I had a neighbor who was sentenced to 5 years in prison for robbing convenience stores in San Francisco. He was a heroin addict so every time he got paroled he would test positive. Because he violated parole he would automatically have to do a year in prison. This happened several times. He finally entered a methadone treatment program and he hasn’t been back to prison.

At the same time they did take a life or lives...those victims dont get a second chance. Dude in the white hat took more than one life and he's getting a second chance what about the lives he took...it's one thing to give a second chance to petty crimes but murders. idk, should be mandatory at least 30 years.just a thought think about the victims not the people who did wrong and killed.
Hearing them share their stories was powerful makes me think how good I got it. Freedom is a precious thing yet anger is so destructive. I am at a point where I am able to understand how anger motivates us in the worst way.
Anger or uncontrollable impulses… that may fuck up your life, because there’s no going back. And you’re faced with a complete new life and perspective of what your life is going to be, just because of that impulse.

This made me cry because after doing 8 years I had a moment in an exercise yard where I thought to myself is this all their is to life doing drugs and going to prison. So I went to AA and found a way out. I got out 1984 went to rehab got a job ended up meeting my wife getting married and having 2 boys that was 36 years ago now I'm so grateful I found hope and in process of that I worked 20 years at home depot bought a house and a couple new cars played baseball for 17 years and lived my dreams God is good! I would have gotten 15 years to life if I had continued. I'm 61 years old now with a 6 year old grand daughter. I lost my oldest to a heroin overdose and my youngest is in prison but my example gives him hope that he can turn it around and find a live worth living in AA. Thank you CDC for saving my life long enough to find the truth and stick and stay!
Sad man, these dudes don't realize their potential at a young age because they dont have the proper guidance as a kid to stir them in that right direction.
That's the problem with the majority incarcerated broken homes, foster care, physical/sexual/emotional abuse, growing up with addicted parents, no stability.

I remember when I got locked up for a couple weeks.. the inmates kept telling me to change my ways before i ended up in a situation I didn’t want to be in. They were truly really good people.
The worse is precisely get locked y for a minor offence and a short sentence, but end up deeper involved in crime life. And it becomes a never ending process… Education programs in prison are very important.

Cool Story Bro doesn’t reading and gathering knowledge make you smart? Some of these men are rehabilitated I know some of the ones in this very video. Did you know that 50% of California inmates will be back in prison in 3 years while 80% of them will be back in 5, while the percentage of lifers that ever come back to prison is less than 1%? A human brain isn’t fully developed until age 25. A child under the age of 25 that does something wrong Isn’t the same person as the 45-65 year old person they have become in prison. No not all of them are rehabilitated but the Patton college in San Quentin has 350 students at all times with a one year waiting list to get in. Stop being so closed minded and judgmental

My boyfriend of 8 years was murdered on March 2nd 2018 by two 17 year olds. They only got 12 years for first degree murder and armed robbery.im sorry but at 17 you know killing someone is wrong. I have to deal with the hurt and greif And PTSD every day. My child no longer has a father and everyday is nothing but pain. These guys do not know how much damage they have done to the families and people who loved the person they killed. When you kill someone it's forever! They can still talk to their family me or my daughter don't have that option anymore cuz the little punks decided to play God and killed my boyfriend just because they wanted his tax money we were drawing out the bank and they were right behind us! So thank you very much for destroying me and my daughter's life!

My late brother in law(god rest his soul) did 7 years here. He did great when he got out of prison. Came back out, took care of my sister and his kids. Not every in prisoner is bad. They just made bad choices. Some do need a second chance. But, most do belong in there
Yes it is tough especially for mother's. My son was just sent to prison for the first for a probation violation because he doesn't like to follow the rules. Before going to prison seaside, can police broke my son's leg when he was drunk. As soon as he is released he is leaving California permanently. Fuck the police and court system in California!

