This game feels unlike anything; it's an absolute treasure mine and deserves nothing but praise. Bless this team for putting in so much love and care into creating such a dynamic fascinating project with such a genuine focus on the art of its own craft, it's own sake. Thrilling storytelling, captivating world that feels your weight-- Pentiment continually surprises me at every turn, and I can't put it down. Thank you Obsidian for showing the potential of what games can be; new, innovative, cherished, intricate, informative, beautiful.
This game made me cry, contemplate my life, and then reconnect with my parents and grandparents because seeing the characters get old reminded me how little time I might have left with my family... damn this game, it's too good 😭💔
Yeah I had the same reaction. This game somehow is very depressing for a game which doesn't even try to be depressing.
I have not played a game where my decisions felt more immediately impactful like this one in a very long time. I finished my first play through and am slowly parsing through the second. What a masterpiece!
Unsurprising from the makers of fallout new vegas (the best game ever made). I think the closest games I'd recommend playing are fallouts 1,2 and new vegas, citizen sleeper, and disco elysium.
Obsidian strikes again.
Just finished it and it's easily my Game of the Year 2022. Moving story, memorable characters, charming visuals and tons of reactivity. One of those rare games that leave you feeling like you grew as a person playing it. Thank you!!!
They would rather give the goty to a walking simulator boring like god of war.
I absolutely fell in love with Pentiment. I grew very involved in church, not catholic, but I studied a ton of religious history and surrounding cultures growing up. A ton of that was 16th century due to the Protestant reformation. I even learned how to operate a movable type printing press to demonstrate how bibles were mass produced.
I've always felt this knowledge was niche and I never really got to experience anything having to do with it. Although I'm not involved in church anymore this history was always special to me. This game was SO wonderful to play with this knowledge, and I was so charmed. I about lost my mind when talking to the Druckers and seeing their font being rendered as letters on a printing press all at once rather than as hand-written script. I cannot stop talking about this game
That’s awesome. I have to check this out. Since you’re a theology nerd. I think you’d enjoy Jonathan Pageau or Jay Dyer, here on TH-cam. Have a good day.
THANKS! Finally, the game industry is starting to understand that the graphic realization is less important for the story. Focusing on 3D graphics as close to reality as possible is not only boring (we all have reality on our doorstep) but also destroys the possibility of different graphic styles.
It's also ridiculously expensive and diverts time and resources away from gameplay.
It's not like this is a problem Obsidian has ever had lol
The gaming industry has learned nothing. In what bubble gum world do you live in? 😂
I can’t express how excited I am for this game, Josh Sawyer and Obsidian have never failed in delivering an amazing narrative
Thank you, Obsidian, for your courage to create this unique game. You've achieved something special. So happy for Josh!
I like how everything in this game is downright faithful to time period. Not only the art style and fonts but the journal, UI/UX, menus everything looks simple yet intuitive and got some panache to it. Refreshing to see a studio putting work in menus and navigation while seeing that aspect of the game is quite overlooked in these days by many studios.
i love the excitement in the developers voice, it shows the love and passion they have spent to make it. i have been enjoying it so far :D
after playing disco elysium and having a medieval phase, i didn't think i could love a game so much, like... omg that's just so good, the story was so immersive, i have to make a pause bc i feel guilty
I just finished it yesterday and it is definetly a masterpiece 10/10
It's miraculous (pun intended) to me that such a large studio would make a game that is both so accessible and intellectual. What a game! Thanks Obsidian.
In 17 years playing video games, never a game touched me like pentiment, thank you obsidian
Illuminator! Please create a hardcover book version of this masterpiece and sell it to us!
This is the only game I pre ordered in years ! I believe in your vision and skills Josh.
Bought Grounded, and bought this today. Obsidian will always be an automatic buy in my book.
😂🤣😂
@@ApexxJimmy you good?
I want the Pentiment t-shirt
Definitely one of my favorite games. I really love the tone, the style and how community is portrayed. Coming from a small bavarian village myself I caught climpses of what it must have been like "back then" every now and then, at village fairs, in old inns, when the local mens choir would start singing all of a sudden and things like that. Playing Pentiment made me remember these moments and I actually felt like I missed out on something by not becoming a part of my own villages community (never was a very social person).
One of the most unique looking game this year. Usually titles like this comes from some obscure european of asian indie dev, but it’s from obsidian. I am so excited
You have created a real masterpiece. Amazing mixture of a mystery, storytelling, history telling. I am really touched. As I grew up in Lower Silesia, which's history is marked by wars, revolts, reformation, people (nations) coming and going, this game means a lot to me. I am thankful. God bless you all. (print font I guess) ;)
I would like to shout out to the art design for sticking with the idea of "a medieval painting" and yet taking some liberties and avoiding making the children look like horrible miniature adult goblins.
A narrative first game is exactly what I’m looking for. I’m even more hyped with everything I see about this game too.
