Strange that it was called the Genesis over in the USA But here in the U.K we adopted the Japanese name of Sega Megadrive.
In europe was it the mega drive too

Their failure was mostly due to the price and how ugly the "modular" design of their console was, with the 32x and Sega CD plopped ontop of the MD/Genesis. It looked like the poor console was on life support!

I was using this for Zelda Links Awakening and it worked great, also used the SN30 as well. The game plays way better with a D Pad on the switch.

Mega Drive was also the name for the Genesis in Europe!
More like Genesis was the name for the Mega Drive in America. I don't think there's any other places where they called it the Genesis.

Keep in mind the Saturn controller is a successor to the 6 button Genesis/Mega Drive controller, the Saturn controller added the L and R "which replaces the Mode button"

If you compare the Saturn controller and the Genesis controller they look very different. And if you place all three together it's clear that the 8bitdo guys copied the Saturn.

I remember how comfortable on my mega drive 2. The controller is smaller compared to the first version and felt more comfortable. Hopefully the size for this 8bitdo is exactly the same.
With this controller you play every Puyo Puyo titles like Puyo Puyo Tetris and Puyo Puyo eSports for Nintendo Switch so you feel like you’re playing Puyo Tsu on Mega Drive. That’s why we call it 8BitDo Puyo controller.

So... That Sega adapter means bluetooth for atari 2600 as well, yes? That's actually pretty sweet.
Yes but whatever you do, DO NOT PRESS START! The way the port on an Atari (or other retro computers like the c64, Amiga, Atari 800 etc) is wired is different from the genesis and while most buttons are fine, pressing start will fry your system!

I still love my Saturn. It still works too.
I don’t have it on Switch, but I read that because of the default mapping of the M30, The buttons for games in the Sega Genesis Collection are different from their original incarnations. It would be really cool if Sega implemented a patch that allowed for mapping the buttons.
Nintendo shod just do that so all games could have mapping (like steam)

I want a M30 pro now. With an extra pair of shoulder buttons and analog sticks. Playing N64 games would be so much better and easier that way with the six front buttons.

This would have been an instant buy...if it had analog sticks, the nostalgia factor inst satisfactory enough personally for me to warrant a purchase.

@@DoctorStrix - I realize that I grew up on NES vs Genesis gaming. I realize NO THERE WAS NOT a 6 button controller on Genesis.
Fighting games are some of the twitchiest games there are and is probably the genre where low-latency is most important. Unfortunately, the M30 Bluetooth and the Genesis Retro Receiver have a lot of latency compared to other wireless pads. Not sure how the Retro Receiver would work with a Dual Shock 3/4 or the M30 BT would compare to a switch Joycon, but Bluetooth is inherently slower than USB or proprietary wireless.

I really wish 8bitdo would make a dual 3DS stick controller. I've had my 3DS for a decade and have never had drift issues, and it runs Smash Bros perfectly. Just a great form factor.

The reason it’s “M30” is because the Megadrive is over 30 years old now. Also, they called it Megadrive worldwide. North America was the exception, not Japan.

People with Big hands are goin to have trouble with this controller
“Better option back then” is still debatable. Even after they added 6-buttons, they still didn’t have shoulder buttons (Mode doesn’t count!) or a Select button (admittedly not the most compelling but it was sorely missed back when the Genesis has no more buttons than the NES). Shoulder buttons were a new innovation with the SNES/SFC... so much so that the competition ended up adopting two... just like the Rumble Pak prompted DualShock.

Sega always had the convex/concave buttons backwards from what it logically should be but this is obviously due to most games using only the bottom row.

IDK If it was already sent to you but. The - button and pressing down function as swapping to the Nintendo button layout. Other wise the review was nice luv that you added most of the modes.

I wouldn't recommend using it for modern games that requires analog sticks like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

I don’t think the Mortal Kombat blood vs. sweat thing helps your argument that we debate different things today, like resolution and special effects. ;) It’s the same kind of trivial thing. The gameplay was almost exactly the same. A real example of “completely different” between SNES and Genesis would be something like Aladdin or Robocop vs. Terminator. Aladdin was particularly interesting, since Disney allowed them to make it violent in contrast to the movie. The main character, Aladdin, uses a sword to fight palace guards vs. a sidekick character, Abu, using a sword to intimidate them (quickly abandons that as a joke).
I've ordered one of these to use with the NSO Megadrive app as well as any Megadrive inspired games... I picked up a pre owned SF30 pro too for good measure, to use on games like Stardew valley :)
We get it, anything can control the switch. I use my dualshock 4 as my Nintendo switch Pro controller. Now can we all move on to a better topic. Like howmany AAA games coming to the switch.

The NES30 Pro/SNES30 Pro/FC30 Pro lost one supported platform when they updated the firmware to add Switch support, so they don’t want to pigeonhole themselves with an “info pad on back.” They learned that lesson already. Sucks, of course. That’s probably why you had to go to the website too, since the basic instructions may tell you wrong for future firmware.

Why do people keep saying that? First they say the snes is called the super famicom then they say the turbo graphics 16 is called the pc engine and now the genesis is called the mega drive what's next the new 3ds LL instead?