I spent 3 years at San Quentin from 2013-2016 and I know some of the men in this video. Most of these guys have been in prison for a couple decades and many of them (not all) are rehabilitated. In fact, the California prison system has a recidivism rate of 80% in 5 years; while lifers that get a 2nd chance, do not squander that 2nd chance, with their recidivism rate being at 1%. Many of these guys suuuuuuuuuper regret what they’ve done and some even have remorse for their victim. I also know a guy that is serving time there for robbing banks, armed with nothing other than a paper bag with marker on it saying, I have a bomb, put the money in the bag. He is serving 50 to life
I met a guy who told me he did 15 years I never looked down on him for being a former inmate i only respected and encouraged him and he betrayed me but now I'm kicking myself for believing he was a changed man but I'll still pray for him and keep it moving.
Sometime they changed their life for good look at our buju we still love him even more now .is not everyone go to prison or bad people or killer prison was made for black men especially in a American society in California u have 33 prison and we have 50 state u do the math and everyone of them full.

Dude these dudes had no real opportunity in life at all. I understand why you feel that way. But can you imagine, not having a father figure or anybody to stir you in a good direction of life? Nost people have a dad or a mom, or a brotger to show them a certain way of life and they follow that. These dudes were influenced by the wrong ways of life, and tgey were not allowed to see the potential they held with in themselves.
I'm a success story. I did a decade plus when i was 16. I was in SQ when SQ was war zone. Now it's a retirement home for lifers and snitches. I'm a union electrician in San Francisco for 2 plus decades and never look back. Truth. U don't need someone to give u a chance. First u give yourself a chance. Work hard and someone will give u a chance. Don't believe the hype. I had seen too many fail stories. Maybe 2 out of 10 really wants to change but sadly they will probably never get out except for toe tag parole. Prison now days is just an warehouse. U get a number and wait till your parole day.
If there is a question you could ask them - something you could say to have them take responsibility and begin their work on themselves? I get lots of defense mechanisms are in place but ideas of what helps to motivate them to change.
pgdog888 sq is pc since 2018 because they’re reintegrating. H-Unit isn’t old men it’s people with less than 10 years to serve. They are letting out a lot of people now because the federal courts have placed a cap of around 130,000 inmates so many things are changing. Instead of a lifer proving to the board that you aren’t a threat, now the criteria is that they must prove that you are a threat. The creative writing lady has told me of 3-4 people that are getting out soon, just from a small 2 dozen person class. I also seen several people from the class that are on social media now.
@@NorCal-Killa H unit is for level 2. New commitment with 4 or less years. Say u got 10 years from the jump. U automatically leval 3. U not staying in SQ or H unit unless your points drop due to u serve some times already. Point system. 4 point for each year. Then could add or subtract points if u married or not. Finished high school. Volient crime or not. First timer or not. 16 points and under. Level 1 means u can do your time outside the fence. 30 points and under. Level 2. Dormitories like H unit. 45 points and under. Level 3 behind the wall and cells. 45 and up u going to level 4. 180 or 360 cell blocks. SQ is cub cake now. Lots of lifer that had done over decades and stitches.
pgdog888 bro I got 11 years and was level 2. They changed the point system in 2012 it’s 60 points to be level 4 now and 36 points is level 3. I didn’t go to SQ right away though. And it is 10 years or less for H unit and nobody is on the top bunks anymore everyone uses top bunks for tv antennas. In any event SQ became pc in 2018 as they’re attempting to reintegrate
I did 12 hours in a holding cell, for disorderly conduct. Until I was able able to get out on a signature bond. During my time there I learned a lot about myself, most importantly...jail is not for me, longest 12 hours of my life🤣🤣🤣

This is actually a wonderful docu showing their lives from a positive kind side instead of the many focusing on the violence etc. Letting and belighting these processes shine and show a truly human side with human values about the whole ordeal. I'm also proud of the educators that are helping to change the lives of the prisoners. Education is the key. The prisons need to get programs like this to give hope to those who think they can't change.
A free education. Awesome. But there's no value in it. Totally useless if you can't apply it. If you're looking at these guys owning their crimes. That's not education. One day taking to my son to lunch we were walking near the restaraunt few feet away and my son waves at one of them mother fuckers so he stops and gets out telling my son we've been looking for someone wearing the same colored shoes as you. Then proceeds to ask his name and my son had a warrant for flicking an Ash out the window not the cigarette so they take him to jail. Seaside and Santa Clara pd are a huge gang of terrible cops. I never care when people kill cops fuck them all!!!!!!!!!!!!

