For many years I have charged them at 10% of AH rated value for 8 to 10 hours, and had good luck and batteries last for many years, use a rotary timer to shut the charger off
Question. One of my garage door batteries is rated 12v 2.2ah. I bought a 12v 2A charger, charged it for two hours but the voltage on the multimeter says 10.6V. Does this mean the battery is dead? Also after the charge, the battery temperature is warm.
What is the difference between a power supply, and a charger ? Are they the same thing? Some people say that the charger for a lithium ion battery in inside the pack itself as a BMS , battery management system.
@@diypotentials Hi. Thank you for your response. I didn't mean using the Jump Starter Packs...I mean using the 12v battery chargers for car batteries to charge these 12v SLA batteries.
Hello, I’m wondering if I bought the black battery in your video to put under my driver seat and connect wires to power a siren for the car would that work?
They should come pre-charged. But you can check their state of charge by charging them. The charger should show if they are charged or need to be charged. Lithium batteries are happy at around 30% to 80% state of charge. Avoid fully discharging or 100% fully charged…
For longest life, with either Lead Acid Sealed, or a Lithium Ion Batteries, charge slowly, 2 r 4 a. m. p. I use a 5 amp charger for a Interceptor 2 sealed jell 12 volt and 20 A H. N. B. 12200 NB12200
I use (2) of these batteries in series to power a three-wheel golf push cart. A round of golf normally lasts about 4 hours. Should I charge the batteries after each use? You also recommended not overcharging them. My charger has a red/green light to indicate when they are charged. With this setup how do I avoid/know when to turn it off to avoid overcharging?
When you use 3 12v batteries wired in series to make a 36v bank. Do you take it apart and charge each 12v battery separately? Or can you charge all of them together with a 36v charger?
What about the opposite? Can I connect my big 12V auto charger into parallel connections to 3 12V lead batteries ? So Red has a line going to each (+ )terminal. And a Black goes to each Black (-)terminal on each battery. Twist all 3 red together and all 3 black together. Then connect Red+ Black to charger. Simple
Nice tips thanks, My battery is Gel Valve Regulated and my charger is 12v -6amps is that ok for a 30ah battery? Do you also leave a battery like Lead Acid or any deep cycle ones unused for a certain period of time is it safe to stock or store a battery as a Reserve power bank if there will be power outages in our area? Thanks
It depends on the charger’s current output. You divide 18ah by the charging current rate of your charger. Say if your battery is completely depleted and your charger’s output currently is 2A, it would take about 9 hours. If the current is 3A, about 6 hours, and so on.
OK, Charging several 12V batteries, and I do not care what the manufacturers say. You must use a constant current, constant voltage charger on SLA, AGM, LIPO, or any other rechargeable battery. Why? This makes the battery last much longer that if you used a regular lead acid charger of any type. Between Amazon and eBay, you can find practically any voltage charger in existence. But you must find a constant current and constant voltage charger to maintain your battery for long past its warrantied lifetime. Don't be cheap on the charger! Remember, you get what you pay for, especially with Chinese made chargers. LiPo batteries have a problem, some Chinese make outlandish claims on their battery capacities, some by a factor of four! An 18650 battery from China rated at 9800 Mah, have been checked out at less than 2,000 Mah on the bench. The weight of the battery determines the amount of current it can supply. If a 9800 Mah Chinese battery weighs less than a Japanese battery rated at the same current level, the heavier battery wins! Read the fine print under the ad giving the specs on that battery that looks so very affordable. Chances are that battery is a lightweight fake. (My opinion, my experiences). Oh, it may work well enough in a flashlight, but not for as long as they claim. Those bright yellow or red batteries ("eye candy") from China just do not measure up to Japanese batteries or some South Korean batteries. Look at the weight (in grams) when battery shopping, or for what its worth, in Wal-Mart and buy the heavier battery in its class (including car and marine deep cycle batteries). Bring a fishing scale of up to 60lbs if you have one for the heavier batteries. If a store complains, walk away, they have something to hide. In batteries, weight has everything to tell about a battery.

@@diypotentialsi made a 2x 12v 18AH lead batteries in series.. would i require a 24v charger? also how many amps should i set my hota smart charger to charge this setup
Hello, assuming that the battery is still taking charge, it would depend on the battery capacity, and the charging current rate. You might have to charge it and time it to get an approximate time. Thanks!
You'll most likely need to jumpstart the charging process before the charger will recognize that it is even connected to a dead dead battery that needs charged and with that said most chargers won't even begin charging.
If the power supply has adjustable constant voltage and constant current modes, then yes you can. You can limit the maximum charging current this way and set the float voltage. Use a low Vf schottkey diode in series with the battery connection. It's a good idea to attend over the operation regularly since the cutoff is unregulated.
@@kylec410 im going to have to look up how to do that lol. do you put the diode on the positive side in line? or would that be between the battery posts? it would be just one battery so im not sure why im wiring in series
@@chrhadden Definitely not across the battery posts as that would be a conductive path from positive to negative that of a short circuit. In series with the batter positive is best, that would be the power supply positive to the anode of the diode and the cathode of the diode to the battery positive. The negative side of the battery can be connected directly to the negative of the power supply. You could have a diode in the negative in addition to the first one, but you would have two forward voltage drops in series with the battery meaning your power supply voltage would need to compensate for that.
