    I am beginning to warm up to the 71-73s, I think it depends on the color and wheels and striping. I had never heard of the Shelby Europa, thanks for showing that.

      I was tepid to them until I owned one. I had owned a 67 and 69 before I owned my 72 Grande. It was the best built of the 3, and surely the fastest with a 351C 4V. But to be fair... the others were 302s. I wouldn't mind owning another. I might actually prefer having a 302

    Shelby actually also built an American version of the Europa Shelby Mustang. These were rebuilt Mach 1s with 351- or 429-cubic-inch V8s in 1971 as the GT350 and GT500, respectively. From 1972 only the 351 Cleveland V8 was available. These had the bodywork painted in the most psychedelic color selections like a bright citrus yellow, for example, a flat black hood with the center cut out to expose the carburetor induction stacks and a blackout honeycomb grille with the Shelby "coiled snake" emblem in the center and the larger inner rectangular lighting, as on this Shelby Europa. An example from 1973 finished in orange, one of the last built, was featured in the 1974 movie Gone In 60 Seconds.

      @@carshowreporter These Mustangs however lacked the "Shelby European" lettering and stripes. I had at least one Matchbox die cast example in citrus yellow among a collection I got for Christmas in 1978.
      P S. In 1979 McLaren took up the torch from Carroll Shelby and built a fleet of Fox-body Mustangs with a blueprinted 2.3-liter turbocharged in-line 4 DOHC FoMoCo engine from a performance version of the Pinto from Pangra Enterprises under the code M-85. It made nearly 200 bhp! It was conceived as a successor to the Mustang II-based Cobra II. Just a handful, maybe a dozen were ultimately completed. The McLaren Mustang idea was later revived by the Ford Special Vehicle Operations performance laboratory and a limited production run was built in 1984-86 as the Mustang SVO.

      The 2 ltr Ford OHC engine has it's own formula, Formula Ford. It is a great work horse!! It would make sense to build a 2.3. I will have to look into those McLarens!!! Thanks again for the fascinating background, Angel !

      @@carshowreporter The same idea returned to V8 power in 1995, moving away from the 2.3 straight 4 to the Cleveland 351 V8 with 305 bhp and up from the by-then discontinued, mid-engine De Tomaso Pantera and 250 were built as the Cobra R.

    • @carshowreporter
      @carshowreporter  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, Ford owned Shelby American and Carroll retired in 1970, so, as you stated, the '71 was not by Carroll Shelby. You are also correct about selling his name, just as Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari does. Check out this brief history: www.shelby.com/en-us/History

    • @williamMikmaq222
      @williamMikmaq222 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ford never built these cars either if that's what you're implying?
      Shelby called a dealer in the u.s. he knew and asked if they would ship some mustangs over to Europe. The dealer in Europe gave Carroll good money to allow him to put his name on those said mustangs.
      The euro Shelby is not considered a genuine Shelby in the world of Mustang enthusiasts.
      They have no Shelby build plate, they are not numbered and they for sure do not appear in the Shelby book.
      They wouldn't bring Shelby dollars either...
