When it comes to the Joker Mirror thing, I always took it as Clayface standing in front of the mirror as Sick Joker then changing himself into normal Joker as he's turning.
Actually, you can see in the mirror when he turns Joker’s tattered garb walking away. I was shocked when I saw it, myself, because I always thought the same.
"You want to know something funny? Even after everything you've done, I would have saved you" Still to this day, one of the best Batman lines regarding the Joker.
One thing I hoped you would mention: When you're in the top of the church with the bombs about to go off, they won't immediately go off. Joker foreshadows the ending of the game, after which he detonates the bombs. Here's the full dialogue piece: Joker: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. See you soon, Bats. What are you waiting for? We both know how this is going to turn out. You're going to come and find me. You can't stop yourself, can you? Sometimes, I wonder if all this will just end with one of us looking down at the other's corpse, trying to work out what to do next. The only question is, whose body will it be? I know who I'm rooting for. What about you? (Joker lets out a creepy and maniacal laugh.) Joker: Now get out of there now, or you'll ruin everything. BOOM. Credit goes to Batman Arkham Videos for revealing that Easter Egg.
lol I didn't notice that, I wasn't able to escape on time and realized that the building didn't explode. I thought it's a bug but seems like I got out before Jokers speech was over. Thanks for that hint.
2:07 nobody ever mentions this but I think when he talks to alfred here, the detail of him having his sleeve rolled up so he can talk directly into the watch is so nice. Especially since this is the one and only time this could happen in the game since you only play as Bruce there.
@@issacle5413 yeah but the issue is Batman is standing right there lol, surely the worlds greatest detective would see him turning. To me the mirror thing is just for the audience because it’s what we actually expect, but when he turns around is how he actually looks like. Maybe you’re right idk.
And plus if Batman actually saw him all sick in the mirror he’d say speak out, I’d say that was just for us to see and not what was actually happening.
It was confirmed by both developers and heavily implied in the flashback reveal that clayface joker was mirroring the real jokers movements so it looked like joker was just standing in a mirror
I've been having a rough go of it lately but your videos and the amount of positivity in them has really helped me a lot thank you so much gaming wins :)
0:21 i only just realised Catwoman in the story was playable with DLC and i never realised because i got the GOTY edition and was confused when i would see gameplay without catwoman
You're videos great! You present your points well and I respect not every story is for everyone. As an Arkham City fanatic however, I think there are two things I'd at about your narrative critiques. 1.) Sometimes Batman just being Batman is great, I don't believe every story needs to destroy his desire to be Batman, especially after 70 years. 2.) The theme this game presents, in my eyes, is the importance of life. As you point out, Batman is constantly looking for loopholes to break his one rule, his first thought isn't to stop protocol 10 but to save Thalia and the cure is more important to him since it saves 'innocents'. This is an old Batman, he's used to his one rule but is tired of it. He's happy to let Nora, Solomon Grundy and all the criminals in Arkham die if he's not the one pulling the trigger. But right at the end, when he's lost the person he loves most and sees how pathetic the Joker is, he realises the importance of saving people, no matter how evil. It's the difference between crime fighting and being a superhero. He's still Batman, he never stops being, but he learns to save people again rather than stop tragedy, which is important for Arkham Knight as he needs to save Jason and learn he can't stop every crime
I really don't think its about wanting to give up his no killing rule. He's just that confident and smart enough to know what could kill someone. Batman in general is a cynical person so Arkham City is just another night for him.
@@Aeluron I don't think it's necessarily that he wants to break it, as much as it's that he's so used to it it's stopped being important to him. As you say, this is just another night for him and we all end up slacking off at work eventually. He's looking for loopholes in the same way someone looks for shortcuts when sending their 500th email that day. His night in Arkham City, facing villains who believe they are good because they kill all criminals, losing the woman he loves most and seeing how pathetic and human even the Joker can be, helps to reignite the anger and passion for his one rule. It becomes important to him again, which is why he wants to save Joker by the end
If he was getting sick of it(He wasn't but..) Why would he even object to the not killing part during the League of Assassins part? Sure he fooled Talia about the ready to kill but he seemed still committed to the rule as any other. I don't think this "Tired of his rule" is anything other then headcanon.
