    Hi, I've read that you only need to go a meter up with a steel flue, is this right for this type of fire? I've also read that one guy didn't even need a flue? How is that possible? Also dose the plate in the chimney have to be steel or can it be fireboard? Thanks, do you have a video showing how to cap off the gas pipe? Cheers

      MrVM41 the plate on the top clamps to the flue holding it from slumping, you can use no flue, this means the flue performance may not be as good as it takes more heating. Cold flues struggle.
      Also you can get moisture out the wood if not season long enough, a flue liner will protect your brickwork from damp.

    Do you have to conform with regulations and get signed off and did you have an air gap around the back of the stove?

      Simon Blacher there is a air gap but the fire pulls air through from underneath to keep cool then throws the heat out the front.. so it’s double skinned

    Hi mate. I’m in the process of having one of those fitted. My back plate and harth are both marble too. I’ve been told the back plate had to be cut into 3 and the harth needs lifting and a “heat plate” inserted underneath to prevent both cracking from the heat. Did you come across this?? And has yours cracked?

    • @GHancock

      Nope, I can safely say it’s never cracked, but I never burn coal on it, I think coal and wood together produce higher temperatures. Only then would I think it was at risk

      @@GHancock hi there, how do you manage to connect the liner to inset stove? Is there enough give in the liner to do it then push back into place?

      Hi, does the liner comect directly to the adaptor on the back of the inset stove.
      Thanks Ryan.

    Nice! Did you insulate behind the stove at all?

    • @GHancock
      @GHancock  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, not on this one. . The fire has a built in air gap which suck in from the bottom and comes out the top keeping the back cooler

    We have a class 1 chimney in a 120 year old house. Would I need twin wall liner or not.

    • @GHancock
      @GHancock  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't do many log burners so you may want to carry on looking into this, But I would definitely line it..chimneys stay cold for to long when they are not lined.. Which can cause poor flow and damp from the moisture from the wood.

    Do you not need a stove pipe for this type of stove ?

    • @GHancock
      @GHancock  ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I wouldn’t. You’re introducing more joints and they can not be visually inspected and impossible to bracket. If a your installing a none inset fire then you will definitely need a stove pipe

    Thinking of getting one of these what surround do you have to have

    • @GHancock
      @GHancock  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Surround was already in place.. So I’m not sure, it’s all marble. The one thing in the house I kept

    • @philipclarke6700
      @philipclarke6700 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok do you have to have a surround for theses fires or can you just have the brick work around it?

      Lol, we’re under the floors all the time, how do you think we repipe all the downstairs radiators on jobs… you can’t go through life thinking what if I fall ill.. no one would even go for a walk in a forest, go out on a boat or rock climb thinking like that… time to loosen up Brian. If you don’t take any risk ever,you just sitting waiting to snuff it anyway 🙂
