3 lessons I learned from projecting so far

  • Some of these are for beginner climbers and some for the tad more seasoned. I would say... I'm somewhere right in the middle.
I've only been climbing for a little over two years again, and in that time, projecting has never been something I regularly did. But now, I'm starting to see what all the fuss is about.
You ALWAYS hear about good climbers projecting hard climbs for days, weeks, months... and even years??? So why hadn't I thought about it?
I admit, I love the send. And I loved just exploring what was still relatively a new sport for me. But now, I feel as though I've gotten enough reps in to where the fun of climbing has matured.
It's not so much about sending a lot of the things or the hardest things and "being a good climber" as much as it is about having fun through movement. If I get a send, sick, if not, no biggie. As long as I learn a new move or experience a super sick flow in a climb, that's all that matters.
And with that being said, 'the project has brought new life to the sport for me! Perhaps I'll get deeper into that in a video one of these days... until then - enjoy this video about a few insights I've learned from projecting.

Digging your channel. The TH-cam God gave me what I've been looking for. Small background on me: Been climbing for a little over 3 months now (minus some breaks due to minor injuries) and quickly got to V4. Now that I hit my and mostly everyone's plateau area, I've been craving a progression series with someone around my level. Bigger channels do help with guides and stuff, but I feel it's data overload for me atm. I really like how you explain your thoughts before, during and after your climbs. Keep up the good work!

Oh sick, welcome to climbing! And yeah my thoughts exactly when starting this channel - It's cool to see all the really good pro/am climbers climb really good but it's more of a spectacle experience than a relatable one. So hopefully with all the things I learn first hand, other people around my level can really learn from them too. Glad you're here 🤝

Bro you are actually super strong, I think most of the reason you aren't flashing everything is because you doubt your abilities. But I'm just seeing through a screen so I don't actually know. I would love to hop in a session with you if you would have me and if I actually can wake up that early. I've also just learned the art of projecting and I think I have improved way much over the last 2 weeks than I have in the last month before that. Long weird rant but I enjoy watching videos of someone doing climbs I also do, it's like getting a new perspective. Nice vid

Super true, the art of projecting is finally getting me through the V5-7 plateau and it's making climbing as fun as when I first started again. And I appreciate you thinking I'm that good lol but you know what, I think there is some truth to what you're saying. Climbing "success" is hugely related to mindset and I experienced that first hand when doing the First Ascent bouldering league. I always climb wayyyy harder and impress myself with what I'm able to achieve in a day when I'm climbing to win... anyway. I appreciate your rant actually, and yeah dude, if you're up for the 6am-ers, I'm down to climb!