My hope is that this game will help push narrative games forward in ways like Disco Elysium and Planescape Torment did. Although, that’s a high bar, but I’m optimistic that it can at least encourage more games of the style.
Disco is my favorite game of all time, and Planescape is up there as well, for sure. Inkles Heaven's Vault is a game that did not reach those heights for me, but the system behind the game, and the logic of how dialogue appears and progresses is super interesting. Jon Ingold, the guy that designs these things and wrote Heaven's Vault has some super interesting talks that can be found on youtube. I wish more people would be inspired by him and seek to develop narrative games with his ideas in mind, just as I'm hoping that people were inspired by Disco and that right now a bunch of people are trying to push the medium in that direction, as well. :) Not sure if Pentinent is gonna push the envelope in any direction, but let's see - I have great respect for Josh ever since I kickstarted Pillars of Eternity and got to see those updates where he spoke about the design process of the game.
@@aVataR_ehyeh Hey, thanks for the shoutout to Jon Ingold and Heaven's Vault! I'm not familiar with either, but I'd like to check them out.
It was Josh's videos on TH-cam as well that inspired my belief in him. He's very passionate and willing to go the extra mile, like he did with making the JSawyer mod for FNV.
Bro this was one of the best games I’ve ever played….
You guys really made something great this time, I loved it!
The dream segments I thought were specially enchanting and I have to admit the game made me cry a couple times.
Thanks for making this wonderful game! It's been a while since I was so immersed in a game and invested in its story and characters. Even the dislikeable characters had depths I didn't expect the more I learned about them. (while not excusing powerful individuals at the top of the hierarchy) The children were so damn cute and distinctive that it hurt when not all of them made it to adulthood... which of course was normal back then, but still painful to watch. I'm no history major but early modern Europe is one of my favorite eras and I really appreciate Josh's reading list. I love how the story wasn't the typical run-on-the-mill RELIGION=BAD stuff, it's easy to look down on people of the past but it doesn't help in trying to understand why they were doing it or what they were going through, and how ideas and society changed over time. I was astounded not just by the amount of research that went into the game, but how it was presented in a way that wasn't boring or preachy. Also love how diversity and social inequalities of the late medieval/early modern era were woven into the narrative and not awkwardly hammered in, as many studios unfortunately end up doing. I gasped and cried at the ending... okay, not just the ending, overall the game was the most fulfilling and emotionally engaging game I've played in years. Even a month after playing the game, Tassing, the Abbey and their people still linger in my mind.
I hope my Yale professor Bruce Gordon was consulted in creating this game. Such a great idea!
My love of Obsidian had not been betrayed. The whole thing is a very courageous choice in a very competitive industry. And I love it when fiction teaches History (rather than butcher it or twist it to fit ones national interests/biases). I am not saying I love the art style (I mean I loved the immersive graphics of Kingdom Come Deliverance, another incredible game in terms of portraying parts of History), but I totally respect it and I am determined to let it grow on me.
This is one of the most moving experiences I've ever had from a work of fiction, let alone a video game. I can't thank you enough for creating it.
Played it day 1. This game is a masterpiece and became my sixth favorite game.
This game is absolutely awesome. I've been into RPG-Videogames since ~1999 when I got my first pc. And after playing numerous games - this one stands out. Thanks for making this!
I can't wait! This looks so good!!
Loved the work that Obsidian and Josh Sawyer did with pillars of eternity games.
Cant wait for this game!
the font aspect of the game is so incredible but I am also so so so so thankful they had a setting to make it more accessible, i really appreciate that about this game
I love you guys so much ❤️
Lookin' forward to Pentiment and Avowed :)
Truly a beautiful game. A masterpiece in my eyes. Thank you Obsidian. I would love another medieval narrative work just like this one. Jesus, what a story.
Really captivating game so far, 6 hours in :)
Cant wait for Pentiment 2 with maybe a bit more RPG stuff in it? Like a tiny step into Quest for Glory?
Hope we see another unexpected game from you all. Just finished it and I love it!
Sounds like alot of background and research went into this. Obsidian's dedication is outstanding
I just finished it and I’m so sad it’s over. Obsidian did such a great job at making an impactful story with great characters you connect to. I recommend it to anyone who loves a good story heavy rpg with weighted decisions that can heavily affect the story.
I love it when a Darklands fanboy gets to live his dream.
I guess this is Josh's Darklands (without the combat). Kudos to him and the team and Microsoft for supporting it.
The game's user experience (in the broadest sense) is unparalleled. Pentiment will become a foundation stone for a new branch of video games.
Josh Sawyer and the obsidian team are very talented , i loved pentiment , waiting for avowed and more proyects !!!
Not gonna lie.. I've watched this video like 5 times in 2 days and this gives me Medieval Disco Elysium vibes.. I'm sold.. See you on the 15th..
What a great game! Thank you all for putting so much effort into it. It feels honest and very immersive. I played through it over the past week and had a very good time.
