I disagree. The deaths are to give the viewer a sense of hopelessness. In most superhero films, it's clear the hero will win, but in this, you truly are hoping they'll win, making the victory even more satisfying. That's what happens when they all look at Barry Allen as he is about to travel through time, it's hope for a better tomorrow. That's what heroes are. Symbols of hope.
“Nightwing is stabbed to death” is this even surprising? Nightwing has been shat on since the post flash point. Every fight he’s in he gets jobbed and it’s ridiculous. He’s supposed to be close to Batman’s level and yet I don’t remember him getting a win at all.
Hell, look how the comic treats the guy, he got shot in the head, losing his memory of anything after his parents dying and now drives a cab with 4 other people using his tech as “Nightwing”.

what makes this movie disturbing is probably because many viewers didnt expect whats coming, inlcuding me. i never expect there will so many gore content in superhero cartoon movie, if i expect it i woldnt that shocked tbh, i have read many gore manga as well and i quite like it, but this one hits different, seeing our favorite heroes dismembered is just something else lol

What I hated the most was how they treated Green Lanterns.... Like, come the hell on. Entire Green Lantern Corps is fucking off-screened... Hate it when GLs are being shat upon so much.

The last scene is haunting I’ve never been a DC fan but seeing heroes like Wonder Woman, Batman, Starfire, Nightwing, Martian Manhunter as a shell of their former selves, broken, mourning the lives lost because of their mistake
I think it's because people were getting tired of these, i mean, at least i am, it's the same thing over and over again, Batman:Hush was pretty meh, without the charm of the comic and awesome art style, it also fails because it is part of a connected universe, at least that's my opinion

@Sam Rogers what do you mean? Batman's reprogramming is far more effective than him being killed off. Going from the Hero whose refused to kill at every given opportunity to Darkseid's minion who kills on command and is only broken by putting Batman's son in peril, is far more impactful as a way to show he's been dealt with than killing him. Funnily enough, it was also Joker's greatest ambition, to break the bat, than to kill him.

Which had the potential to be a great concept. But instead it just made the movie be a shock value fest and give beloved character unceremonious deaths just for the sake of proving how dark and gory the movie is. Sacrificing character for shock value. This proves plot armor is a necessary evil no matter how much people hate it.

The Door. This universe is based on the new 52 comic books, with rebirth happening, they did a new flashpoint so they can do new animated movies based on rebirth,
I feel like this movie should have been in two parts. Part 1 being the intro where they try to defeat Darkseid but are defeated themselves. This would have been a better way to kill off your characters one by one in battle instead of a quick freeze frame. Part 2 being the majority of the film we got.
I get that, and "kinda" agree, but then what would the first part be, really? Basically just a huge slaughter-fest. With lots of gore and stuff. And as much as I enjoy that stuff, even I couldn´t stomach an entire movie of that. And besides, you know from the start that they are going to fail. They were not thinking straight, rushing into war unprepared, with the aim to KILL. There was no way that plan succeeds. (And if it does, then we have JL that kills, and have to deal with that.) So yes, it could have been better, but just short: "Yup, bad plan failed", is good enough for me, let´s get on with the movie.

I think is more evil when you only know what happened in details or flashbacks, in "days of the future past" of the x-men(comics) that works incredibly and gives a greater hopelessness feeling!

@@mr.cranker8086 I'll try my best to defend such actions because you asking the question makes me think about the question in of itself. When I watched this movie I thought those deaths were pretty meaningful in a general sense because we literally saw those characters grow and existed for those years, so the death of them in such a way is the point. In actual wars when your friend dies you don't have the time to morn him/her. You don't get a whole scene or 5 minutes to an hour dedicated to thinking about that character's existence. You literally either try to pick up their body at that moment or run leaving them there like which happens in actual wars. Yes and No to the shock value part of it but it felt justified to me to emphasize the seriousness of those character's death. How many movies would it have taken to honor every death, how much time of the movie would it have taken to do such a thing? It literally all seem to be self-evident to me the seriousness of them fighting Darkseid.
@@mr.cranker8086 Maybe it's because I'm more of a darker person in general, but when the movie ended it left me with the feeling of "What's the point of winning if you lost so much to get there". Like, in the end, John said himself like would this life worth being lived if you had to lose so many people. That's the question I had constantly running through my head or how could they have even fought him in a more prepared manner.
@@avarice4556 I agree, watching wonder woman's arm ripped off, bat girl getting mauled generally all their deaths are scary and gruesome. I shows how serious things are. These people are not normal being there for to put them down requires a swift and painful death. It's like putting a bullet in a body to make sure they are dead. As the viewer it pains us and that is the intended effect. However some people hate the flashpoint in the end cause it makes everything that happened pointless. But I'll argue that such a lost, such a pyrrhic victory is no victory at all. The battle is won, but the war for earth and humanity is lost. Flash being able to undo all this and hopefully make a better universe is the only solution. Constantine summed it up perfectly when he talked to the Flash about this.
Donna Troy didn't even get a death scene. She literally just flat out vanished. Like what, did she somehow get stuck in the speedforce or some shit? lmao
Donna Troy, Arsenal, and Kid Flash cameo'd in the Judas Contract. But yeah, I see your point. Say, wasn't Kid Flash the ginger version in the Judas Contract flashback? Why did he suddenly turn black in Apokolips War? In the New 52, it was at least explained that the timeline/reality was the reason for the race change, but this was the same continuity.
Damien makes the best point of the whole movie. You went into a war without any killers. Their naivety was their downfall. The lesson is sometimes there isn’t a happy ending and sometimes you have to be brutal to achieve the greater good.
In fact he went easy on them. He could’ve added in the hit that they jumped to the home planet of a guy they barely managed to push through a portal, with like 10 people.

