When Bruce gets angry the nanomeds and gamma radiation allow Hulk to take over his body until he no longer feels threatened. It's like how a patient with DID is unable to deal with trauma so they have alters that take over their body to help the host cope with stressful situations.

You know, it's funny, but I feel like a lot of neurodivergent people can relate to Bruce Banner (as can I, for that matter). And as much as I love Spider-Man and relate to him, looking back, I realize that I'm much closer to Banner than I am to Peter Parker. Because Parker, despite his financial and relationship issues, is ultimately not doing so badly in life. Think about it : people love him (aside from haters like Jameson who secretly envy him), he's dated several hotties, he's witty and humorous... he's got all the makings of a happy place. Spider-Man is basically every nerd's fantasy of becoming a chad someday. Bruce Banner, on the other hand, is a different story. His life has never been anything except angst and loneliness. Abused by his father, belittled by everyone who thought he was too puny or fearful... and when he became the Hulk, things didn't get any better. He's constantly hunted by law enforcement, has to be kept under surveillance in case he loses control, and people fear him and call him a monster. He can never be completely free and live normally. Just like neurodivergent people who need support and assistance. We want what others have, but we can't because of our differences. And just like the Hulk, it makes us really, really angry. And you wouldn't like us when we're angry.
