Looking at this in July 2024 i am surprised at the amount of planning for the journey. Having had an i pace for a couple of months and a couple of thousand miles, the infrastructure must be so much better. we have done about 6-7 journeys of over 200 miles and really don't give a thought to where to charge. We just drive on standard routes and then if the state of the battery starts getting low we search ahead for a place to pull over to take a break and plug in for a while. Generally we find that 2-3 hours driving is about enough before a comfort break for ourselves and the dog. So we look for somewhere to take a 30 minute break and invariably there is somewhere handy to plug in and top up since we are parked anyway. On any major routes there is a fast charging station every 15-30 miles so it's just not a problem any more.
Hey, thanks for your videos, would be interesting to hear your opinion/experience about this last recall/software update related to battery overheating that can cause fire
Hi, thanks for watching! I did talk about this in a recent video and further to that it’s been clarified that 19/20 models need to go in for the update and 21 onwards can be done over the air. It’s only certain cars I was told at Jaguar and when I took mine in it failed and I’m awaiting a response from the dealer re taking it back in. I’m not particularly concerned as long as it does what is says which is basically to warn of a potential issue.
How do you get it to show miles/kWh in the journey details? Mine shows Wh/miles. It's an easy conversion but it would be better not to have to convert it. 😊 Very informative and interesting video. 👍 I recently bought an approved MY21 i-Pace HSE and loving it so far. 😎
Thanks for your comment always appreciated! On the app press on the three dots to the right at the bottom, select My Account and scroll down to Units and scroll down to Energy consumption. 😀
Really, it seems to be just hit and miss, first time I used them was at Hopwood services which was pretty good, only had to move once, worked okay coming back at the same services no problems at all, about two weeks later northbound on the M6 at Charnock Richards tried almost every charger as there were only three cars charging at the time, in the end I gave up and moved onto the 50 kW grid Serve charges. I ended up downloading the app when once again I tried to use them at Cardiff just off the M4 tried four charges, because I had plenty of time I ended up calling the helpline, while I was waiting for them to call me back which they never did The fifth oneI tried started working , also no joy at all at fleet service, then m11 nr stansted it was 4 th time lucky , it’s jus applegreen
Hi nice video Only one criticism , you kept on how the weather & temp made the big difference in efficiency. I know these play a part in efficiency but what plays the biggest part is speed on motorways. When you 1st showed us your efficiency data it showed your average speed as 66 mph & regeneration was 1 kWh. The second one as 60 mph & regen of 2.9 kWh. The third one was 48 mph & you regenerated 5.9 kWh the speed & regen made the efficiency difference in the travel rather than the weather & temp. The i pace is like the Audi not very efficient. Also apparently if you want to average 70 mph in an i pace you must do 73 / 74 mph depending on wheel & tyres. As the speedo is slightly out. I’m pretty sure the Jaguar only averages max around 2.3 miles per kwh at a proper 70 mph I like the i pace , this battery thing has put me off them , they should just replace all the battery’s , rather than limiting them from 84.7 usable to 74 % usable. That wouldn’t be right
Thanks for taking the time to comment. Yes these of course are good points. These are factors at other times of the year also and you get lower efficiency then so temperature does play it’s part and more so in other cars which is why I do mention it so often as being a key factor but I was conscious myself when reviewing that I didn’t mention the other factors much so good point.
Great video thanks.....It's a very nice car too but this video just shows why folks buy Tesla. Especially if you are regularly doing long journeys or holiday throughout the year. I wonder if a newer ipace would be better?
Not much change on the ipace. Difficult to compare to Tesla as it’s the class leader in terms of tech for sure but not for car quality and style in my view. The Ipace still looks good after 5 years, it’s just a shame JLS haven’t improved range and charging speed….
All I can say is that’s not how I feel, it’s just a bit different but you soon get used to it. The fun of driving is not lost, the instant torque never gets boring. Things aren’t perfect with charging but these are still early days, it will just get better over time. Having said that I’m not trying to persuade anyone, if it’s not for you that’s fine. My aim is to share the reality and help people if they want to switch.
@@electricfocus1710 that is a fair response and driving is different for everyone. I just think if it costs me £100 to fill my mondeo i get 600 + miles and a 10 minute stop for another 600 miles. The joy goes when you need to stop every 200 miles for 45 minutes
I know this is an old comment. But I always find this interesting. As an example if I wanted to drive from Bristol, where I live to, Edinburgh for example. That is 370 miles. It would take 6-7 hours. I would need to charge my existing EV for 1 40 minute charge. My bladder, legs, back and stomach are going to want at least 2 stops, probably 3. How are people doing 600 miles (10-12+ hours of driving in the uk) with nothing more than a 10 minute fuel stop?
@@electricfocus1710 full respect to you and your response my friend. My response was never meant to persuade anybody one way or the other. For me personally the fewer restraints on the pleasure of driving i feel the better.
Seems to be the most retrograde way of travelling. The single trip could have done in one hit with a Jaguar diesel. I can't understand why anyone would want to waste so much time with an EV.

Been watching most of your videos which helped me commit to buying a 2019 HSE FE. So thanks for your insights.
Thanks for taking the time to comment, very much appreciated and hope you’re enjoying the car!
Nice video, currently thinking about getting a secondhand iPace as the price for what you get is certainly appealing. Look forward to more videos!
Thanks for taking the time to comment, always appreciated! Just been out just now and I to say I still love driving the I-PACE even after 3 years….

@@electricfocus1710 Brilliant, thank you very much 😊
I find that I usually get a better miles per kw/h when using dynamic mode.
Interesting, thanks for sharing, I leave it in comfort mode most of the time.
For some reason my ipace struggles with Apple green charges, every other charger is fine it’s just Applegreen
I’ve used them a few times and never had an issue. When you say ‘struggles’ what actually happens?

This just seems such a faff when you want to go on a journey with an EV. All of the fun of driving has been sucked out of driving.
