- What Martin Said.....
‘’My God - One of our best songs in the set
Because we re-arranged it, it feels different.
We put a new middle section in where the flute solo was.
We do Palladio by Carl Jenkins
Absolutely seamless - it works so good’’

Martin is the most underrated guitarist in history.
Who said so?
@@transformer889 I did.
once more it becomes obvious, what an unmeasuring influence Martin Barre had on the Music of Jethro Tull ! Not only being a supreme Guitar Master who doesn't need no fancy shreds and high speed bragging is he a melodic Monster who's riffs and licks are absolutely demanding and an excellent Songwriter! May he be playing on forever!
Hear, hear !
Alan Thomson is such a savage bass player man. Absolutely phenomenal. Lovely L2500 tone too. Guy is flawless
Why am I surprised at how tight this band is?! I should have expected this level of musicianship.
I’ve been a Tull fan since I first heard Benefit. I’ve seen them 9 times. But I refused to see them anymore since Ian sacked Martin. Now, with this young man singing, Martin as incredible as ever AND Clive Bunker on skins, this is the REAL Jethro Tull. And thank you for playing Teacher. I never got to hear it live. Fantastic job to all.
As I read it Andersen broke up JT. Martin said it in an interview that he Ian and Doan Perry were on tour and he dropped the bomb. That was in 2011 and there was no Jethro Tull after the tour...at least not for the next 11 years when Andersen revived it and released Zealot Gene in 2022. It wasn't like Martin was kicked out and the band continued on without him.. Nobody continued on... at least not for another decade.
@@nicke.3782 😢
Funny though... Ian wrote 80 % pf the the songs Martin plays in concert.... that's never mentioned. Ian continues to write and play new Tull Music, but I'm glad you got it worked out.
@@jermaschinot Ian was certainly the major songwriter,r but what would that 80% sound like without Barre's guitar work. It's not always the words. Sometimes it's a driving bass line or catchy riff or some killer drum intro. It's rarely just one guy.
@@nicke.3782 agree, But to expand on my point a little, at his concerts, Martin plays 80% of Ians songs with Ian's blessing. And within ian's songs, Ian wrote the lyric, the bulk of the musical idea, and also all the flute, most of the acoustic, All the singing and more. Martin played the guitar. (wonderfully, of course, I love Martin and his great contributions). You're not dissing Ian, I get that, but lot's of folks in Tull world take savage sides against Ian. Just trying to afford more perspective .
Love that Martin is out there doing his version of Tull classics.Martin is playing better than ever with lots of fire. He's got an excellent band behind him with and exceptional bassist in Alan Thomson who's admirably filling the shoes of the great bassists who played in Jethro Tull before him.
Wow, this band is so tight. Martin's guitar sound is awesome. The vocalist is top notch. All the members are stellar.
I saw Ian Anderson last summer. Ian's band was not this tight. I enjoyed the show as the audience and energy was good. Ian's vocals are lacking.
Second Law of Thermodynamics says that entropy always increases with time! Entropy -- Age gets to us all @@VanVlymen
Love this Martin !! Your singer nailed it !!! Ian is no doubt smiling somewhere !!!
The band's energy is absolutely contagious! They are truly believing in their music and living it.
Great review
This drummer is FANSTIC!!!!
Just as Steve Hackett continues the spirit of Genesis with his band, so does Martin Barre with his Tull band. Bravo!!!👏 👏
I was thinking the same thing!
This is amazingly good. Martin is still superb and the vocalist is just incredible. 45 year Tull fan.
I saw Jethro Tull for the first time in April of 1972 (Aqualung & Thick as a Brick set list). So great to hear Martin with his own band. He’s still as amazing as ever.
Let's hear it for the bass player 😎!
He's happening; holding it down; playing lines in unison with the guitars 🎸 with a little lead bass thrown in.
Progressive rock at its best 👌
Alan Thomson is a killer player.Great tone also.
Never miss a Martin Barre show. Glad he tours fairly regularly.
Guys sound great. Martin is a good as he has ever been. Good to see Clive play some. Dan does a hell of a job on the Ian Anderson parts.
From a Tull fan since 50 years: absolutely wonderful. Martin is still as good as ever, the band is very professional, the arrangements are just beautiful. This not just a cover band doing Jethro Tull songs, they make their own rendition. Personally, I liked Love Story a lot better than the original, for instance, and there is much more to like. The singer is a pleasant surprise. Thanks!
I’m.a Ramones style punk rocker but this is FANTASTIC ‼️🎸🎶🔥🎼
This band is formidable. Martin and Bunker keep the hard edge alive. Fantastic show!
