Angelina's ability to take her time with a song is just a thing of beauty. It shows such control, and such a love for the music... and such a deep understanding of the artform itself. One would think it impossible for a 10 year old to be able to "contain" it the way she does... but she was even doing this at 8 (see "bang bang" NGT) and 9 (see "my funny valentine" live outdoor)
Great reaction and insights! There is a discussion among “angels” which of Angelina’s versions of “Summertime” that is the best. No matter, I say. All are great. But personally I consider the others diamonds in the rough, while this is pure brilliance - extremely well rehearsed, not a note or moment left to chance. Angelina almost always prefers a slower tempo on most covers. There are rehearsal clips of her taking issue with conductors and band leaders who try to hurry. She's always very respectful and polite, but in the end she always gets her way.
Yep!! They don't call her the boss 4 NOTHING!! I stated the same thing on other reaction video's. She is well respected with all the band's she has worked with. I think Angelina is very respectful towards these band members because she KNOWS these ppl. have been performing a lot longer than she has been alive! Give her family props 4 raising her.
As far as I can see, there has always been a lot of mutual respect: The seasoned musicians soon learned that what LOOKED like a child actually knew what she was about - and apparently she always managed to get her point across in a polite and unpretentious manner.
👩🏻🎤🎵🌎⭐️🇳🇴❤️ Very beautiful version of Summertime here by Angelina. Like some others have mentioned, I also recommend that you listen to her performance of Summertime when she was 8 for the finals of Norway's Got Talent. It is absolutely stunning.
Since you obviously love jazz, consider Angelina's cover of the Cole Porter classic "Every Time We Say Goodbye" in the style of Ella Fitzgerald. She sang it on an Oslo rooftop for a morning TV show at the age of 10. This one song got me through the darkest days of Covid shutdown last year. It is always in my top 5 Angelina songs, which can be a fluid list, yet this one is always on it. th-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/w-d-xo.html
Sir, funfakt, AJ designs and sews all of her "stage-clothes" herself. In Norway it is thought, to be a high honor to be invited by KORK (the orchestra) to this concert. But as is written here before AJ worked many times with them. So I am not sure who is feeling more honored AJ or KORK because AJ was pronounced the national treasure of Norway. No Kidding, a Norwegian assured me of that. Stay save and healthy, german greetings.
🤠 I've only listened to a little of Amy Winehouse because of the lyrics. I don't think they are appropriate at any age. Angelina covers so much of Amy Winehouse that I would like to listen to her to get more insight into her singing. Also because so many of the Angel's react to the similarity between their voices. It is too difficult for me. Respectfully, me.
Wow...' I have never seen Angelina doing Summertime. I have know Idea how I missed it. This was fabulous. How beautiful this was, to all my senses. Great review.
MrLBoyd - Yes, Right? What a performance, indeed! And Yes! The band is absolutely exquisite! I have to take a moment, however, and tell you that I only recently discovered your reactions to Angel-Angelina :-) Your reactions and the intelligent comments you make about music and vocals are absolutely REFRESHING! I enjoy your integrity, transparency, and knowledge-based editorial in your reactions! THANK YOU FOR EKPPING IT REAL, my friend! You just gained a new subscriber!!!! PEACE, MrLBoyd :-)
KORK is the orchestra of the national Norwegian broadcaster NRK. Several summers they had a program series on Norwegian television called "NRK Ønskekonsert med KORK". (Make a wish for a song-concert). The part with Angelina singing "Summertime" was broadcast on Aug 13, 2016, but recorded on Jun 22, 2016. There were no other songs with Angelina broadcast. It was recorded at Ingierstrand Bad Restaurant in Svartskog, along the shores of the Oslofjord, just south of the capital. Summertime with Angelina was wished by the host himself, Atle Antonsen. Back to Black with KORK is also great
I had an amazing day today. And it was topped off with this beautiful performance of Gershwin’s “Summertime”, accompanied by your excellent, informative commentary. Thank you.
Loved your reaction. This orchestra is: Kringkastings orkesteret (KORK). It's our broadcasting (radio/tv orchestra). Angelina has sung with KORK more than this time. Angelina is out of this world.. love from Norway 🇳🇴
When you see nrk in one corner or a 2 in another corner, the sound will be excellent as these are broadcast quality. A good number of her concert and cover songs have been enhanced by fans and usually are indicated in the titles....happy to have a reactor who actively comments on quality and musicianship as well.
