Today's January 14th 2020 22 I just saw the Martin bare band last night. It was really fantastic, like seeing early Jethro Tull, Maybe even better. If he even comes anywhere near where you are, and you can go see this band live, do not miss them. It will be a concert you will never forget I can't say enough to express how good this band is. you've just got to see them to believe it. TH-cam just doesn't even come close to doing them Justice.

Good old Martin. Seems such a decent, humble bloke. Followed the twists and turns of Anderson's muse - joined a blues band, then found he had to turn his hand to all manner of things, which he did with great aplomb. A vital ingredient to Tull's success.
The critical thing about the Martin Barre Band is it is not Jethro Tull, it is the Martin Barre Band, Martin and three excellent musicians having fun, doing what they want to do. If you want a Jethro Tull covers band, then go watch Tull, they even have a vocalist that sounds a bit like Ian Anderson.
Martin has lost nothing and Tull today is nothing more than Ian's solo band without him. I hope you're out there Martin for another five years at least. 👏
I just saw The Martin Barre Band live in Orlando at The Plaza Live and wow did they bring the fire !!! The band really rocks hard and the way they play the Tull material is phenomenal to say the least. I highly recommend seeing them live if at all possible!! The rapport that Martin has with the audience is fantastic !!
Fantastic. Martin Barre was certainly the main part of the Tull sound and the main source of the harmonic content. His skill is completely undiminished, as great as it always was, totally natural, as though the guitar were part of his body. Wonderful to listen to and watch. Gives me chills. As a keyboard player, I think the one thing missing from this band is a good keyboard player. The organ always provided the counterpoint or backdrop to Martin's sound, like left and right hands. To me, it's conspicuously missing. If I were younger, I would volunteer. Hah.

Martin's ever the improviser on the guitar, particularly on TAAB. I always quite like to listen to the slight changes in the riffs over time. It keeps the listening experience interesting.
Just read that martin Barre was NOT invited to JT's 2017, 50th anniversary tour??? WTF? What a slap in the face to the man who was every bit as responsible for the JT sound as Anderson was. Without Martin Barre, JT would have been sentenced to obscurity and has been status. One just has to watch and listen to this piece and see the enormous talent Barre encompasses. IA, another icon with feet of clay......
Very disappointed on was what Ian Anderson as a person . I had a recording I think from Capital Radio sometime in the 1990s when Ian and Martin were interviewed on a live phone in show to which I called. Ian said that he would not be able to go on if he were without Martin. Turns out even Martin was disposable but what we get now is dross.
Well tasty band Martin has here and what a super show. Equally as good as what Anderson is doing himself these days and very entertaining and enjoyable stuff. Super post chap and I will certainly be looking into Mr. Barres stuff for sure. This totally Rocked.