God I would love to be able to afford to just go from prison to prison across the country to sit & talk with these men, young & old, who are bettering themselves behind bars because they are hugely inspirational to me & I know I could learn so much from them! Just watching these shows does something for me, so I know being able to sit with them & have emotional conversations in person would be incredibly fulfilling!! God bless everyone across the 🌎 !

I didn't have a dad in my life i turned out just fine... wait, that's right. I ended up in prison to. I see the theme here. Men grow from their mistakes. My mistake does not define me, but i did grow from it. I wish the very best for these people and believe that most will become great men from their mistakes.

That was completely positive man. I did 18 years on a 25 year bid in North Carolina. But I started out at 16 years old. Now I'm 57 but back in those days there wasn't a whole lot offered to inmates in N. C. Shitty place to be down.
I got out of San Quentin in January. Having trouble finding work and motivation. I never want to go back. You think once you are free, everything will be great again, but real life has its own struggles. Thanks for the video

If you're in prison for the second time, it's because you want to be there. Most repeat offenders probably fail to realize that on a conscious level, but they most likely want to be in prison.
Huge Respect to all these guys, i was sentenced to 15 years for bank robberies at age 19, served over 13 years in maximum institutions, now been free 15 years now, thriving with a beautiful wife, kids and amazing career. It is never to late to change!

I did two days, and it felt like forever, so I made a plan to kill time, I was lifting weights taking long showers, reading books, playing spades, talking on the phone, and when I looked up at the clock only an hour had gone by!
I had nothing in life. My parents were drunks. I hated school. In fact I hated everything. But here I was trying to survive at low level jobs. With no end in sight. I approached a carpenter that I always saw drive by. I asked him if he would help me I would help him. He was an older guy. He said I can't afford the hire someone. I said I can't afford to live as it is without knowing how to live. You teach me how to survive and I'll work for food and water. I worked with this guy for five years until he passed. Today I'm still working building beautiful home and much more. You have to want it. Teenage years are so mixed up. It not about what your friends are doing. It's about what you are doing. Not so long ago this was easy for us to learn. Because we had to pull our weight as kids. Work the farm. Or cut wood to heat the house. Today everything is given to us. We are shut out of everyday experiences. Given a game to play in our room. Come out only to eat. Crazy stuff. I'm sixty five. And I'm truly disappointed in today's generation. So heartbreaking.
Some cons want to be better; leave the old way of living, and some don't. I was one that wanted to change. It was hard getting out, most people are afraid of you so it's very difficult to get a leg up. But GOD is good and I got a chance to prove myself. I've been out over 30 years now. I pay my way and remain respectful and kind to all people. I also give time to give to less fortunate people...
As a juvenile I was a 3 time convicted felon with 17 misdemeanors. I spend a large portion of my teenage yrs in juvie! In the state of georgia your considered a adult at 17 and your juvenile record is concealed from the public. I knew I had a 2nd chance at life. I was so tired of seeing my family come see me locked up and watching them cry when visitation was over and then getting stripped butt naked and squatting and coughing like my damn mother would be sneaking contraband in to me yeah right? McDonald's probably wouldn't have hired me with my record. And I somehow landed the prettiest girl in school. I got my mind right and changed my ways. I had to drop out and get my ged because I missed so much school I was like 16 in the 8th grade. I went on to college well a 2yr tech school got a degree and was a home owner by the age of 21. Life is great I'm 35yrs old and have not caught a single charge as a adult. One things for certain if I can change anyone can change. I was a stonecold kid I had balls bigger than 95% of most grown men and feared no human. I had no empathy for anyone except animals I loved animals for some reason maybe because they didn't judge you they just loved you. I see yougsters these days running the streets and I just want to save them but they can't be reached. All the gang stuff these days is fake for the most part and just a fashion statement. But some kids will do stupid things to try and bring it to reality or validate it. I want to talk to the youth so bad. Just dont know how to go about getting the approval from the juvenile detention centers? Any pointers? I'd greatly appreciate it!