I'm actually ok with that. He's not a teen titan he's a grown man not just his age, which is still in his early 20s, but after going through the hardships he has it would have aged him. Him saying something like booyah just seems childish, which is not this film at all.
It's crazy how the movie that kickstarted this entire universe, The Flashpoint Paradox, has characters being killed left & right, but it manages to serve a purpose and still deliver that shock value.

Honestly my breakout star was Etrigan. That shit he was saying in the movie was hilarious. And of course I REALLY enjoyed Trigon and Darkseid's big fight. Mostly because it's a feud that never happened before. I really hope they revisit Trigon vs Darkseid in the future.
@fck peace cause warner bros did once release a animated movie in theatre's, its name was batman: mask of the phantasm, and while everybody loved it, in theatre's it made only 5.6 mil, which might be impressive for one of these movies, but for a theatrical like phantasm which had a budget of 6 mil, it couldn't break even, although it did have a success home release and the reason it underperformed at the box office was most likely due to rushed marketing due to the decision to make it theatrical being a sudden decision. Its a shame too, since I would've loved to have seen these movies with higher budgets and better animation, plus they shelved the young justice animated movie that was also planned to release in theatre's.
@fck peace lol I think my wording might've been misleading, I meant release them in cinema's first and then home release shortly after. The advantage of cinema movies is that they have higher budgets. Still I would've liked to have gotten the young justice tie-in animated movie whether or not it was direct-to-video or theatrical.
After watching this film, I really wished they had more movies where the characters were developed more. I wanted to Raven and Damian's relationship bloom longer. I wanted to see more Teen Titans films. I wanted to see some of the other characters have their own solo films. There were do many storylines that weren't covered. I was actually excited to see Raven and Constantine team up even if it was for one movie but I was disappointed because I actually wanted to see something like this but as it's own movie, like Raven helping Constantine with some demonic shit. But sadly, this is the only film where I got what I wanted (the team up and Raven and Damian's relationship) even if it was for a little while. Still, there could have been so much more 😔🥺😭
To be honest, this movie was the perfect representation of the new 52. it was forced. overly edgy and dark. Made little to no sense at times. In the end they decided to just kill it and prepare for Rebirth. at least that is what im hoping they do with the Animated movies
Yes, just like Wonder Woman, Animal Man, Batman, Batman & Robin, JLDark, JL, Aquaman, Green Arrow, Swamp Thing, Grayson, Midnighter, The Omega Men, Flash, Lois and Clark and Multiversity, they were all horrible edgy books. [/s] These are the good books form the New 52, some are great all the way through like Batman & Robin, some start great until writer changes like Wonder Woman and some actually get better after writer changes like Green Arrow.
To be honest this movie really, really frustrated me. I really freaking loved the DCAU. I’ve got really fond memories watching Justice League: War with my dad when it first came out, and going to watch the other movies with my friends enjoying every movie. But to have the entire universe end just like that, it sucks man. There was so much character development throughout the universe, and to just have it completely end, oof. I distinctly remember saying “what the fuck” the moment the movie ended. I mean I genuinely grew to love these characters throughout the course of these films, but to have so many of them killed off just so unceremoniously. We’ve been here from the beginning to end, it’s just a shame that it had to end like this.
@Killua was the world being literally destroyed like in Flashpoint? That was one of the main reasons for Flash to fix things, not because the world was shit but because it basically ceased to exist due to the detonation of an atomic blast apparently powerful enough to shatter the planet. Still though, it's just one planet. An atomic bomb can't wipe out a whole universe. Paradox universes should still be traversible in the grand scheme of the multiverse. That seems to be a story element these recent DC writers can't wrap their heads around. In the next DC universe, I want to actually see the Justice League visit the failed universe (Flashpoint, Gods & Monsters, Dark Apokalips) so they'll have a better idea of how to properly protect their world. It would be great to see some of these Elseworlds heroes (Grifter, Etrigan, vampire Batman, etc) recruited for a final confronation.
I loved this art style. The movies were awesome and I wish it continued. This ending left me empty. I wish we got more from this. This universe is so good. If they released these in theaters like regular movies it would be better than their live action counter parts.
I definitely feel the whole, "it's amazing but dogshit at the same time" is the best representation of this movie. No matter what it was going to end the same way. The Flash fixes and breaks everything. 🤷🏾♂️
That's why it was a perfect ending to this universe for me because it has been needlessly edgy since right after Flashpoint. It's the perfect capturing of the overall tone of that universe (which was kinda based on the New 52, so of course it was edgy). I for one am glad they're going back to mostly original movies or movies based on the 'quintessential' comics because they still have a few more to go and they'll probably never do most of the live action stuff as faithfully as these movies can.
The flash point was necessary, if you were in their shoes won't you do the same. Such a pyrrhic victory after losing so much just goes to show the battle was ultimately won. But at what cost. The war for humanity was lost. Constantine summed it up perfectly. Sure there will be consequences but atleast it won't be as bad at the earth losing half it cores and an estimate of another billion deaths.
DC made me someone who was indifferent to Barry to now outright spitting in his presence. His biggest contribution in life was staying 6 feet under. Better speedesters rose up and proved he was no longer needed.
I actually liked DCUA art style, its a real shame how they just killed everyone off like nothing. I get it heroes don't always win but gore killing scenes just feel empty
That made it better imo. No bullshit plot-armor or villains pulling their punches for no reason. This was a brutal war, and just like in real life, not everybody get's a beautiful death.
Jerry darkseid had doomsday parademons, they had no chance. It was still a heroic death even though they died pointlessly but again they didnt have a chance