Martin Barre is not my favourite guitarist for nothing ! What a band ! What a concert !
How True - The Band are so 'tight'. A great set.
Okay, I finally watched this from start to finish in one sitting. THANK YOU Rob Gray for posting. Excellent “guitar-band” renditions of some great Tull material. Outstanding.
Great band, amazing bassist, singer, drummer and of course, martin.
Oh wow! Look what I found! What a treat. Martin Barre has been on my A list for a long time. Nice to see he has put together such an excellent show. Great stuff.
Went to my first Tull concert in ‘73. So happy to see Martin, Clive and co continue the JT legacy with passion and authenticity. Now our grandkids can enjoy it too! And what an ending with Teacher!
This is the first time that I have seen a Martin Barre Band concert. It will live long in my memory as one of the best concerts I have ever seen. Martin just gets better and better , and the rest of the band are brilliant musicians. Took me a while to like Dan's singing...but he has grown on me.
What hasn't grown on me is Dan's blatant mimicking of Ian Anderson's mannerisms and expressions. To me it makes the band unwatchable.
@@c.a.t.732 Exactly. But still watchable.
@@c.a.t.732 Of course the band is fantastic, but I disagree with your comment on Dan Crisp. 1st off his singing is great and I think he does his own type, and own style of singing, and I don't see any attempt to imitate Ian Anderson's physical mannerisms. I think what he does is just his natural reactions and feelings, but I understand a lot of people really just want to hear Ian Anderson. but I actually like this Better, not better than the old original Ian Anderson, but much better than the current Ian Anderson.
@@williambaldridge1203 In numerous videos I've seen Crisp seems to be "doing" Anderson, whether bugging his eyes or doing hand gestures or facial expressions typical of the fellow who actually wrote those songs. Others have commented on that as well. As to his voice, it's certainly in better shape than Mr. Anderson's, sadly.
@@c.a.t.732 You know it's possible, maybe, once in a while he might do a slight tribute to Ian with the movements, but I really don't agree with your assessment, because I've seen him perform live and on various videos of them doing the songs, and I think hes pretty much unique to himself. I think it's a testimony to Martin Barre's genius that He picked a guy who had a unique voice, and Crisp does have a very unique voice. Just like Ian Anderson did. I think Martin realized he didn't need someone who sounded just like Ian, he needed a good singer with a unique type of voice, and that's what he got. I think he's a long way from doing Ian's hand gestures, maybe some of old Ian's gestures, but if you saw Ian Anderson through the seventies and early eighties, then I don't see how you could possibly think that Crisp was imitating Ian Anderson. I think you could watch almost any singer, singing any song, and you'll see some of those similar type hand movements, and you just can't imitate Ian's eyes bugging out, that's Unique. either you have eyes that bug out like that, or you don't, and crisp doesn't. I'm just saying, be fair, judge the guy on his abilities don't try to continuously compare him to Ian Anderson, because no one is gonna be Ian Anderson. He's unique, and there will never be another, but so is Dan Crisp, there will never be another one of him. either.
Wow. Surprisingly awesome. Martin is on fire. The bass is awesome. Love the singer guitarist .Martin was a huge part of Tull. Loving his versions of Tull classics. I kept thinking dynamic . I saw Tull about 5 times Martin always delivered. Glad I got over my misconceptions and watched/ listened to this. Awesome job Martin and co.
THANKS TO MARTIN BARRE AND OLD JETHRO TULL AMONG MANY YEARS :o) THANKS FROM NORWAY.
Just came here after watch an Ian video, was a bit upset. Then Martin blew my socks off as usual, such a talent.
I'm really enjoying their live performances on TH-cam and will automatically go to any shows near Indianapolis if they come state side. Martin Barre's Band is awesome, including the vocals!!! Love the version of Fat Man!
The first time I saw Jethro Tull was 1971. The last time was 2016. This is amazing. Dan Crisp does a great job. Please come to Canada.
What a great band, and I really like that singer. 👍🎯
I don't mean any offense to anyone, especially Ian Anderson, but these guys are the new Jethro Tull.
I just hope Ian has the breath to continue his singing and his flute playing. I did see a concert with them in it on TV, but he had a much younger singer with them, however,
@@jnadle1 I saw Anderson in concert last Autumn, Brighton Dome. Sad to say, imo his voice is just too weak for live performances. Enjoyed it of course, but nothing like the gigs of the past.
