I feel like i'm the only person that feels sorry for Ryan. Like I do agree with the whole Sharpay being the victim thing but Ryan is so rarely mentioned when, in the first movie, he went through the same stuff too and lost out as much as she did. Also if you look at the second film Sharpay and Ryan kind of just betrayed eachother, Sharpay by ditching Ryan for Troy and then Ryan for getting back at her and stopping her from performing, so they're kind of on even playing fields in that one in my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Once Upon A Blink OK you can say the first time is their fault and they were denied the audition and then they sang Miss Darvis heard it and allow for callbacks that’s not their fault you can blame that on the teacher. The second time was completely on sharpay and Ryan who purposely try to sabotage them
I am a theatre kid and I always felt like they were trying to make a victim into a villain because Troy held so much power and got away for what he did.
I think it's pretty clear the real villain in the HSM movies is time. The first one was peer pressure, but the inevitability of growing up and the pressures of their future was clearly the most feared concept of the trilogy

I've always known Sharpay wasn't the villain and I've always liked her and Ryan more than Troy and Gabriella. Troy and Gabriella have good songs, but I don't like their characters or their singing voices. They just don't have as much talent, and they make EVERY song slow, boring and romantic. I once wrote a 10 page list of reasons Sharpay isn't the villain. One of the main ones is the fact that everyone says she tried to steal Troy, which isn't strictly true. She did help him a lot more than Gabriella did though. SHE OFFERED HIM A COLLEGE EDUCATION JUST FOR SINGING WITH HER!! She also promoted him at Lava Springs so he could earn more money, as he was struggling to pay for the college he wanted to go to. This isn't really trying to steal him, it's just being a good friend in my opinion. He was so ungrateful to her!! I could say much more about it, but this comment is long enough already. 🤣 Sorry about how long the comment is, I just talk for ages when it comes to HSM, especially when I'm trying to prove Sharpay's not the villain.
I Love Owl City they were great slow and romantic songs better than the very predictable bip bop music. They actually had more singing talent and have better voices. It is true that she tried to steal Troy he left early try to make sure and try to get him to have in our thing with her and when he said it was just him and Gabriella she pushed harder offering a scholarship and money and stuff like that while trying to get the Wildcats fired. I guess it’s OK to try to steal someone’s boyfriend as long as you’re offering him a scholarship she abused her money and power to try to get him. Gabriella was just fine as a girlfriend until shar-Pei got in the way and Troy kind of turned for a while and was kind of blowing her off. I guess being manipulative and trying to get a boyfriend to cheat on his girlfriend with you you’re not a villain or evil

As much as I love Gabriella I do admit she is my third favorite character while my second favorite is Sharpay, so I'll have to agree with you there. Troy Bolton is my number one favorite, meanwhile.
I never liked Gabriella. Especially as a theater kid, having some new kid who’s never even been in play before take a lead roll.. I saw Sharpay’s reasoning to dislike Gabriella. Sharpay worked hard for her musical ability. I love her to this day.
She's not always a villain, but sometimes she is. Like when she's trying to split up Troy, and Gabrielle in the second movie, but at the same time she's not like in the third movie when she battles an English theater diva for the theater department of her school, and she came out a victor.

While Sharpay does have a kind side, she was the antagonist. #5: "She gets Troy a summer job." She only wanted Troy to get the job so she could steal him from Gabriella. She practically yelled at her mom and Fulton to get everyone except Troy fired or make them want to quit. #4: "She liked theatre before it was cool." You are right about this one. Sharpay doesn't deserve to be ridiculed or looked at differently for liking theatre. #3: "Troy and Gabriella have other priorities." So? It's a school play, not Broadway. They are allowed to have a life outside of theater. They managed to practice their duet while balancing their other commitments, and the only reason they were late the second time was bc of Sharpay. #2: "Sharpay has more training than Troy and Gabriella." Experience and training isn't the only requirement/criteria in theatre. Talent also matters and Troy and Gabriella are just as talented as Sharpay, if not more. Experience and training don't natter if there's anyone else who is shown to have the appropriate talent suitable for the role. Troy and Gabriella were able to display the romantic chemistry that Ryan and Sharpay couldn't. #1: "She doesn't act like a diva." Sharpay does have a kind side, but sge was still selfish.