I'm honestly a bit surprised you didn't talk about the DLC, Harley Quinn's Revenge, but to be fair with the points you made at the end, not much happens in it to warrant it aside from Harley SOMEHOW getting the Wonder City bots to serve her (seriously, how'd she do that?) I love this entry simply for the "Empire Strikes Back" feel it gives me. Cause yes, this is just the precursor to the Arkham entry with the deepest (though semi predictable if you know Batman) story in the series. The Deathstroke fight in Knight is stupidly embarrassing though, no one can deny that.
there's arkham knight prelude comics that explains how Harley got the Wonder City bots! can't remember the comics exact name but it's def under arkhamverse comic titles !
I loved the visualization of Gotham city with all the mix of gothic and steampunk aesthethics when you reach the oldest parts. There's something special about this that made me wish to see so much more of this iteration of Gotham City.
Well, to borrow an extrapolation of your own line, if everyone has their favorite child, then they're also going to have a least favorite, but it doesn't mean you don't still love them. So, if that's where City sits for you, then... 10:17
And if you think about it this was Batman when he showed more humor he wasn’t just serious about everything he showed emotion, in asylum he was just emotionless, Origins he was just Mad, Knight He was just Angry but in City he was more chill and slightly happy he balanced his anger and happiness to where he won’t just be the Batman we know he became who he is on the inside and mixed it with his Batman side if you know what I mean
My favorite game personally is Arkham Origins. The acting, fights, and suits are some of the best. My two favorite scenes are when Bruce and Alfred are arguing about Bruce leaving and when Joker gets blown off of a bulding. That scene was awesome. I also really like everyones suits, especially Jokers. I also liked solving the Black Mask crime
I appreciate your honesty in sharing your opinion. As someone who has been replaying the Arkham games since the first one came out when I was 9, I can't help but love all of them, but it's nice hearing other takes on these games. Also, I loved your speech at the end.
on my first playthrough, the long climb up to the top of Wonder Tower had me freaking out because I'm not a fan of heights. the fact the game could give me anxiety is a win, in my book
My favorite game is Batman Arkham Knight. It holds a special fondness in my heart because it was the first game I played. I'll never forget starting up the game late at night for the first time and loving the feel of it completely. None of the other games gave me that feel. And I don't think any ever will.
Arkham city is definitely one of my favs without a doubt , I love the vibe this game gives me , its dark , suspenseful and thrilling to play , and it feels like ur in Gotham , the story is good and a few twists , the voicing is phenomenal , Kevin Conroy and mark Hamil knock it out of the park in this game. Definitely my favourite of the 4 for sure.
I remember getting this game on launch, just getting out of college, came home off the bus around 5, ran to the store, got my reserved copy and was like "YES, this is gonna be hype!" and then the scene were Bruce Wayne breaks his restraints before beating up all of Penguin's dudes, that was such a ton setter. That might be my favorite part of the game honestly, because it establishes just how tough Batman is. While City has good predator spots, the combat was so improved upon that it is always what shines in my mind. It is probably my favorite Arkham game because of the improvements, the quality of life fixes. Not just to combat but the diving while gliding, the kicking off the walls into another glide, the ability to just perch on a railing, which was SOMEHOW not in Asylum, the added running ninja flip Batman can do, and the forced exploration, fun exploration. I will agree, the story is kinda...like, honestly, the Ra's and Talia parts piss me off, they're shoe horned in. I loved how Strange was immediately a threat, and ever present but out of reach (like the Joker in Asylum) but they made him way more of a backseat villain.
I always thought this game was over hyped even at the time when I played it. I loved it but I never really thought it was better than asylum. I think its a great game and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Asylum was the atmosphere, Knight was the best looking and best gameplay, Origins was a great telling of Arkham batman's early years and City was a great introduction to new mechanics, characters and world exploration. Thats were it stops for me. I still think Knight is my favourite because aside from the bad decisions with the hints for the knight's identity and the lack-lustre deathStroke boss fight it had a fun batmobile experience. The tank battles were too frequent but they were at least fun.
Arkham City is either my favorite or second favorite Arkham game, because imo of all 4 of them it feels like this one captures the feel of batman more than the other
I like Arkham City but my favorite is Knight... Yea, it's a tank sim and the reveal was obvious from a mile away but I'm a sucker for ''hero conquers his inner demon'' stories... And I'd argue there is no better representation of that than Batman's inner doubts manifesting as Joker hallucinations in modern stories...
First of all I never watched "everything great" or "everything bad" about something before, but you got me! Second, guys can we appreciate how much professional this man voice is.
