18:12 - They dont need to be on a dietary therapy if drugs control the seizures however We are so sick of the side effects - the lethargy etc etc. makes me go on a diet and be 1. Seizure free 2. Drug free !

I am an adult whose neurologist is ignorant on LCHF! My seizures were out of control for over 20yrs and with this doctor more than ever before. For 12 yrs I've had intractable epilepsy and I finally got sick of hearing he wanted me to have my head cut. I started Modified Adkins/Keto, and my seizures stopped for 4 months. I have had one. But at 3 months my LOL went up and he freaked...this is a known thing to happen. Why do some neuros like this exist, I'm too damn old for stupidity, especially from a specialist!

Thinking of what ancestors of modern humans have eaten primarily since Homo Habilis, meat + animal fat+ some high fiber plants, wouldn't it be more correct to think that the high-carb modern diet causes the epilepsy on individuals with a predisposition for the condition and not that a ketogenic diet cures it?
Our ancestors spent most of their life running on ketones. If they got a lot of carbs, it was mostly a lot at once and very rarely, not the way that we'd eat them today. With an active person who has been in ketosis for years your carb intakes can go up to 50-60g of carbs a day and you'd still stay in heavy ketosis so it is very unlikely that our ancestors would be burning mainly glucose. It has been a few million years with the same trend in the diet, a lot of fat and meat, so isn't it very possible that we have in that time evolved into a certain optimized diet for the organs that we have and thus an alternative diet can cause issues that we wouldn't necessarily understand? The human gallbladder is a good example, it's relatively high-power for what it does; makes bile so you can digest fat. If you increase the fat in your diet, the gallbladder will keep up pretty much indefinitely suggesting that there has been a very long constant pressure for it to have developed into that direction. We don't have such a good system for carbs; they just overflow from the liver and build extra fat tissue around your organs and outwards from there into your abdomen, not very optimized.

I just wonder what is the FADH2/NADH ratio of those formulas. Pufa I bet is non-abstinent in too high amounts ie > 2% of daily energy intake.

I wonder if anyone has tried to formulate a paleolithic ketogenic diet for pediatric epilepsy, which relies only on animal fats and flesh, excluding both plants and dairy, relying on red meat and fish.

My daughter has seizures due to a mutation in scn2a; would this be good for her ? We have her on meds right now and they seem to be working because they have drastically reduced her seizures but wanted to know if there ever would need to be a plan B

At 19: 56, in regards to Mothers who are breast feeding. Could not the Mother eat a LCHF diet and then breast feed? Or even eat LCHF while pregnant and breastfeed?

I was watching I can't remember the TH-cam special but they said that breast milk is 50% fat so it's actually very good for this type of ketosis diet. Of course check on this but I'm pretty sure it makes sense

Is it always for kids only? I see that the keto diet is helpful for kids.....I don't really hear it helping adults (with seizures).

Toni Malley it is definitely adult also, my wife and I when from the carnivore diet, our on the keto diet and this is where we will stay.
Basically, the keto diet is 80% fat, 15% protein, 5% carbs. The creator (God) did not make our bodies too ingest all these chemicals and sugars that’s in food today. He made our bodies to heal itself, but when we and eat all of the chemicals, and poison that’s in our food today, it throws our body out of whack all, the sugars and carbs and processed food etc. etc .
My wife and I both have been healed from different things in our bodies, since we have been doing the carnivore and keto diet (20+ pounds I’ve lost about two months is just a plus. My wife also lost 20 pounds in the same amount of time).

No news on why kids get kidney stones at such a high rate. ??? Are they choosing the wrong fats? Are they giving kids calcium supplements instead of from a food source? My doctor advised me years ago to stick to D3 supplements (I lived in MN then), but to eschew multivitamins because of a study showing most of the calcium in artery walls of autopsied heart attack victims was from supplemented calcium.

Great presentation. I think that many people are disappointed with the Akins corporation. Such poor quality food that many people question whether it even matters that it's low carb or not (although Dr. Westman clearly disagrees with that).
As for the Charlie Foundation, it's a great organization but what a shame that it makes little effort to promote itself online. It's most relevant videos on You Tube are from 10 years ago -- pretty disappointing when it has such a powerful message.

Not only did the diet fall out of favour but the doctor didn't even bother to tell you about it. The medication made you so ill you couldn't work or even function but you could nothing about it.