Agree with this video. After graduation, Gabriella had no interest in theater - she studied pre-law, and in the first movie, her interest was in chemistry and science. Sharpay’s dream was always theater, making a *career* out of it. - At graduation, Troy chose basketball and theater, but before the first movie and meeting Gabriella, he had absolutely no interest in theater. His dreams and interests were just basketball.
I loved Sharpay, but these were terrible reasons! I think the only thing that disproves the whole "she's a villain" thing is the fact that she was doing fine until Gabriella showed up. Like, she didn't feel the need to do all these things to sabotage anyone because she never had anyone challenge her. Things always went her way, until, like I said, Gabriella showed up. So yeah...I mean, I loved her, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that she wasn't a villain. I wouldn't call her a victim either because it's not like Troy or Gabriella purposely tried to ruin her. They were more like, "Oh well, here we are. Might as well see where this theatre thing takes us."
The reason should have been someone calculated that the movies were over the course of a year menaing Gabrielle broke Troy's heart FOUR times in a year which is just ridiculous shows just what kind of girls she is when things get hard she runs Sharpay doesn't she works through it even if the whole school LITERALLY is against her she's also very kind despite her mask which is what I see it as a mask
Something to note in regards to Sharpay helping Troy with his future. She got him the job. She got him talking with the necessary people for college and stuff. But, she knows that he loves basketball more than performing. She gets him talking about a BASKETBALL scholarship. Not a music scholarship, or major.
My head just exploded. Some of this is true, but the intentions behind her good actions were never selfless. She manipulated and mistreated people and played dirty to get what she wanted.
Mistreating is a bit of a stretch, I don't think getting people a summer job and doing everything you can to get ahead is mistreatment. I'm sure you would do the same if someone just came in and took everything that you worked hard for from right under you
Yeah, cuz when the main character of a movie/book/showtries to steal someone's girlfriend/boyfriend it is a fair fight, but when someone tries to break up the main couple they are doing something bad. WHAT A DOUBLE STANDARD! I don't condemn her attempt at stealing Troy; heck, I am against breaking couples that are happy together all the time, but it isn't fair to be angry at Sharpay for that when if Troy or Gabriela did it it would've been considered fair game.
She doesn't seem to be evil, to be honest I am starting to think that these so called heroes "Gabriella, Troy and the whole school" are the real villains and Sharpay was never a villain. I don't see why not one of these charecters like her...

To me, HSM is one of those stories in which there really is no true hero or villain. Just a bunch of kids at odds with each other who all become closer in the end because of it

Im gonna have to disagree a little in HSM2 Sharpay was trying to give Troy almost everything he wanted. Troy was literally in a relationship with gabriella and she kept intervening with that. Sharpay was definitely a home wrecker.

