Let's all just take a moment and appreciate the dedication, patience and sheer will this man has, to not only buy this game, but boot it up, click "Play," actually play, complete it AND find things to like about it...

Unfortunately the large majority of rocksteady's staff that were there for the arkham games just aren't at the studio anymore. I love the old rocksteady and I hope to see the current one get a fair shot to show off their talent but I'm honestly not expecting much. 🙁

I see a lot of gamers think that the studio name automatically means the game will be good.. They don't realise companies like rocksteady and Rockstar barley have anyone left in the company that was part of the orginal games success.. It's not the studio name that counts it's the names behind the studio.. If you are fan of GTA until now you are more a fan of Sam and Dan houser..

Tbh This game would work as a single player/coop open world with a bit of tweaking. Give us a prologue playing as the Justice League up until Brainiac's invasion. The Squad is sent in to help Diana, Bats and Flash deal with Green Lantern who has been trying to kill Superman. Superman beats Lantern and it's revealed that he is corrupted not Lantern and you just helped Brainiac collect a member of the League. Bat's goes to the Batcomputer and questions how he didn't catch Superman being corrupted discovering that the computer was sabotaged. Green Lantern ends up beating Flash thanks to Superman slowing the Scarlet Speedster. Bats and Diana jump to rescue a downed Flash while the SS provide covering fire. Lantern uses his ring to form a shield around Flash cutting Diana and Bats off. Diana pursues Lantern while Bats leaves to get his contingency plans in motion. Waller demands the League be killed. Corrupted Flash is captured and reveals they have to be killed. Bats and Diana disagree with Waller's kill the League leading to Bat's kicking the Squad's butt. Diana comes back from fighting Superman and Lantern injured. Bat's takes care of her while the Squad fights Flash incapacitating him. Waller being Waller shoots Flash in the head as soon as he's brought into the Hall of Justice. Batman beats Waller and nearly kills her but is only stopped by Diana grabbing his arm and pulling him off Waller revealing Batman has been corrupted but was fighting off the mind control until Waller murdered Flash. Batman escapes and the Squad gets scared and head straight to the Bat Cave meeting the Bat Family who got Batman's distress call and reveal that Bruce sabotaged the computer to trigger the signal and inform the Bat fam that he's also been corrupted and doesn't have long till he succumbs to it. Batman explains his contingency plans are to neutralize and incapacitate the League until a way to free them from the mind control is figured out. Batman's eyes change to purple shortly after his hologram stops talking revealing he's been corrupted for longer then anyone thought. Diana dies to Superman who is now immune to Kryptonite. Firestorm appears and makes Gold Kryptonite while the Bat family try subduing Batman and fail. Lantern kills Firestorm. The Squad beats Lantern, removes his ring and puts it in a yellow lantern to prevent it from powering up. The Squad fight Superman with the gold Kryptonite that Firestorm died to protect, depowering the Man of Steel. The Bat fam are tied up like trophies in Batman's Museum, Jason breaks free and escapes demanding Waller help with the rescue op he's planning. Batman is beaten but the bat family are killed trying to stop Batman from killing the Squad. Harley removes the cowl from the Caped Crusader and points her gun. "I'm sorry Bruce, you tried to fight back and would've won. But you wouldn't be the same. Not after everything." *BANG* Braniac captures the Squad and they beat him using a mix of their and the Justice League's moves as their own way to honor the heroes. Harley drags Braniac to Arkham where he gets executed by literally all of the League's rouges gallery. Waller gets pissed and is about to blow up the brain bombs on the squad only for the detonator to be shot out of her hand. Nightwing and Red Hood survived their injuries from Batman and Nightwing ends up taking the mantle while the Squad and Waller are locked up. Jason and Dick train the Teen Titans to hopefully stop a threat on this scale before it happens with the Squad giving random advice to the heroes. A new League is formed from the ashes of the first and as far as any civilian knows the Justice League died fighting Braniac and were cloned by him.