23:40: First I thought he might be talking about Ian (yikes!!)--but it must be Terry Ellis he's referring to...if indeed he is referring to a specific individual...
Mr.Barre, is 1 of best never got Recognized by mainstream media n music industry! Tull fans know Better! I.A. personal angst by himself! Not Tull no Mo! R.W.396
I played a '76 Les Paul Deluxe for decades, but when my old drummer let me play his PRS MvCartey model in 2005, I was blown away by the tonal range and the action!
Miss the sound of the Hammer or the Les Paul... not as beefy... thinner sounding... could just be the mix. Damn nice to see Martin the original still owning these songs though :-)
Ian Anderson, in interview, once said that "without Martin, there would be no Jethro Tull" How true -now that Ian's voice has gone, he would have been wise to "keep" Martin, at all costs because Martin is just as much the sound of Tull as Ian is - as this set shows, VERY CLEARLY. This vocalist doesn't sound like Ian - because he isn't Ian - but he does a bloody good job, on the Tull numbers and sings them better than Ian can NOW. The thing is Ian just doesn't sound like like Ian anymore! EAT HUMBLE PIE IAN - YOU NEED THE OLD BAND - BUT YOU "REALLY" NEED MARTIN!!!!
I last saw IA during the last swing of what was called Jethro Tull: IA, MB, Perry, Goodier, O'Hara in Springfield IL. I could barely make out his failing voice. His flute playing was fine with an occasional one legged stand. I was struck by how many songs had to be transposed into a singable (?) key. Martin Barre was phenomenal and brought the house down on Locomotive Breath. Perry was tight and precise on drums. The new boys O"Hara and Goodier were adequate replacements but boring compared to Jonathan Noyce and Andrew Giddings. After purchasing TAAB2 I was not impressed to spend $70 to see the TAAB1 and TAAB2 tour. HE was so bad I didn't even purchase it. I appreciate that Ian still has energy to record what he wants and perform with whomever he wants. His flute is still a rock n roll instrument. But the interplay between IA and Martin Barre is sorely missed.
+Chris Hale Do you have perfect pitch or something ... who cares about what key a song is it, the relationship between the notes are the same. The only reason to care about key is if you are going to play along with an instrument that is tuned to a key that makes it hard to play in a given song, then you transpose it. I agree with you that the albums are still very good. I am recently relistening to TAAB2, and I find I really like it much more than I did when it came out. It is really a great album. Originally I thought it was kind of clumsy and derivative from his other stuff ... with snippets of TAAB. I saw the Homo Erraticus tour last year, and it was pretty good, with the normal comments. Florian is like half of a Martin Barre ... what he can't play he just kind of guitar-mumbles through. The arrangements have been simplified ... but it is hard to blame the players, as other musicians have said, Jethro Tull is complex music and it is hard to know every song of the hundreds that IA has composed. Doane was a superb drummer. I remember seeing the Divinities concert, and there was never a better concert musically, they got every single note right, and Doane's drumming was just perfect. To me at least Martin still looks very healthy, but Ian is overweight and appears kind of sickly. Someone posted something somewhere who said he knew someone who traveled with the band and that Ian is a really sickly person - that he got sick or was sick through practically every tour. Ian should take up vegetarianism and get some exercise, I really hope he is around for a very long time. I don't think I could knowing that there would be no more Tull or IA. For the albums, I don't think it matters who plays, because I think it is all arranged by Ian with Ian's perfectionistic tastefulness, but in the interpretations of older songs in concert, it is a jumble that I don't particularly care for any longer, but I occasionally see because it's fun to hear the new pieces, or slight rearrangements of old songs.
@@qdaveq6597 Key means the basic root frequency, I think you are talking about scale, such as major, minor, and different modes. Key simply means playing everything some number of half steps or whole steps up or down.
@@justgivemethetruth I understand your point, but I am referring to key. A tone or semitone may not be particularly noticeable especially in a live setting, but beyond that key can make a big difference. This could be to do with the timbre of the instruments, or that certain songs just seem to suit particular keys. As an example, to accommodate a singer's range, I used to play Disco Inferno (I know...) in G rather than C - the whole character of the song changed. There are some interesting theories about the inherent character of particular keys - for example, some say that E major is particularly bright and lively, whereas D major is more solid and stern. A little abstract perhaps, but I think there's something in it.
@@qdaveq6597 >> As an example, to accommodate a singer's range, I used to play Disco Inferno (I know...) in G rather than C - the whole character of the song changed. I think that is your subjective illusion.
I think it is sad to oppose Martin and Ian, more that they want (not my busimess anyway, don't have to choose one side or the other in a "marriage" that worked for so long...). I like them both, and the re-interpretation of JT they make...
Not feeling the singer - no I'm loathing the singer. That's just my own grumpiness. But Martin is Martin. He is a beast on guitar. Anything with him playing on it is worth hearing.
Hmmm- The significance with Anderson is that you never get his stuff out of your head- weather it´s new or old material- Keep´s on popping up in the head all the time; and can´t stop it- Nevertheless, Doane deserves a lot of credit, and Martin is the greatest :0)
Unfortunately Ian comes off as the "bad guy" during this whole debacle. Ian's been ditching musicians his whole career when they don't serve his purposes anymore...he did it to Glenn Cornick, he did it to John Evan, he did it to John Glascock, and finally he did it to Martin Barre and Doane Perry. Don't get me wrong, Ian is one of my favorite musicians of all time and I am grateful for all of his great music over the years, but he kind of comes off as a bit prickish and egotistical, like he always has to pull rank and prove that Tull is his band and he can do whatever he wants with it. Maybe he can, but it makes him look bad.
Martin is just as great as ever. Drums are thin. Vocalist hits the notes with a bit of spirit but nothing even close to Ian - the phrasing for one thing - and the natural impishness that is so unique to Anderson for another. And I miss that flute - not the same without. Yeah I know, music is re-invented over the course of time. Still. Flute. Just saying. The Moody Blues aren't the same without Ray either. Debating on going to see the band in Denver on 9/9/17...probably won't...I have such grand memories of dozens of their shows in their golden age...I think I'd rather keep those close to my heart and unspoiled. All the same, glad Martin is playing and playing so well.

