I love it. Thanks for the video. I had an XS400 in college in the 80's. I loved it then. No electric start. Drum brakes. I rode it all over. One of my favorite things was to fill up the tank and try to get lost in the countryside, sooner or later you would pop out and know where you were. Great bike for getting to class on time.

I bought one just yesterday and I just can't wait to pass my exam for my license. These feel so powerful for 400cc too I'm super impressed :)

My dream now is to get my 79 XS400 out of my shed and back on the road this summer.

@@Tinkleinyourmouf I did. It was in rough shape having been there since 2007. I worked on it on and off over the summer, but ran out of time before winter set in and never got it running. I haven't given up on it yet though.
@@_Peremalfait glad to hear it, I'm putting in some new things tomorrow luckily i bought my 83 for 500 not running and it was just a battery issue so now I'm trying to get all the parts i need to make it a nice little cafe racer
@@Tinkleinyourmouf Best of luck. I'm thinking my trouble was bad gas. I'd cleaned the carbs and installed a carb kit, and I'd actually got it to turn over and run for a few seconds. I flushed the tank too with Seafoam, but I think after putting fresh gas in there was still carbon buildup in the tank and it contaminated the gas. A place to start anyway.

Damned shame it wasn't about the motorcycle, which is what I searched for. I would have far preferred the music of the motor to whatever that was I had to listen to. What a pity... it was a fine looking little bike.
Yeah, the purpose was to make a short cinematic video, nothing more.

What front end did you use on this? I picking up one of these bikes tm?
Looks like a RD series front end. Used one on my 76.
CV carbs with such small pods ? .... How well does it operate at speed ? .... No flat spots ?
Question? What was the rearset you used for this bike? I would love to know and put the same one on my bike?
I just bought a 1978 for 1k. Would this be a good starter bike?
Absolutely. I've ridden my buddy's 1977 xs400. Nothing but good things to say about it. Makes about 36bhp, so it's not the best for the highway but it can take it if it has to. Comfortable, smooth, fast, fun.

Gwenaelle Perrin-Confort Order the 6sigma jet kit on eBay. It’s what I did. Bike runs great. I have UNI filters and short mufflers. Set idle needle 3 turns out.