The Ian Anderson ego destroyed himself, the Ian Anderson band is a shame , the Martin Barre band is more Jethro Tull sound than Ian is doing . Is still amazing how Marin play the guitar and it is demonstration that Jethro Tull without M Barre never will be Jethro Tull
@@javierllerena5756 -- PERFECTLY Said !👍👍
Yep
Saw the band on Thurs. In Ft.Lauderdale they are fantastic Dan Crisp on vocals and the duel guitar attack akin to Wishbone Ash or the Allmans just a spectacular band!
What a show !!!! Those folks sure got more than their moneys worth that night . Martin & Clive like Robin Trower & Dave Mason have lost nothing in thier ability to move an audience to take that trip back when they were young & Tull & them were a force to be reckoned with. Stunning performance by everyone giving it all they got & they got a lot. Takes me back to the days when we didn't have a care in the world but get stoned ,play music , go to great shows & spin the records that made Martin & the old JT one of the best of our generation. Totally Awesome fun !!!!
Youre right - A cracking show.
It is really good that Martin has quit Jethro Tull and has his own band. They are really good. I have seen them two times and both shows were phantastic. Thank you Martin Barre that you still play and enjoy people.
Unfortunately he didn't quit, but was sacked by Ian. Ian's loss...
Damn this is awesome!! This man is 76 years old and he's playing with the energy and fury of someone in their early twenties. Jeez his tone is fantastic, and a great band here too.
Hello Jeff, Just like Robin Trower & Dave Mason Martin & Clive have lost nothing they just get better & better . Yea i may be right behind them in age by 10 years or so but it just goes to show if your good & you don't stop playing your musicality remains . I have been playing since i first began in 68 & i's like to think i still got it . What a fine show but it is what you would expect from such talents. If you have some time i would like to share one of my own tunes i wrote in 74 & finally recorded on an old 4 track reel to reel in 87 with friends from my school days in the 70s. Martin was one of many influences & to see him still crushing it is a joy, plus what a band he's put together & a guest such as the legendary Clive Bunker makes it even better. Please feel free to leave me a comment if you wish but leave it on my post not back here. Your comment is spot on here. As i don't sing my composition is an instrumental one. Keep on Rockin !!! th-cam.com/video/RHj04fFTrZI/w-d-xo.html
Amazing. A flautist would've been nice, but how do you replace Ian Anderson. I saw the full band in Toronto back in the early 80's. I'm just about to buy tickets for an upcoming show in my home town.
I saw Robin Trower in Buffalo in 2019. I think he was 74 at the time. I used to listen to "Bridge of Sighs" album with headphones back in '78....and at 74 yrs old he was also bang on. Note for note, inflection for inflection. Much respect for all of these great players that keep on keeping on. Here's Robin: th-cam.com/video/cE1sQtqkIAQ/w-d-xo.html&start_radio=1&rv=cE1sQtqkIAQ&t=2004
Unlike Jimmy Page, Martin hasn’t lost his 6 string magic guitar 🎸 🪄
Totally agree. You should see him live. Saw him three times in the last few years. Just amazing.
Excellent thank you Martin
Glad you enjoyed it
Congratulations Martin Barre thank you very much
I’m gonna be an old Tull groupie for Halloween!
Will see this group in a well-known, small-town venue (seats 400), then at an even more intimate venue for an acoustic show with the 3 frontmen and guest percussionist two days later on Halloween! Life is good!
Absolutely brilliant version of Love Song from This Was. Martin’s arrangement talents are thriving!
I'm glad Martin is still rockin'. 🎸
This was worth watching. ✔
🥁
Tremendous! All songs now have new life and suddenly Tull is alive again. Sorry , Ian, but this is alive and vital and Martin carries the torch!
Wow, so uplifting to hear these tunes done live and right for a change. There are so many great Tull tunes that deserve this type of treatment. Hats off to Martin and everyone else in the band for breathing life back into this music.
Ain t easy singing Ian s lines, but singer sounds good, ... Clive Bunker wow still around, great job, great band .... Martin is as good as ever ...
Martin certainly knows how to surround himself with top notch talent!!! These guys play so well together!! I only hope that I'm able to see him live some day.
well sumarised. He's surrounded by talent and inspiration. The Two Angels & Clive too when they join the party. No wonder the touring to Martin is so appealing.
Man oh man, their version of slip stream and wondering aloud, and, On Preston Platform were just fantastic
absolutely agree
Fanbloodytastic!! So near perfect !!!! ❤❤
Very enjoyable. Best live "Aqualung" I've seen since the '70s!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Awesome renditions of these classic Tull songs.