good question! But me personally i been living in and out of the system. I'm 33 yrs old and i been spending my time in jail, prison or the streets. I know i have done bad decisions. So i have been a honest man to get What I had coming with the law. The Honest truth from my experiences that some of us have only felt life behind walls an We get used to it and become institutionalized that we don't know a straight line lifestyle. Till this day i catch myself spitting in the toilet, and pissing sitting down so it won't splash on the floor or any place in the restroom. Sorry for going off track but to answer ur question i would be mad but also with my mentality i would appreciate if the person who killed my loved one too ask and pray to the higher power that he don't get out or i go in. My son's been in trouble since the age of 11. He went to jail five months ago. No one was killed, no one was really hurt, but if he did hurt or kill someone I would still love him, and visit and be there for him. He's not a bad person he just makes stupid decisions. Nothing he could do would ever make me stop loving him, but just because I love him doesn't mean I love what he does. Who else will be there for him if I won't? It's just like love the player hate the game. He's my son I could never stop loving him.
Amamos..YES I would still feel the same way...and yes, I would still volunteer to help them....We are all brothers and sisters in this world, together we must help those that need help....and Yes, my father was murdered......Staying mad about it will never solve the problem...putting out the effort to help change people, is the best way to deal with your anger....

Very good question! Growing up in LA, on the west northern side of the city, we had GR8 schools with teachers willing to teach us, these schools, years later are still great today! What happened: FORCE BUSING! I went from a teacher helping me with a practical education to an instructor in the San Fernando Valley giving an hour long speech as to why we were not supose to be there and every other vile prejudice you can imagine! I had to teach myself in prison! There, for a criminal action, based on FALSE EVIDENCE, that......NEVER TOOK PLACE!!!!!!!!!! NEVER TAKEN PLACE!

Example: Despite Barack Obama doing a fairly decent job as POTUS, he sacrificed the African American Community for the causes of the Upper Middle Class White America: Gay Rights, the Upper Middle Class this, the Upper Middle Class that.... On the streets, unless you have a support system, many people don't have the bare resources to attend college on the streets. Also, unfortunately, (this part is crazo), on the streets, especially in many community colleges, you have a lot of college instructors that really can careless rather a srudent learns are not. They set-up (on the streets) a pressured curriculum where a student must jump through so many hoops at one time and many college instructors on the streets do treat students by their own filters of prejudice, racial bias and their understanding of politics. Many prisons have the fortune of attracting teachers/instructors that really want to teach and will actually go over a concept with an inmate student individually. Many prison teachers focus on an inmates learning process and are not necessarily focused on students making assignment quotas. Many prison instructors are actually professionals in a certain trade or skill and not professional teachers which in a lot of cases makes a huge difference. Not all but that has been my experience.

You can do it! You can become all the things you want to be...it will be hard it will be a struggle..but I made it..and I'll never go back. I had a neighbor who was sentenced to 5 years in prison for robbing convenience stores in San Francisco. He was a heroin addict so every time he got paroled he would test positive. Because he violated parole he would automatically have to do a year in prison. This happened several times. He finally entered a methadone treatment program and he hasn’t been back to prison.

