- House Sparrows are one of the most common birds on my garden feeders. I decided to give the little sparrows some stitchery love by using fabric and thread to show a bird sitting at the bird feeder.
Pieces of fabric and simple stitches make this beautiful portrait easier than you might think.

That little fellow came to life the minute you added the eye! Love the idea of the bird feeder and you captured it so well with the backpack fabric. And the seeds just were the frosting on the cake! Bravo Marion🎉

It's the simple things in life that bring pleasure. You've brought the common house sparrow to life with simple stitches, nothing fancy, no bright or gaudy thread. He perches proudly with a glint in his eye against the lovely background fabric, oblivious to how many people will admire him. Another top job Marion!
I'm so joyful that everyone has loved him. I thought people would rather have kingfishers and barn owls,...but I've just ended up stitching the ones I see every day..💐

This is simply beautiful. I love how you gradually built up the whole by adding layers and highlights and shadows. He's delightful. I too am an avid birdwatcher, feeder, bird lover. My grandmother's surname was Sparrow!

Just what I needed to watch you stitch another lovely page for your book Marion😊 I'm sitting stitching in my Sewing Room while my husband's watching rugby on the TV in the room. Both just found we've got Covid for the first time so for me at least I'm needing online friends to keep me company as I stitch. Enjoy your break soon I think. Thought I was the only one with crewel wools like that in my stash! I must finish a kit of a crewel sparrow that a late friend gave me when we moved here. I think it's a Nicola Jarvis design. I enjoy working with wools for a change.
Oh no...the dreaded covid! I hope you're both on the mend now 🤞 I haven't had it at all thank goodness. And I hope it stays that way too! At least you have something to do if you're well enough to have the concentration 🤞🪡🧵

What a sweet little bird. Reminds me of the one I made friends with when I lived in Hartlepool. She would come every morning as I sat out at breakfast, and I would throw her a handful of seeds. It wouldn't have taken much encouragement to have her feeding from my hand, she was so friendly. You make such beautiful things, thank you for sharing them with us.

Sweet little House Sparrow, so easily ignored among all the other showier birds. So much fun to watch your simple stitches create a beautiful image. Love seeing all the different threads you are using. I'm still working on my "Summer" flower book but have got waylaid by other projects for the moment.

Excellent! Amazing to watch it come together. My favorite parts are the feeder and seeds. I just love the realism the feeder added. We have house sparrows here in Wisconsin. They are non-native birds. My father called them sputzies. Of course, I googled that: “Sputzie” is likely from a German word for a small brown bird. They ARE sweet little birds that are everywhere here. Thank you, Marion. You always make me think and remember. You also inspire me daily to be creative and use what I have.

I looked up your little cactus wren... they're beautiful. They have speckled breasts, stripey tails and white eyebrows! I think you should try stitching one on a 🌵!
