Looked like they were in a lodge/hotel. If they had opened the door the bear might have made the choice to go INSIDE where there might have been more people. More people means more chances to freak out the animal, harder time getting rid of it, damage being done inside. You can’t judge from such a short clip but seriously she could have kept her mouth shut or said something actually helpful since she was safe. Also, that’s a cub. The most danger they were in was not knowing where the mother bear was at.

This is actually really smart. The one saying “You’ll be fine” was likely inside the restaurant shop when the bear walked up. Black bears are pretty docile when they don’t feel threatened. If they can’t find food, they leave. Sudden movements can set them off and lead them into killing rampages because they feel threatened. By having everyone stay still, the owner was trying to keep the bear calm. She kept the door closed because if she opened it, the bear would’ve smelt any food inside and then broken the door or glass to get inside. So yeah, she sounds like a coward keeping the door shut and tell people to chill, but she is actually keeping the situation as calm as possible and then opened the door right after the bear started walking away.

1. Black bears and bears in general really aren’t aggressive. This is a black bear and was simply looking for food, bears don’t see humans as animals, and similar to raccoons they can eat HUMAN food, not humans. 2. Had the lady opened the door the bear would’ve smelt the food INSIDE, prompting the bear to stay even longer. 3. Sudden movements would have agitated the bear. The best thing you can do is simply stand still and not make it worse. But there’s really no reason to be afraid of bears or overreact. They are docile and really not going to attack unless provoked.

Similar to sharks, bears have been decimated in terms of reputation. Once you get to know bears they really aren’t that scary at all, in fact I’m probably more scared of unleashed dogs then I am of a black bear.
That young bear was showing curiosity and was very well mannered! Even when he leaned against the lady, it was being very gentle. Everyone did a great job remaining calm, which kept the bear calm as well.
I dont know much about bears but it would seem like the bear is used to being around humans! Maybe when he was younger he was befriended or raised by humans. 😮

This is actually really smart. The one saying “You’ll be fine” was likely inside the restaurant shop when the bear walked up. Black bears are pretty docile when they don’t feel threatened. If they can’t find food, they leave. Sudden movements can set them off and lead them into killing rampages because they feel threatened. By having everyone stay still, the owner was trying to keep the bear calm. She kept the door closed because if she opened it, the bear would’ve smelt any food inside and then broken the door or glass to get inside. So yeah, she sounds like a coward keeping the door shut and tell people to chill, but she is actually keeping the situation as calm as possible and then opened the door right after the bear started walking away.

1. Black bears and bears in general really aren’t aggressive. This is a black bear and was simply looking for food, bears don’t see humans as animals, and similar to raccoons they can eat HUMAN food, not humans.
2. Had the lady opened the door the bear would’ve smelt the food INSIDE, prompting the bear to stay even longer.
3. Sudden movements would have agitated the bear. The best thing you can do is simply stand still and not make it worse.
But there’s really no reason to be afraid of bears or overreact. They are docile and really not going to attack unless provoked.

Similar to sharks, bears have been decimated in terms of reputation. Once you get to know bears they really aren’t that scary at all, in fact I’m probably more scared of unleashed dogs then I am of a black bear.

My thoughts exactly. The bear was curious, and with everyone just holding still and not making a ruckus about it, it was able to stay in a curious state, then leave. I’m highly impressed with how well they all acted.