Damian actually being smart and showing emotion and caring about people was what I always wanted to see from him it’s to bad we never got to see him interact with super boy or got to see his relationship with raven develop
As a Teen Titans fan, i have to bring up the fact that there were plans to make a third Teen titans movie where Nightwing and Starfire travelled to Tamaraan to get married and fought Blackfire. The fact that they cancelled that in favor of THIS, where almost all the Teen Titans get murdered off-screen, will never not upset me. Fuck this movie
Not to mention that they were setting up Wondergirl(Donna Troy) and Jericho, and the fact that even have Superboy(Conner Kent) and Kid Flash(Wallace West) as part of their ranks in this movie but were killed immediately afterwards was really disappointing. Also why is it every time they are setting up the Starfire vs Blackfire war arc it gets scrapped bc of studios intervene. I mean season 6 probably would’ve focus on Starfire and Blackfire’s revenge.
I hated how this universe ended, a third of the movies are Batman's, with others only served as introduction to more characters or teams. I need more Justice League! Not JL: Introduction, JL: Here's Aquaman, JL: Here's Titans, JL: Batman's Supernatural Adventure, then JL: Let's Just End It. The massacres in this movie are just disrespectful to many of its characters. They didn't get any growth since their introductory movies before essentially being aborted. Not to mention Darkseid is an underwhelming foe without his minions. I don't think DC even bothered with any merchandising.

Well im totally on board with the reboot, after all that happend and was brutally murdered all our favourite characters like duh we need them back, reboot it or whatever we just want them back and hopefully we gonna get DC rebirth in the near future.
A cool concept to me would have been if nightwing was the last person with a will strong enough to wield a lantern ring. So it flies of to him and heals him from the Lazarus pit. I just wanted to see him get a solid win because he’s supposed to be near Batman level but never gets any respect .
Yea, it seems Nightwing just gets zero respect nowadays, like in InJustice he literally dies from fucking falling on something, I like Damian but Dick shouldn't be tossed to the sidelines to focus on him, it especially sucks here because in earlier movies their sibling dynamic was pretty great, but here they do nothing with the interesting premise
pretty much the only time dc did nightwing justice on screen was in young justice. he's the best and most acccurate portrayal we've gotten of him so far. sadly yj isnt part of any major dc universe, so it doesn't however really the in with anything. it's kind of a standalone... ig? still better than what we've gotten in dcamu, injustice, etc. tho

Movie deaths can happen thats fine but the amount of deaths is what's important when u start picking off mpre than 3 major characters in the 1st hour then the audience will become dessenticsed to it and not feel the impact of others dying. You can kill everyone without literally kill them as is everyone was dumb and pretty noob. Enhanced parademons are not every right execute. Lets compare them to JL war parademons: Both gropped the heroes a lot of times. Why the first ones not straigh kill i dont know...green lantern when they have the chance? because they dont have superman blood? them why you can kill this super parademons that easy and they dont really seems like super powerfuls but just like they get the ability to do "finisher moves" ?

Well I suppose so but it also makes sense in-universe. Like if you had the power to reverse time and literal prevent the end of the world-- wouldn't you? And that exactly what the Flash does.
Gunner Dobbins obviously nothing can be worse than what just happened. Besides, Barry knows he just has to do flashpoint and then fix it again like last time. Of course it probably still can get worse, but in their minds right now, they can't see it possibly getting worse than that.
This was how he fixed flashpoint in the comic, by going back again how ever what he did was stop himself from saving his mom in the first place. I dunno how we ended up with this movie despite certain fun fights. Seemed like some one at dcu had a fondness for Constantine
I liked the movie, but I can agree with you on those certain points. The main problem is that they just go back in time in order to fix their problems. No matter how dark it gets or how miserable you are, you can go back and time and fix those problems, if you remember.
@@TY-wy8nd the problem with the movie is that they completely nerfed a lot of the characters. what makes it worse is the fact that all of the super powered characters got shot, stabbed, eaten and everything. yet most of the non super powered characters stayed alive (until the end of course). Basically, the whole entire problem of the movie is that they made superman give the most dumbest plan ever. not to mention they never thought for once to check on cyborg deeming the fact that his abilities literally come from Darkseid's planet which they should have known by now.