(I wrote way too much here, I'm sorry) I gotta put this as third favourite of the Arkham Games. In all honesty, my order is the reverse order of release. 1. Knight 2. Origins 3. City 4. Asylum Now granted, I absolutely love all 4 of these games more than I care to admit. But I have the most memories with Knight, and the biggest connection to it. Beating the 240% a few times will do that. I'm not trying to brag when I say it's my most successful game either. The only platinum trophy I have ever achieved, and I am missing only 3 achievements in the whole DLC. But that's not what makes it good. People weren't a fan of the Batmobile sections, saying they felt all the same. I still couldn't get over the fact I was driving the Batmobile. The story is just... Perfection, in my eyes. There is no better way I could ever think of ending that game, and ending the quadrilogy. I can tell I'll get hate for saying Asylum is 4th, but it's the most fitting place for it. I just didn't enjoy my time there as much as I did in City, or Origins. And I still love Asylum. It was a revolutionary game and truly a masterpiece in so many ways. But I do think it has some flaws. One of the focus points for me in gaming is the voice acting. And I hate to admit this but... I didn't really like Kevin's performance in Asylum. It feels way too forced, and not as... Batman as the rest of the games. Origins, I have the same points as many others. Seeing a younger, angrier, tougher and more insane version of Batman and the Joker was a really cool experience. And going back to the voice acting, this is quite possibly my favourite game in terms of just vocal performance. Roger Craig Smith is one Batman I wish I could see more of. His performance was nothing if not amazing, and perfect for this young, angry Batman. And Troy Baker's Joker... Obviously, there is no Joker like Mark Hamill, but Troy Baker to me is an incredibly close 3rd, just behind Ledger (RIP). His performance gives me chills every time I play the game, even at this point 8 years later. But City. The way I see it is City is all of these games combined into one. Amazing setting, amazing vocal performance, pretty damn good story (even if lacking at times). And it does all of these... but when you put them all together, it just doesn't feel as right as the other games. It does all of these but just not as "at the peak" like the game with that skill. City is the first Arkham game I played and I still play it to this day, quite a lot. And I love the comic book vibes in the game... but putting it third just seems the best place. If you actually took the time to read all of this, I am so sorry. You now know the opinions of another random person online, so congratulations
9:38 Okay, here's what happens, and it's rather simple: It's just a big window. Clayface Joker is on the side with Batman and Sick/Real Joker is on the other. Clayface Joker/Basil Karlo is an actor and his powers allow him to perfectly mimic someone down to their voice, expressions, tone, and movements. It makes sense that he would be able to perfectly copy Sick Joker's movements as Sick Joker stands on the other side of the glass. Hell, it isn't even a stretch to think that in all the downtime while Batman is running around, the two would be rehearsing their big reveal. We know that Joker loves his jokes and twists and Clayface would do anything to play the "role of a lifetime." So when it's time for the reveal, when Clayface Joker turns around to face Batman, Sick Joker backs away from the glass to watch the fun. There are a couple things to support this. First, when Batman is figuring things out in the Monarch Theater, the flashbacks of gameplay, we see a different angle of the Steel Mill cutscene and in it, when Clayface Joker turns, we see that Sick Joker, aka Real Joker, remains facing the way he is, revealing the glass to be a mirror. Additionally, when you look at their clothes, we can already see that Clayface Joker's clothes are lighter colored and not as stained, while Sick Joker's clothes are darker and bloodstained from his sickness. If you look closely you can also see that Clayface Joker's hair is still vibrant green and not patchy like Sick Joker's. So yeah, pretty simple. Big glass window, Clayface Joker on the side with Batman, Sick/Real Joker on the other.
My favorite detail/win/whatever you wanna call it: Whenever there’s a cutscene with Harv on screen, notice how when Harvey is talking, the camera cuts to where we can only see his good side. When Two-Face is talking, the camera cuts to where we can only see his bad side. Love this.
So I just got done playing City, Asylum, and Origins like 2 days ago and honestly I think something that needs to be pointed out is that Batman isn’t worried about people dying, he just doesn’t want to be held responsible for their death. He will sacrifice lives at this point if he stops who he is trying to stop, like the Joker or Strange! We see a big difference from Origins to City and that is the transformation of vigilante to crime fighter, to ultimately, a superhero. When he’s faced with the decision doing what Bruce Wayne wants to do and doing what Batman should do, we can hear the internal struggle as he listens to Alfred! Great game! But in my opinion, it is the number 3 spot so far on my list. It’s not that there’s stuff I hate about it, just that there’s too many things I like about the other games
9:36 I think clayface joker was standing in front of a window that the real joker was standing behind of, the window was so dirty that it looks like a regular mirror.
Arkham City is by far my favorite but it's also the first one I played. Asylum feels so cramped after flying around the city, but it's really a 1a 1b kind of deal.
