Yes Marion this certainly did bring back the memories growing up in the 1950's and 60's when we had deep snow drifts so often... who could get to the milk first, us or the birds but they always looked so cute perched on top pecking away at the silver foil. I love that you expand your crafting mind! We used to have a basket weaver who taught in my small country town 70 miles west of Chicago. I was lucky enough to take a class and made Easter baskets for my children long ago. It was so much fun and easier than I expected. Your little blue tit is absolutely beautiful!

I’m always awestruck by the many different things you do. I do enjoy them. Your channel is great ti watch. I’m a 73 year old lady from Idaho in America, and have always loved to craft.But now I mostly just make baby quilts for my great grand babies and still love to embroider and cross stitch. I use to crochet, but my fingers aren’t straight anymore and crochet is hard to get my fingers to do what I want them to. So when I watch you, I’m embroidering and cross stitching and just entertaining myself by watching your videos. You bring alot of joy to people.
Ps. Your Bluetooth bird on the milk bottle is wonderful. My dad was a milkman and milked his own cows and delivered milk on doorsteps like the one in your picture. Brought back quite a few memories.🐦🐦

Thanks Linda. I still get my milk delivered and they still have foil tops, but unfortunately the little bluetits have forgotten about the milk. They learned from parent birds but it all stopped as milk deliveries declined. I can remember them still doing it in the mid 80's...

This bird is so sweet! We do not have such small birds here in South Georgia. When I lived in Tennessee I learned how to make a traditional egg basket, very useful even though I didn 't have chickens. Once I returned to South Georgia where we grow long leaf pines, I learned to make pine needle baskets with fitted lids! Great fun!

Thank you Sheryl. I started with fabric that had the pattern on. Or kits where it all came with the threads etc... I think that's how most people start off... I'm sure you could do your own flower or bird..or anything.... Just have a go.. you'll enjoy the trying of it I'm sure...and you might just surprise yourself! Good luck..😊

I’ve hit the pause button for working on my bird book until I get a few pairs of Christmas socks knit for my grandchildren! It’s such a gift from you-that when I can get back to it - I can just choose a video and get stitching! Love the willow baskets- I’m guessing that when you get the hang of it you will be making baskets of all sorts and sizes out of all kinds of materials-even cordage made from garden fibers or fabric strips or rolled paper! Sky is the limit!

Watching all your embroidery birds in this series. I’m dreadful with identifying birds so for 2024 I have set a task for myself. When I see a bird, I will identify a bird, then stitch it then move on to the next one. My plan is to create my own bird book. I have stated in January 2024 with the Greenfinch.yes it’s in decline but there are loads further down the Wear Valley where I live. Love your videos. You are so talented xx
That's wonderful Barbara.... I think I don't see as many greenfinch as I used to. But they do still come to my feeders. It will be lovely to stitch the ones you see around your garden. I started out thinking I'd do barn owls and kingfishers...but in the end, the ones I see in my garden were enough for me! Happy stitching to you...

Marion you are so talented!!!! Not only do you do fantastic embroideries but you can make baskets too!!! I love baskets and I have them to keep knitting projects in as well as to hold my spinning fibres. I did attend a course once to learn basketry but by the end of the day - and it was a LONG day! - my hands were so stiff and sore I never tried it again. Happy crafting and best wishes as always. I remember the glass milk bottles on the porch but they were put into a white milk box , so if there were birds they couldn't get to them. I love birds and sometimes draw them and recreate their colors with colored pencils, I am highly impressed with your techniques and will be trying them out. I found you this morning and loved watching the blue tit being embroidered. Then you go and end up showing me the basket you made. Perhaps those that are good with their hands are always willing to try another craft. I also like to have a go at different things and have ended up with a room full of 'stuff' ! Oh, Marion, your baskets are awesome! My aunt taught me how to make baskets when I was a tweenager. Very fun, very satisfying. But those were perfect little baskets, never cool like your artisanal baskets. You could easily make a round basket with a lid; maybe it could look like a pumpkin or an acorn. Endless possibilities. I love your blue tit. Is the blue tit your husband’s spirit animal? I love your story about milk bottles. We had milk delivered when we lived in Ruislip (near London). I don’t think birds pecked the caps. Where I grew up in Wisconsin, we had a “milk chute.” The milkman delivered the bottles into this square cubby with a little outside door and an inside door. If ever my parents left their keys in the house, they’d shove my little brother thru the chute. It was always kinda thrilling. I don’t know if my brother enjoyed it. 💜💜💜
Oh Mara... you made me laugh out loud at this story. I could just imagine it all happening too.... We once were locked out after coming home from a day out. We were almost at the point of breaking in the back door when we noticed the bathroom window was ajar. Michael got the ladders from down the garden and we sent Luke up them, he must have been about 8, and he managed to squeeze his hand through to get to the the window latch and open it enough to climb in. He landed in the washbasin! We buried a spare key in a secret place after that!