@@humairairfan3810 There is so much message in this film. Arrogance and pragmatism (the consequences of blindly following an enraged Superman to Apokolips). Duty vs love (Damian and Raven separated, because of Damians obligations to the league of shadows. Closure, or the lack of it (Constantine). Many character who complete their development, and the role of the flash... Starting a potentially horrible cycle all over again, still set in motion because he tried to save his mother back at flashpoint.
I actually love Cyborg's last words. They're simple, for a man who has accepted death and can see the humour in it. It's like John Wick's "Such is life"
Nightwing could've been so good in this movie. Imagine him seeing Kory in her cyborg state. And imagine Damien and Nightwing vs Batman. But no, shock value wins

Our leg powered vehicles are right there, in the bush, my cousin made a theory it was probably some mean teenagers, I agreed, but I didn’t take it personally, in my book never take things personally because at times that will get you angry, and you know what they say, getting angry makes you older, too be honest I don’t remember if that’s how the saying goes, it was quite a long time ago when I last heard that saying, around the same era where I lost my scooter.
Personally, I disagree. Dick dying and Damian trying to receive him is just another example of the hero's desperation. I don't see how keeping him alive would have made a difference.
While I can see your point about how the ending doesn't really have a meaning, I kind of like it, specifically this story, that the heroes die non-heroic deaths, the ending not ending on a positive note. It reminds of Infinity War, except the it turns these heroes, it reminds us that these heroes, even though they're larger than life, they're still human just like each of us. For me I think that the message was "even the best of us can fail, and all we can do is start over." Kind of message.
That's what I loved about this movie, not my favorite but to end on a note like this is something most films wouldn't dream of doing and it's refreshing to see the studio take such a risk to show us that our heroes can lose in an instant, I'll never forget this movie.

Yeah, a lot of people still like this movie. It's just that most of the comments agreeing with the video are getting liked by him and more frequently seen. Look at any other comment section on videos showing the movie. People liked it a lot.
My argument towards the stillframe complaint is the example of halo reach’s kat and jun, kat dies to a single needler round, no blaze glory, no bang nothing, just how everyone else dies, then jun is killed offscreen, so i feel the death in the crowd stuff is to reiterate that they’re still human, and will eventually die like the rest of us one way or another

I thought this movie was brilliant. I treated it as a standalone movie or like the Constantine movie sequel, maybe that's why I was able to enjoy it so much.
@@mon_nobi I don’t think he’s being a contrarian so much as he’s viewing this film as a finale to the DCAMU rather than a stand alone like I think most people view it as. By itself, it’s a pretty fun and ballsy ride seeing events that would normally never happen in a story. As a finale to an entire movie universe, it’s pretty lousy way to end the story. So many characters that you may have gotten invested in get killed off in really unceremonious ways(sometimes in a single still frame), and the ending literally undoes the entire universe and makes the entire affair pointless. As person who hated most of the animated movie universes stories, I was able to enjoy the film because I had no preexisting investment in any of them. But I can see how someone who was invested in the characters and stories would have mix feelings on this film.
The point of the movie was also sometimes winning comes at a cost. That’s why even when they won the earth was still going to be destroyed. I think it was fanstastic movie. Not perfect but a solid 8 out of 10
That's the most generic head-canon point I ever heard. "Winning comes at a cost"? You can said the same about literally every single war movie out there.
Ryan The Animator look the movie emphasizes on many things. If you follow the entire DC animated movies then you realize that in all the movies the heroes were never truly challenged. There was never a battle that made the heroes question their livelihood. This movie tells the audience that even the mighty justice league can be beaten and broken even Batman, even Superman. In this movie the bad guy won plain and simple.

I like the points made in this video. I had different issues with the film, but I believe what he was ultimately trying to convey was sincere character service and arcs. Well done homie.

that's why that part feels incomplete and should be its own movie i'd really like to see each character that died actually fight, see their character change as the movie goes on, see them go from hopeful to dreadful up until it completes and they die instead of nightwing being stabbed in like 10 frames of the entire film
Here’s hoping the writers when rebooting the series, they bring in Tim Drake and Jason Todd. Who were wrongfully cut from the series to make way for Damien to be OP. Them being completely discarded from the movies was a huge slap in the face for fans who loved them.
Dceu movies dont follow strictly with the comics. All they did was use the most current robin of the time. There was no reason to add tim and jason to sin of the batman

It's why he's searched for an heir of his own, instead of leaving his work to his family. Nevermind that Talia is probably one of Bruce's weakest love interests. Getting past that. There is no way Ra's Al Ghul would tolerate someone he's training to be that impolite and outright rude to complete strangers like how Damien acts. Say nothing about how Batman lets him treat Alfred and Dick. As far as most powerful Robin, nail on the head. He doesn't even fight like the younger Robin's who always used tricks or speed to get the job done. He, as a teenager goes toe to toe with stronger adult foes with his sword and overpowers them. It's completely unbelievable (nevermind him running roughshod over Deathstroke, Nightwing and Batman) He has all the hallmarks of a Mary Sue. An incredible, young prodigy that is a far more capable version of an existing character, is a result of a fantasy coupling, outright outshines the protaganist during Son of Batman, Batman vs Robin and Bad Blood and hooks up with Raven because she's popular. He's someone's Mary Sue wish fulfillment fantasy.
I completely disagree with your review, literally the whole point of this movie was to be the finale of the trilogy, the fight was anticipated to be the hardest right off the bat, there's a reason we got the death of superman, it was to build up for the final assault on apokolips, we can see that the justice league indeed lost, and yet even when the justice league are in the darkest timeline, they still are holding onto the last bit of hope in order to save the remaining bit of humanity no matter the cost, the point of this movie was to realistically portray the consequences of war, no matter what outcome, there will be losses, that's why it can be considered as justice league dark, instead of regular justice league, in the end, Barry running off into the sunset to cause another flash point, ultimately, causing the timeline to reset, not in a perfect way of course but to at least help overcome the problems that apokolips caused. That's why I completely disagree with your review but what do I know, I just like the DC universe and everyone is entitled to their opinions, hope you get the chance to read this if you ever find this and I wish you good day.