Son memorables el espíritu auténtico de Jethro Tull, está en Martin Barre Band .Gracias, sois muy grandes!!
I was at Festival Hall, Melbourne, Australia on July 7, 1972 for their OZ tour. Great stuff.
I’ve loved Jethro Tull since i heard Benefit , I named my 1972 Martin D35 , ‘ Mawtin ‘ after Martin Barr
Absolutely LOVED this show! So sorry I couldn't make it that night...CHEERS!
Thanks
Oh great!! I'll be seeing this gig in London soon. What a start - Hunting Girl, when I heard it the first time in the 1970's MB guitaring just blew me away. A new Day...just cannot wait
Thanks for posting this fabulous performance, Rob. I'm only half way through, and I'm using the intermission to share my thanks and some comments. I've always thought that Martin was vastly underappreciated for his skill on guitar and he proves it here. More talent gone unappreciated is his judge of talent and his leadership skills, both proven here. Not only has his guitar playing stood the test of time, but his humor, on display here, has also. I'm so glad I saw this in the queue, and now, back to the show. L207C61V10193/:-)
Thanks for your kind words. With the Canada Tour about to start in Ontario on 28th & 29th June I cant wait to see more of the energy from the band

I caught their 40th Anniversary Tour of Aqualung, in 2011;
First Set:
Living in the Past
Beggar's Farm
Thick as a Brick
Up to Me
Cheap Day Return
Mother Goose
Wond'ring Aloud
Farm on the Freeway
Bourrée in E minor
(Johann Sebastian Bach cover) (Jethro Tull's "Bourée" arrangement)
Second Set:
Songs From the Wood
Hymn 43
Cross-Eyed Mary
My God
Budapest
Aqualung
Encore:
Locomotive Breath
(with "Teacher" instrumental snippet)
A joy from start to end. I saw Martin and his band 4 years ago at a festival here in the UK, when they had Clive and Dee Palmer guesting and two girl singers who did a wonderful job of some of the acoustic songs. That was great, but this is probably even better. Loved the take on "Love Story" and the "Thick as a Brick" excerpt that closed the first half was wonderful.
That new version of My God is superb, quickly followed by Hymn 43. First saw Tull 50 years ago!!! but agree with others that Martin keeps that original sound. Fantastic and Dan does a great job. I don't miss the flute at all.
glad you liked it. There are 55 other concert tour tracks on my playlist - ENJOY.
The part from Thick as a Brick (begins 33:46) is absolutely outstanding! Barre’s guitar … wow.
very enjoyable gig, nice to see Clive on drums again, hoping to see them this summer.
Glad you liked it - I cant wait to see what comes when they get the Canada leg underway!!

Great playing, one of the best band in the world
agreeable to that!!
Saw them in Oakville, Ontario about 2 weeks ago. Going again tonight. Incredible band! They come across as being grateful that the audience is there and want to put on the best show possible. Martin and the band looked like they were having as much fun as the audience!
Dare I say it? I think I'd rather see this than a current Tull show. Ian's voice has long ago left the building, and this is coming from a 50-year fan of JT. Martin has put together a fine band, and I didn't recognize Clive Bunker until I read another post. I never gave a thought to seeing this tour when it was in my area a few months ago, but I won't miss it next year when they return.
Its not Bunker, it is the equally impressive Darby Todd.
@@kevwoods5851 Drummer on the left is Clive Bunker.
This is great stuff, like seeing a long-lost old friend. If Steve Hackett can tour with his band and do old Genesis, why can't Martin do the same for Tull? Love it!
This is So Badass 💯🔥
Impresionante como suena esta Banda . Y Martin Barre uno de los mejores guitarristas que existen sin dudas . que bueno revivir y volver a escuchar esas canciones que han sido grandes compañeras de estudio en mi adolescencia . Always impressive to watch, so good also to see Clive up there too
If the MBB is touring in your area, go and see them. Powerful display of talent. Worth every penny.
Thank you for posting this show Rob! Yey for Martin!
Tull has been my favorite band since I first heard Benefit. I’ve seen Tull 9 times, but won’t go anymore since Ian sacked Martin. Now I have to say, with Ian’s faltered voice, THIS is Jethro Tull. Great job to Martin and this band. And cudos to the singer excellent job.
👏👏👏
I enjoyed that!!
Just incredible. Eyes popping right out of my head.
What an awesome show and the Sellersville Theater is a great venue.
