    finally a decent review including tips and tricks. since you bought it when they were a kickstart deal....wondering what you spent? also, the sheetcam tip on airflow for inside/outside cutting is a nice tip. ive been on langmuir forum for 6-7 months, and there seem to be some issues with THC, razorweld, fire control misfires.....surprised you didnt run into these....considering when you purchased, and the software revisions since then.......or was there many?......alll in all, looking at your table, it seems to have worked out well for you....great insight and thanx for your view

      We did have a few issues early on - ours had an early version of the controller board. We had to cut a trace on the board. Also had to install a ferrite torus on the USB wire. This fixed most of the issues we saw.
      The software updates have made the whole system much more usable. For instance, if you lose the torch flame during a cut, you can restart from the last good cut, instead of having to start over. We still have some issues with the software, but it's pretty reliable.
      There are a lot of potential failure points in this system, and many of them are not at all in Lanmuir's control. The actual plasma cutter can have issues. The air supply is critical and generally more than would be available in a home shop. We have a large air compressor, that's a good 30-40 feet from the plasma table - this gives the air time to cool, but does allow for moisture build-up. We have purchased an air dryer for this reason.
      A lot of the complaints on the forums are from people who are new to CAD, CAM, CNC machines, plasma cutting, etc. Some users need help with saving a file on a computer! So, there's a big learning curve there for many users. This accounts for a good percentage of the comments.
      It's a good system, for a fairly complicated process really. I've seen people with much more expensive CNC plasma cutters who've had a lot of issues as well. I've spent the better part of a day trouble shooting and repairing an expensive one for a pretty famous YT guy. The Langmuir system is good, inexpensive, and pretty solid.
      Thanks for your kind words Glenn.

    Hi Rich- it's Chris from the TIG welding class in NY. Very nice video! I've had a Crossfire Pro for almost a year now but sadly haven't had the time to put it together. Your video has inspired me to put it at the top of my things to do list. Thanks and cheers!

      Hi Chris! Nice to hear from you. That was a great class - good bunch of folk. The crossfire is definitely something that shouldn't stay in the box!

    I liked ur video because I too am considering the Langmuir system , although I’m further out to pulling the trigger due to researching software types. Tube bending sheet bending software is what I’m trying to find compatible for the plasma system all i one..

    Whats that black and silver thing that has the air hoses going into it on the wall behind you is it a water filter and where did you get it ???

      It’s a “Motor Guard M-30 1/4 NPT Submicronic Compressed Air Filter” which I got from Amazon. It was recommended in the Langmuir forums. Also, an air dryer is recommended.

    Great video! You are the first person I've seen that discusses the smoke. Good information. Just got a Crossfire and 45XP. Hope to get everything set up in the next few weeks.

      One item with the 45XP is that when you wire the control wires from the controller to the plasma cutter is that the polarity matters. I had ordered a 45XP designed for use with CNC plasma machines. It came with a cable that provides access to the torch voltage as well as turning the torch on and off. I think for the connection to the torch height controller, polarity matters. If it doesn't work, try to reverse the two sensor wires. I'm sorry I can't provide more detail on that, I did it a while ago and I don't remember the way I finally wired it up. There are good videos on that. The 45XP is a REALLY good choice. A very solid machine.

    What is the red rubber spark shield over the torch?

    • @loen.design
      @loen.design  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s a silicone funnel. I cut the small opening a bit bigger and put it around the torch nozzle, up side down. Stops sparks from spraying around the room. Search on Amazon for: Txibi 4 Pack Silicone Collapsible Funnel, Flexible/Foldable/Kitchen Funnel for Liquid Transfer 100% Food Grade Silicone FDA Approved Silicone Large Funnel