Your little blue tit is beautiful. As always. 😃I remember the birds drinking the milk or cream.. But in the '60 almost everybody had the milkbottles outside, as the milkman came early in the morning. And when 1 bird knows how to do something, every bird know it. I believe they started in England and soon birds over the whole world could do the same thing. I don't believe we have milkbottles with foil here in The Netherlands anymore. And bottles are in the shop, not outside. You made a lovely basket. You learn so quick (fast, I don't know how to write it) because you do so many different things. It is more difficult to learn something complete different. For me that is music. Not being musical at all, and I learn to play harp. I wait for your new video. Have a good week

It's supposed to be a very difficult instrument to play....but so beautiful too 💕 I like listening to music but I can't play anything...😏 I actually do still get milk bottles. Although it's not so common here either, I've never changed...
I love to play harp, but I'am not good. or very well doing it. But it doesn't matter I don't want to be a famous person. 😄I cannot read the music notes ( sign🎶) I'am just like a little child: I color them, and then I can play.
I have my own harp,, it is a smaller one, about 1m 20cm high. I color the notes in the musicbook,, and after that I can find the string (?) i must play. I have not a good ear for music at all. 😆I don't hear the different between do and mi or any other note. 🤣
I know this is a little late, but as I watched this I was knitting a shawl - very lacy - and darn I got a wrong stitch in somewhere and had to unpick the whole row - have 233 stitches on the needle. It was so fascinating to watch you do the bluetit that I lost count of my stitches. I am loving this whole series of birds. What's next???
The little blue tit stealing the milk brought back so many childhood memories, I remember in the frosty mornings the milk had expanded and popped the top of the bottle, the wee birds had a feast without having to work for it. I tried basket weaving a long time ago and found it to be too hard on my hands. I have the hand strength, but it dried my hands out too much. I am happy you are enjoying it.
I wish I was your neighbor. I would love to craft with you and feel I could learn so much. But I'm many, many miles away in the States and will have to stick to the videos. Can I offer one suggestion? When you put something up close to the camera for us to see, pause a little longer to so we can get a good view or so that we can pause the video on our end to look at. You were quite right Marion when you said he’s coming along a treat as he certainly is a treat. My mum used to get her milk delivered and the blue tits always pecked into the tops to get the cream so I know it was still happening and the birds hadn’t forgotten 10 years ago in Haughton le Skerne. ❤️❤️

Gorgeous! You have inspired me to try making a bird using fabric scraps. I have only embroidered one before. I need to add a little creature to my Spring slow stitch piece, so I think I will try a fairy wren, after watching this video a few more times again first! Thanks Marion.😊your baskets are so lovely! I did basket weaving as a child and remember disliking it as it was so hard on the hands. I am curious if it was just the materials we used, and if willow is perhaps softer? I think we used cane and had to soak it in water.
I hope your fairy wren comes out well Leanne. I'm sure it will ☺️ I think it will be the same sort of willow. This also had to be soaked before use. But the canes were quite thin, so that helped. I can't wait to learn more!
Hello Marion. I too remember cheeky blue tits pinching the cream off the milk and yours is absolutely perfect. You are so clever at finding the right materials and bringing it all together so artfully. I live in Somerset which has a centuries old basket making tradition. Just up the road from me we have the Willows and Wetlands centre which is home to the Hector family still making willow work to this day. I did a residential course in Sussex many years ago to learn basket making and like you loved it. I always wanted to make a basket out of different coloured ornamental dog woods - just imagine all those shades of red, orange and yellow! You can use almost anything which I guess is what poor country people did who had little money. Your baskets are a thing of beauty.