Batman deserved a better ending, do hope that the clone theory is correct and our Batman that we grew up with way back in 2009 is still out there when this one who died on a bench was a fake. @@KavinCatastrophe I'm gonna be honest: the fact that the game requires you to always be online makes me hesitant to say they truly care about their fans.
With this game's pretty poor sales, there's a very real possibility that they'll shut down the servers in a year or two if player numbers don't really go up. Or if the people that play don't really dole out the cash in the game store.
And when that happens nobody who likes the game will be able play anymore, since you are required to be connected to the server to even play single player. They'll "Peace Out" as you put it.
Practices like that only serve to hold the game ransom from its actually loyal playerbase if they wanna keep it, it's a real scummy practice.
If they end up updating the game to not require online for single player I'll take it back, but it's hard for me to believe they care too much about the fans having a quality game until they do.

As someone who enjoyed the game while playing, I DO want this to continue if only for Rocksteady to have the chance to play out the WHOLE story they have planned. I think we basically all know at this point that the Justice League, OUR Justice League isn't truly dead (except for WW, but I'll get to her in a bit). There are plenty of videos that explain the evidence better than me, so all I'll say is: disappearing bodies and calendars. And the fact that all those elements (including the ones I didn't mention) are in the game FROM THE GET GO shows that Rocksteady knows that people would hate it if they just straight up murdered their Justice League and have a plan to bring them back. There's a lot of ways they could do it and I have a fair few of my own theories on how they can, INCLUDING WW, so if you want me to write them below, let me know (also a nice little thing they could do with Joker when he shows up). I'm just really hoping this game lives long enough for them to get the chance to tell that story, so the Arkham Universe isn't just left in that state.

We got about halfway through the game and the shotty gameplay, the insane story, the glitches, and the awful performance that we experienced caused us to drop it. I remember the exact thing that convinced me to drop it. It was just after the green lantern fight which neither of us had fun fighting and then when the Wonder Woman death cutscene hit mid way through the riddler started saying a riddle I just lost it and broke down laughing hysterically. That and then an awful graphics glitch that hurt my eyes had me drop the game and regret preordering it hard. My friends insistent I give it a second chance but I just can’t.

You probably won’t see this comment but I’ve been following your channel for a long time now and even though I can’t watch this video yet because I’m in the midst of the campaign, I just wanted to say thank you. So many people have been trashing and tearing this game to bits, but I’ve been a massive fan of the Arkham series since before I even got my first Xbox 360 in 2010 and played through Asylum, I know just about everything there is to know about these games and the extended lore, and have followed every single trailer and reveal since the Arkham City reveal trailer. For a lot of reasons this series means the world to me and I’ve been trying to say that this seems like the most one of the most player-friendly live service games you can play, and RockSteady doesn’t force any payments on you or down your throat, but it kills me to see how this has been treated. Anyway, I know the game is probably dead and will be abandoned very quickly but I hope it doesn’t mean the same for all DC games, or the Arkham series. Now with Kevin Conroy’s passing, I personally think it would be very interesting to see other parts of this universe fleshed out in games, but whatever way it goes, thank you for defending something that means the world to me. Also, the story is SO ENJOYABLE, from what I’ve played!

I'm like that with The Last of us 2. IMO you can't trust "gamers" on judging art. They like blind escapism that they know they'll love playing before they even touch it. Most don't even criticize the game as a whole, but the context surrounding it, it baffles me. Like just because something doesn't meet your expectations doesn't make it objectively bad. Why does it matter what developers are saying on twitter? Or the concepts the companies rejected? Its literally their choice...I'm convinced most gamers on the internet just wanna play the same type of experience forever. Rather have a "bad" game come out that's unique than Call of Duty 50

    • @kidkamando
      @kidkamando 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

