Thanks for the run through Ryan, it’s great you went through this as it’s always a worry you will lose tools or scripts with an upgrade so panic over Cheers Si
Hi Ryan. Thanks for the info. I just wish to add that the new PI will not support Starnet which I know many use. We’ll have to wait until the Starnet author updates his software for it to work in the new PI.
The Mac silicone chips didn’t either when I got my computer a few months ago so I’ve been StarX for a while now. I can’t believe the Mac update, one smoother than PC. It was literally fall is for me, but I heard some people that did the PC right away. Had some problems with GHS but it’s been fixed.
Good vid. Though I wait a few days after an update of any software before updating. Had too many times where update caused a problem which was solved with an updated updated a day (or hours) later. Once even with PI.
I was going to do the same thing but I decided to try for the channel and it was actually very easy. It’s a little different than some of them because you have to delete the old version and reinstall, but it still is very easy
Finally updated, but I’m concerned. Everything works and it kept my old icons too! There’s supposed to be problems and issues! Now I’ll attempt to add StarNet.
Keep in mind EZ Suite breaks with this update. Not that many still use these tools, but those who do...no more support. Thats direct from the author himself.
Yeah, he stated he’s not going to fix it either but like you said, I don’t know anybody that still use any of those tools. BXT, NXT, Etc have replaced all of them with easier and more effective options. It’s really cool that he put in all that work and probably didn’t make any money but I think he realizes that other people have come into the space and there isn’t going to be a huge return on the investment how many people on Pixinsite for beginners do you see talking about EZ processing suit? I literally forgot it even existed. I didn’t even check it because I haven’t used any of those processes in over a year. That’s why in the video I made sure to let people know you can put it in your trash and install without deleting the old version. I didn’t try to go back and install it off of the website. I don’t know if that still a possibility I’m actually surprised that the install was literally flawless for Mac since it’s more of a PC based software. Literally couldn’t have gone easier… I’ll have to partner with somebody who has a PC on the next one.
@@darkrangersinc yes those tools are superceded by the xterm series... But... Those are still additional costs. EZ was free. And that's important to some.
I have PixInsight on 2 computers, one is slightly faster than the other. I have kept the older version of PI on the slower one and the newer version of PI on the faster computer. I still have the EZ Processing Scripts on the older PI version, lost them on the newer PI version. The main question for me is what are the benefits of the newer PI version? I plan too keep both versions until I have had more time to work with the newer version. It is easy to install the new version of PI.
The only thing I’ve seen that anybody has gotten any value out of is the fast processing. You do some of the preliminary steps and then integration that would normally take maybe an hour or two I guess is going through in like five minutes But the fact that there’s seven steps from what I’ve seen makes it a no go for me I don’t need my stocking to be done in five minutes lol mine usually take about 45 minutes, so I usually just get them going and then do something else and come back So at this point now that I processed 2 full images since the update, I don’t see any benefit, but more to come as always
I heard that the GPU acceleration for the RC products will not work after the update and something needs again be done with the TensorFlow... As well that some scripts like GAME will not work. Is this correct and any comments on that?
The RC astro products appear to me to be running at the same speed although they usually only took a few seconds either way. All the scripts I use still work: starscreen, star reduction, Forax, GHS, Image solver etc. I don’t use the GAME script. So for me there was no noticeable change other than having to re-input my license for the StarX plug only for some reason just that but as you know that takes about 10 seconds All of the plugs and scripts transfered over for me. Once I reinstall, they just had to close and then open again, and they all came back
@@darkrangersinc Ok. What do you do with it in Pixinsight? Is it special processing? Let’s say you have 1000 10 sec frames. Do they need special attention in Pixinsight?
@@anata5127 it literally just got announced in their latest update last night. I will dig in and find out and pass it along but it’s hot off the presses at this point. So all they said was that it’s similar to lucky imaging but a little bit longer exposures and design specifically for CMOS cameras, with better quantum efficiency. It has the same goal to nullify atmospheric effects.
@@darkrangersinc Ok. It will be great if you make video on this. I use this technique all the time. This is for advanced astrophotography for small objects. Trying to match HST quality!😀 Little bit to go, but ESO ground telescope pictures could be matched😉.
@@anata5127 yeah that’s the game plan just need to look into it and check the best methods. I’m going to a dark sky site on Thursday. If the weather is permitting, I’m excited because I had to skip last month due to clouds.

Good stuff! Appreciate you taking the plunge.
Great video as usual. Thanks!!!

Also DeepSNR needs to be updated to be compatible with .9-2

I’m a big fan of StarXterminator as an alternative if you haven’t tried it I recommend!

You didn't have to delete the hidden file "core-001-pxi.settings?"

What is this longer lucky imaging? Make video about that lucky imaging.
It’s called “faster imaging” it’s similar to lucky imaging but with longer exposures 👍🏼👍🏼.