I think it stems to their nurturing. Sharpay is a very powerful personality and her brother, well isn't as strong as her. So growing up she probably always managed to get her way. Not because she's mean or cruel but just because she's a stronger personality. With no one telling her no or that what she is doing is wrong and her brother just going along with it she never realized what she was doing was wrong. She learns though and while its hard to change what you always have done she makes strides in how she treats others and especially her brother. I agree with many of these points on why Sharpay is not a villain, but i agree that her brother was just as much of a victim as his sister Sharpay. As for the betrayal thing I would like to point out is probably worse for Sharpay then Ryan. Ryan is used to his sister doing these things and while its not nice and certainly will hurt no matter how many times it happens its not new to him. To Sharpay though this is the first time her brother has hurt her. Although because inside she truly is a nice person she comes to understand her brother's position and amends her actions in the end. Of Course this is all my opinion from what I've seen so I'm not trying to offend anyone's views.
The thing is, being more qualified and motivated doesn't take away from her selfish actions. I do have to admit, though, that she's not really rotten to the core: like stated in the video, she accepts defeat with surprising graciousness. The one thing I liked most about HSM was watching her learn to share the spotlight, even if she wants it for herself. Learning she can't always have what she wants is important (though it seems to take a lot to remind her of that).
Gabriella was selfish too, she didn't want to help Kelsi pick up those papers that all fell. Now I know her and sharpay agreed they didn't audition and they weren't. Since they didn't and they werent it really should NEVER have gone to her or her and troy. That wasn't an audition, she needed to tell Ms. Darbus that we didn't audition kelsi was only showing us the song. That would have been selfless, do you know when kelsi tripped on the stage she had looked entirely irritated she didn't want to help that timid girl, but troy did. The expectation that Gabriella is a goody two shoes is far off and I hardly think any instances where she was entirely selfless. So you want to do all this stuff to your boyfriend leaving this person to have to step in she was only destroying troys future and making troy think its what he wanted to do too. Maybe chad and taylor had been in cahoots against him seeing he had said she was cute in the first movie, first movie you see she believes in troy the second she believes in him again, but doesn't mind helping him out how was connecting troy to the school he talked to his dad about going to help her? She had opportunity to be fully selfish, but imagine this persons mind being so poisoned on you its not even on their own but under influence from his friends the same ones that could tell him when he tells them shes cute that a mountain lion is too. Or on the flip side obliterated their relationship just cause they thought he wasnt as focused on playing basketball but was distracted by Gabriella (the girl) and singing in the musical putting the weight of the school but worse than that the schools basketball legacy on his shoulders telling him the school is coming apart because of his singing thing. The shot for sharpay with troy was shot down even before Troy and Gabriella even had their first kiss with him kissing her on the cheek. Sharpay is a consistant character feminine classy with a very feminine interest in theater everyone took as a joke she liked theater before the school she had boundaries and she was provoked. I think they did bully her again and again she needed to have that summer away from all of them or could have gotten heads up. Like none I want to say notifying your mom isn't the same as notifying you. He discussed it with her mom, great, he still should have discussed it with her.
Even when i was younger i didnt really like Gabriella and always preferred sharpay. Its weird cuz everyone hated me because i liked the rich blonde "mean" girl instead of the lead female.
I'm sorry but in my humble opinion if you're looking for a specific villain in this trilogy, then you're really not looking at the big picture. If you really look and watch all of these three movies you come to realize that the main villains of these movies are actually themselves. Now Disney might focus on Sharpay a little more because she was such a big influence in East High, but if you pay close attention to it all you actually see that she is the villain of her own story by trying to be Gabriella. Just as Troy is the villain of his own story by trying to please everyone around him but himself. Just as Gabriella is the villain of her own story by trying to say goodbye to everyone around her before she even has to because she is so used to it. Pay close attention to the film and you will truly see that the villain of the High School Musical trilogy isn't just one person but it's all of them, they are their own main villains because of their insecurities or expectations. There isn't just one villain in High School Musical and no one is making Sharpay the main Villain.

Troy is just trying to get a scholarship but also being faithful he was extremely worried about the scholarship and he just lost himself for a bit. Sharpay does every Manipulative thing in the book and all three rooms to try to get with Troy

When I was younger me and my sisters used to play pretend and one of us sometimes act as if we were lovers raising a child so I don’t really find it wrong if siblings are to act as lovers in a play or TV show/movie.
in hocus pocus, director garry marshall and his sister penny marshall played husband and wife in the part where the sanderson sisters had thought they found their "master" .
I think that on the second film she brought it all on herself. She could've had a great summer without any "Wlidcats ruining her show," though I must admit Ryan was so mean betraying her at that ending.

Personal Personal Troy was just confused trying to do the best he could to get a scholarship because of how expensive colleges and Shar-Pei took a vantage of that and try to get him a scholarship try to get him a job and when he wasn’t alone so she could seduce him into cheating she tried to get everybody else fired and basically bribe him to be her boyfriend. Troy is not perfect but he did nothing malicious in the series and is one of the best characters and Gabriella second probably Sharpay about fifth. The only one who did villainess things was Sharpay by being malicious and deceitful
I agree, though this list doesn't argument very well. What I think is that Sharpey loves singing and being on stage and she works really hard to be good, even though noone appreciates theater. But everytime Troy and Gabriella come around, everything is always handed to them, even though they don't take theater seriously at all. And suddenly everyone loves theater. She acts like a diva yes, but that doesn't make her a bad person, she is just motivated to get what she wants, but she is still the bigger person at the end and doesn't get upset