@@jameer7565 "Gamers", or rather regular people, are the final judges of art. Once the piece is released, the author's original vision isn't always tied with the product, only the vision of the viewer is. TLOU2 is a decent game, but the narrative takes a lot of missteps (namely 2 large ones) that caused the reaction it did.
      1. Much like with D&D and other RPGs (including the Arkham games), not all "narrative" choices resonate with players the same way as in a movie. In this case, killing off a player character (previous or not) is a bad decision if it isn't built up to within the context of that singular game. The problem with both these experiences is that the death isn't built up to/isn't earned.
1A. Joel's death is a surprise that the game ends up "apologizing" for by dealing with the trauma after the fact, which would be a great maneuver if the payoff was worth it. By denying many players of the catharsis of killing Abbey in favor of telling a specific narrative, it rips the control and "role-playing" from the player. This can frustrate many players who struggled to empathize with Abbey and results in immense dissatisfaction.
1B. For SSKTJL, it's a relatively short game and the player characters don't feel like they have much agency. So much of the story is progressed without the influence of the Squad that with the repetitive gameplay it soon became boring to many. That, combined with the failure of the game to fully explore the idea of a mind-controlled league by starting the game in the 3rd Act of the story in-world, ends up making many of these deaths feel unearned (especially when combined with the lackluster gameplay). If the game had more time to sit with the Justice League and explore those characters, many of their sendoffs would've had the weight that their gravitas in-game would seem to portray. Instead, it feels that it cheaply relies on the player's experience with existing media to carry it.
      2. As important as it is to consider the vision contained solely within a work of art, the context around said art can often play an important role in how it's received. Because of the fact that TLOU2 had a set of writers whose sole purpose was representation, many decisions were attacked with that context in mind.
In contrast, take a look at Baldur's Gate 3. BG3 is very progressive, with adept writing that supports any choice the player may make. It doesn't invalidate or undermine any decision or manner of thought, instead attempting to interject and truly discuss the grey area within any decision. If TLOU2 had developed that grey area via Ellie's introspection instead of just relying on the player's compassion and empathy, the ending would've likely been better received. Even if it wasn't in the player's control, the mere build-up by growing Ellie and asking the player to be introspective (beyond the final confrontation) would have been much better than what was delivered.
Finally, it's been shown that gamers DO want diversity and a good story over the past decade. Minecraft, Baldur's Gate 3, Red Dead Redemption 2, Prey, Far Cry 3, Skyrim, Breath of The Wild, Helldivers 2, Hollow Knight, God of War, and Elden Ring are all very diverse games. While traditional shooters like CoD and Apex might have reliable yearly sales, the most acclaimed games have unique and refreshing gameplay. Shooters are just popular because they are some of the easiest to make and have been engineered (not designed) to have an addictive quality (much like League of Legends, Overwatch, and the ilk). It's been scientifically proven that competitive games (which yes, even casual shooters contain competitive elements) have been made to be highly addictive, especially over the past 5 years. In fact, Overwatch even has a patent for addictive matchmaking practices.
Saying the general public, whom the art is for, are not good "judges of art" is disingenuous to the public itself. While much of the public is susceptible to the aforementioned psychological traps, those are specifically crafted to elicit that experience from said general public. So when a game, which fails in its design (to be addictive in the case of SSKTJL and to be an enjoyable and deep narrative in the cast of TLOU2), is perceived as negative reviews and outrage, then the art did fail in some aspect. Now, it is totally okay to love and appreciate these games, but it's not like either of these were created with the same philosophy as Ready or Not, which is a game made with the idea to confront controversy head-on. And yet, Ready or Not, despite all its outcry, is still well-received while these two games are not.
Both TLOU2 and SSKTJL misstepped in multiple ways. While I wholly believe in the enjoyment of games and the appreciation of even the bad apples in the bunch (hence why I watch this channel), these games have outrage because they were handled poorly. The narrative of TLOU2 does not match what many of its players are feeling and fails to move them enough for its character growth to feel compelling. SSKTJL mishandled its characters by being manhandled by the publisher and being forced to be solely about arguably the least interesting piece of the story: We all know they're going to die (duh), but the how and why are more interesting, compelling, and important to the eventual payoff of the experience. The game would have (arguably) been much better if the game started with initial invasion and if Brainiac had to perfect his control of the Justice League over time, iterating with each member he assimilated. This would have made Superman's Kryptonite immunity feel more earned, allowed players to get attached to the various heroes for their later sendoffs, have greater opportunities for fanservice, and would have given players the time to have closure over each member before their deaths. It also would have helped the game's fast-paced story by giving it the time to develop narrative ideas and themes that could be paid-off later, such as more setup to take down each member.
The public is right, these games have massive flaws. But so does every game and every piece of art. These games are flawed, but that doesn't mean they can't still be fun or mean something beyond their problems. I can appreciate what exists in both TLOU2 and SSKTJL, but it feels like both games just needed more time to edit and be reviewed to really capture what they set out to.
Games are built on love and innovation. Sadly, many only focus on one part of the piece's whole. Either they only see the flower or only feel the thorn.

