I bought 30 of the Home Depot totes for moving and have been using them for storage for ten years now. They get used and abused all the time, not just filled and left for years in the attic. These are the best totes I have ever owned, by far. We have a couple of the Costco totes that my wife thought were the same thing. They have not stood up at all and have been relegated to Christmas decorations duty because they don't hold much weight and can't take moving them around more than twice a year.
Ok. This makes me feel better. I don’t have a Costco membership. But the HD bins have been on sale for $10 sometimes. And that’s what I’ve been buying.
Yes, absolutely HD ones hold up better. They can stack 5 high with considerable weight in each. They can also store things outside without leaking, unlike others.
Man these prices have changed. They're now $9.99 at my Costco and $15.98 for the HDX at Home Depot. That made my decision for me, let alone the quality difference. I needed over 20 so I saved over $100.
An interesting point - look at the walls of each container. You can see the Home Depot container's walls have "steps" that go all the way to the bottom, whereas Costco's container only have partial steps. These steps serve to strengthen to the walls of the containers as opposed to the walls being completely flat. Assuming that each container is comprised of the same thickness and strength material, I'd say the Home Depot container would be stronger at least in this regard.
The Costco are actually a little more durable. I have both and prefer the Costco for that extra width. Plus the Costco totes doesn’t have that burnt rubber smell. I always wash the Home Depot totes and leave them out to dry and air out for about 5 days. After that the bad smell is gone
I found out that you can not stack a Costco, Lowes or any standard square-bottomed tote on a Home Depot tote because the HDX lid depression has rounded corners.
I've been over-researching these. The dimensions are different enough in general to make them incompatible if you are planning storage down to the inch. HDX have a smaller footprint, and are taller.
After using both for a while I prefer the Costco for a couple reasons. 1st the Home Depot totes have a burnt rubber smell and the totes from Costco don’t. I always wash the totes from Home Depot and let them sit outside to air out. After about a week the smell goes away. 2nd I prefer the extra width and length of Costco. I can get more things in there with the extra room. 3rd the lids stay on the Costco totes better. If you have arthritis this could be a negative though. They both do the job fine though
At my work we use dozens and dozens of HDX 27 and 55 gallon totes pluse a few smaller ones here and there. In a bind we tried other bands from other stores like Wal-Mart, Lowes, Ace, Tractor Supply Store, and Atwoods. None of the other brands have ever held up holding heavy media, hardware, water, stacking, sliding, dropping, and general rough handling. I'm curious how the Costco totes handle side bulging, cracking, splitting, and chipping and trying to hold too much weight.
I got a small Home Depot version as a hydroponic reservoir and was very disappointed in the quality of the top but worst was the leak at the bottom. You see many people using these for hydroponic but don't even try with the Home Depot versions. Looks like the molds have spots on the bottom that are not smooth and likely to leak.
When you think about it the 50 cents price savings adds back up when you have to pay for a Costco membership compared to Home Depot which costs nothing to shop. Just a thought.
That would make sense if you're paying for the membership just to purchase these. If you have a Costco membership, you most likely buy other things from them.
Thank you! I went to buy more of the Costco brand bins and they were out. I was coming to this video to see if they were able to be stacked interchangeably so thanks for answering that question.
Looked high and low for a foot locker style trunk to store my daughter's dress up clothes. th-cam.com/users/postUgkxRkkpE1_3gMEZ2mPhAt6b2moNCUXyH8tG I had one growing up that I stored my Barbies in and wanted something sturdy like that for her costumes. This arrived really, really quickly and is exactly what I've been looking for. Perfect size, color (pink) and has stood up for nearly a year so far against my kids using it as a chair, stage, and barricade (😬) to keep each other out of their rooms. I'm probably going to order another one for my daughter's Barbies.
Costco is the better choice, especially right now that they've been on sale periodically. Superior build quality as well. Hands down the best in every way.
The Home Depot HDX brand are about 3/4" more narrow that the Greenmade from Costco; as such they will NOT fit reliably on the storage rack products offered by SafeRacks. They fall through. And as has been mentioned, the two different brands don't play (stack) nicely with each other.
Sunova biscuit. I bought a few of those HDX’s from home depot for some home storage. I’m a bit OCD when it comes to getting matching stuff but damn I’ll sacrifice OCD for better quality and value with Costco.
Sam’s club has their brand Members Mark 27 gallon totes for $9.98 and cheaper on sale ! I have no problem with them storing a number of different things in them ! The quality I have now problems with !
Yes, both worked well as checked luggage. I have an HDX one that cracked and has a hole missing on bottom where dropped. No damage on any costco bins yet but could be chance.
Nice vid. Im a bank angler so i have a ton of fishing lures on problem i have is that i have more baits then sotrage and so i was planning on purchasing a husky storage bin from home depot to store my fishing lures in with a divider in the middle. over all great vid very infomative.
Costco's always a better choice you don't have to deal with the idiots at Home Depot . I like that at Home Depot they have signs saying have a question ask one of our professionals . If they were professionals they wouldn't be working at Home Depot . What kind of plumber or electrician would walk away from $100,000 plus a year job to work for crap wages in a dead end job ? A very bad one someone you wouldn't wanna take advice from . Home Depot has become the Walmart of hardware stores , poor quality cheaply made merchandise but without the low price.
Cost of petroleum courtesy of the Democrats decimating cheap, local domestic energy manufacturing in favor of the Saudi's and others continuing to price gouge us. (i.e, Elections matter.)

