I love seeing a garage with multiple interests / activities layered together, and The notes organization of small parts is a fast efficient tool. Brilliant.
The red repurposed kitchen cabinets look great too.

My garage is twice as big as yours and i feel i don't have enough room for everything. but after seeing yours, it's really just me not utilizing the space as best as i can for the tools and stuff that i have. i really like the movable vice table. The drill press with bench grinder on wheels. Very creative and functional ideas.
It also seems we are into the same things, motorcycles, classic and muscle cars as well as the type of work we do. Again thanks for posting and i hope to duplicate some of these space keeping arrangements.

The one thing you always have to worry about in having a garage is, security, if you live on a busy street or neighborhood, every time you open your garage you invite eyes to peer into your world of precious stuffs. I store everything in my basement, or inside a closet dedicated to tools and such. I try not to store anything of value but to any scavenger roaming the neighborhood a red plastic gas can is a score. Keep you gear secure and try as much as possible to keep valuable stuff hidden.

I couldn't imagine worrying about shit like that. I grew up in the hood and thieving eyes were everywhere. I guess some people worry about stuff others don't. Stop being so paranoid about getting robbed because you open your garage. Lol

Sir, you and I are kindred spirits. Honestly, when I saw the title of your video I chuckled as I'm somewhat of an organization freak myself. After only a very few minutes I knew I had to watch. Very impressive garage. I especially like the laundry room shelving for keeping pliers tidy. The level of organization throughout is superb and your rational for being organized is spot on. I also really loved that you've kept the vital elements of home and family in your garage. As a fellow Canadian I salute you. I'll leave you with only one request: please take great care riding your motor bikes because the world needs more people like you. Greatest of respect, and thanks you you for sharing.

That was a very well written genuine compliment and assessment of this TH-camr's (AT-AT Designs) efforts! We need more encouragers out there who inspirationally springboard men into similar work efforts on behalf of their families! Not a lot of down to earth role models left out there without having to spend considerable effort tracking them down. Thank God for TH-cam! Hat's off to you, fellas!

Wow... just wow. I am both daunted and inspired by seeing your workspace and hearing your thinking on how and why each part is designed and used. I am also one who was raised to not throw things away, but organizing all those damn bits and bobs is a chore. In my garage *and* in my art studio. You are so right though, that organizing them hap-hazardly has resulted in wasted time. It's good to hear your encouragement that putting in the time up front will pay back in the long run.
I'm about to do yet another organization of my studio work-space so the timing of finding this video (randomly! I was looking at something else!) is perfect.
I hand-sew, machine sew, paint (on canvas), draw, make papier mache, handmade books, collages, masks, faux finish painted furniture... etc. I just bought a YUKON 9 drawer, wheeled tool cabinet that I am VERY excited about. I have a lot of mis-matched storage pieces collected over time and am happy to be consolidating things and creating different, more customized storage for all of my projects. I also bought hanging bags- the kind used for prescriptions at the pharmacy- but in several different sizes, from 7"x10" up to 20" x 25". They're 4 ML plastic with heavier weight handles than the ones for pharmacies. I bought shelf standards and I customized the brackets to fit the 3/8" metal rods that accommodate the handles of the hanging bags. So when I get that up on the wall, I will be able to store papers and fabrics as well as ongoing projects in a way that I can *see* them (rather than digging through boxes and bins to find them). I think they'll take up less room too. And for the tiny stuff... I've always been a bit skeptical about those multi-small drawer bins but seeing your organizing system makes so much sense in using them efficiently. I could go on, but I'll stop here! Just thanks very much for sharing this!

Great set up. There are several ideas there I'll be using in my relentless pursuit of organization. The re-purposing your kitchen cabinets made to look like a tool chest was pure genius. One thing I saw that might help you is to add some sliders trays under all your automotive liquid bottles (10:06) to make it easy to get to the ones in the back. Now, back to MY garage. I've got a lot of work to do. Thanks for posting.

The tile is called multi tile, it clicks together. The floor draining system is a piece of vinyl flooring with pvc pipe as borders to lift up the edges to contain the water.

I have a very similar numbering system on an Excel spreadsheet. It is printed it out alphabetically. It's very quick to locate anything. Another benefit is if you have too many of one item (like your example of small tubes) to fit in one drawer, put the excess in another drawer that has room to spare and note it on the spreadsheet. Great tips - thanks for posting it!