@@kidkamando Thats what im saying, one part over whole. Every criticism you had are things that didn't even cross my mind playing. Like being progressive? Maybe because I'm black but having different character designs other than cis white man doesn't make something progressive. I literally do not notice and never do. I don't see why it's such a common talking point on artistic merit in gaming? Like why is it directly effecting your enjoyment if someone made a trans character purely because they thought it was cool? I still stand by it, the gaming community is a joke. Why does all this context matter for the experience? Just play the game and like it or don't, almost every long form game story you've ever consumed has "bad" politics you won't agree with, why do we draw lines on women and black people then hop on gta for murder time? No narrative reason at all, purely gameplay, still the best-selling game created and its a mass shooter sim, but no women saying men bad? Ready or not isn't even controversial because its core player base are straight white guys who laugh at shorts on YT of virtual brutality like most realistic shooters there's not many blacks or women pretending to be marines and cops, where is this controversy twitter? Ive never ever heard any complaints on it. I literally cant play it because it reminds me of when I experienced police brutality. You don't see me crying that the developers killed my first born son and burned all my crops. Like why do their intentions even matter? Isnt my experience the end all be all anyway? I don't buy a game and just expect to know the exact experience I'm going to get what's the point? Like I'm really confused by the RON thing I played it before for a few hours and never heard of it again, there's nothing controversial about brutality and violence especially in a community dominated by guys it's the norm. The Dangerous ideas about changing society are too much to handle tho.