Same here, I did cringe at the oh Batman planned it all along moment. I loved the lack of plot armor, characters, especially Constantine was undoubtedly the heart of the movie IMHO.
Personally. It was extremely hard to see my favorite hero's die so brutally. The movie though was good and had me on the edge of my seat on exactly "how" they were coming back to take that dub. Even if it was a sad ending to me it leaves room for more later on possibly.

WB/DC basically screwed up the DC animated movie universe. They had them base it on New 52, which was abandoned by the comics, but they still had to continue it in the movies. The writers couldn't do as much of their own things since all these stories were based on comics. Second, these movies were being made more on a schedule. They had to make a certain number of movies per year. The writers had to keep to those deadlines and never got extra time for rewrites. Third and worst, they limited the budget. For 10 years, the budgets of these movies have not really increased. In fact, remember how when they first started doing these animated DC movies on a regular basis, they also released 10 minute shorts along with those movies? Those shorts were cut because WB didn't want to spend the extra money on them.
Honestly I think continuity is a great thing particularly in a show, but wouldn’t it have been interesting if the movies looked I don’t know....different from time to time.

Ackchuyually, the point of the film is literally at the begin in quotes and it parallel Flashpoint. Its the Serenity Prayer. "Accept the things you cannot change, have the courage to change the things you can, and have the wisdom to know the difference." Does that salvage Starfire getting torn in half? I love this movie for, if no other reason then it continues one of the single best instances of perfect casting *EVER* : Matt Ryan as John Constantine.
Just my opinion but I think that important characters getting killed left and right adds to the value. For me, it added to the whole "Holy shit there's nothing they can do" vibe. Kind of an outside reference but the reason these guys had to be powered down in the original Justice League show is that when you have a bunch of (And let's just be honest) OP characters who team up together, it's pretty hard to create a credible threat that makes the audience feel like the heroes are in any real danger. But this movie did a great job of giving us a credible threat where the heroes couldn't just "decide" that they wanted to start winning by pulling out their bullshit "Hah I was actually holding back bc I didn't want to hurt you" schtick. No matter what they did and no matter how many or how hard they fought, they still lost. Even in victory, they still lost. It just makes everything that happened so much more real And with a villain like Darkseid, I think it works. I think that after facing a guy like him it makes sense that things can't go back to normal because you don't go to war with a guy like that and come out unscathed. Yeah, it sucks to see loveable characters die but that's the point. That hopelessness and pain are what Darkseid wants the heroes to feel and the fact that the audience feels that too means that the movie accomplished its goal I know we all love happy endings but sometimes they don't exist and that's okay. There's always going to be more comics/tv shows/movies and I think it's totally fine to have some end on a bit of a downer. It's what makes the universe diverse and interesting so I loved it
Maybe that was what they're going for. But it's a superhero movie involving characters that can reset timelines so everything felt meaningless as soon as everybody starts dying anticlimactically. Plus, the overall movie was really average. Fight scenes were boring. Solutions are instantaneous and by chance. So many things wrong. I hope DC just stick with smaller scale plot to keep the experience more focus
Exactly. I only saw like 1 trailer for this movie & based on that alone I could tell it was the end of this animated universe (Darkseid War as it was called in the comics is what marked the end of the new 25 and went into rebirth) but it seems this guy just didnt get that at all?? Like nearly everything he’s complaining about makes perfect sense for a serious ending to a saga.
I think that all of the “edginess”, “dark moments” and “shock value” moments basically sums up the New 52 in general, which was what these movies were based off of.
Wish they would make more content like Under the Red Hood. The best of DC's animation imo along with the original animated series' made by Bruce Timm and Young Justice. Shame. That Batman voice ain't a shame tho.
That’s one of the few adaptations they did where they improved on the source material and seemed intent on telling a story with something on it’s behind that said something about Batman and not just presenting a threat to defeat.
Under the Red Hood is a great movie, even after you've watched it to death and can pick up little flaws. (Like how the brawl in crime alley somehow leads to the correct building across the street on an upper floor, in a bathroom without a door that Jason knows someone is going through the wall for the Joker reveal). I honestly wish they'd run a R-Rated Red Hood movie, Punisher Max style.
except it's not rewind time. it's ending the time line and all those versions of those heroes and creating a new time line with new versions of those heroes. something i appreciated way more than endgame where every thing that happened in infinity war was pointless except for iron man and black widow dying. even cap got a happily ever after without causing any butterfly effects.

I always felt kinda sorry for the DCEU because it's easy to see the concepts they had and understand the decisions they made, but the execution feels crowded by producer notes and studio mandate.
Honestly there's movie had some amazing things. Some stuff yes they could have done without. But by god Trigon taking over Superman and just taking a shit on Darkseid just for Superman to overpower Trigon by sheer force of will and then start beating the shit out of Darkseid again.. That was WB/DC's fault. They wanted the animated movies to tie in with the comics to cross promote and so they'd have more control over it than the animation department.