Thanks Linda. I still get my milk delivered and they still have foil tops, but unfortunately the little bluetits have forgotten about the milk. They learned from parent birds but it all stopped as milk deliveries declined.

This bird is so sweet! We do not have such small birds here in South Georgia. When I lived in Tennessee I learned how to make a traditional egg basket, very useful even though I didn 't have chickens. Once I returned to South Georgia where we grow long leaf pines, I learned to make pine needle baskets with fitted lids! Great fun!

Thank you Sheryl. I started with fabric that had the pattern on. Or kits where it all came with the threads etc... I think that's how most people start off... I'm sure you could do your own flower or bird..or anything.... Just have a go.. you'll enjoy the trying of it I'm sure...and you might just surprise yourself! Good luck..😊

I’ve hit the pause button for working on my bird book until I get a few pairs of Christmas socks knit for my grandchildren! It’s such a gift from you-that when I can get back to it - I can just choose a video and get stitching! Love the willow baskets- I’m guessing that when you get the hang of it you will be making baskets of all sorts and sizes out of all kinds of materials-even cordage made from garden fibers or fabric strips or rolled paper! Sky is the limit!

Watching all your embroidery birds in this series. I’m dreadful with identifying birds so for 2024 I have set a task for myself. When I see a bird, I will identify a bird, then stitch it then move on to the next one. My plan is to create my own bird book. I have stated in January 2024 with the Greenfinch.yes it’s in decline but there are loads further down the Wear Valley where I live. Love your videos. You are so talented xx
That's wonderful Barbara.... I think I don't see as many greenfinch as I used to. But they do still come to my feeders. It will be lovely to stitch the ones you see around your garden. I started out thinking I'd do barn owls and kingfishers...but in the end, the ones I see in my garden were enough for me! Happy stitching to you...

Marion you are so talented!!!! Not only do you do fantastic embroideries but you can make baskets too!!! I love baskets and I have them to keep knitting projects in as well as to hold my spinning fibres. I did attend a course once to learn basketry but by the end of the day - and it was a LONG day! - my hands were so stiff and sore I never tried it again. Happy crafting and best wishes as always. Wish you lived a bit closer!
I don't know why I should make baskets because I do have a lovely collection of vintage ones in all shapes and sizes! But I do love learning a new craft!

I remember the glass milk bottles on the porch but they were put into a white milk box , so if there were birds they couldn't get to them.
I love birds and sometimes draw them and recreate their colors with colored pencils, I am highly impressed with your techniques and will be trying them out. I like that you incorporated the pieces of fabric.