Thank you for the video, as usual. I may disagree that they had JokerDurden pre-planned, because there were rumours, that Paul Dini wanted to make the sequel all about Scarecrow and Hush. As we know, he did not write Knight, but still I can give them a win for tying the plot to Bruce's hallucinations in this one. Totally agree with you about the comicbook feeling of this game. It still has some elements of gothic horror though, especially in everything concerning Wonder City. Some of the scenes are still stuck with me and it gave me the feels to rewatch Bruce talking to Alfred, surrounded by helicopters, while the definitive main theme played in the background. It felt good to hear a more critical approach, and at the same time, appreciation of this work. Waiting to see what's next)
I was never a mirror, just the two jokers standing in front of each other and mirroring themselves. That's why when Clayface turns, the reflection doesn't (as the "reflection" is looking in the same direction it was before clayface turning) You can't notice it when it happens because then Clayface turns, the frame cuts into just showing him instead of him along Joker. You only notice this on the flashback after the reveal, in which the game pulls a Scooby Doo adding this detail along the others. You can also check where the "mirror" was and see that in fact, there is no mirror
7:37 , if that doesn’t count as Batman killing Solomon then surely in the Arkham Knight DLC for Ra’s he’s technically not killing him since he always “rebirths”
I never paid attention but Kevin Conroy does a great job of giving Bruce and Batman their own voice while not actually doing any significant voice changes
I replayed this game a few days ago and I noticed that when Batman came back to Steelmill after a while, there was a video of the Joker telling "I feel better than ever" and talking about a plot in a movie, which of course is directed at the story itself, the cameraman was the Original Joker because he was coughing while he was recording Clayface explain the Plot, suits well because Basil is an actor.
Origins was my first arkham game. A friend of mine gave it to me around Christmas 2013. I gave it a go because I knew it was a prequel to asylum and city, so I wasn't concerned with potential spoilers as I didn't think there would be any. Surprisingly, prior to receiving this game, I wasn't really a batman fan. But Origins made me a batman fan. Seeing Bruce be so ruthless, unstable and angry was bizarre to me but when the story was about to come to a close, seeing how guilty he felt letting Alfred almost die, that lady in the bank die, the fact that he resuscitate bane, the one villain who knew his identity and tried to kill his only family and ruin his crusade against crime. That scene really resonated with me. It made me realise that underneath all that aggression and brutality is a man who uses his intellect and skill to do the right thing. A man who uses his pain for something good, righteous. Justice being dished out in a somewhat vengeful way, but never too much. I owe a lot to arkham origins and arkham knight(although the knight's identity itself was lame). I remember getting arkham knight and the day I got it, I will never forget how I felt during the scene of the ace chemicals "blast radius reduction" scene where Bruce says "It's what you taught me, do the right thing, that's all that matters." That line struck a chord with me. Roger Craig Smith was great. I loved him as Ezio and a young batman but Kevin Conroy will always be the quintessential Batman to me. As will Mark Hamill when it comes to The Joker. Batman is my idol when it comes to ethics. Those who are good deserve hope and those who do evil deserve to filled with fear so that may never do evil again, they also deserve rehabilitation.
Im offended one of the things you didnt cover is being able to punch the Penguin as Bruce Wayne in the very beginning as he cowers in fear after you beat the shit out of his mercenaries
I truly love the seen after you beat the penguin and call in the line launcher Alfred: Have you ever considered a bigger belt? Batman : I did, slowed me down
I’ll never forget Christmas 2011. I got Arkham City and Skyrim for my Xbox 360 and spent the next months getting lost in each game for hours on end. Before then I had mostly played 3D platformers and a couple FPS games, but those two completely shifted my paradigm on what video games had the potential to be.
With the mirror thing. I thought clayface joker was standing in front of a “mirror” but it is not a mirror but a hallway. And the reflection is the sick joker
This is how I always took the mirror scene. It’s not a mirror, it’s a window. Clay face is observing and mimicking the joker so he can be a better portrayal of it.
My only real issue with this game was that in my first playthrough, I would get distracted by side mission and forget what I was supposed to be doing. It wasn't a problem in subsequent playthroughs.
