theres nothing wrong with an Army retirement check and about 50k of lawncare money to supplement it.
    Little bit of red gravy, I ain't to lazy!!!! Lol
