This song gets ahold of me a couple of times a year when I just listen over and over. So beautiful and sad. "Winding down behind closed doors, on all fours." Lord have mercy.

Astonishing harmonies. What an atmosphere. Music and lyrics without break in continuity. JT's musical Genius. Love him.♥️

That is hard to listen to. It seriously hurts. He's a strong man to have survived that and come out on top. Legend

Always loved the song though I didn't fancy the album where it was featured.
It helped many people open their eyes on true junkies: no more 'the beautiful and damned' rockstar image, yet the mellow sweet singer songwriter you wouldn't figure out as a junkie.
James was a junkie, Paul McCartney found him in London as a 20 year old boy and signed him for Apple just when James was deep into addiction.
It came back and forth so many times in his life, the long hiatus between 1981 and 1985 was one of the worst ever times in his life, he was on the brink of dying, really.

Too bad hard drugs ruined a lot of lives and relationships. Shame.

My Best Friend, My Water Brother, if you will, drank himself to death. His Grandfather, his Father and My Friend were all 38 when they passed away and all 3 from Alcohol. My Bud also had 2 Brothers that passed before him and a Sister who died a few days after she was born. Sad.

Living with an addict is a hard life
You want to help but it's out of your hands.and control. I know.