This made me cry because after doing 8 years I had a moment in an exercise yard where I thought to myself is this all their is to life doing drugs and going to prison. So I went to AA and found a way out. I got out 1984 went to rehab got a job ended up meeting my wife getting married and having 2 boys that was 36 years ago now I'm so grateful I found hope and in process of that I worked 20 years at home depot bought a house and a couple new cars played baseball for 17 years and lived my dreams God is good! I would have gotten 15 years to life if I had continued. I'm 61 years old now with a 6 year old grand daughter. I lost my oldest to a heroin overdose and my youngest is in prison but my example gives him hope that he can turn it around and find a live worth living in AA. Thank you CDC for saving my life long enough to find the truth and stick and stay!

I remember when I got locked up for a couple weeks.. the inmates kept telling me to change my ways before i ended up in a situation I didn’t want to be in. They were truly really good people.
That's not surprising. Many, not most, are.
The worse is precisely get locked y for a minor offence and a short sentence, but end up deeper involved in crime life. And it becomes a never ending process… Education programs in prison are very important.

Cool Story Bro doesn’t reading and gathering knowledge make you smart? Some of these men are rehabilitated I know some of the ones in this very video. Did you know that 50% of California inmates will be back in prison in 3 years while 80% of them will be back in 5, while the percentage of lifers that ever come back to prison is less than 1%? A human brain isn’t fully developed until age 25. A child under the age of 25 that does something wrong Isn’t the same person as the 45-65 year old person they have become in prison. No not all of them are rehabilitated but the Patton college in San Quentin has 350 students at all times with a one year waiting list to get in. Stop being so closed minded and judgmental

My boyfriend of 8 years was murdered on March 2nd 2018 by two 17 year olds. They only got 12 years for first degree murder and armed robbery.im sorry but at 17 you know killing someone is wrong. These guys do not know how much damage they have done to the families and people who loved the person they killed. When you kill someone it's forever! They can still talk to their family me or my daughter don't have that option anymore cuz the little punks decided to play God and killed my boyfriend just because they wanted his tax money we were drawing out the bank and they were right behind us! So thank you very much for destroying me and my daughter's life!

My late brother in law(god rest his soul) did 7 years here. He did great when he got out of prison. Came back out, took care of my sister and his kids.
Not every in prisoner is bad. They just made bad choices. Some do need a second chance. But, most do belong in there

Yes it is tough especially for mother's. My son was just sent to prison for the first for a probation violation because he doesn't like to follow the rules. Before going to prison seaside, can police broke my son's leg when he was drunk. As soon as he is released he is leaving California permanently. Fuck the police and court system in California!

I spent 3 years at San Quentin from 2013-2016 and I know some of the men in this video. Most of these guys have been in prison for a couple decades and many of them (not all) are rehabilitated. In fact, the California prison system has a recidivism rate of 80% in 5 years; while lifers that get a 2nd chance, do not squander that 2nd chance, with their recidivism rate being at 1%. Many of these guys suuuuuuuuuper regret what they’ve done and some even have remorse for their victim. I also know a guy that is serving time there for robbing banks, armed with nothing other than a paper bag with marker on it saying, I have a bomb, put the money in the bag. He is serving 50 to life

I met a guy who told me he did 15 years I never looked down on him for being a former inmate i only respected and encouraged him and he betrayed me but now I'm kicking myself for believing he was a changed man but I'll still pray for him and keep it moving.

I understand why you feel that way. But can you imagine, not having a father figure or anybody to stir you in a good direction of life? Nost people have a dad or a mom, or a brotger to show them a certain way of life and they follow that. I'm a success story. I did a decade plus when i was 16. I was in SQ when SQ was war zone. Now it's a retirement home for lifers and snitches. I'm a union electrician in San Francisco for 2 plus decades and never look back. Truth. U don't need someone to give u a chance. First u give yourself a chance. Work hard and someone will give u a chance. Don't believe the hype. I had seen too many fail stories. Maybe 2 out of 10 really wants to change but sadly they will probably never get out except for toe tag parole. Prison now days is just an warehouse. U get a number and wait till your parole day.
If there is a question you could ask them - something you could say to have them take responsibility and begin their work on themselves? I get lots of defense mechanisms are in place but ideas of what helps to motivate them to change.