I disagree. The deaths are to give the viewer a sense of hopelessness. In most superhero films, it's clear the hero will win, but in this, you truly are hoping they'll win, making the victory even more satisfying. That's what happens when they all look at Barry Allen as he is about to travel through time, it's hope for a better tomorrow. That's what heroes are. Symbols of hope.

what makes this movie disturbing is probably because many viewers didnt expect whats coming, inlcuding me. i never expect there will so many gore content in superhero cartoon movie, if i expect it i woldnt that shocked tbh, i have read many gore manga as well and i quite like it, but this one hits different, seeing our favorite heroes dismembered is just something else lol
The scene with Superman stopping Raven from killing herself is one of my favorite scenes in DC animation.

@Sam Rogers what do you mean? Batman's reprogramming is far more effective than him being killed off. Going from the Hero whose refused to kill at every given opportunity to Darkseid's minion who kills on command and is only broken by putting Batman's son in peril, is far more impactful as a way to show he's been dealt with than killing him. Funnily enough, it was also Joker's greatest ambition, to break the bat, than to kill him.

But instead it just made the movie be a shock value fest and give beloved character unceremonious deaths just for the sake of proving how dark and gory the movie is. Sacrificing character for shock value. This proves plot armor is a necessary evil no matter how much people hate it.

The Door. This universe is based on the new 52 comic books, with rebirth happening, they did a new flashpoint so they can do new animated movies based on rebirth,
I feel like this movie should have been in two parts. Part 1 being the intro where they try to defeat Darkseid but are defeated themselves. This would have been a better way to kill off your characters one by one in battle instead of a quick freeze frame. Part 2 being the majority of the film we got.
I get that, and "kinda" agree, but then what would the first part be, really? Basically just a huge slaughter-fest. With lots of gore and stuff. And as much as I enjoy that stuff, even I couldn´t stomach an entire movie of that. And besides, you know from the start that they are going to fail. They were not thinking straight, rushing into war unprepared, with the aim to KILL. There was no way that plan succeeds. (And if it does, then we have JL that kills, and have to deal with that.)
So yes, it could have been better, but just short: "Yup, bad plan failed", is good enough for me, let´s get on with the movie.

@@mr.cranker8086 I'll try my best to defend such actions because you asking the question makes me think about the question in of itself. When I watched this movie I thought those deaths were pretty meaningful in a general sense because we literally saw those characters grow and existed for those years, so the death of them in such a way is the point. In actual wars when your friend dies you don't have the time to morn him/her. You don't get a whole scene or 5 minutes to an hour dedicated to thinking about that character's existence. You literally either try to pick up their body at that moment or run leaving them there like which happens in actual wars. Yes and No to the shock value part of it but it felt justified to me to emphasize the seriousness of those character's death. How many movies would it have taken to honor every death, how much time of the movie would it have taken to do such a thing? It literally all seem to be self-evident to me the seriousness of them fighting Darkseid.

Like, in the end, John said himself like would this life worth being lived if you had to lose so many people. These people are not normal being there for to put them down requires a swift and painful death. It's like putting a bullet in a body to make sure they are dead. As the viewer it pains us and that is the intended effect. However some people hate the flashpoint in the end cause it makes everything that happened pointless. Damien makes the best point of the whole movie. You went into a war without any killers. Their naivety was their downfall. The lesson is sometimes there isn’t a happy ending and sometimes you have to be brutal to achieve the greater good.
In fact he went easy on them. He could’ve added in the hit that they jumped to the home planet of a guy they barely managed to push through a portal, with like 10 people.

@fck peace cause warner bros did once release a animated movie in theatre's, its name was batman: mask of the phantasm, and while everybody loved it, in theatre's it made only 5.6 mil, which might be impressive for one of these movies, but for a theatrical like phantasm which had a budget of 6 mil, it couldn't break even, although it did have a success home release and the reason it underperformed at the box office was most likely due to rushed marketing due to the decision to make it theatrical being a sudden decision.
Its a shame too, since I would've loved to have seen these movies with higher budgets and better animation, plus they shelved the young justice animated movie that was also planned to release in theatre's.

After watching this film, I really wished they had more movies where the characters were developed more. I wanted to Raven and Damian's relationship bloom longer. I wanted to see more Teen Titans films. I wanted to see some of the other characters have their own solo films. There were do many storylines that weren't covered. I was actually excited to see Raven and Constantine team up even if it was for one movie but I was disappointed because I actually wanted to see something like this but as it's own movie, like Raven helping Constantine with some demonic shit. But sadly, this is the only film where I got what I wanted (the team up and Raven and Damian's relationship) even if it was for a little while. Still, there could have been so much more 😔🥺😭

To be honest this movie really, really frustrated me. I really freaking loved the DCAU. I’ve got really fond memories watching Justice League: War with my dad when it first came out, and going to watch the other movies with my friends enjoying every movie. But to have the entire universe end just like that, it sucks man. There was so much character development throughout the universe, and to just have it completely end, oof. I distinctly remember saying “what the fuck” the moment the movie ended. I mean I genuinely grew to love these characters throughout the course of these films, but to have so many of them killed off just so unceremoniously. We’ve been here from the beginning to end, it’s just a shame that it had to end like this.

