this is Great , pardon the pun , i can now have a crafty smoke in front of the fire and if the wife asks "are you smoking again ? " , NOOO , just doing the Tortoise smoke test .and what HETAS recommends you do ...... Love .
My previous inset flame gas fire worked the same way,air was sucked in the bottom of the fire went around the fire box and out of the convector at the top
Great demo of the draw .... can an inset stove be mounted about a foot off the ground ??
Yes they can. They’re a bit of a Scandinavian design, and were designed to be raised up.
Can u fit an insert stove into a fireplace with a cast iron canopy r does the whole thing need to sit tight all round to seal
👍
Do these type of stoves have to be air tight against your fire surround? Looking for one, but our surround is rough stones
Not air tight, but for rough stone we sell a 25mm rope to put behind the surround to seal it up a bit better. You tend to bolt the stove in place to keep it positioned tightly.
You did the test with a blower on, or is it just natural convection of the inset ?
Ordinary stoves do this as well, that's what the controls are on all stoves, they draw air in to light the fire! The difference with inset and cassete stove is the second wall leaving a cavity between inner and outer wall, and thn the air warm at this stage, entering the room! Standalone stoves take up more room in some houses, and these stoves can resolve that problem! Having your house well insulated helps too!
Is there any do’s and dont’s regarding the rock wall insulation. It it a special fire retardant type or just run of the mill stuff?great video btw😊
Always worth asking when you buy it, but as far as I have found loft insulation roll is fireproof. It’s normally glass fibre which is the same stuff the door ropes are made of.
My inset stove is burning too fast any ideas whats causing it ?
Could be a ton of things, but my initial questions are:
Is the stove brand new?
Do you have a bed of ash in it?
Are the rope seals old/frayed/tired etc?
What are you burning?
Love this. Would be great to know how effectively this heats a room compared to a stand alone wood burner.
They’re generally not quite as effective but the effort that goes into these convection systems gets them closer and closer. Also you didn’t necessarily lose the heat within the fireplace, it comes out but much more slowly (your neighbours probably get some heat too 😆).
@@TheTortoise thank you 😊
