    Adam shows off two sets of tools that helps him fast: a hex shank adapter that connects his drill/driver to any socket in your standard socket set, and hex drivers that fit any imperial or metric hex bolts. Combined with any standard driver/drill, these are essential for tasks like putting together flat packed furniture!

      Did Milwaukee sponsor this? I thought that unless included, using these with manual sockets voids the manufacturer warranty, if you care about such things.

      Dave B impact sockets are made for this very thing. If you crack a standard socket by using your drill or impact driver the torque is set way to high or you have junk sockets. Just keep the drill or impact on low and drive away.

    I work at Home Depot as a merchandising associate. The company ALWAYS sends us fixtures and shelving units to build with hex bolts and carriage bolts and they ALL have nylon lock nuts. These driver adapters are THE BEST THING EVER MADE!!!!!!!!! So much time savings!! If you have ever had to install a what we call a flex wall ( go down the hardware isle some time and look at the gray walls that the product is hanging from) they are heavy and an absolute pain to install. They are secured to the shelving with lock nuts and hex bolts and having an impact driver with this setup is so amazing ^_^!!!! Thankyou for singing the praises of this tool Adam ^_^

    I’m sure I won’t be the only one to say this but generally you DO NOT want to put chrome (non impact rated) sockets on the end of an impact driver. You will run the risk of cracking that socket. Getting an impact rated socket set would be the best for the job especially as you get to larger impacts.

    • @ryanroberts1104
      @ryanroberts1104 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Never owned an impact socket, but use the driver all the time. Including a half inch impact. All my normal sockets work just fine. Not once has one broken. In fact, I wore out the impact driver and had to have it replaced under warranty...but not the sockets. "Impact sockets" are a fantastic way to sell you a second set of sockets you already have in a different color....

    • @PetrolJunkie
      @PetrolJunkie 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@ryanroberts1104 I've cracked sockets using a breaker bar by hand taking lug nuts off a car. I've cracked sockets using a battery powered impact. It pays to get the right type of socket. The impact rated sockets are made of a different alloy mix and are much stronger. And no, I don't buy cheap sockets. The ones I cracked where off a tool truck and they warrantied them. A broken socket doesn't take nuts off, I'd rather spend a bit more and had a tool that just works.

      It depends on the driver and its max torque output. While you may be correct in regards to high-torque air impacts like those used by auto mechanics for lug nuts, compensator sprocket nuts, etc., using an electric drill or even low-torque electric impact (the ones that typically look like overly beefy socket wrenches with a squeeze trigger) with normal sockets is usually fine so long as you don't buy the cheap knock-off of a knock-off crap.

      It's actually a "ratcheting socket wrench." The problem is you still need to move it back and forth by hand. I think Adam's point is these adapters let you use a motorized driver instead.

    one to add to your 1/4" hex rack - McMaster-Carr PN 5750A98 - Tight Access Phillips Bit
    Doesn't sounds exciting, but it's a #2 Phillips that can reach into some amazingly tight spots. Holds up very well, seems to be hardened.

    Good idea, I did not know you could by a drill to socket adapter, I made my own years ago. I cut the end of a 3 inch socket extension, squared the last half inch off a bit in a grinder so it would not slip in the drill chuck. Then the squared end goes in the drill and the other in into your socket of choice. Done.

    Was introduced to these at the bike shop. They are awesome for putting on disc brake rotor bolts and then quickly swapping the bit off the drill onto the torque wrench and tightening them down to final torque spec. Super quick!

    I'm a left arm amputee, and I've been using this method for the last 40 years. The only difference is that I use a vice grips instead of a crescent wrench. I found my first electric drill socket sets in the 1990s on a discount table at an auto dealership, and I got a set of three sizes for around six dollars. I use my electric drill when possible, but when space limitations are an issue I have to use my ratchet and socket set.

    been working on a body mount kit to do a chassis swap on my classic car, and man have these been a lifesaver. I think I saved two weeks of my time in just tightening nuts and bolts with my drill over my ratchet. Completely, 100% worth the $5 i spent on them. Hell, now that I know, I'd throw down more if I had to

    Yep! I have had all of those for years, they are essential in a tool kit.
    However crescent wrenches are what you use when they are the only thing you have got, I have a selection of them but they get used as a hammer more often than as a wrench (spanner in my version of English).

    Those impact drivers are my favorite tool I have in my bag. Multiple sets of bit holders from long to short, I have two other extensions, one is flexible and the other is a 90. Short and long JIS, flat, torx, hex, robinson, and sockets for metric/sae and etorx. Can fit them dam near anywhere, and if your grip isn't perfect on it, you are not going to rip your wrist apart.

    I can remember back 15 years ago we didn't have all sorts of different cordless tools available. A cordless drill was all you needed. Today I'm looking at a 1" cordless impact that delivers 1800 ft pounds with just 18v.

  • @DanGrossDrums
    @DanGrossDrums 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My recent epiphany was the actual tool you're using: the cordless impact driver. Picked one up earlier this summer. Just recently used it to remove some old, rusted flat-head screws and the ease with which they came out (especially after not being able to nudge them manually) was like *angels sing*. Picked up a set of impact-quality socket adapters after that. :) Agree they are a nice inexpensive add to the bit drawer.

    The milwaukee ones are truly great! I had to source tons of them at work. I used to use those hex drivers hundreds of times a day. They snap fairly often though, so you should order like 5 of the sizes you usually use, instead of a full set