I saw Martin in Oakville, Ontario last week. Easily the best concert I have seen out of the 120+ different bands. The musicianship was phenomenal. The performance was dynamic and completely fresh. His band is A1. Martin is playing better than when I used to see him with Tull 50 years ago. One last point. The band plays as if they are enjoying themselves. They definitely are not going through the motions. In my opinion, a perfect concert!
Watching the concert now, and I'm going to see him tonight in St.Catharines at the PAC...a beautiful concert venue.....Front Row, Seat 18....yippee....:)
@MrJeffhamilton48 So, what did you think of the show? Amazing, wasn’t it? I am going to see them again in Brampton tomorrow night!
@@davidbrown5152 Very enjoyable, as I was entering the Concert Hall, drummer Darby Todd was just arriving too and he held the door for me...after getting my ticket scanned I walked over to where they are selling T-shirts and CDs and there is Darby....we had a brief chat and he told me about the CD that he had made whilst waiting for Covid to go away, so I purchased one of his CDs... both CDs of Martin Barre and a Tour T-shirt for my adult son. :) The concert was excellent, Clive played great and really seemed to enjoy himself up there...excellent players, it was fun to sit so close and watch them perform ! @@MrJeffhamilton48 Sounds like you had a great evening! And you got to hobnob with the talent. I saw Dan Crisp, wandering before the last show but was too embarrassed to say anything! Lol
When you bought your merchandise did you have a pretty, older lady serve you? I found out she is Martin Barre’s wife. Keep it in the family!
I am off tonight to see the show in Brampton. I have 3rd row Centre seats. Not as good as you, though. Good enough to see Martin’s fret work. I play guitar (I’m a three chord wonder) and love seeing how the Tull songs are supposed to be played. I will never be able to come close in this lifetime! At least I know the opening riff to Aqualung!
Thank’s for chatting. If I get invited on stage, I’ll let you know! Lol

Its Amazing When Anyone Has Good Intentions.. Genuine Heart Motivations.. Then Lives Out The Plan.. The Results Are Outstanding.. Thank You Martin Barre For Staying The Course.. PS..
WOW! Totally enjoyed this. I got here, just dropped the cursor, and it landed on New Day Yesterday. I was impressed! Sounded great. Martin has a tight band. Glad to see him still rocking in 2022. A big inspiration to me. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Two of the Original Jethro Tull members, bravo for C Bunker and M Barre , I would suggest Martin to join A Giddings to his band .
That really would be something if Andy Giddings were to also contribute
@@RobGrayWetherby
Also D Perry or Barriemore Barlow along with C Bunker, two drummers are ok specially if they were Jethro Tull
Holy cow! Maybe it is good that Ian cut Martin Barre? Now we have two Tulls! Martin's version of Jethro Tull is a ridiculously talented, absolutely searing rock band. Their musicianship on stage is unparalleled and the 'updated' arrangements of classic Tull tunes are fabulous, and so are Martin's own compositions.
On the other, we have Ian who is focusing on the more acoustic and 'lighter' arrangements these days, and that's his thing.
I love both of them, but personally, I prefer the work Martin is doing these days 😀 to each their own...
Love Ian Anderson - but he can no longer sing live. Oh he tries, but it's truly painful to watch.
Team Barre since 2014. FTW.
Great but can’t forget Ian wrote all of these songs with imput of course , but this just demonstrates what a prolific talent he is- approaching if not genius.
Legends... Bravo - absolutely rocked it, much love. Cherished memories of the 2 JT concerts I saw in Denver at McNichols Arena in the 70's.

This rather takes us back to the early seventies when Jethro Tull was one of the best bands in the world with great pin sharp live performance. I’m my estimation Martin Barre was largely responsible for that. But here, given free rein, he creates a refreshing interpretation of those songs .I gave up with Tull some years ago, but I’d definitely turn out for this.

I'm not a big Jethro Tull fan, but based on what I've seen here on TH-cam, I'd much rather see this band live than the current incarnation of Jethro Tull, and it's not even close. This is a real band. Martin's playing is as good as it ever was, if not better. He looks great for his age. The same cannot be said for Ian Anderson and his singing, unfortunately.
The current incarnation of Tull is a shell of what Jethro Tull was.
Sure. They're playing someone else's music
Glad you’re still playing in Tull Martin. Er I mean the new improved Tull I mean.
Wow. Super tight and very interesting
I feel this band more vital than actual JT... And not aping Anderson's vocal style and flute is a very good move too
Saw JT in Dallas on Halloween 1980 at Reunion Arena, the ‘A’ tour. Long time ago. Not as long ago as some of the others who have commented here. Fan for fifty years.
Sounds great!!