Hi MrLboyd, thanks a billion for this very professional and analytical reaction to Angelina Jordan - I hope to see many more from you :-D All the best wishes from Germany Andreas
Beautiful song, beautifully performed and beautiful reaction as always. Struggling to keep up with you sir. But keep them coming. I love how extremely knowledgeable you are of all songs covered. 😃
The Norwegian Radio Orchestra (KORK) consist of highly skilled classical musicians and it is an honour to be invited to sing with them. A fun fact: the string accompaniment at her song "Million Miles" is played by Trondheimssolistene, which is a chamber group from the string section of Trondheim Symphonic Orchestra, also from Norway. It seems that Stargate use them when string backup is needed. Maybe because one of the Stargate founders are from Trondheim. And yet another fun fact, it was Trondheimssolistene which accompanied Aurora at her beautiful concert in Nidarosdomen in 2019 :-)
The orchestra is KORK, the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. I believe she has done multiple performances with them. Gershwin is one of my favorite composers. I love Angelina's rendition of this classic.
KORK is one of just two full-time professional orchestra in Norway. We of course have a lot of musicians in Norway, but being 5 million people theres just no room for more full-time orchestras. That explains why they are so good - getting a spot there is no easy goal :)
@@TheBjornwilly I have to correct you on this Bjørn. Norway has 8 professional symphonic orchestras and in addition 18-19 semiprofessional ones. ref no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Symfoniorkester .
You should listen to the same song but from when she was I think 7-years old and in the competition Norway's got talent ... That version is even better
Kia ora Bro, hey I just came across this young wahine on you tube, she is quite amazing I'm definately enjoying her journey, just like Harry Mack Awesome energies and I notice you on both of these peoples sites which says a lot for you. I hadn't heard this version. When dealing with Angelina, later is no indication of where she goes with it. Her version at 8 from NGT was a lot more Etta and Frank yet still Angelina. Thank you for finding this 💎 Sincerely appreciate your addition to the mix. Maybe do the other one next as a comparison? That would be fun while this is still ringing in our ears. Really again, great job.
Everyone there politely clapping after watching complete perfection. Angelina has set the bar to making this tune come to life soooooo high after this performance. It is hard to imagine anything that could top this moment.
Thanks a lot for another great reaction video! I would love to see your reaction to Angelina's cover of "Every time we say good-bye", recorded for TV on a rooftop in Oslo.
That's the same conductor for at least 3 of her covers. He did It's a Man's World this and one other that escapes me. IMHO This is the most beautiful version if all I've heard. It has briught me to tears. And the last few notes if nothing else reach into my soul.
Angelina's Rule of Tempo: 10% slower allows 5x as much feeling and emotion to be conveyed. To sing either slowly or piano (softly) is difficult, to combine them much more so. Then Angelina dips down to pp, even ppp, passages here (with the stellar orchestra at proper levels behind her) always with her usual amazing timing and the result is exquisite. Nice reaction! Your appreciation for Angelina is evident and your musical knowledge impressive. Now that you are covering more of her portfolio, please investigate and comment on her musical range and versatility. To underscore and help with that, please react to her on her original songs "7th Heaven", Million Miles", and "Shield" (the last from 12yo). Also her covers of "A Song For A" (actually written for her), "Diamonds Are Forever", "Wicked Game (she accompanies herself on the piano), "Above the Water", and Angelina at 8yo doing "I'm A Fool To Want You" (a cappella at Norway's Got Talent).
its really really good. luxury listening. its just a real joy to see all this unfold. to see artists gathering and supporting this prodigy is wonderful. to see entire communities investing time and energy to have the arts alive and well in thier lives.
She is amazing.... I can't wait until she fully peaks cause it's not even close she's been perfect since 7ish and I'm addicted to her captivating voice.
