Phenomenal story to hear, and your story is the next in a line I've stumbled across recently giving me stronger conviction for my next steps.
As of about two months ago, I made the decision that Japan would be my first, next, and final resting place. I, too, am currently in California (greater Sacramento) - have been for 32 years. I recently came to the realization that I have no prospect in this country. Old dreams I had were gone, my experiences hampered by a regretful survival of my 20s, and very little to attach myself to. I recently learned of fairly lucrative IT opportunities in Japan and plan to take advantage of that. At the end of this year, I'll be starting a year-long grind to get myself in order. I intend on studying Japanese, getting into shape, skilling up in my field, learning how to dance, and hopefully... getting back into video making - a long lost hobby of mine.
I very much have a love for the spoken language and how people communicate with each other. Please know that your words have impact, and while I'm only a few years older than you, your words have impacted me as well and I couldn't be more thankful. I sincerely hope you make it back to Japan, and I hope to be right behind you in the same steps to a place I know I belong.
Should we ever cross paths; my friends call me Domo. You're welcome to the same. You have a supporter in me, friend. Best of luck!

I'm really glad to hear that my story had a positive impact! We have many things we can relate on like Japanese learning, getting into shape, dance, and video creation. I think the journey will be tough but also really fun and fulfilling for the both of us hopefully! I really appreciate your comment and I wish you the best of luck Domo.

Great video. It spoke to my soul as well. I love how you talked about that location does matter. It is true. Like you, I am relatively young, but have a wife and kids. Luckily, they’re on board for the Japan adventure as well. We want to move there and work for 3 years. I think getting me and my family out of the blah of usual living in the states will help us jumpstart our lost excitement for life.

Nice video man! I also am from California and just recently came back from a month and a half journey to Korea.
Although I already have friends there, a bit younger in my life and speak the language okay (I’m not Korean), I definitely resonated a lot with this video and your narration of the experience.
I especially feel the point where you talk about doing adventures everyday and not feeling tired like we do in California being burned out from a daily routine instead of actually really being fatigued.
Had a great few days in Japan as well and would love to go back to visit. I don’t see these places as home for me, but a place where I can go and experience a new world that is different than the politics and craziness of the United States.
Earned a subscriber! I will be rooting for you to fulfill your goals and accomplish your dream! 💪

Great story! What’s your plan on living there more permanently? And what’s the update on your second pivotal event? Are your plans going back related to her?

I currently am in the middle of working on it. Looking into Visas and what not and I actually am going to be visiting her in Japan again pretty soon. I'll probably do an update again eventually!

just a quick tip. i recommend you that you start a new channel and upload/reupload these videos there in a consistent way just make better titles and (way better) thumbnails. You killed your channel because you did not stay consistent in the style of videos you make and youtube hates that! also i recommend you then make an other channel and upload shorts there! sorry for yapping but i just want to help!

I'm in my late 20s so I've saved up a fair amount just by working for the past 7 or so years.

not everyone in this world is a wage slave. some people are smart about it and can easily run a profitable business without putting too much time in.