This was a legitimately fascinating deep-dive into what this game is. I'm pleasantly surprised by how eager I am to play this! I can't quite explain why, but the timing of a game like this is enough to shake-up the existing meta.
Unexpected ASMR. I watch this sometimes late at night with my headphones on.
This and Warhammer 40k: Darktide are my 2 most anticipated games this year. I'm sure Pentiment will take my GOTY.
Definitely looking forward to check it out!
This game is incredible! I’m on my second play through, and dude…
Just finished it.. amazing game, loved everything about it. I loved how it really encouraged you to check everything because of the intrigue. I hope they get an opportunity to make more games like this
Just finished it in one playthrough, got hooked and couldnt stop playing. Havent had a game do that in a looooong time!
I could not truly express how much I love this game - easily my game of the year!!
If they ever make a similar game about the Münster Rebellion...
Absolutely can't wait for this! You guys at Obsidian are such masters at game design. Already preloaded it
protest to make a sequel to this game plssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss I LOVE IT!
One of the best games I've played in a long long time
This game is truly a work of art.
This game is a masterpiece. Thank you Josh Sawyer and your team!
I am a reenactor of 16th-century history, an art buff, a language nerd, who portrays an Austrian landsknecht at renaissance faires. I also have a keen interest in the development of local legends and the origins of ancient religions.
Legit, I feel like you made this game for me, personally. I loved every moment of it.
Love this game, thanks!
I hope the studio gets another shot at the Fallout universe.
I've wanted a game like this ever since reading The Name of the Rose ❤️
Love this game!!! And love Obsidian, never making the same type of game like other studios
This looks incredible. Cannot wait to experience it.
I'm gonna dig this soo much. Obsidian story telling in this looks to be another solid experience
It has been a very long time since I've been so hyped up for a game. The attention to detail in this game draws me in and speaks of the thoughtfulness of the Obsidian team working on this. Looking forward to experiencing it all, it looks and sounds very beautiful.
Amazing insight into the making of Pentiment, very intriguing.
You guys deserve all the success in the world. I’m playing this tomorrow on GamePass but I will also buy it, you deserve the support!
Pure Talent. I can't wait to play this!
I’m here to beg you guys to make another one of these
Looking forward to it. I hope you can pull it off.
Looks amazing! Obsidian never disappoints.
I wasn't sooo hyped in a long time. Great job Obsidian, it's instabuy for me!
Thanks! really nice behind the scene!
And then yall goated up and made it a day one release on Game Pass
I need the t-shirts of every person in this interview
Chris Avellone may be gone but I am so glad Josh Sawyer was able to make this game
Avellone was the only thing keeping Obsidian together. This game is a stain on the company's legacy and an embarrassment to its name.
@@Facepalm9 what?
Must buy for me, can't wait guys!
Grounded should add walk through/on building system as a second building option instead of clicking on the blueprint grab the resources walk through the blueprint and it will automatically place the resources in the blueprint
I am very much looking forward to the historical video game version of "In the Name of the Rose". The team on this one has nailed the aesthetics and made something legitimately unique.
Man this is sounding great
I'm 17 hours into this game, and I didn't realize there was a journal until they mentioned it in this video. oops
Gracias por crear este tipo de juego, no solo los respalda las increíbles creaciones de este estudio, sino ademas el detalle que imprimen a todo lo que ellos tocan, emocionado y a la espera de poder jugarlo 😁
I confess, I'm a sucker for marginalia; all the bizarre snails and rabbits, lol. I just started the game and already learned something new, the cat in the cradle legend. And here I was thinking I knew my European history and folklore. Thanks Obsidian.
NEXT WEEK!
This game made me cry on SEVERAL occasions on separate playthroughs. Caspar is my sweet son and I won't hear a word against him
Obsidian ❤
Looks incredible! I can’t wait to play this!
this perfectly scratches an itch ive had for so long. ive like never seen a visual art style in a game that was more appealing to me than this one, not to mention the music. god, this is so cool. well done to the entire team!
Damn...the guy @3.57 name is called Klooster.
That's a Dutch word meaning: monastery.
What a coincidence 😳
Jeeeez! I can't wait full game!!! :-) Literally, everything the developers at Obsidian touched = 24k gold! Josh - new image! From bike-man to rocker! PS: My favorite book is The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco ;-) ;-) ;-)
I'm really looking forward to this game
cannot wait!
Josh Sawyer Genius
Really excited for this!
I am so hyped for this game!
As someone who only owns a Ps4 Pro I think this is the first Xbox exclusive in a while where I've went "fuck I'd play the shit out of that" hearing some of the reviews on it it sounds a bit like Disco Elysium in terms of it being Dialogue heavy, the passing of time and a heavy emphasis on choice hope it does well enough it looks and sounds awesome.
Yea, I’m excited to play this one. Looks very unique.
I'm sold! But not until I watched this really well made video that explained why it's so cool.
As a Darklands fan, I approve!