Sharpay is honestly the villain in the movies but she’s a villain that eventually matures. In the second movie she split up Troy and Gabriella, made her wildcat classmates summer a living hell, treated her brother horribly, and made Troy very uncomfortable just to sing with him. And I know that Sharpay gave him a great future but it’s not about what’s good for Troy, it’s about what he wants for himself.
Villain is too strong a word except in 2. She was using her wealth, social status, and emotional manipulation to steal Gabriella’s boyfriend, to have him as her prize and also become the most popular girl in school again.
To be fair, that was about the only time she was really some kind of "villain". Other times she was too busy chasing after Zeke and his cookies, like I feel like Troy was probably just going to be a summer fling for her. Also, she never really lost her popularity. Sharpay was still practically the school's it girl. There wasn't really a sign that told me that Gabriella was ever the most popular girl. Like she was dating the school's it guy but that doesn't really make her popular. Like no-one was really running up to her and begging her to sign their yearbooks unlike Troy and Sharpay.

First of all, Sharpay only did that to bribe him. Second of all, Gabriella had a right to cry because Sharpay was trying to steal Troy from her and he allowed it. And he broke a lot of promises he made to her

Besides, if she hadn't changed the dates it would've been a non-issue. And the end of HSM 3) shows that Troy also considered theatre a priority. 2) Which makes her more of a villain, because she's trying to make sure other students aren't given an opportunity to try new things. 1) Only decent point... If it had ended with the first movie, she could be seen as someone protective of her club and department. The second one turned her into a complete witch until she got her comeuppance after screwing over her brother who paid her back and DESERVED that Julliard scholarship.

All the other people had to work very hard while Sharpay manipulated them and made it harder
Her getting kelsi a job was nice but troy getting a job was part of a different thing she was doing so I kinda agree but she didn't actually get the Wildcats jobs she was mad when they got there and tried to sabotage them and make them quit Having said that I do like sharpay one of my favorite characters and she is not the villain but like come on she was kinda mean in the second I am not hating sharpay I like her but she had done a few things
1. She gets Troy a summer job because she was BRIBING and MANIPULATING him to guilt-trip him to performing with her (with the bigger picture being she wants Troy to be with her instead of Gabriella). She was USING her privilege, wealth and power to GET WHAT SHE WANTS. Gabriella didn't have that same position of privilege but she's always been supportive and doesn't hinder his endeavors until she sees it changing him for the worse. 2. She's viewed as an outsider because she STEPS ON OTHER PEOPLE. Like how she treated Kelsi at the start of the video. How she disrespected Kelsi's work and efforts also and the song that was probably written with a more mellow tone because it was more appropriate for the corresponding scene. She's so selfish and self-centered that she even pushed away her brother and took him for granted. And despite everything, Troy and Gabriella mostly ignores her petty but damaging antics until it becomes too much for them to tolerate. They generally treat her with respect and don't harbor grudges against her too. But they're not close. Can you blame them? 3. It's true that she had dedicated her entire world to theater, but that does NOT excuse her attitude. When Gabriella and Troy came into the picture, she couldn't handle the competition. They had always played FAIRLY while Sharpay tried different antics to stop them, so they reacted. Just because she was there first doesn't mean she's the only one who had the right to be there. She doesn't know how to share the spotlight or be in healthy competition with someone. Besides, I think the point of the contrast between her very big production numbers to the ones Gabriella and Troy have is trying to emphasize the importance of HEART and SINCERITY. Sharpay performs to put herself on the spotlight. Gabriella and Troy perform to tell a story. It may not be their entire lives but that doesn't make it any less important. 4. Why are we acting as if she was never given a spotlight? She did. She said it herself, she had starred in 17 productions. And just because she's more trained doesn't automatically means she is best for the roles. Do veteran actors always get the lead roles? A lot of productions cast newcomers as leads and more veteran ones as supporting roles. It doesn't automatically mean they were robbed of the roles. She should know how to share the spotlight and stop thinking so lowly of other roles besides the lead. She's very proud. Roles are given to actors who can best portray them. Judging from the movie, the production called for a simpler, subtle portrayal. When she performs, Sharpay is all pizzazz and no substance. When Gabriella performs, it's simple but there's heart. That's the contrast between their two characters and probably why Gabriella was more fit for the role. Besides, so what are YOU teaching kids? That Sharpay's actions are okay??? They're not. Throughout the series she's been manipulative and vindictive in getting what she wants. 5. It's true that she always plays the good sport at the end of the movie. But then that is negated by how she's pretty much back to square one by the start of the next movie. Btw, are we supposed to forget how SHE BETRAYED AND MISTREATED HER BROTHER? All Ryan did was not let her perform at the talent show for the nth time in a row. But Sharpay had always treated her brother like a lackey, doesn't give him proper credit and cuts him off from performances in a snap. RYAN DESERVED THAT AWARD AND JULLIARD. He had worked on directing that number with the group. He put in great, substantial work. He found a group of people who appreciated his individual personality and talents. Sharpay took him for granted.