1. City 2. Origins 3. Knight 4. Asylum City was the second game i played but the first one i really understood, i’d ran around a few times on assassins creed 2 and asylum on my uncles PS3 when i was a kid, so when i got City on my own PS3 (which my mum finally let me have) it felt special, i was doing it on my own i played the game full through but running round arkham city, doing all the side missions, beating clay face after about a million tries, it all seems like a distant memory as now after playing through the game as i’ve gotten older it sounds cliche but they were the good old days, i can’t replay this game and feel the same along with many other games so that’s why i treasure these games so much because they made me feel great as a kid i have so many great memories that i can’t replicate now games aren’t the same anymore, i loved the arkham series but City will always be my favourite.
All the lore of Arkham City, the relationships between the villains, Wonder City, The tapes of Strange's interrogations, the overall atmosphere (when you climb Wonder Tower with Protocol Ten happening around you and the Main Theme starts blasting ughh soo GOOD), combat, being able to play as Catwoman, how they juggle such a huge roster of villains, side missions like Mad Hatter and Hush and of fucking course, having such a great comic book worthy story with Strange and Ra's as the main bad guys and ending with a Clayface twist and killing the Joker? DAMN, that's just... awesome. It is the crown jewel for a reason, such a masterpiece and my personal favorite.
So in the mirror scene this is what I think. I think it’s clayface with healthy joker’s back. And he looks like sick joker from the front. But when he turns around he molds himself into healthy joker. Also I love the touch where he only calls Batman by Batman instead of his joker nickname “bats”
I think this ones my favorite because it was one that I just played a ton when I was younger and because me as a child was like "ooh batman game where I get to be batman so cool". When I played this I didn't know about arkham asylum.
Yeah the Clayface plot twist I did not see that coming the first time playing through. Playing through it later I tried to pay more attention to the clues
A subtle nod at 10:27. Catwoman when thinking of choosing to leave Batman, has the seductive Catwoman voice we know. But when thinking of choosing to save Batman, more of Selina’s voice comes through.
One of my favourite hints that there are two jokers is how Clayface Joker always addresses Batman as "Batman" and his tone is always dripping with disdain, whereas the real Joker only ever calls him "Bats" in a playful tone.
I will be honest, that's the only one of the series that I played (because I haven't had the opportunity to play the others) so I'm really close to that one
He added two wins to Ra's dying at 11:56 This had the best plot twist in the series (second is Black Mask being Joker in Origins). Also, when fake Joker talks about the church in the Steel Mill, you can hear the real Joker coughing while filming it.
Whenever I play this game and Arkham Knight I like to imagine this is still a quick hallucination from scarecrow and he's actually still in Arkham Asylum. That way Joker doesn't actually die
Personally, Knight is my favorite (spoiler alert) because I love how Jay and Bruce interact. Bruce being willing to help Jay after all that he did. Its a far departure of comic bruce and i love it. Me and my friend often look at Jay ad the only real "Robin" of the gang. Despite his early murders later on her becomes the guy that'll drop a chase to help a old lady cross the streets. Jay the robin that relates to the people of Gotham and wants to help THE PEOPLE and not just stop bad guys. He just also happens to be a bit of a idiot. And thats why I love knight, i treats jay the way he should be treated, a Victim of a monster. Someone in need of help, someone in need of support. Jay is no where near beyond saving and has red camouflage clothing shows he still wants to be a Robin despite him thinking he isn't anymore. And Bruce acknowledging that and being willing to help him and support him is my favorite part of it all. It supports my believe that no one is beyond saving and everyone is deserving of help, support and a second chance. And that often times the people that do wrong are victims themselves. No their actions are not excused, but they deserve to be helped. Just like Jay does.
I could understand this being not your favorite Arkham game (it’s mine easily). Having played all 4 at this point I think this is still the best. To me this is the Dark Knight of comic book games and even with Origins and Knight coming after they don’t resonate the same. Having Batman in a super-criminal version of Hamsterdam from The Wire is dope and I think the dynamic of Batman coming to terms with his own mortality this far into his career is interesting. It’s the middle ground of Asylum and Knight which makes a better balance.
Arkham City is my #1 Fav game of all Time, Serious enough to buy into the Stakes, Yet Campy Enough for the Comic book Feel. And the Fact they made an Open World Asylum was amazing. Btw the Mirrior thing was Dramatic Effect ;)
What happened with the Joker mirror situation is that R.J. (Real Joker) was on the opposite side of the glass (I think it's glass?) And C.J. (Clayface Joker) was on the side where he jumps down and the boss fight commences, you can even see it in the flashbacks where Batman figures it out before it is to late
An interesting bit: Paul Dini wrote this, and also wrote the animated Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker. Both portray the death of Joker in them. In BB, Joker’s last words are “That’s not funny,” while in Arkham City they’re, “That actually is pretty funny.”
