I built an old transformable YF-25F Messiah a while back and it was a rickety mess, but this one has restored my faith. Partsformation is absolutely the right direction for Macross kits. With the new anime, video game, and toys coming out, I'm glad the series is getting the love it deserves.

Oh yeah, I have the VF-25F Armored Messiah. It's one hell of a display, but goddamn its quite a nightmare to build, stickers, and colors. I intended to buy the Alto's but only Ozma's available so fine, I took the Ozma's.... it actually traumatize me.

Can't wait to see more Macross designs get adapted. I'd love to see the original Valkyrie with it's wing hardpoints and iconic super pack, the Nightmare and Nightmare Plus, or the utter insanity of the Armored Siegfried. But more then all of that I'd love to see Destroids that everybody keeps sleeping on in favor of the fighters. The Cheyenne and Defender would be awesome!
Just hope they work on the color accuracy a bit more in the meantime.

Right now, all I can find are kits from Frontier (which I do like) and Delta (which I couldn't even get through the first few episodes of) I hope to see kits from the OG series, especially with the more unique VF-1 varients.

I built this one several months ago & Alto's Durandal recently. The stickers on the YF-19 held up pretty well for me except for the black one on the shield which peeled off sometimes. As for the YF-29 you might wanna tighten up the joint for the ab crunch during the build bcs its barely strong enough to hold the wings on the back & disassembling that part is super hard. Other than that I have both at the front of my collection in gerwalk mode & I love them so much. Now I need bandai to do a HG Siegfried (:

Mentioned it before in the VF-31 review, but indeed Kawamori loves his intricate livery on his variable fighters, which makes them very difficult to do color separation for. He doesn't really make the variable fighters "model kit friendly" as it were, especially not at these small scales.
Also, I think doing Max's Valkyrie will be better, since it already includes the Super Packs and thus you won't need to do another review for it.

I've been a Macross fan for a very long time and I just recently got into gunpla. I'm definitely planning on getting this, but I do wish there were more options for Macross kits. I can't believe Bandai isn't currently producing any VF-1 kits. Apparently they did several years ago, but they are long since discontinued and fetch a hefty price on aftermarket sites.
As for this particular kit (just based on looking at it) it is close to the line art. However the line art was designed to take advantage of anime magic. In other words, the proportions would change to accommodate transformation. The old Yamato toy is probably as realistic you can get while still achieving perfect transformation (not having to take it apart and/or swap parts out) I so wish this kit had perfect transformation, but that is probably too much to ask for with a HG kit that is made to be reasonably priced.
The newer Valks (at latest from Frontier onwards) were designed to use CG models so everything could stay on model and in proportion, even while transforming. So I would assume the kits and toys are much closer to what you see on your TV.
When I do get this kit, I will probably try some custom paint scheme because I already own the Yamato YF-19 in Isamu Dyson colors. And what is Macross without a ton of different paint schemes for the same Valkyrie?

This is the pain of the Macross variable fighters fan. You have two choices: amazing Arcadia or Yamato diecast fully transferable figures that are prohibitively expensive (was able to score Arcadia YF-19 during a reprint and it is awesome) and go out of stock almost immediately or cheap Bandai model kits that have a sticker sheet larger than the model kit itself and used to be extremely fragile and hard to transform. No middle ground.

    • @fattiger6957
      @fattiger6957 ปีที่แล้ว

As someone who used to collect Yamato figures back in the day (like when the YF-19 was first released) I understand this. I seriously regret selling my 1/48 VF-1J Stealth with strike parts. It now goes for like 5x more than I sold it for. Same with my VF-0S.
I wish Bandai would re-release their old 1/55 line for a reasonable price. They certainly weren't accurate (with that big metal bar for transformation) but at least those were durable figures that could be sold at an affordable price.

Kinda winced when you showed how the leg peg broke.
the "energy effect" is for performing a pin-point barrier punch. This tech originated from the original Macross series where the ship can generate an energy field to act as a shield but due to the power consumption they can only create 3 small shields and each is controlled by a female crew with a large trackball to move and catch incoming shots. Later on this was "weaponized" by having the Macross in it's transformed state to perform a pinpoint barrier punch by ramming it's arm with an armored carrier attach to another ship while it's tip has the 3 pin point barrier energy effect concentrated at the tip for protection. For the YF-19 it can either protect a portion of the hull OR be used with the fist for the pinpoint barrier punch.
I'm guessing there might be a kit variation later for the VF-19 Fire Valkyrie and Emerald Force series (from Macross 7)
Hope the YF-21 gets released soon.

nothing compared to hasegawa color separation, which is non existent,
most of the times "gunpla builders" complain over things that are already way better than 99% of model kits in the industry, they need a reality check, those "issues" are something that require the bare minimum skill to build a regular model kit,
they would literally die trying to build a hasegawa, aoshima, wave or sentinel model kit, those require a lot of painting and cleaning

@@troloinkto One of the things that drew me into a small Gunpla collection is how these kits are engineered. I've spent a lifetime messing with solvent glues, plastic putty, masking, airbrushes, sandpaper, etc trying to get display-worthy military models. Often from molds older than I am.
What you get in a $20 HG Gundam from Bandai, in comparison, is nuts.

Obviously there is more attention to details in Battroid mode (color separation on shoulders and chest) than the other two modes (no color separation on the upper and lower fins, and the black piece behind the head)
Anyway, part-formation is definitely the right decision for such a small but complex kit.

well, 1/100 it's the scale, it's not like saying "6 inch figure"
it is not a standard size, a 1/100 kit of the Gunbuster would be 2.8 meters, while a 1/100 of the scopedog would be like 4 centimeters, that's how a scale works, not every mecha is the same size as the RX-78-2
in the A.C.E. videogame series you can see the actual size of each mecha

    • @fattiger6957

Even in Macross, the size of mecha vary wildly. A 1/60 VF-0 is the same size as a 1/48 VF-1. A HWR-00 Monster in 1/60 would be massive. I built a papercraft one in 1/100 and it's already huge.

out of the 5 kits in line (including the ones that aren't our yet), only 2 are from entries from this century, I don't think Bandai is priorizing the new entries, at least now at this point in time

The reason for most of the stickers most probably because on the actual unit those areas were painted, not because of them being separate parts

How is it ordering kits from HLJ cuz I ve been wanting to order a kit like this one it's just I've never ordered anything from Japan. I guess my biggest question/considered is
    1. How expensive does it get with shipping?
    2. Does it arrive on time?
    3. Do they take payment if needed?

    • @fattiger6957
      @fattiger6957 ปีที่แล้ว

I haven't bought anything from HLJ in a long time, but they offer a few different shipping options. It all depends on how quick you want it. The cheapest will be slow since they are shipping it from Japan by boat. The faster options are air mail. One thing to note is that you will probably have to pay customs duty on whatever you get.

The YF-19 and YF-29 are two of my absolute favorite mecha designs on all time. As bad as the YF-19's stickers are, though, the 29's are absolutely awful. I built the Alto version, but when I build the Max version I've ordered I don't know if I'm willing to go through that sticker hell again.

I bought the first 1/72 Bandai Macross Frontier kit and it was awful. The details are there, but they're forcing a fully transformable model kit and it was janky as hell. When everything connects, it's truly a feat of engineering, but most often than not, it's a floppy mess. I have the 1/100 YF-19, and even though it's small, it's sturdy as F, I displayed the kit on my work computer table and it's glorious.

      Dimensions:
Battroid Mode: height 15.48 meters (without cannon)
Fighter Mode: wingspan 14.87 meters [14.89 meters]; height 3.94 meters; length 18.62 meters
