- WOW. My freshman year at Harvard taught me so much, so here are 10 lessons I learned! Freshman year was like a rose with many thorns....it was great, but wasn't always filled with happy moments. Which lesson do you think was most helpful?? 🤓

My son is a rising freshman, and so glad he learned a lot of your lessons as a boarding school student at a hyper-competitive NE boarding school. Imposter Syndrome is real, and was fortunate that as it started to set in during his freshman year, the universe sent him back to the nest due to COVID. His dad and I spent seven months refocusing his mindset. Over the last three years, he has started to master a lot of your tips, and we pray that he will have the best college experience. He knows how to ask for help and can always tap out. Good luck to all students!

Nice to see another video Helen! 💕 When I first saw the title I was reminded of fellow Harvard TH-camr Sienna Santer's video where she talked about the lessons she learned! Even though I'm currently an art student attending a college in Canada, I love hearing your perspective on attending Harvard. I don't think I would do an exchange, but I would love to study abroad during the summer! Maybe next summer I can study in Europe🤞

I did not get any scholarships! But I know a lot of other people who did (e.g. Coca Coca Scholars & Gates Scholarship)

Hey Helen!! What clubs did you join in college? Did you manage to practice piano during your freshman year? Were you part of a club for that? Btw I'm from Italy and I will def struggle a lot with New England weather this fall (I'm an incoming freshman!)
I didn’t join that many clubs because the dance team was my main thing. I joined HAPA (Half Asian People’s Association), which was a fun little club for me to connect to others of the same ethnicity. I practiced piano on my own whenever I had the time. New England winters can be brutal, but you got this!

Hello Helen..I am Zahraa from Iraq. I am 16 years old... I watched some of your videos and really liked it. You are really an ambitious girl. I also aspire to go to Harvard and learn there, but I think it is impossible because we are in Iraq, our schools are different from you. You have many activities such as music, drawing, sports and so on ... and these activities are useful for applying to Harvard University. If I want to go like you, I have to be very talented regardless that I am good at studying and my grades are high, in addition, I must master the English language and get a TOEFL or IELTS certificate, tests and certificates Many..... My question is how do I develop myself if I have ambitions for good universities? In terms of non-school activities that I personally need to learn?... Please, I want advice for me as an Iraqi student who aspires to good universities. ...what does it require me to do?? Too many questions, sorry. I hope that you will answer me. You will help me a lot in my life😭💕💕
my advice to you is to tell a compelling story when writing your personal statement. and with activities it doesn’t have to be super excellent in a talent. it can be a commitment to your community or even your family that has caused you to realize a passion within yourself. based on your little paragraph. Your english seems phenomenal and I encourage you to aim high. Also you may want to consider who you can get recommendations from. maybe one from a parent who sees your commitment to education and can speak on it or some other respected community member.
