That last stock against Catomic was actually an incredible example of abusing an opponent relying too heavily on their momentum. No doubt about having momentum can be a big boost, but after losing the second stock, moving to the ledge or just out of range of Incineroar’s hotspots really allowed you to bait them like you said. A few good punishes in each exchange and then a fast reaction Dair > Bair kill got you the game. The entirety of that game was lending momentum in Incineroar’s favor, allowing him to really go in, land some good hits and reads, and get some quick kills like your second stock. But you close to 100% calm (ignoring natural error of some panic because of being at high percent which is understandable, we are perfect) and let the fact that they wanted to use their momentum to seal the game be the fuel that would get them running towards your bait, ignoring the brick walls right behind the line. Being calm as a player is a big deal, and especially as Falco. See my other comment about your recovery against Sheik for another example of how being calm especially pays off when you’re playing someone like Falco.
CatomicBomb It made perfect sense don’t worry. I’m aware of conditioning and it’s importance yes, but I think him opting to to grab may have been more of an adaptation. I think a better way of conditioning would include maybe using against while at ledge, and when he recognizes that you attempt to use Revenge to counter the lasers for a boost, he might shoot one laser and nothing more, you use down b but counter nothing and he runs in and Fsmash/Dsmash’s. This makes it active pressure that he purposefully uses to evoke a reaction that he can abuse later by setting up the same conditions later that will then benefit him.
Question: Why'd you go for a back throw at 4:35 instead of a forward throw? It would have set up an edge guard situation. (I'm a noob so sorry if dumb question)
Kenyon Butler well it’s not the most optimal thing to do . But it was d.i mix up and to throw my opponent off since they expect a forward throw . But I had done it a couple times prior so he was ready for it . So once in a while is good since it can potential lead to a f tilt follow up ! . I do it a lot in tourney and it gets people off guard so it works to an extent but don’t do it multiple times in a match since they will be ready and the surprise factor is gone !

well honestly, frenzy and I played about 6 matches and through out the session I beat him every time until he started to slow it down, which is crazy to think that a character like falco can actually pressure sheik, but he started to win when he played more defensively
@@MetaTrixx I appreciate it! Ideally, I want to know what I can expect if the opponent can adapt! I did edit my original comment for more questions, but the big one for me is whether Falco is more versatile than Mario in this game!
@@Alakazam2047 if you want my irrelevant opinion, I'd say Mario because he can pressure shield better with his back air and his up smash actually exists. He also has debatably better edgeguarding because of his better aerial drift and options like cape. He can also play more keep away with retreating bairs and fireballs where as falco lasers and bair are too laggy to use out of a back jump. But that's just my opinion
Cool video, as a Mario main, who has some of the same weaknesses as Falco (short range, unability to properly zone, unreliable kill confirms), i think I should apply some of this playstyle changes to myself. I struggle a lot against Marcina so this should be useful. Thanks!
I’ve noticed that you do a lot of forward-tilts to hopefully a techchase and I’m wondering why you never after the laserlock for more pressure and probalbly an easier punish? I usually do it and feels like my opponent shits their pants and rolls to centerstage lol
I disagree that falco wins against lucina and marth, you just played the matchup extremely well and capitalized very heavily on the marth's mistakes. If a marth over commits and underestimates falco's burst range they will ultimately get less reward in their interactions than falco will. The marth was also using tilts in scramble up close situations which is unecessary and plays into falcos main advantages against marth. I feel with an understanding of the options falco has out of the corner and understanding how patient the falco is being will give you problems at ledge for sure. That's just marth's thing, He operates at roll distance. I do feel however you have a solid gameplan against marth. your conditioning and mixing up your escapes from the corner was genius. the down tilt after neutral getup after usually shielding heavily at ledge was very smart at 4:03.
I love how you recovered against Frenzy when he attempted to edge guard you. You where very aware of Sheik’s aerials and where they could you hit you from, as well as how many moves she could throw out and in what order those moves would most likely be used. Since you drifting towards ledge from higher up, she had more opportunity to use Fair, Nair, and Bair without using a double jump beforehand, and she can save the use of a potential bouncing fish for later which I believe during your second stock, was exactly the case. While Falco can recover from a fairly great difference with his side b and high double jump, without either his recovery becomes much more fragile and you’re aware of this, so you drifted away or in place near a safe aware keeping your options available until Sheik’s options began to exhaust themselves or when the moment was right to recover, meaning you never followed a sort of perfect pattern in most cases, and with Sheik relying on gimps to kill, this really let you stay in the match for the long haul. You definitely could play more aggressive in that MU since she doesn’t particularly outrange Falco by much or at all, but you don’t take that as blindly attacking at any moments notice, whether appropriate or not. You know WHEN to be aggressive and when not to be, something lower level players don’t quite grasp as well.
im glad you pointed out those things with regards to recovery cause I know for a fact that a ton of players would not have been aware of the dangers off when and where sheik can strike and end falco really early. PS I want to do a video with you and swigs for "falco vs the spacies"
I used to think Falco vs Marth or Lucina were both even match ups, but after seeing this I can actually understand the argument for Falco straight up winning. I wonder how the other elite Falco players (like Juice, daze, Active, Jaxter, LarryLurr, etc) would react if he heard you say that tho.
I'm great at the patience game. I struggle against faster characters because I haven't developed that play style yet. I'm going to rewatch this and see how much I can pick up.
13:40 You need to work on your Melee recovery angles. I think you could've been safe if you were sliding up the stage more. I could be wrong, but it's a thought.
I love the videos, but I think you could better use silence in your commentary. I just felt like in some parts of the shiek match a lot of what you were saying was forced or to fill the silence.. it distracted from the important things you were saying or what I’m watching. Nevertheless it was still really informative.
I really needed this video, sure I can apply this different play styles in my next Practice and sure in my next tourney and I have 1 question, How do I play against a G&W? Hope you get more subs!!!
Jesus Gonzalez I’m not Trixx and I don’t play Falco but I can give a tip. Against his shield be as safe as possible, try not to get carried away. This is to respect his up b, which is just absurdly fast out of shield. And even after he uses it, a good G&W knows how to use his options well. They will mix between different drift patterns, use dair, airdodges to platforms, etc. And don’t get too hasty when attempting to punish his Dash Attack or any of his smash attacks either. If you intend to juggle him I’d suggest trying to shark under any particular platform near him as he’s in the air after an up b, then going for a punish after an Utilt if you’re Falco, if you get a really good read an Usmash will kill early since he’s light but that move is inconsistent. They can also use the up b to try and edge guard you after going for a few bairs offstage so don’t exclude that option when recovering. And lastly, to avoid taking damage from Uair, don’t be too hasty trying to escape from that move, they know that and are looking for a punish from an impatient victim of that move. You’re going to take damage regardless, so getting hit by one or too will left you gain some drift and momentum somewhere else (like over a platform or closer to ledge) for you to seek refuge near instead of wasting a double jump. Airdodge, move, etc. that you then won’t be able to use and therefore make you more vulnerable. Be prepared to play lame if you have to.
Hey Mo, Im an aspiring falco main, currently still in training. I ran into a few walls, when comparing Falco to other characters.