Amazing guiraris mr martin
Looking forward to MB on Cruise to the Edge.
23:40: First I thought he might be talking about Ian (yikes!!)--but it must be Terry Ellis he's referring to...if indeed he is referring to a specific individual...
I have a Jethro Tull T shirt. Look for me at Moe's Alley on Sept.3 , 2017. Santa Cruz, California. Flutist Jan.
Mr.Barre, is 1 of best never got Recognized by mainstream media n music industry! Tull fans know Better! I.A. personal angst by himself! Not Tull no Mo! R.W.396
Wow.
This says everything I need to know about Paul Reed Smith guitars....................😶
I played a '76 Les Paul Deluxe for decades, but when my old drummer let me play his PRS MvCartey model in 2005, I was blown away by the tonal range and the action!
This is the shit........glad to know our old bands keep the flame lit........😶.......A PLUS.
For a moment there I thought that was Andy Kaufman on vocals!
Sounds like Tiny Tim.
Ya... Ian anderson is a fantastic talent, But Martin barre was the icing on the cake!!
Wow
Marty's PRS sounds very nice.
Miss the sound of the Hammer or the Les Paul... not as beefy... thinner sounding... could just be the mix. Damn nice to see Martin the original still owning these songs though :-)
Hey Ian..look who kicks Ass...Ol Marty
Thanks Remy! Kudos! They are coming to my town! 1mile from my home! Awesome! 4/22/16
PS practice off the original vynals still have them .lol
kiitos teve H.A
Ian Anderson, in interview, once said that "without Martin, there would be no Jethro Tull"
How true -now that Ian's voice has gone, he would have been wise to "keep" Martin, at all costs because Martin is just as much the sound of Tull as Ian is - as this set shows, VERY CLEARLY.
Ian eterno!!!!
Dan Crisp has an amazing voice!
Lord-they found a guy who sounds much like Ian Anderson.
Are you freakin kidding. Tiny Tim is terrible!!!
He sounds nothing like Ian, more like Peter Gabriel. I don't find his singing voice nice to listen to.
veri good !!

Do you have perfect pitch or something ... who cares about what key a song is it, the relationship between the notes are the same.
@@justgivemethetruth Different keys can have a significant effect on the character of a song.

Key means the basic root frequency, I think you are talking about scale, such as major, minor, and different modes.

Martin's Band kicks Ian's folk band...still Rock's NOW
Top band!
They blow away fake tull with no Martin and no Doane
Hmmm- The significance with Anderson is that you never get his stuff out of your head- weather it´s new or old material- Keep´s on popping up in the head all the time; and can´t stop it-
Nevertheless, Doane deserves a lot of credit, and Martin is the greatest :0)
Nice to see Martin finally got a haircut, doesn't look like Krusty the Clown any more.
Superb performance from a superb 'real' band,Ian's band are crap in comparison
Dan Crisp? Just wait a minute... This guy can sing anything nicely!
With all due respect to Mr.Anderson.
Dan Crisp makes Ian sound like he has strep throat.
jerry hardage not in Ian’s prime. This guy is average.
This ain't half bad...
great tallents should create thier own sound
Where did he find that "singer "?
Devon.
John Cleese on vocals :)
The singer sounds as close as can be to Anderson
Not keen on the vocalist but doing a better job than Ian at the mo.