I've been following Angelina for a good 6 years.. I found a song last night that I've never heard before.. Just when you think you couldn't be blown away, search for "I'm Still Holding out for You"
One of my favorite jazz covers by Angelina is of Cole Porter's "Everytime We Say Goodbye" based on the 1958 Ella Fitzgerald arrangement. The video was filmed on the rooftop of an Oslo TV station, just Angelnia and a guitarist. ~ th-cam.com/video/KRSI8HmTHJA/w-d-xo.html
From George Gershwin's 1935 play, PORGY & BESS. Broadway and theaters since have staged it in dozens of formats over the decades. I prefer this version because the orchestra plays it like the tune of the river on a summer's day. Her NGT version is a karaoke version with a live trumpeteer, at twice the tempo. You should hear that, if not for a reaction then certainly for your own comparative analysis.
@@nfpnone8248 Except the canned backing track. One trumpet player does not an orchestra make. She uses canned backing tracks in most of her videos - Whitney Houston, etc.
I loved those references to older renditions of this song. It shows that you don't only react, but also provide information and music talk. But I think you didn't mean Etta James, but rather Ella Fitzgerald in the 50's.
Angelina was 10 years old when she did this version. You could also check out her Norway Got Talent final version when she was just 8 years old. That version is more like the Etta James style and Angelina only had a guitar for backing.
The whole arrangement is just a treat to listen to. Angelena always sings with pure clarity and remains relaxed. Angelinas voice has so much texture and skill and it is like discovering somebody all over again every time we hear her. Thanks again for a spot-on reaction. I am sorry that I’m always late in responding but I seem to get the notifications hours after.
Your music knowledge is brilliant, I get to learn a bit AND listen to one of the best musicians in human history. She is an absolute musical genius. I think she is 11 here?
This is in Norway and the band is KORK. Angelina has done Back to Black with them. The back story on that song is that her mum said those words are inappropriate for a little girl. Angelina changed the words in the back of the car on the way to the recording and that’s why she’s reading the words whilst singing in the recording.
Excellent reaction to a beautiful performance by this young prodigy. I’m told that it is an honor to perform with KORK, and Angelina has done it at least twice. Since you obviously appreciate good music, I highly recommend that you listen to “A Song For A” written for her to sing by Nico Cartosio, and accompanied by the London Symphony. It’s a lyric video, so you won’t see her singing, but the music and video are true ear and eye candy.
Ear Candy is a very good way to describe this. Not to mention Stress Crusher. But why, when she sings that last 'don't you cry' at the end, do I always have to wipe away a tear? LOL
Congratulations MrLboyd, I must admit that his reactions with this beautiful girl are definitely very stimulating and interesting, I hope to be able to see many more, the material is not in short supply for sure, in these few years Angelina has worked hard and she has done it many wonderful interpretations. This is definitely her slower and sweeter version of Summertime, but you can find two more from 2014 that are in pure jazz style including the NGT ending. What has always fascinated me about this little girl, in addition to the absolutely unique talent and the sweet human side, is her incredible ability, from the very first performances, to read and deconstruct the songs she chooses, developing them in an absolutely incredible way (even for age ), she doesn't need colorful or redundant shows, just a simple accompaniment is enough to create the magic. Surely her original ones deserve your reaction or "Wicked Games", or another hundred songs ❤️ 😂
Such a lovely comment Claudio, I feel that you have said so much in just one paragraph that explains the essence of Angelina, how she is the complete package, she has captivated our hearts and minds.
Yo, it's a small orchestra, Dear, not a band.... There's a video of her, with a full orchestra practicing FLY ME TO THE MOON, (arrangement by Quincy Jones) that she ultimately performed fir his 85th birthday.. again, she was only 12, but her brain must've been ecstatic having the orchestra backing her vocals. .this particular version made me feel I was at an classical concert... There's nothing like hearing live... Beautiful... So happy you covered this . I'm going through as many reactions of hers as possible, liking it, adding comments and listening to the end .. I want to help build up the data upon which really helps her . It'll really count by the time she releases her first album maybe this year... Thnx for you reactions, listening is ear candy for sure!!!! 🎤🎹🎶🎵🎶🎹🎤🎵🎶🎵🎶PEACE!!
The arrangement and playing were without fault, as was Angelina's performance. Although I've witnessed it hundreds of times after finding Angelina almost three years ago, I'm still amazed at her intuitive grasp of a songs essence, and her ability to sing it in a way that touches the heart and soul every time (or at least mine). Just subscribed - excellent observations. Cheers.
You need to listen to "Summertime" her rendition at Norway's Got Talent. Also listen to her acapella version of "I'm a fool to want you" at Norway's Got Talent.