I feel like i'm the only person that feels sorry for Ryan. Like I do agree with the whole Sharpay being the victim thing but Ryan is so rarely mentioned when, in the first movie, he went through the same stuff too and lost out as much as she did. Also if you look at the second film Sharpay and Ryan kind of just betrayed eachother, Sharpay by ditching Ryan for Troy and then Ryan for getting back at her and stopping her from performing, so they're kind of on even playing fields in that one in my opinion ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I am a theatre kid and I always felt like they were trying to make a victim into a villain because Troy held so much power and got away for what he did.
I think it's pretty clear the real villain in the HSM movies is time. The first one was peer pressure, but the inevitability of growing up and the pressures of their future was clearly the most feared concept of the trilogy

I've always known Sharpay wasn't the villain and I've always liked her and Ryan more than Troy and Gabriella. Troy and Gabriella have good songs, but I don't like their characters or their singing voices. They just don't have as much talent, and they make EVERY song slow, boring and romantic. I once wrote a 10 page list of reasons Sharpay isn't the villain. One of the main ones is the fact that everyone says she tried to steal Troy, which isn't strictly true. She did help him a lot more than Gabriella did though. SHE OFFERED HIM A COLLEGE EDUCATION JUST FOR SINGING WITH HER!! She also promoted him at Lava Springs so he could earn more money, as he was struggling to pay for the college he wanted to go to. This isn't really trying to steal him, it's just being a good friend in my opinion. He was so ungrateful to her!! I could say much more about it, but this comment is long enough already. 🤣

I Love Owl City they were great slow and romantic songs better than the very predictable bip bop music. They actually had more singing talent and have better voices. It is true that she tried to steal Troy he left early try to make sure and try to get him to have in our thing with her and when he said it was just him and Gabriella she pushed harder offering a scholarship and money and stuff like that while trying to get the Wildcats fired. I guess it’s OK to try to steal someone’s boyfriend as long as you’re offering him a scholarship she abused her money and power to try to get him. Gabriella was just fine as a girlfriend until shar-Pei got in the way and Troy kind of turned for a while and was kind of blowing her off. I guess being manipulative and trying to get a boyfriend to cheat on his girlfriend with you you’re not a villain or evil

So? It's a school play, not Broadway. They are allowed to have a life outside of theater. They managed to practice their duet while balancing their other commitments, and the only reason they were late the second time was bc of Sharpay.

Experience and training isn't the only requirement/criteria in theatre. Talent also matters and Troy and Gabriella are just as talented as Sharpay, if not more. Experience and training don't natter if there's anyone else who is shown to have the appropriate talent suitable for the role. Troy and Gabriella were able to display the romantic chemistry that Ryan and Sharpay couldn't.