I think for the joker mirror thing clay face made him self look sick for batman to see but quickly changed when turning for a cool reveal (in character for the joker to ask him to to this or for clay face to improvise it)
3:12-3:31 A cool thing I noticed that may just be something no one who did it was thinking about is the movements of Two-Face’s head in each shot. In the first shot of Harvey’s side you see a sliver of the Two-Face side. The two times it cuts to the Two-Face side, you see parts of Harvey’s face when he turns his head. The last shot of Harvey’s side you only see that side. It seems like a visual representation of the internal conflict; Harvey appears to be fighting to keep his other side under control in this set of shots. I already liked the cinematography here, but I didn’t notice this until I saw your video.
I just finished rewatching your Origins and Asylum video earlier today and was wondering when you would upload the City video. Great timing! I agree with you on the fact that this game doesn't really have much going for it when looking at the plot. The entire thing just feels like a wild goose chase for the cure until the end when protocol 10 is activated and we have to stop it. The story is definitely the least impressive out of the 4 games. That said, it is still my second favourite out of the 4 (number 1 being Knight, because as much shit that game gets, I kinda enjoy the tank sim sections). The story might be lacking but just like you pointed out, the fact that it feels like a comic book in video game form, the greatly improved combat system from Asylum, the wide range of Villains and the overall quality of gameplay are reasons why I love it so much. Also it was the first Arkham game I played because i was a little kid who did not know back then that this was a sequel, so maybe nostalgia also plays a big part in me loving it so much Great video, eagerly waiting for the one on Arkham Knight now! :)
This was the single player game of my childhood. Sure there was Transformers War for / Fall of Cybertron, and Minecraft (can't be challenged), but this was the game I probably have the most hours on. The intro of breaking the cuffs, kicking Penguin's ass, and climbing Ace Chemicals to suit up is just *chefs kiss*. And we can't diss the score, especially the predator theme. And that Freeze fight was lowkey terrifying to me as a kid. "twinkle twinkle little bat, watch me kill your favourite cat.."
In the mirror scene, there is no mirror. It's just clean Clayface Joker and sick actual Joker standing opposite each other and creating a mirror effect by perfectly synching their actions. You can see it during the Clayface reveal cutscene. While Clayface Joker turns around to face Batman, actual Joker is standing behind him. Also, I agree on Arkham City's plot not being great. It's essentially going "but first!" a million times. Gotta stop Strange But first! Gotta Find an antidote to Joker's disease But first! Gotta find Mr. Freeze and have him make an antidote But first! Gotta fight Penguin and rescue Freeze But first! Gotta destroy his jammers to access the museum etc, etc... Despite this, Arkham City is still my second favorite Arkham game. It's not as riddled with glitches as Origins, and not as painfully repetitive as Knight. Asylum will always be my favorite. The design of the place is perfect, and the pacing is near-perfect. Asylum to me is like a horror story, while City and Origins were more like action thrillers.
I always thought there is no mirror at all. Joker and Clayface were waiting for Batman mirroring eachother and Joker ditches as soon as Clayface starts the fight
The thing I've noticed is when you get into these boss battles with much bigger blokes batman always needs to use something other then his fists to defeat them like Solomon Grundy you need to destroy the generator or power crate bane in arkham asylum you need to let him run into a wall to defeat him the titan monsters you need to control them to beat each other up then finish the job himself
Well even Masterpieces have their flaws, in some cases, many flaws. What made Arkham City amazing was what it built up from Asylum. It was the Halo 2 of the Arkham series. Bigger, refined mechanics, and a bigger audience to appease. I agree the story as a whole wasn’t the strongest of the Arkham series, but the world was just so immersive that we couldn’t walk away not satisfied. It set the bar for what the remainder of the Arkham games would be and even became the shiny example of how to make a superhero game.
There actually is no mirror it’s a set if you get up there (which you can) it’s only got a few details that would be reflected
I always thought it too until they later clarify it was both villains perfectly mirroring one another.
I always thought that clayface and the real joker were leaning on eachother so that it would look like a mirror
Well, Clayface was hell of an actor before, so i always thought there was no mirror, but Basil was perfeclty mirroing Joker
You missed one: if you look up at the roofs when Bruce Wayne first steps outside, you'll see Aszrael watching you from the roof.

One thing I hoped you would mention: When you're in the top of the church with the bombs about to go off, they won't immediately go off. Joker foreshadows the ending of the game, after which he detonates the bombs.
Here's the full dialogue piece:
Joker: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
(Joker lets out a creepy and maniacal laugh.)