They’re $9.99 for me at HDX rn. I think they’re on sale or “on sale”. The red lids are the same price
Now 9.99 17 gallon at Costco/Lowe's

I have both. The HDX is garbage. They are flimsy warped plastic

You'd be wrong

Damn looks like I’m stuck with Home Depot i already have about 8 so would be a waste to switch
I've been over-researching these. The dimensions are different enough in general to make them incompatible if you are planning storage down to the inch. HDX have a smaller footprint, and are taller.
Great review. Thank you. I thought they were all the same until I see them side by side.

Thanks, good to have some real-world feedback on what holds up. Appreciate the info.
This was a review about lids.

Weigh them on a sensitive scale! You'll find the Home Despot [sic] bins are much lighter than the Greenmode bins offered by COSTCO and others!
Thanks for sharing. Making this decision today as well

My family gets a lot of food/household things from costco so in the long run you’re saving money if anything

Does the Costco lid seal better? To leave on the balcony etc.

Lid on Costco very hard to remove. Any tip? Have arthritis.
Dang it. And I started buying all Homedepot. I do wish they were a little wider. But haven’t had any issue with them.
Sunova biscuit. I bought a few of those HDX’s from home depot for some home storage. I’m a bit OCD when it comes to getting matching stuff but damn I’ll sacrifice OCD for better quality and value with Costco.
The Costco tote is much higher quality, not slightly, as stated in the video. I’ve had the Costco for years and they are well worth the money.
I have about 50 of those HDX boxes, none of them have defects like the one you show
It's not a Defect.
This person has never been to a manufacturing factory of plastic items.
That's all.
Absolutely not a defect.
Wow! Sale Price is now $13.98. What an increase in a little over a year. Reg price is $15.98
Just had a sale at my Costco for 8.99$ a piece no limit
😃 Costco is the best of the two. The awesome feature on this storage container is that it completely locks when closed.
How to eliminate the strong plastic odor?
Any suggestions for keeping moisture out of these (as I live in Florida)?
But how do you make the lid not leak
Thank you for sharing.
Random question you think these are waterproof? I would like to store these outside
Great review! Thank you

They are on sale at Costco July 2023 for $7.99 no limit.
Looks like it would become brittle after a couple of years?
Does anyone know how to open one of these
These are water resistant? Would prevent a small amount of water from getting in on the sides/bottom?
Greenmade 27 Gallon Storage Bin on Amazon is $35 as of April 2024.
Not worth buying in Amazon. They cost a lot because of shipping.
Thinking of using for water storage, any comments pro/con would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

@@malibustacy3606 Too many meds today Mailbu
out side they will FILL UP WITH WATER i dont know how so much water can get in there but it does
Which brand does this?
how are these for booster boxes?
Anyone try flying with these??
Yes, both worked well as checked luggage. I have an HDX one that cracked and has a hole missing on bottom where dropped. No damage on any costco bins yet but could be chance.
I’d have weighed them and also calipered wall thickness. Might (might) support the wide opinion that the Costco / Greenmade is superior.
I bought one yesterday
I don't have a Home Depot or Costco anywhere near me. I buy most of my 27 gallon totes at TSC or Walmart. Be prepared and be safe my friends.
Crazy i just bought the hdx 27 gal for $14 on sale from $18

Costco is NSF and Home Depot is NOT
Nsf?
Price
It sucks because you can't stack them otherwise either is fine.
You cant stack costco on home depot
Just a note, the clear version of this bin is twice the price of the black version in Home Depot

Cost of petroleum courtesy of the Democrats decimating cheap, local domestic energy manufacturing in favor of the Saudi's and others continuing to price gouge us. (i.e, Elections matter.)
Dropped my tote 6 inches and the bottom cracked.
Going all rubbermate brute
Rural King under $7
There 8 bucks again at costco now
Green made are better and the hdx smell
Manufacturing defects!! LOLLOLOLOLOL it's a flipping storage bin Zoomer!
Hi friend , are you interested in product unboxing video ?
Used a gallon of gas to save 50c. That doesn't make sense.
That's what you get for buying Home Depot shit
Literally made in the same factory. Don't get scammed.
Obviously not, if they have different dimensions and patterns...
@@JosiahBrewster They just change the mold and do them in batches. The plastic and colors are exactly the same.
Most of this plastic stuff is made by a company named keter. They also make plastic chairs, rolling tool boxes, feed troughs.