I loved Sharpay, but these were terrible reasons! I think the only thing that disproves the whole "she's a villain" thing is the fact that she was doing fine until Gabriella showed up. Like, she didn't feel the need to do all these things to sabotage anyone because she never had anyone challenge her. Things always went her way, until, like I said, Gabriella showed up. So yeah...I mean, I loved her, but I wouldn't go so far as to say that she wasn't a villain. I wouldn't call her a victim either because it's not like Troy or Gabriella purposely tried to ruin her. They were more like, "Oh well, here we are. Might as well see where this theatre thing takes us."

I think it stems to their nurturing. Sharpay is a very powerful personality and her brother, well isn't as strong as her. So growing up she probably always managed to get her way. Not because she's mean or cruel but just because she's a stronger personality. With no one telling her no or that what she is doing is wrong and her brother just going along with it she never realized what she was doing was wrong. She learns though and while its hard to change what you always have done she makes strides in how she treats others and especially her brother.
I agree with many of these points on why Sharpay is not a villain, but i agree that her brother was just as much of a victim as his sister Sharpay.
As for the betrayal thing I would like to point out is probably worse for Sharpay then Ryan. Ryan is used to his sister doing these things and while its not nice and certainly will hurt no matter how many times it happens its not new to him. To Sharpay though this is the first time her brother has hurt her. Although because inside she truly is a nice person she comes to understand her brother's position and amends her actions in the end.
Of Course this is all my opinion from what I've seen so I'm not trying to offend anyone's views.

The one thing I liked most about HSM was watching her learn to share the spotlight, even if she wants it for herself. Learning she can't always have what she wants is important (though it seems to take a lot to remind her of that).

Gabriella was selfish too, she didn't want to help Kelsi pick up those papers that all fell. Now I know her and sharpay agreed they didn't audition and they weren't. Since they didn't and they werent it really should NEVER have gone to her or her and troy. That wasn't an audition, she needed to tell Ms. Darbus that we didn't audition kelsi was only showing us the song. That would have been selfless, do you know when kelsi tripped on the stage she had looked entirely irritated she didn't want to help that timid girl, but troy did. The expectation that Gabriella is a goody two shoes is far off and I hardly think any instances where she was entirely selfless. So you want to do all this stuff to your boyfriend leaving this person to have to step in she was only destroying troys future and making troy think its what he wanted to do too. Maybe chad and taylor had been in cahoots against him seeing he had said she was cute in the first movie, first movie you see she believes in troy the second she believes in him again, but doesn't mind helping him out how was connecting troy to the school he talked to his dad about going to help her? She had opportunity to be fully selfish, but imagine this persons mind being so poisoned on you its not even on their own but under influence from his friends the same ones that could tell him when he tells them shes cute that a mountain lion is too. Or on the flip side obliterated their relationship just cause they thought he wasnt as focused on playing basketball but was distracted by Gabriella (the girl) and singing in the musical putting the weight of the school but worse than that the schools basketball legacy on his shoulders telling him the school is coming apart because of his singing thing. The shot for sharpay with troy was shot down even before Troy and Gabriella even had their first kiss with him kissing her on the cheek. Sharpay is a consistant character feminine classy with a very feminine interest in theater everyone took as a joke she liked theater before the school she had boundaries and she was provoked. I think they did bully her again and again she needed to have that summer away from all of them or could have gotten heads up. Like none I want to say notifying your mom isn't the same as notifying you. He discussed it with her mom, great, he still should have discussed it with her.
Even when i was younger i didnt really like Gabriella and always preferred sharpay. Its weird cuz everyone hated me because i liked the rich blonde "mean" girl instead of the lead female.

I'm sorry but in my humble opinion if you're looking for a specific villain in this trilogy, then you're really not looking at the big picture. If you really look and watch all of these three movies you come to realize that the main villains of these movies are actually themselves. Now Disney might focus on Sharpay a little more because she was such a big influence in East High, but if you pay close attention to it all you actually see that she is the villain of her own story by trying to be Gabriella. Just as Troy is the villain of his own story by trying to please everyone around him but himself. Just as Gabriella is the villain of her own story by trying to say goodbye to everyone around her before she even has to because she is so used to it. Pay close attention to the film and you will truly see that the villain of the High School Musical trilogy isn't just one person but it's all of them, they are their own main villains because of their insecurities or expectations. There isn't just one villain in High School Musical and no one is making Sharpay the main Villain.