I found you this morning and loved watching the blue tit being embroidered. Then you go and end up showing me the basket you made. Perhaps those that are good with their hands are always willing to try another craft. I also like to have a go at different things and have ended up with a room full of 'stuff' ! Another stunning stitched bird picture and beautiful memories.. thank you. I’m playing at crochet with 4ply variegated sock weight yarn. My piece could end up as a pocket on a garment, or maybe the front of a phone holder.. I’m just enjoying myself. And your baskets are fabulous.. Oh, Marion, your baskets are awesome! My aunt taught me how to make baskets when I was a tweenager. Very fun, very satisfying. But those were perfect little baskets, never cool like your artisanal baskets. You could easily make a round basket with a lid; maybe it could look like a pumpkin or an acorn. Endless possibilities. I love your blue tit. Is the blue tit your husband’s spirit animal? I love your story about milk bottles. We had milk delivered when we lived in Ruislip (near London). I don’t think birds pecked the caps. Where I grew up in Wisconsin, we had a “milk chute.” The milkman delivered the bottles into this square cubby with a little outside door and an inside door. If ever my parents left their keys in the house, they’d shove my little brother thru the chute. It was always kinda thrilling. I don’t know if my brother enjoyed it. 💜💜💜
Oh Mara... you made me laugh out loud at this story. I could just imagine it all happening too.... We once were locked out after coming home from a day out. We were almost at the point of breaking in the back door when we noticed the bathroom window was ajar. Michael got the ladders from down the garden and we sent Luke up them, he must have been about 8, and he managed to squeeze his hand through to get to the the window latch and open it enough to climb in. He landed in the washbasin! We buried a spare key in a secret place after that!

Your little blue tit is beautiful. As always. 😃I remember the birds drinking the milk or cream.. But in the '60 almost everybody had the milkbottles outside, as the milkman came early in the morning. And when 1 bird knows how to do something, every bird know it. I believe they started in England and soon birds over the whole world could do the same thing. I don't believe we have milkbottles with foil here in The Netherlands anymore. And bottles are in the shop, not outside. You made a lovely basket. You learn so quick (fast, I don't know how to write it) because you do so many different things. It is more difficult to learn something complete different. For me that is music. Not being musical at all, and I learn to play harp. I wait for your new video. Have a good week

I have my own harp,, it is a smaller one, about 1m 20cm high. I color the notes in the musicbook,, and after that I can find the string (?) i must play. I have not a good ear for music at all. 😆I don't hear the different between do and mi or any other note. 🤣
I know this is a little late, but as I watched this I was knitting a shawl - very lacy - and darn I got a wrong stitch in somewhere and had to unpick the whole row - have 233 stitches on the needle. It was so fascinating to watch you do the bluetit that I lost count of my stitches. I am loving this whole series of birds. What's next???

The little blue tit stealing the milk brought back so many childhood memories, I remember in the frosty mornings the milk had expanded and popped the top of the bottle, the wee birds had a feast without having to work for it. I wish I was your neighbor. I would love to craft with you and feel I could learn so much. But I'm many, many miles away in the States and will have to stick to the videos. Can I offer one suggestion? When you put something up close to the camera for us to see, pause a little longer to so we can get a good view or so that we can pause the video on our end to look at. You were quite right Marion when you said he’s coming along a treat as he certainly is a treat. My mum used to get her milk delivered and the blue tits always pecked into the tops to get the cream so I know it was still happening and the birds hadn’t forgotten 10 years ago in Haughton le Skerne. ❤️❤️

Gorgeous! You have inspired me to try making a bird using fabric scraps. I have only embroidered one before. I need to add a little creature to my Spring slow stitch piece, so I think I will try a fairy wren, after watching this video a few more times again first! Thanks Marion.😊your baskets are so lovely! I did basket weaving as a child and remember disliking it as it was so hard on the hands. I am curious if it was just the materials we used, and if willow is perhaps softer? I think we used cane and had to soak it in water.

I think it will be the same sort of willow. This also had to be soaked before use. But the canes were quite thin, so that helped. I can't wait to learn more!

The books are by Wendy Thorner. One is for beginners and the other is 15 designs for the home. Both seem really good to me...
Hello Marion. I too remember cheeky blue tits pinching the cream off the milk and yours is absolutely perfect. You are so clever at finding the right materials and bringing it all together so artfully. I live in Somerset which has a centuries old basket making tradition. Just up the road from me we have the Willows and Wetlands centre which is home to the Hector family still making willow work to this day. I did a residential course in Sussex many years ago to learn basket making and like you loved it. I always wanted to make a basket out of different coloured ornamental dog woods - just imagine all those shades of red, orange and yellow! You can use almost anything which I guess is what poor country people did who had little money. Your baskets are a thing of beauty.