On your sheet, do you do sizes? Dropdown list to pick the size? If so, how did you get a good list for the dropdown? How are you storing it? I am thinking I am breaking it out (thread, diameter, length, etc). Only issue with that then you need a column for each type of fasteners. It is a work in progress.

EXPENSIVE flooring at 30 cents a sqft, is NOT expensive. A garage about 400 sqft, so in Canadian you paid $88.00 for a very nice flooring. I wonder…do you go behind thrift stores to see about late drop-offs?

i just came across this vid... instead of locking up your bike / things, why not just put a perimeter alarm (many options, ie invisible fence, motion detection, ...) outside and a cam inside? worked for me like a charm. could even tie that into a garage door opener / closer and if triggered then blast a siren and auto-closes the garage door. so many options.

Apparently, bicycles are the perfect form factor for opportunistic theft. As opposed to illicit drugs, it is legal to possess a bike. Consequences of getting caught with a stolen bike are negligible compared to grand theft auto. There is a robust market for a bikes easily disassembled parts, and finally, it is it’s own means of escape from the scene of the crime.

The bottom line is the system is two dimensional and visual: You can see everything at a glance, nothing is hiding behind something else. That's his first rule. Its either vertical on a wall or horizontal in a drawer, but nothing is hiding visually. The second rule is grouping tools together into categories. This whole garage is about two dimensional presentation.

One curious thing on your bicycle theft. You know I have it locked up however it’s hanging next to a bunch of keys. Can you clarify that it seems that that would be an odd place to store keys? If where are you store the bike itself is not a secure area wouldn’t keys be a very insecure thing to store just above it?

One thing I notice is that the star player of this garage organization is the man’s diligence to actually put tools away properly. I heavily dislike pegboards because you spend too much effort getting the tool to hang right each time. Putting the tool away absolutely needs to be the easiest part for me to stay that level of organized

heres a quick lil thought all those inventory cases of hardwares and wires etc,, plug your list or system of labeleed storage bins or cases into alexa so u wont even need to access your notes in ur phone u can just shout out alexa what bin or case is 11 gauge wire in . **alexa answers , may help may not idk was just throwing out there bud keep rocking on superdad!!

I have wanted to do that exact thing. How would I go about “plugging in’ the list?

    • @Kozmosworld
      @Kozmosworld 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@at-atdesigns Create a list:
      Open the Alexa app.
Go to "More" then select "Lists & Notes".
Click "Create List" and name it "Shopping List" or something similar.
      Add items with location:
Say "Alexa, add [item name] to my shopping list in the [location]".
For example, "Alexa, add milk to my shopping list in the fridge" or "Alexa, add towels to my shopping list in the linen closet".
Access the list and hear locations:
Say "Alexa, what's on my shopping list?"
Alexa will read out the list, including the specified locations for each item.
      Key points to remember:
      Specific locations:
Be as specific as possible when describing where each item is located to get the most accurate information.
      Multiple lists:
You can create different lists for different purposes, like a "Grocery List" and a "Cleaning Supplies List".
      Editing lists:
You can edit the list by adding, removing, or changing item locations through voice commands or in the Alexa app , hope this helps your endeavors and makes life a lot simpler and time saving for ya bud . I need to quit dragging ma feet and start recording more but I got a broke az phone and no good camera so kind of a fish out of water there...,

    • @GothamPossum
      @GothamPossum ปีที่แล้ว

@@at-atdesigns You really should man! Your process of thinking is unique and quite ingenuitive.. I think a 3D printer would bring a lot of value to your projects. For me, 3D printing was able to bridge the gap between an idea and a prototype. Being able to render a to-spec component on the computer and simply print it is a game changer! Especially so when you can just print (for pennies) a gasket or some proprietary part that costs an ass & an arm to otherwise buy! TBH I was a bit intimidated by the whole process myself when I started researching and contemplating 3d printing. Once I finally had one in front of me it was a lot easier to make sense of things and it became less overwhelming. It didn't really take too long to learn either. Now, I think my 3d printers bring the most value per dollar spent of any other tool I have.

That way when I have a drawer that has multiple items the photo provides further detail of what is in there. Provides a neat visual addition to easily find things.