    • @kidkamando
      @kidkamando 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@jameer7565 Each player connects with a different experience. Ready or Not isn't about police brutality, it's about the realistic situations police enter during mass shootings. It literally got banned off Steam more than once for being too realistic (though one was over copyright). It's quite controversial, especially during a time when tensions are high between cops and the general public.
I also don't care about the race of characters. However, the race can help people connect and empathize with the character(s), which is integral to crafting the experience and guiding the feelings the player will have. Despite this, my argument never touched on race or representation as a core factor that ruins experiences. The point I made was that the context about the medium matters just as much as the message the medium transfers. The content of TLOU2 changes based on whether you include the cultural factors of the series or not. Most people don't care about the representation if it's done with taste and respect. People love the representation in The Owl House, but hate it in TLOU2 because it isn't earned. The representation in TLOU2 doesn't make the majority of gamers empathize and connect with Abbey, which is a major part of the experience the developers made, as TLOU2 is a narrative game. Abbey was made to represent a group to pander to them, not because it's integral to the story or her character growth. The events would have occurred whether she was trans or not, so her status as representation is cheap, whereas the relationship between Ellie and Dina DOES have narrative importance and is integral to both their characters. That relationship was built up well and despite some not-as-well-received choices, was not flamed for being cheap.
Of course people don't care about the story or representation in GTA as much because GTA isn't a narrative game. It's a sandbox third-person-shooter. People care about the sandbox and the fun of the environment, not whether Trevor is black, white, trans, or anything else. However, despite this, the actual writing of GTAV is actually quite competent, as it explores themes like capitalism, greed, and self-loathing. Even within this game with less "narrative substance", it is still written with competence and respect, which is contrary to TLOU2 or SSKTJL, which both disregard proper writing practices (namely the build-up) in favor of rushed endings. It's not about "progressive" messages being shoe-horned in. It's about the quality and effort. It's readily apparent that these games don't have the same love and appreciation put into them as other masterpieces like RDR2.
And yes, I agree, having representation for the sake of representation doesn't make things progressive. That's the point. People were outraged because it's not actually progressive and is very obviously a ploy to acquire their support. Ellie (and therefore the player) don't connect with Abbey throughout the story, which makes the Abbey section feel awful. The game teaches us to hate and disassociate with Abbey, rather than to empathize and relate. Then, it forces the player to put themselves in her shoes and sympathize because she suffered? So did Ellie and especially Joel. TLOU2 has many themes about suffering and emotional trauma and it expects the player to become invested in all its characters equally, when the player has been given a bias from the previous game. We DON'T spend enough time with Abbey to build this rapport, unlike in GOW Ragnarok with Thor.
People get angry because they get invested and care about the story. You might not, and that's how you enjoy games. That's completely valid and awesome for you. But you shouldn't dismiss the investment and care from others about these works of art just because they care about it in a different way. Video games, especially RPGs, are made to have the players feel like they are the characters or like they know them, at the least. RPG protagonists are very likeable (for long-winded reasons I'd rather not get into). So when those characters (who are audience-inserts) feel mishandled, those who are invested in these characters get upset because they feel betrayed or slighted. They enjoy, maybe even love, the story and world BECAUSE of the narrative. That's how they enjoy the game, which is just as important as gameplay may be to you. It'd be like if the next GTA game didn't have crime; It wouldn't be a GTA game.
Also, side note, the best-selling game of all time is Minecraft, followed by GTAV, then Tetris. RDR2, Witcher 3, and Pokemon fall within the top 15. While gameplay for games is important, 20% of the top 15 games are RPGs. People care about the story (of which GTAV's is quite highly praised, even if it isn't its selling point).

He said that? Wow I actually like that! Making a video for the people that actually enjoys the things that a Majority hate. It kind of like a safe place where people can go to enjoy the things they like.

Oh you the mean the same Rise of Skywalker video where he told people to pretend it was a good movie to enjoy? That's some extreme levels of cope.

I never knew this was Conroy's last Batman and it makes me sad that that's what he ends his illustrious career on. I am glad that they acknowledged it and him, however.

Warner are quickly becoming the most hated company in the world. Because of what they are doing to all media, let alone the gaming industry. An absolute clusterfuck.

My buddy was initially hating on SSKJL but then we watched the full cutscene movie and we immediately fell in love with the story and dynamic. It’s fantastic and got him to change his mind on what he didn’t think much of

I know it’s hard to find things to love, but with that “that’ll be $20” joke at 8:53 they did actually give that skin for free. You just have to do the riddler stuff.

This video surely has to be one of the best ways to experience the game. Thanks for putting in the effort to make it!
And I think the negatives had to be addressed. It would feel much less sincere without them.

I get not liking the game and jumping to the conclusion that this isn’t the game rocksteady wanted to make, but why not actually think for a second that maybe this is the game rocksteady wanted to make from the start. The live service bit might not have been apart of the original plan but I bet you that the game itself was part of the original plan.

I'd say 90% of the hate doesn't come from the actual quality of the characters but rather the fact that this takes place in the Arkham universe, which a lot of people have nostalgia for. This doesn't mean it's "good," but it lifts it up to just mediocre.

Pretty sure 90% of the hate is from the repetitive nature of the game and the fact that the characters use guns

@@PeopleRTheProblem No the hell it’s not. Those make the game mediocre, but people out here acting like rocksteady personally murdered their favorite puppy.

@@LineOfThy yes the hell it is. If this game weren’t as repetitive (9 years of development shouldn’t be this level of repetitive) and if it were priced at $40 next to nobody would hate this game. They’d say “it’s pretty good for $40”. People are mad because how does it take you 9 years to produce something so mediocre, and then to charge $70-$100 for it after delaying it a year.