I think that on the second film she brought it all on herself. She could've had a great summer without any "Wlidcats ruining her show," though I must admit Ryan was so mean betraying her at that ending.
December Vesalius ... No .. They were just jerks ... To be honest they were treating Sharpay horrible and to mot even at least get to sing a song in return for EVERYTHING as if it's the end of the world ... Made Troy an even more horrible person then he already was ....
Personal Personal Troy was just confused trying to do the best he could to get a scholarship because of how expensive colleges and Shar-Pei took a vantage of that and try to get him a scholarship try to get him a job and when he wasn’t alone so she could seduce him into cheating she tried to get everybody else fired and basically bribe him to be her boyfriend. Troy is not perfect but he did nothing malicious in the series and is one of the best characters and Gabriella second probably Sharpay about fifth. The only one who did villainess things was Sharpay by being malicious and deceitful

I agree, though this list doesn't argument very well. What I think is that Sharpey loves singing and being on stage and she works really hard to be good, even though noone appreciates theater. But everytime Troy and Gabriella come around, everything is always handed to them, even though they don't take theater seriously at all. And suddenly everyone loves theater. She acts like a diva yes, but that doesn't make her a bad person, she is just motivated to get what she wants, but she is still the bigger person at the end and doesn't get upset
Sharpay is just fighting for her dream that Gabriella stole from her but you can see from the Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure that she succeed and became the broadway queen

yes but there was ulterior motives behind that job, thus tainting it

yes and she got to where she was by stepping on others, we can assume that gabrella wasnt the first time someone challenged her, not only that she also stepped on the toes of kelsey and her own brother
3: troy and gabrella have other priorities
yes and thats normal, people can have multiple intrests, but again these intrests wouldnt have collided had sharpay not changed the date on them beacuse of her propensity for stepping on others
2: sharpay has more training than troy or gabrella
yes and? nerratively that was a hurdle that had to be leaped, also in theater personality is everything, as well in school a good teacher would give others a chance to be in the lead roles
1: she doesnt act like a diva in the end
and that folks is what we call character growth, if she hadnt lost she likely would have acted like a diva
and guess what we dont really see her acting as much like a diva in the other 2 films, and in the last she is a genuinely nice person

Sharpay is honestly the villain in the movies but she’s a villain that eventually matures.
In the second movie she split up Troy and Gabriella, made her wildcat classmates summer a living hell, treated her brother horribly, and made Troy very uncomfortable just to sing with him.
And I know that Sharpay gave him a great future but it’s not about what’s good for Troy, it’s about what he wants for himself.

Villain is too strong a word except in 2. She was using her wealth, social status, and emotional manipulation to steal Gabriella’s boyfriend, to have him as her prize and also become the most popular girl in school again.
To be fair, that was about the only time she was really some kind of "villain". Other times she was too busy chasing after Zeke and his cookies, like I feel like Troy was probably just going to be a summer fling for her. Also, she never really lost her popularity. Sharpay was still practically the school's it girl. There wasn't really a sign that told me that Gabriella was ever the most popular girl. Like she was dating the school's it guy but that doesn't really make her popular. Like no-one was really running up to her and begging her to sign their yearbooks unlike Troy and Sharpay.

In defense of #2, some people are just naturally talented; however, it does take work to maintain or improve those talents.
PHSDM104 - Ah, but after graduation, Gabriella had no interest in theater or performing - she studied pre-law, and in HSM1, it was chemistry. Sharpay’s dream was always theater, making a *career* out of it. At graduation, Troy chose basketball and theater, but before HSM1, he had absolutely no interest in theater.

In high school it is all about being able to try new things that you love so if you want to try our singing that is not on Troy and Gabriella that is on sure pay for being so horrible to them especially the second movie
Not to mention, I feel sorry for Sharpay because she really worked hard for her dreams and never got into Julliard. After some character development, she was happy that her brother went into Julliard instead of her but you have to admit that she would’ve still been sad and she still worked so hard.

Why Sharpay was better than Gabriella:
Sharpay: Helps get Troy get a job, scholarship, and a career.
Gabriella: Cry and sing the moment Troy wants space.