Joker: Now get out of there now, or you'll ruin everything.
BOOM.
Credit goes to Batman Arkham Videos for revealing that Easter Egg.

Not winning Mark Hamill? That's a sin.
He did in Asylum
Mark Hamill is always a win.
2:07 nobody ever mentions this but I think when he talks to alfred here, the detail of him having his sleeve rolled up so he can talk directly into the watch is so nice. Especially since this is the one and only time this could happen in the game since you only play as Bruce there.
I think the whole "window joker" thing is just that it was clayface the entire time, and he was transforming his face mid turn around
Yeah but then... wouldn’t Batman see that since he’s looking at the mirror so he would see him transform?
@@capntens9747 i mean like while he's turning around so his face wouldn't be visable from the mirror or straight ahead

He's still Batman, he never stops being, but he learns to save people again rather than stop tragedy, which is important for Arkham Knight as he needs to save Jason and learn he can't stop every crime
yea
I'm honestly a bit surprised you didn't talk about the DLC, Harley Quinn's Revenge, but to be fair with the points you made at the end, not much happens in it to warrant it aside from Harley SOMEHOW getting the Wonder City bots to serve her (seriously, how'd she do that?)
I love this entry simply for the "Empire Strikes Back" feel it gives me.
Paul Dini didn’t write HQ Revenge which is why it’s not great.
@@Man0fSte3l Harley Quinn's Revenge is the best Arkham DLC

I loved the visualization of Gotham city with all the mix of gothic and steampunk aesthethics when you reach the oldest parts.
There's something special about this that made me wish to see so much more of this iteration of Gotham City.
Well, to borrow an extrapolation of your own line, if everyone has their favorite child, then they're also going to have a least favorite, but it doesn't mean you don't still love them. So, if that's where City sits for you, then... 10:17
Another great thing is you can see Azrael watching Bruce when you walk out with Ryder. He vanishes when he figures out he's been noticed.
THIS is the Batman that eats Nachos.
He's more serious in Knight but I wouldn't say he's angry
I think you should have added Harley's revenge cause it goes more into the themes of grief and descent slowly into madness
My favorite game is Batman Arkham Knight. It holds a special fondness in my heart because it was the first game I played. I'll never forget starting up the game late at night for the first time and loving the feel of it completely. None of the other games gave me that feel. And I don't think any ever will.
You should play the other 3 Batman Arkham games, those other 3 games are amazing as well.
For the reflection scene I always thought it wasn't a mirror, but glass with a very elaborate reflected scene behind it.
9:57 i was on one side and clayface was on the other. he was so perfectly reenacting my movements less than a second after me!
My favorite of the Arkham games is still Asylum, because it was so limited in its scope, but still open enough for satisfying exploration.
It’s not a tank sim
More then 60% of the game is the best version of arkham gameplay there is
And also amazing amazing graphics
I always thought that Joker recreated the room, and the mirror was actually glass
First of all I never watched "everything great" or "everything bad" about something before, but you got me!
Second, guys can we appreciate how much professional this man voice is.
(I wrote way too much here, I'm sorry)
I gotta put this as third favourite of the Arkham Games. In all honesty, my order is the reverse order of release.
1. Knight
2. Origins
3. City
4. Asylum
Now granted, I absolutely love all 4 of these games more than I care to admit.
No hate, I agree with this comment 101%

This is the real answer.

Can't wait for Arkham Knight the story of Batman in that game was amazing in my opinion 🙌🏼
11:37 "Joker's taken Talia, I'm going after them. STRANGE."
I was never a mirror, just the two jokers standing in front of each other and mirroring themselves. That's why when Clayface turns, the reflection doesn't (as the "reflection" is looking in the same direction it was before clayface turning)
You can't notice it when it happens because then Clayface turns, the frame cuts into just showing him instead of him along Joker.
Not my favorite but definitely a gem of it’s time. Thank you Rocksteady for the childhood❤️
Everything…the end
Love ur videos bro positivity>negativity
I replayed this game a few days ago and I noticed that when Batman came back to Steelmill after a while, there was a video of the Joker telling "I feel better than ever" and talking about a plot in a movie, which of course is directed at the story itself, the cameraman was the Original Joker because he was coughing while he was recording Clayface explain the Plot, suits well because Basil is an actor.
Gaming wins uploads a video on one of the greatest games of all times:
Me: now this, does put a smile on my face.
I'm just waiting for the video where he recognizes Troy's voice and the only line he says is "BAKER!!" in a raspy voice
What I love about the brief sword section is how the combo takedowns turn into cool sword moves that you see only once in the game.