pgdog888 sq is pc since 2018 because they’re reintegrating. H-Unit isn’t old men it’s people with less than 10 years to serve. They are letting out a lot of people now because the federal courts have placed a cap of around 130,000 inmates so many things are changing. Instead of a lifer proving to the board that you aren’t a threat, now the criteria is that they must prove that you are a threat. The creative writing lady has told me of 3-4 people that are getting out soon, just from a small 2 dozen person class. I also seen several people from the class that are on social media now.
@@NorCal-Killa H unit is for level 2. New commitment with 4 or less years. Say u got 10 years from the jump. U automatically leval 3. U not staying in SQ or H unit unless your points drop due to u serve some times already.
Point system. 4 point for each year. Then could add or subtract points if u married or not. Finished high school. Volient crime or not. First timer or not. 16 points and under. Level 1 means u can do your time outside the fence. 30 points and under. Level 2. Dormitories like H unit. 45 points and under. Level 3 behind the wall and cells. 45 and up u going to level 4. 180 or 360 cell blocks. SQ is cub cake now. Lots of lifer that had done over decades and stitches.
pgdog888 bro I got 11 years and was level 2. They changed the point system in 2012 it’s 60 points to be level 4 now and 36 points is level 3. I didn’t go to SQ right away though. And it is 10 years or less for H unit and nobody is on the top bunks anymore everyone uses top bunks for tv antennas. In any event SQ became pc in 2018 as they’re attempting to reintegrate
I did 12 hours in a holding cell, for disorderly conduct. Until I was able able to get out on a signature bond. During my time there I learned a lot about myself, most importantly...jail is not for me, longest 12 hours of my life🤣🤣🤣

Huge Respect to all these guys, i was sentenced to 15 years for bank robberies at age 19, served over 13 years in maximum institutions, now been free 15 years now, thriving with a beautiful wife, kids and amazing career. It is never to late to change!
What was prison like, I heard of a few stories from my dad who went to prison, he said it was nothing like the movies, and it was really depressing and sad

I did two days, and it felt like forever, so I made a plan to kill time, I was lifting weights taking long showers, reading books, playing spades, talking on the phone, and when I looked up at the clock only an hour had gone by!

I had nothing in life. My parents were drunks. I hated school. In fact I hated everything. But here I was trying to survive at low level jobs. With no end in sight. I approached a carpenter that I always saw drive by. I asked him if he would help me I would help him. He was an older guy. He said I can't afford the hire someone. I said I can't afford to live as it is without knowing how to live. You teach me how to survive and I'll work for food and water. I worked with this guy for five years until he passed. Today I'm still working building beautiful home and much more. You have to want it. Teenage years are so mixed up. It not about what your friends are doing. It's about what you are doing. Not so long ago this was easy for us to learn. Because we had to pull our weight as kids. Work the farm. Or cut wood to heat the house. Today everything is given to us. We are shut out of everyday experiences. Given a game to play in our room. Come out only to eat. Crazy stuff. I'm sixty five. And I'm truly disappointed in today's generation. So heartbreaking.
After watching these you feel bad for the victims of course but these inmates never had a chance .
Some cons want to be better; leave the old way of living, and some don't. I was one that wanted to change. It was hard getting out, most people are afraid of you so it's very difficult to get a leg up. But GOD is good and I got a chance to prove myself. I've been out over 30 years now. I pay my way and remain respectful and kind to all people. I also give time to give to less fortunate people...

