I know a lot of people say that the Sub version is always superior and there are some characters in this show I would agree that’s the case. But when it comes to Levi I would strongly disagree. His voice acting delivery is consistently great and I never found it cringy and I always felt like it fit him perfectly! Personally I prefer the dub version of him screaming “KENNYYYYYYY!” To the sub. Mathew Mercer conveys so much intense rage in that scream! And my heart broke when he said “I PROMISED!” There’s so much sincere frustration, anguish, utter desperation in his voice. His dub version is absolutely incredible and I don’t care if that’s an unpopular opinion.
I think everyone knows that Levi’s English VA is an exception. I usually prefer the sub but Levi’s voice makes me come back to dub every now and then, he’s just sounds THAT good.
Spoiler Alert In 1:04 Levi says that he is going to revive the one that would save humanity talking about Erwin but end up reviving Armin who years later would be the one that would talk with the ones that were sleeping in wherever the fuck Ymir was and end up beating Eren with his Titan. Armin didnt disappoint the captain nor his friends
I read a really interesting take on this recently, it was just a theory, but made a lot of sense to me. The theory was that because Erwin’s main goal was only to discover what was in the basement, and the truth of the Titans, that once they discovered the truth he would have lost his drive and determination. But, Levi thought about the conversation he overhead between Eren, Armin and Mikasa and how Armin had dreams and desire above and beyond just the basement and truth of the Titans. So, at that point Levi knew that Armin would be the one who would continue to push forward because his dreams were big enough to allow him to lead the Scouts beyond just the origin of the Titans. Again, just a fan theory, but it made a lot of sense.

Erwin’s goal was finding out the truth behind the titans. Not to mention that I personally think that Armin was far superior in his knowing when and when not to act. Erwin took reckless gambles; Armin thought before he acted and went through each and every option to find which was optimal; that’s the major and deciding difference between the two of them.
That Kennehhhy is also as good as the Japanese version his voice is perfectly matched with his character so tough and deep and has a lot of weight on it, I just love the dub version.
I only just started watching eps in english dub this year and for some reason thought Levi was voiced by Kakashi's VA in Naruto. Now I realised I got Yamato and Kakashi confused because they're in so many scenes together.
I think it's Yamato. I just saw another video and Yamato was in it for a short amount of time, but he did sound like Levi. But I'll have to search it up. Edit- I looked him up and he actually voiced Yamato! Pretty cool!
What I like about levi is that he never says that he is right or you are wrong.Even in season he told eren to make the choice it can either be right or wrong but we don't know that.
@Kattttts It's pretty clear he wanted to check her ass when she attacked him but he stamped down his pride and ego as he wanted Mikasa to get control of herself without him having to be make a second example out of her as well lol. People like to say she's as strong as Levi but I don't think so tbh. Levi's fight with Kenny's squad (whilst injured)proves he is a monster and cannot be underestimated (as Mikasa does when she suggests she could take the serum by force). Mikasa's peak was season 4 and she was never at Levi's skill/strength level. The way he cut down the beast titan proves a pissed off Levi is absolutely unmatched and he was beyond pissed at Eren's refusal to get out of his way when he had already been warned. Levi flipped Eren on his ass easy and it would have been a walk in the park to flip Mikasa on hers too.
His VA is Matthew Mercer, the same VA for JoJo. And fun fact: Erwin's seiyuu Daisuke Ono voices Jotaro Kujo in the original Japanese format for JoJo's Bizarre Adventure too.
Well Tbf Zeke is supposed to be stoic and sadistic he rarely acts on emotion. It’s sort of part of his character even in the sub. Zeke talks to himself often and is pretty robotic.
@Avah Brousseau I mean... Character wise, at this point in the series Eren is a whiny little boy. I think his voice fits perfectly for this stage in Eren's life. The English voice sounds perfect for Timeskip Eren.
