Black men being feminine or soft in media is rarely depicted, and when it is, it’s often painted as a negative thing. Juwon is such amazing representation!!!
Idk if that first part is true. Most black men in media are depicted as not being feminine and soft because… most of them aren’t, so it’s not “rare” so much as it’s realistic for it not to be depicted as much. That said there has been a rise in depicting black men as being softER, and it is often shown to be a negative thing, like they’re made out to be stereotypes or annoying, also being treated as such by the characters. Hopefully that will change someday.

Hey! I totally understand you didn’t mean it this way, but the sentiment of “Black men aren’t soft” is a reductive stereotype. It’s unfair to treat any group as a monolith. It’s not so much “Black men aren’t soft,” rather, “Black men aren’t allowed to be soft due to cultural stigma and expectations.” The rise of depicting Black men in a softer way isn’t because they’re suddenly becoming softer, it’s because the cultural stigma of man=hard is just starting to be loosened. You’re definitely right that historically, feminine Black men have been made to be a joke, but those are rooted in racism and homophobia. There are a bunch of resources online so you can discover and understand these concepts from a Black male perspective; it’s important to strive to be educated by the voices of those you’re learning about! :)

I think the bandaid is because decora (and other Japanese street fashion like fairy kei and jojifuku) have a very childlike vibe, and children often have bandaids
It’s 2024 and coming to the end of June, but this video is still fantastic 5 years later!! Not only is Juwon aesthetically pleasing, absolutely gorg, but he means so much. I just figured out I’m a transman, a genderfluid demiboy to be specific. I’ve struggled with femininity and internalized transphobia, especially with how much I appreciate my body but am uncomfortable in it. Does that make sense? It makes me feel alone and isolated… but then I see the rest of the community and I feel better, seeing the joy and creativity. This was amazing, from start to finish. Also my comment is pretty long, but tl;dr, this doll makes me feel happiness, and I’m trans.
Can you try and make a male doll out of a female doll or a female doll out of a male doll? That would be really cool and interesting!

And a girlfriend for her like you did with juwon and his boyfriend or even just a punk gf for Ayako since she's already rainbow-coloured. I think it would be cute and I really want to see a punk or goth female doll in your style. Anyway, I love your work! ❤