As a juvenile I was a 3 time convicted felon with 17 misdemeanors. I spend a large portion of my teenage yrs in juvie! In the state of georgia your considered a adult at 17 and your juvenile record is concealed from the public. I knew I had a 2nd chance at life. I was so tired of seeing my family come see me locked up and watching them cry when visitation was over and then getting stripped butt naked and squatting and coughing like my damn mother would be sneaking contraband in to me yeah right? McDonald's probably wouldn't have hired me with my record. And I somehow landed the prettiest girl in school. I got my mind right and changed my ways. I had to drop out and get my ged because I missed so much school I was like 16 in the 8th grade. I went on to college well a 2yr tech school got a degree and was a home owner by the age of 21. Life is great I'm 35yrs old and have not caught a single charge as a adult. One things for certain if I can change anyone can change. I was a stonecold kid I had balls bigger than 95% of most grown men and feared no human. I had no empathy for anyone except animals I loved animals for some reason maybe because they didn't judge you they just loved you. I see yougsters these days running the streets and I just want to save them but they can't be reached. All the gang stuff these days is fake for the most part and just a fashion statement. But some kids will do stupid things to try and bring it to reality or validate it. I want to talk to the youth so bad. Just dont know how to go about getting the approval from the juvenile detention centers? Any pointers? I'd greatly appreciate it!

good question! But me personally i been living in and out of the system. I'm 33 yrs old and i been spending my time in jail, prison or the streets. I know i have done bad decisions. So i have been a honest man to get What I had coming with the law. The Honest truth from my experiences that some of us have only felt life behind walls an We get used to it and become institutionalized that we don't know a straight line lifestyle. Till this day i catch myself spitting in the toilet, and pissing sitting down so it won't splash on the floor or any place in the restroom. Sorry for going off track but to answer ur question i would be mad but also with my mentality i would appreciate if the person who killed my loved one too ask and pray to the higher power that he don't get out or i go in. My son's been in trouble since the age of 11.
He went to jail five months ago. No one was killed, no one was really hurt, but if he did hurt or kill someone I would still love him, and visit and be there for him. He's not a bad person he just makes stupid decisions.
Nothing he could do would ever make me stop loving him, but just because I love him doesn't mean I love what he does. Who else will be there for him if I won't? It's just like love the player hate the game. He's my son I could never stop loving him.
Amamos..YES I would still feel the same way...and yes, I would still volunteer to help them....We are all brothers and sisters in this world, together we must help those that need help....and Yes, my father was murdered......Staying mad about it will never solve the problem...putting out the effort to help change people, is the best way to deal with your anger....

tiffinie, yes I've heard that too. Not only that, but people that are very sick and have no insurance and can't afford treatments. That's just awful. But hearing these guys gives me hope that some have really explored and digested what they did and want to work to help in some way, any way.

How come those inmates only get educated when they're sentence to prison but when they're on the outside all they do is crime.

Growing up in LA, on the west northern side of the city, we had GR8 schools with teachers willing to teach us, these schools, years later are still great today!

I went from a teacher helping me with a practical education to an instructor in the San Fernando Valley giving an hour long speech as to why we were not supose to be there and every other vile prejudice you can imagine!
I had to teach myself in prison!

Because they are not confined to a cell the size of a small bathroom when on the streets.
On the streets, unless you have a support system, many people don't have the bare resources to attend college on the streets.
Also, unfortunately, (this part is crazo), on the streets, especially in many community colleges, you have a lot of college instructors that really can careless rather a srudent learns are not. They set-up (on the streets) a pressured curriculum where a student must jump through so many hoops at one time and many college instructors on the streets do treat students by their own filters of prejudice, racial bias and their understanding of politics.
Many prisons have the fortune of attracting teachers/instructors that really want to teach and will actually go over a concept with an inmate student individually. Many prison teachers focus on an inmates learning process and are not necessarily focused on students making assignment quotas. Many prison instructors are actually professionals in a certain trade or skill and not professional teachers which in a lot of cases makes a huge difference.
Not all but that has been my experience.

Yeah man i was at San Quentin (North Block) between 2010 until i got paroled 2018 i know most of this inmate like me got paroled also.Im really glad to see this film bring back my memory...