@Killua was the world being literally destroyed like in Flashpoint? That was one of the main reasons for Flash to fix things, not because the world was shit but because it basically ceased to exist due to the detonation of an atomic blast apparently powerful enough to shatter the planet.
Still though, it's just one planet. An atomic bomb can't wipe out a whole universe. Paradox universes should still be traversible in the grand scheme of the multiverse. That seems to be a story element these recent DC writers can't wrap their heads around.
In the next DC universe, I want to actually see the Justice League visit the failed universe (Flashpoint, Gods & Monsters, Dark Apokalips) so they'll have a better idea of how to properly protect their world. It would be great to see some of these Elseworlds heroes (Grifter, Etrigan, vampire Batman, etc) recruited for a final confronation.

I loved this art style. The movies were awesome and I wish it continued. This ending left me empty. I wish we got more from this. This universe is so good. If they released these in theaters like regular movies it would be better than their live action counter parts.

That's why it was a perfect ending to this universe for me because it has been needlessly edgy since right after Flashpoint.
It's the perfect capturing of the overall tone of that universe (which was kinda based on the New 52, so of course it was edgy).
I for one am glad they're going back to mostly original movies or movies based on the 'quintessential' comics because they still have a few more to go and they'll probably never do most of the live action stuff as faithfully as these movies can.
The flash point was necessary, if you were in their shoes won't you do the same. Such a pyrrhic victory after losing so much just goes to show the battle was ultimately won. But at what cost. The war for humanity was lost. Constantine summed it up perfectly. Sure there will be consequences but atleast it won't be as bad at the earth losing half it cores and an estimate of another billion deaths.

I actually liked DCUA art style, its a real shame how they just killed everyone off like nothing. I get it heroes don't always win but gore killing scenes just feel empty

The massacres in this movie are just disrespectful to many of its characters. They didn't get any growth since their introductory movies before essentially being aborted. Not to mention Darkseid is an underwhelming foe without his minions.

I liked the movie, but I can agree with you on those certain points. The main problem is that they just go back in time in order to fix their problems. No matter how dark it gets or how miserable you are, you can go back and time and fix those problems, if you remember.

Duty vs love (Damian and Raven separated, because of Damians obligations to the league of shadows. Closure, or the lack of it (Constantine). Many character who complete their development, and the role of the flash... Starting a potentially horrible cycle all over again, still set in motion because he tried to save his mother back at flashpoint.

Personally, I disagree. Dick dying and Damian trying to receive him is just another example of the hero's desperation. I don't see how keeping him alive would have made a difference.

While I can see your point about how the ending doesn't really have a meaning, I kind of like it, specifically this story, that the heroes die non-heroic deaths, the ending not ending on a positive note. It reminds of Infinity War, except the it turns these heroes, it reminds us that these heroes, even though they're larger than life, they're still human just like each of us. For me I think that the message was "even the best of us can fail, and all we can do is start over." Kind of message.

That's what I loved about this movie, not my favorite but to end on a note like this is something most films wouldn't dream of doing and it's refreshing to see the studio take such a risk to show us that our heroes can lose in an instant, I'll never forget this movie.

My argument towards the stillframe complaint is the example of halo reach’s kat and jun, kat dies to a single needler round, no blaze glory, no bang nothing, just how everyone else dies, then jun is killed offscreen, so i feel the death in the crowd stuff is to reiterate that they’re still human, and will eventually die like the rest of us one way or another

@@mon_nobi I don’t think he’s being a contrarian so much as he’s viewing this film as a finale to the DCAMU rather than a stand alone like I think most people view it as.
By itself, it’s a pretty fun and ballsy ride seeing events that would normally never happen in a story.
As a finale to an entire movie universe, it’s pretty lousy way to end the story. So many characters that you may have gotten invested in get killed off in really unceremonious ways(sometimes in a single still frame), and the ending literally undoes the entire universe and makes the entire affair pointless.
As person who hated most of the animated movie universes stories, I was able to enjoy the film because I had no preexisting investment in any of them. But I can see how someone who was invested in the characters and stories would have mix feelings on this film.
And hopefully they stop recycling this animation style and use something else for once
The point of the movie was also sometimes winning comes at a cost. That’s why even when they won the earth was still going to be destroyed. I think it was fanstastic movie. Not perfect but a solid 8 out of 10

Ryan The Animator look the movie emphasizes on many things. If you follow the entire DC animated movies then you realize that in all the movies the heroes were never truly challenged. There was never a battle that made the heroes question their livelihood. This movie tells the audience that even the mighty justice league can be beaten and broken even Batman, even Superman. In this movie the bad guy won plain and simple.

Here’s hoping the writers when rebooting the series, they bring in Tim Drake and Jason Todd. Who were wrongfully cut from the series to make way for Damien to be OP. Them being completely discarded from the movies was a huge slap in the face for fans who loved them.
Dceu movies dont follow strictly with the comics. All they did was use the most current robin of the time. There was no reason to add tim and jason to sin of the batman