Im offended one of the things you didnt cover is being able to punch the Penguin as Bruce Wayne in the very beginning as he cowers in fear after you beat the shit out of his mercenaries
With the mirror, i used to think that joker and clayface were just facing each other and that there was another track that mirrored the other one.
I truly love the seen after you beat the penguin and call in the line launcher
Alfred: Have you ever considered a bigger belt?
11:35- No dude. Batman would be pissed if he let that guy die
Jack Ryder infuriates me almost as much as the Riddler does in Arkham Knight, I wanna hurt them both- that’s gotta be a normal feeling…right?
My only real issue with this game was that in my first playthrough, I would get distracted by side mission and forget what I was supposed to be doing. It wasn't a problem in subsequent playthroughs.
12:00 That might be one of the coolest takedowns I’ve ever seen!
I think Higo Strange knowing Batman's true identity is kind of wasted because he doesn't do anything with it.
"Im doing okay"
That felt good
1. City
2. Origins
3. Knight
4. Asylum
City was the second game i played but the first one i really understood, i’d ran around a few times on assassins creed 2 and asylum on my uncles PS3 when i was a kid, so when i got City on my own PS3 (which my mum finally let me have) it felt special, i was doing it on my own i played the game full through but running round arkham city, doing all the side missions, beating clay face after about a million tries, it all seems like a distant memory as now after playing through the game as i’ve gotten older it sounds cliche but they were the good old days, i can’t replay this game and feel the same along with many other games so that’s why i treasure these games so much because they made me feel great as a kid i have so many great memories that i can’t replicate now games aren’t the same anymore, i loved the arkham series but City will always be my favourite.
My favorite moment was the Scarecrow fear toxin fake-out as you decent into the depths below the subway system.
7:16 you can see Batman judging his spacing and inch back in preparation of Grundy's punch.
9:40 I’m pretty sure that both Joker and Clayface Joker are there, and the mirror is a fake. Clayface Joker is just perfectly mimicking real Joker.
1:25 that would imply Gotham was great in the first place😁
I will be honest, that's the only one of the series that I played (because I haven't had the opportunity to play the others) so I'm really close to that one
Most people favorite Batman movie/game/episode will almost always be "the one that had The Joker in it".
It’s not a mirror, it’s glass.
He added two wins to Ra's dying at 11:56
This had the best plot twist in the series (second is Black Mask being Joker in Origins).
First Arkham game I ever played. Still remember playing it all night in middle school.
12:14 - BAY-zil Karlow. He's not an American herb.
Bazil is the name. Like Basil Faulty, the John Cleese character that owned a hotel.
I think for the joker mirror thing clay face made him self look sick for batman to see but quickly changed when turning for a cool reveal (in character for the joker to ask him to to this or for clay face to improvise it)
I love your positivity keep it going
Jesus I never knew Grey voices Selena, guess thats why I love her voice so much
I just finished rewatching your Origins and Asylum video earlier today and was wondering when you would upload the City video.
Also it was the first Arkham game I played because i was a little kid who did not know back then that this was a sequel, so maybe nostalgia also plays a big part in me loving it so much
Great video, eagerly waiting for the one on Arkham Knight now! :)
The Joker's last laugh sounds kinda distorted.
One of the things you missed is that in the subtitles for Two-Face, they change who says the line depending on which of his personalities is speaking
Gotta stop Strange
But first! Gotta Find an antidote to Joker's disease
But first! Gotta find Mr. Freeze and have him make an antidote
But first! Gotta fight Penguin and rescue Freeze
But first! Gotta destroy his jammers to access the museum
etc, etc...
Hey I really enjoyed the video I'm glad to see a fresh new perspective! Keep up the good work
your outro speech here honestly made me tear up a bit. pls keep doing what you do
I always thought there is no mirror at all. Joker and Clayface were waiting for Batman mirroring eachother and Joker ditches as soon as Clayface starts the fight
Now there’s just Knight.
Although I’m waiting for Persona 5 Royal
That one’ll take AT LEAST 3 videos
I know right, but I'd love to see it
The thing I've noticed is when you get into these boss battles with much bigger blokes batman always needs to use something other then his fists to defeat them like Solomon Grundy you need to destroy the generator or power crate bane in arkham asylum you need to let him run into a wall to defeat him the titan monsters you need to control them to beat each other up then finish the job himself
We need more people like this, ones that can cherish somethings strength rather than condosend on its weaknesses
