Hello Scruffy, Pleased to meet you kind sir. Thank you for taking time to share your video of you scouting around Japan on doing some fine Neo-Geo hunting. I've been playing Neo-Geo for 32 years. The first game that I ever played for it was Magician Lord on a new MVS unit at a local Dary Queen in Paramus, NJ. Since then, I've been a buff since. I posted this excellent video up on The Neo-Geo thread on the forums over on the AtariAge site for others to take notice and be amazed by this just as much as I am. This will be a real treat to enjoy on Saturday night for sure. 8^) Thank you again Scruffy. Glad to see you in action and looking forward on seeing more from you soon bro. 8^) Anthony...
Wow has neo geo really been out that long😆 Sounds like you are a huge neogeo fan. I really appreciate you sharing this video it really helps out. Sorry my knowledge is very little on the matter. Id like to get an aes some day even if i cannot afford many games id still like to check it out hopefully soon. Thanks again. Any game suggestions for a scruffylookin nerfherder?
Thank you very much for this video. This is my favorite video of yours. I love Neo Geo & have a AES console & 3 consolized MVS consoles & a MVS Arcade. Anything Neo Geo related I love. Some of the AES games get insanely expensive, that’s why I love the MVS versions of the games. Same exact game as the AES version, but for the mvs arcade machine, at a fraction of the cost.
Glad you enjoyed it! Wow you sound like a serious NEO GEO fan. Sounds like i must get me an MVS for sure! Is there a shooter out there that gives you a lot of bang for you buck? If so let me know what it is
@@ScruffyLookinRGB One of my favorites is Pulstar. My favorite are fighting games, but Pulstar is one of my favorite shooters. If bought on the AES it would cost $4K or more for a CIB. But you can get it for MVS sometimes for $150-$200. I’ve seen it go for $300 or $400 for MVS, but if you look around enough it can be bought for $150. Another great example on price differences of AES VS MVS.
Yeah bro. they really offer plenty in the community. Hahaha. I wish I was one of the cool kids. But you see in just about very comment section for Neo-Geo and SNK related material on TH-cam for sure. Interestingly, I live in New York City. In the Tri-State area, the Neo-Geo was quite available to find . It was mainly in small family orientated game stores and at Toys R Us branches in affluent neighborhoods behind glass cases where I visited growing up. To many, it was a mystical console. But where I live, it was seen around like a Nintendo and Sega console would be. Anthony..
Thank you for the reply, and your welcome Scuffy. 8^) Yes, that's right bro. Been playing Neo-Geo since I was 7 years old in 1990. To me, the Neo-Geo AES home console is the crowning achievement in my collection. Sadly, as a boy just relying on a weekly allowance from home wasn't going to be enough for me to purchase an AES unit and maintain a sizable library of games. Also, growing up in a middle-class family in which the income was on a strict budget wasn't going to be possible. So the MVS unit in arcades inserting quarters/tokens was my only option. Sure, I can gladly make a list of Neo-Geo titles for you Scuffy. What genre of game do you enjoy playing? I see RetroMoments and Wicked Gamer & Collector posted on your video. These two gentlemen know me in the Neo-Geo scene and I comment on there videos as well. Anthony..
Wow man that is awesome you got to experience all thoese games back then the talk of the system when i was a school kid was like the ultimate game system but unfortunately never got to see one back then. 😕 Retromoments ane wicked game collector are good people sounds like are one of the cool kids 😎 i hope to eventually to find a good deal on one that i can refurbish. Id probably have to get a flash cart and what ever games are reasonably priced. Im sure your all about the og hardware but in case you do have a flash cart what are your thoughts on it?
Thanks god I got most of the relevant expensive titles for NG AES already back when they were affordable... Was gonna look for some lower level AES titles but even those games are treated like solid gold now....
Awesome video, man! Thanks for the update. I can definitely see an increase in prices for the AES games, at least the more rare ones. The cheaper ones seem to be the same, which is a good thing because Art Of Fighting 2 and Samurai Showdown are still excellent games for the system :)
Thanks man glad you enjoyed it! I know right!? the more expensive games for pretty much every console suddenly jumped up in price like 5 months ago. Pretty upsetting but hope things settle down in the future. Thats good to hear art of fighting 2 and samurai showdown are good titles
@@Charlie-Cat. Hey Anthony! Absolutely, I'm definitely coming back to Japan. That's the plan. So there will be a lot of videos then. I'm aiming for wintertime, but we'll see. Things are complicated when traveling so far. Thanks for sticking around.
@@RetroMoments Super Potato and Neo Geo AES are two things that don't mix well nowadays.... they used to be great for AES back in the day however... I remember buying my AoF3 there for a mere 7000 yen xD
Thanks a lot SLRGB I loved it. Neo Geo is not your erea of expertise yet. Though I really appreciated all the efforts and your dedication on this difficult topic in this video. Would be great to have a follow up video on Xmas to see a price evolution if any.
Ha ha Glad you enjoyed it! I may have to do more neo geo episodes in the near future. If you missed my 3000 subscriber episode please check it out here th-cam.com/video/swJyTY6x78Y/w-d-xo.html especially at the 38:51 time mark. Then get in touch with me on social media direct message if possible.
@Scruffy Lookin RGB just watch out for the bootlegs and in case you wanna buy them don't pay too much. Some MVS carts are starting getting a bit pricey lately too....
I have that family king joystick, there is a first and second player one also. The super twin file is like a memory device for a certain game, im still trying to figure out exactly what its for.
Do you? The box looks awesome I need a bigger home. The super twin file is pretty cool lookin very compact. May have to investigate that device further.
@@ScruffyLookinRGB Well, i would like to think that's expensive pretty much all around the world. Even for a place like Japan, where i thought it would be cheaper. But, yes, even in Canada $500cad + is expensive. But, i guess it is to be expected. You're talking about getting a new xbox system for that kinda price.
AES has been a pricey hobby for years now, it's just getting worse with time. Magical Drop 2 is fantastic, but not at that price when you can get the Saturn version for far, far cheaper, the SFC version is great too, but coming up in price.
As pricey as the Neo-Geo was, it was the genuine article. So many overpriced systems that came and left. Maybe a handful of good games, couldn't deliver on all its commercial hype. The Neo-Geo was supported for quite a long time, with 2d games that still look really good.

Neogeo games still crazy expensive but so much fun to watch and see the prices and such.
Agreed probably the one console i know the least about. Carts are massive 😳
Love that place. It’s a little expensive there but my kids and I stop by there on our way to other retro shops. Great video!!!!
Awesome! Thank you! I enjoy it, too. wish I was rich, though really cool games here
Those trader console prices... Glue sniffing at it's best. 😆👃❄

It's crazy to see how cheap those Neo Geo games are compared to how much sellers want for them on eBay.
