This tutorial covers the basics of getting started inside Adobe Illustrator! I walk through how to set up documents, how to create and modify type, how to draw basic shapes and also give them rounded corners, give a very basic overview of using the pen tool, and then finish showing the brush and blob brush tools.
I tried to have this be fairly comprehensive in order to give you all the basic skills you need to start to creating stuff inside Illustrator! With these building blocks you can start to work towards creating more advanced designs. :)

Same here 12 years ago I took up Graphic design , got my associates degree & however didn't learn no where near as much from my prof, instead we was thrown to the wolves & had to learn from advance students how was trying to learned themselves... so after completing the course in 2 years, that next year got my CDL and start driving trucks instead & was best decision since.
Tried watching two tutorials before this and they were both so fast for a beginner. This one was great and clear! Thank you!
wow, im so glad i found this video! :) i'm taking a graphic design class in my high school and adobe illustrator is what we're starting with, but i had no clue how anything worked and struggled today in my second day of school 😅 you speak quickly, simply, yet fairly detailed. i love it! thank you so much ❤️
I'm at the just-opened-the-box stage, tried a few other tutorials, and was rapidly discouraged. But found this tutorial and really felt as if I was learning and gaining understanding of the tools and what they do. Thank you for the time you take to teach - it's tremendously helpful and encouraging!

The way to understand any new program is to play with it and explore it before trying to master it.
There is no definitive way to master illustrator..
Use it , and learn by doing it; use you tube and absorb the established learning.
Allow about 12 months to become reasonably conversant with the software - then it is a learning process.
I agree! The more time you spend with something, the more quickly you'll find yourself becoming more proficient with it. I hope this video helps some people out with their first few steps. :)

Wow Matt! You are a life saver! I am a photographer and a Photoshop Pro. I bought a 3-D laser printer and now have to use vector files. I assumed, both being Adobe products, that using Illustrator would be easy and only a minor learning curve. WRONG!! I have been ‘dead in the water’ in attempting to change my files into vector files. This tutorial gave me the tools to get going and your other tutorials will allow me to refine my workflow. I appreciate how quickly and concisely you explain and demonstrate. I’m definitely a Subscriber now and you have a Fan for Life! Thank you!
