    Many people are moving to Boise ...because they heard that you can openly carry firearms in Boise .and the police leave you alone... The Rolling Stones named an album after the greenbelt in boise "GOAT HEAD SOUP"

    So true about the flies! From my 40 plus years living here in Boise, for me the biggest con is winter inversions. Days and days of fog and gray. The ones we had in the 90's were really bad.

    I moved here two years ago. I live in Middleton. I found the cons list interesting. I have had no issues with flies and mosquitoes and I am one street away on three sides from large fields. There is also many cow’s around here-no problem.
    Still have my All Season tires.
    I have purchased a pair of flannel lined pants but the coats that I had in SoCal 11:57 the night life here is non existent but that was never my scene anyway.
    I did buy a small snowblower and have used it three times. Didn’t need to but I figured I bought it so use it.

    One additional con with weather. It's really dry and I'm not sure if their water is adding to the dryness. I come out for a few days every month or so, and my hands dry up so fast and start getting white flakes and getting red splotches. Invest in a good hand cream when visiting!

      I have yet to be bitten by a fly. So your safe there.
      What questions can I answer specifically for you about medical care.
      In terms of stores, we have a lot of options. It really depends on where you live that will determine what is closet to you. Are there any stores your looking for specifically?
      Lots of great mechanics in town.
      Lots of plumbing in town. My friend works for a company that does a lot of work in the north end of boise where the pipes and sewer lines are all really old and need to be updated.

    I'm an Idaho Spud' & I grew up around here 🙃 . I'm an adrenaline junkie and I'm always looking for things fast enough to do something stupid and fun with, but I'm also a bicycle junkie and I agree, Goatheads suck and I hate them almost as much as I hate the red face and bald-faced paper wasps that we have around here. Now as far as goat heads and bicycles go I have a solution for you. Some of it comes down to the type of tires you use because you'll find some are truly better than others and more resistant to punctures and tears from rocks and things. My personal preference is to use "Specialized" Brand Tires w/ puncture proof for thorn resistant heavy-duty tubes, mr. Tuffy Tire liners and the green goo you referred to which is called Slime. If you use good tires especially the steel belted tires, mr. Tuffy Tire liners with half a bottle of slime and each of them you'll never have to worry about goateads again, or at least from getting a flat because of them . I was in Boise one day and I decided to take a shortcut down a Canal bank I hadn't been down in quite a long time off North Curtis Road and needless to say by the time I got off the Canal bank I had so many goat heads in my tires both front and back I literally couldn't see them there were so many goatheads stuck in them. I stopped, flipped my bike upside down, pulled out my pocket knife & got to work getting them outta my tires. About an hour later my tires were clear, still full of air & never went flat even after all that 😋 ..

    • @livinginidaho
      @livinginidaho  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s great. I was just filling some of my tires back up with slime this last week as the days have been getting a bit warmer. I’ll have to look into your suggestions in how to make my tires more resistant to punctures.
      Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching.

    • @idletime
      @idletime ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@livinginidaho it's all good 🙃 . Thorn resistant or puncture-proof tubes, mr. Tuffy Tire liners, and half a bottle of slime in each tube with a good set of tires is a recipe for never having to worry about goat heads or getting a flat from them again. I did that for so long I went through four or five pairs of tires and eventually wore the tubes out from chafing and finally had to replace them like 6 years later 😋

    It's not that the winters are cold here it's that if you're coming from a place say like California winter is long. Also in winter the sun doesn't come directly over you it comes kind of like a flat arch. So for me coming from California I have to actually drive back to California for a couple weeks or so to get away from the length of winter here.

    • @livinginidaho
      @livinginidaho  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it is nice to get a break in the winter time. My wife just took a trip to Arizona today with some friends to get away.
      The sun during the summer is directly over head and in the winter the sun dips down at 44 degrees it feels like. A bonus if you have a south facing house you’ll get tons of sunlight in the winter because the light can dip under your roof and get through the window. This warms the house up in the winter.

      I would agree, it’s cold here, the summers are hot, and it’s getting crowded in Ada county and the city is having to change things to accommodate. If you don’t believe in Idaho but instead want to change it to be like the place you came from (California), then reconsider your move. Thanks for your comment Linda.

    Interesting cons. We moved from Seattle to southern Illinois in 2018, I am looking to relocate, possibly to the Boise area because I love the four seasons. Down here we deal with extremely hot & humid weather from late Spring thru late September, I hate it. Those “goatheads” look similar to the spiky gumball trees that are common down south. Another reason why I hate it here is “tornado alley” has shifted through the years, it’s not only in Oklahoma and Kansas but further east now, Missouri, Illinois (central, southern), Kentucky…I hate the tornado watches/warnings, our little town took a direct hit from an F3 tornado in 2021. Coming from Seattle, I never experienced anything like this and I never want to ever again!! No tornadoes in Boise!!! LOL!!! 😂😂😂
    The winters are similar to Idaho winters so I can deal with that. I am just exploring my options, I know my daughter wants to move to Idaho, she’s tired of the humidity and threats of tornadoes too.

    • @livinginidaho
      @livinginidaho  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That’s a big move. I grew up in the Seattle area. Where did you live?
      The summers here in Boise can get hot just so you know, but humidity as you know isn’t something we deal with.
      I couldn’t image living somewhere where your threaten by tornadoes.

      Thanks, my dad lived on Queen Ann Hill in downtown Seattle, after I got out of the military I stayed with him, got hired by Boeing then moved in an apartment near him, which was good because if he got sick I was always nearby.
      My husband’s family live here in Illinois, we moved from WA state because my husband is seriously ill, he wanted to be near his family here and eventually be buried here, I will honor his wishes, of course. After he passes, my daughter and I want back west, we are NOT Midwesterners, we’re ready to bail.

    • @livinginidaho
      @livinginidaho  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your question. It's important to note that Boise, like many cities, has a range of perspectives. While there's a majority who respect and accept people of all orientations, you might also encounter individuals who hold different views. Overall, Boise is generally a safe city, but it's not exempt from occasional disagreements or tensions, as is the case in any community. Everyone's experience can vary, so it might be best to connect with local LGBTQ+ organizations or individuals who can provide a more personal perspective. Regardless of these differences, I believe that the majority of Boise residents value treating everyone with kindness and respect.

I dont hear anyone screaming during construction season on Fridays when they get thier check though.