His origin, makes little sense. Ra's Al Ghul has better thing to do with his time then train his grandchilden, of which he's had several across the centuries. It's why he's searched for an heir of his own, instead of leaving his work to his family. Nevermind that Talia is probably one of Bruce's weakest love interests.
Getting past that. There is no way Ra's Al Ghul would tolerate someone he's training to be that impolite and outright rude to complete strangers like how Damien acts. Say nothing about how Batman lets him treat Alfred and Dick.
As far as most powerful Robin, nail on the head. He doesn't even fight like the younger Robin's who always used tricks or speed to get the job done. He, as a teenager goes toe to toe with stronger adult foes with his sword and overpowers them. It's completely unbelievable (nevermind him running roughshod over Deathstroke, Nightwing and Batman)
He has all the hallmarks of a Mary Sue. An incredible, young prodigy that is a far more capable version of an existing character, is a result of a fantasy coupling, outright outshines the protaganist during Son of Batman, Batman vs Robin and Bad Blood and hooks up with Raven because she's popular. He's someone's Mary Sue wish fulfillment fantasy.
I completely disagree with your review, literally the whole point of this movie was to be the finale of the trilogy, the fight was anticipated to be the hardest right off the bat, there's a reason we got the death of superman, it was to build up for the final assault on apokolips, we can see that the justice league indeed lost, and yet even when the justice league are in the darkest timeline, they still are holding onto the last bit of hope in order to save the remaining bit of humanity no matter the cost, the point of this movie was to realistically portray the consequences of war, no matter what outcome, there will be losses, that's why it can be considered as justice league dark, instead of regular justice league, in the end, Barry running off into the sunset to cause another flash point, ultimately, causing the timeline to reset, not in a perfect way of course but to at least help overcome the problems that apokolips caused. That's why I completely disagree with your review but what do I know, I just like the DC universe and everyone is entitled to their opinions, hope you get the chance to read this if you ever find this and I wish you good day.

Personally. It was extremely hard to see my favorite hero's die so brutally. The movie though was good and had me on the edge of my seat on exactly "how" they were coming back to take that dub. Even if it was a sad ending to me it leaves room for more later on possibly.

WB/DC basically screwed up the DC animated movie universe. They had them base it on New 52, which was abandoned by the comics, but they still had to continue it in the movies. The writers couldn't do as much of their own things since all these stories were based on comics. Second, these movies were being made more on a schedule. They had to make a certain number of movies per year. The writers had to keep to those deadlines and never got extra time for rewrites. Third and worst, they limited the budget. For 10 years, the budgets of these movies have not really increased. In fact, remember how when they first started doing these animated DC movies on a regular basis, they also released 10 minute shorts along with those movies? Those shorts were cut because WB didn't want to spend the extra money on them.
Honestly I think continuity is a great thing particularly in a show, but wouldn’t it have been interesting if the movies looked I don’t know....different from time to time.

Just my opinion but I think that important characters getting killed left and right adds to the value. For me, it added to the whole "Holy shit there's nothing they can do" vibe. Kind of an outside reference but the reason these guys had to be powered down in the original Justice League show is that when you have a bunch of (And let's just be honest) OP characters who team up together, it's pretty hard to create a credible threat that makes the audience feel like the heroes are in any real danger. But this movie did a great job of giving us a credible threat where the heroes couldn't just "decide" that they wanted to start winning by pulling out their bullshit "Hah I was actually holding back bc I didn't want to hurt you" schtick. No matter what they did and no matter how many or how hard they fought, they still lost. Even in victory, they still lost. It just makes everything that happened so much more real
And with a villain like Darkseid, I think it works. I think that after facing a guy like him it makes sense that things can't go back to normal because you don't go to war with a guy like that and come out unscathed. Yeah, it sucks to see loveable characters die but that's the point. That hopelessness and pain are what Darkseid wants the heroes to feel and the fact that the audience feels that too means that the movie accomplished its goal
I know we all love happy endings but sometimes they don't exist and that's okay. There's always going to be more comics/tv shows/movies and I think it's totally fine to have some end on a bit of a downer. It's what makes the universe diverse and interesting so I loved it
But thats dishonouring the characters we've seen we've seen them op in the universe, and now there not op just for this universe its unfair.
Maybe that was what they're going for. But it's a superhero movie involving characters that can reset timelines so everything felt meaningless as soon as everybody starts dying anticlimactically.
Plus, the overall movie was really average. Fight scenes were boring. Solutions are instantaneous and by chance. So many things wrong.
I hope DC just stick with smaller scale plot to keep the experience more focus

I only saw like 1 trailer for this movie & based on that alone I could tell it was the end of this animated universe (Darkseid War as it was called in the comics is what marked the end of the new 25 and went into rebirth) but it seems this guy just didnt get that at all?? I think that all of the “edginess”, “dark moments” and “shock value” moments basically sums up the New 52 in general, which was what these movies were based off of.
Wish they would make more content like Under the Red Hood. The best of DC's animation imo along with the original animated series' made by Bruce Timm and Young Justice. Shame.

That’s one of the few adaptations they did where they improved on the source material and seemed intent on telling a story with something on it’s behind that said something about Batman and not just presenting a threat to defeat.

Under the Red Hood is a great movie, even after you've watched it to death and can pick up little flaws. (Like how the brawl in crime alley somehow leads to the correct building across the street on an upper floor, in a bathroom without a door that Jason knows someone is going through the wall for the Joker reveal).
I honestly wish they'd run a R-Rated Red Hood movie, Punisher Max style.

That was WB/DC's fault. They wanted the animated movies to tie in with the comics to cross promote and so they'd have more control over it than the animation department.

Swamp-Thing died in this. _Swamp-Thing died._ It was at that moment I realized this movie was willing to throw out things like logic to rack up the body count. Any comic fan knows how utterly impossible such a thing like Swamp-Thing dying is.
Pretty sure when Destiny ripped Holland's corpse from Swamp Thing in Justice League Dark he wasn't supposed to return.