First of all, Sharpay only did that to bribe him. Second of all, Gabriella had a right to cry because Sharpay was trying to steal Troy from her and he allowed it. And he broke a lot of promises he made to her

3) It's High School. Besides, if she hadn't changed the dates it would've been a non-issue. And the end of HSM 3) shows that Troy also considered theatre a priority.

If it had ended with the first movie, she could be seen as someone protective of her club and department. The second one turned her into a complete witch until she got her comeuppance after screwing over her brother who paid her back and DESERVED that Julliard scholarship.
I loved Sharpay~ I thought the same that they said in this video, that Gabriela was just handed everything so easily and that sucks for the one who works hard. 😓

Her getting kelsi a job was nice but troy getting a job was part of a different thing she was doing so I kinda agree but she didn't actually get the Wildcats jobs she was mad when they got there and tried to sabotage them and make them quit
Having said that I do like sharpay one of my favorite characters and she is not the villain but like come on she was kinda mean in the second

1. She gets Troy a summer job because she was BRIBING and MANIPULATING him to guilt-trip him to performing with her (with the bigger picture being she wants Troy to be with her instead of Gabriella). She was USING her privilege, wealth and power to GET WHAT SHE WANTS. Gabriella didn't have that same position of privilege but she's always been supportive and doesn't hinder his endeavors until she sees it changing him for the worse.
2. She's viewed as an outsider because she STEPS ON OTHER PEOPLE. Like how she treated Kelsi at the start of the video. How she disrespected Kelsi's work and efforts also and the song that was probably written with a more mellow tone because it was more appropriate for the corresponding scene. She's so selfish and self-centered that she even pushed away her brother and took him for granted. And despite everything, Troy and Gabriella mostly ignores her petty but damaging antics until it becomes too much for them to tolerate. They generally treat her with respect and don't harbor grudges against her too. But they're not close. Can you blame them?
3. It's true that she had dedicated her entire world to theater, but that does NOT excuse her attitude. When Gabriella and Troy came into the picture, she couldn't handle the competition. They had always played FAIRLY while Sharpay tried different antics to stop them, so they reacted. Just because she was there first doesn't mean she's the only one who had the right to be there. She doesn't know how to share the spotlight or be in healthy competition with someone. Besides, I think the point of the contrast between her very big production numbers to the ones Gabriella and Troy have is trying to emphasize the importance of HEART and SINCERITY. Sharpay performs to put herself on the spotlight. Gabriella and Troy perform to tell a story. It may not be their entire lives but that doesn't make it any less important.
4. Why are we acting as if she was never given a spotlight? She did. She said it herself, she had starred in 17 productions. And just because she's more trained doesn't automatically means she is best for the roles. Do veteran actors always get the lead roles? A lot of productions cast newcomers as leads and more veteran ones as supporting roles. It doesn't automatically mean they were robbed of the roles. She should know how to share the spotlight and stop thinking so lowly of other roles besides the lead. She's very proud. Roles are given to actors who can best portray them. Judging from the movie, the production called for a simpler, subtle portrayal. When she performs, Sharpay is all pizzazz and no substance. When Gabriella performs, it's simple but there's heart. That's the contrast between their two characters and probably why Gabriella was more fit for the role. Besides, so what are YOU teaching kids? That Sharpay's actions are okay??? They're not. Throughout the series she's been manipulative and vindictive in getting what she wants.
5. It's true that she always plays the good sport at the end of the movie. But then that is negated by how she's pretty much back to square one by the start of the next movie. Btw, are we supposed to forget how SHE BETRAYED AND MISTREATED HER BROTHER? All Ryan did was not let her perform at the talent show for the nth time in a row. But Sharpay had always treated her brother like a lackey, doesn't give him proper credit and cuts him off from performances in a snap. RYAN DESERVED THAT AWARD AND JULLIARD. He had worked on directing that number with the group. He put in great, substantial work. He found a group of people who appreciated his individual personality and talents. Sharpay took him for granted.
Totally agree with Sharpay was literally born to be on stage. That's why only having Sharpay's Fabulous Adventre. She's a queen.