I really appreciate your extensive knowledge of the musical roots Angelina is drawing on. When (not if) you react to Wicked Games, pls be aware there are 2 videos. The music is the same, but the fan video is much more in the spirit of the song. The other one has cute pix of Angelina: great to look at but not while you're listening to a wrenching song of heartbreak!
You need to listen to the version that she did when she was competing in Norway's Got Talent. Much better in my opinion although this version is terrific in its own way.
Would love to hear your reaction to Angelina Jordan's "Million Miles", a song she wrote about her grandfather. I feel that the Live In Studio video is better than the official Music Video.
🤠 I've always thought of the last 3 "don't you cry" as the most difficult part of the song as far as timing goes. I'm still amazed when I listen to it on Norway's got talent at 8 yo!😯
If I'm not mistaken she based her version on the Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong rendition (late fifties). Although it's slowed down here indeed. It's more obvious on her Norway's Got Talent performance (which I recommend you check out as well). The orchestra here is Kork I think?
Hello Maarten. I saw the opera "Porgy and Bess" in Lübeck. A wonderful opera and Anglina stuck to the original score. When I hear her sing I am drawn to where I heard this opera.
Maarten. It may be a similar version of Ella Fitzgerald, but I think the original score was used here. I know the opera and that's why I believe that it stuck more to the original here.
No, you do not understand! Please listen to the original score of the opera, not Ella's or anyone else's. Here the original aria from Porgie an Bess by George Gershwin.
You will find Gershwin wrote the piece to be performed at this pace. It's supposed to be a hot, lazy, southern summer day. The dog-days of summer. Angelina will invariably honor the composer or the artist who made it famous, especially if it's n old standard or jazz piece.
Absolutely brilliant
This is honestly the only time I have ever been less than overwhelmed with Angelina simply because her performance in the Norway's Got Talent version of this same song just can't be beaten...not even by herself. Of course I may be biased; that was my first encounter with Ms. Jordan's talent.

But I think you didn't mean Etta James, but rather Ella Fitzgerald in the 50's.
This is one of my favorite Angelina songs. She is very happy with it.
Angelina was 10 years old when she did this version. You could also check out her Norway Got Talent final version when she was just 8 years old. That version is more like the Etta James style and Angelina only had a guitar for backing.
see her "Summertime" version in her 2007 performance at Norway's Got Talent 2007
Yup !
Check out her original Million Miles that she wrote for her grandad who passed.
Ear Candy is a very good way to describe this. Not to mention Stress Crusher. But why, when she sings that last 'don't you cry' at the end, do I always have to wipe away a tear? LOL
I love your comments. They are informative and very helpful ❤
You are the most intelligent reactor working today. This performance was at the Noble Awards.
Sublime.
Candy..
Yes. Most good singers are like enjoying a Hershey bar but listening to her is like enjoying Godivas...thats the difference to me....
Great comment and I totally agree with you
You need to listen to the version that she did when she was competing in Norway's Got Talent. Much better in my opinion although this version is terrific in its own way.
This is just one of her renditions of this piece.
Just started listening and love to listen to her great songs and voice is tremendous.
If you watch her perform this song during her NGT competition it's the quicker Etta James version, much more jazz.
Angelina Jordan can also sing in Japanese and it’s stunning!
Experimenting with tempo here, she is happiest with live musicians rather than soundtracks.
Thanks for your Angelina Jordan reactions. Are you compiling a playlist for your reactions to her songs?
Would love to hear your reaction to Angelina Jordan's "Million Miles", a song she wrote about her grandfather. I feel that the Live In Studio video is better than the official Music Video.
Amizing
🤠 I've always thought of the last 3 "don't you cry" as the most difficult part of the song as far as timing goes. I'm still amazed when I listen to it on Norway's got talent at 8 yo!😯
Please react to Angelina Jordan feeling good. (Charles)
take a look at her song ..i am still holding out for you..you be spellbound by a 10 year old who will hold you and not be able to understand.
please react to this one AWESOME : )
First time in person that way it was different but good man with great voice is always good
If I'm not mistaken she based her version on the Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong rendition (late fifties).
When I hear her sing I am drawn to where I heard this opera.
yes it is ella/louis version
Maarten. It may be a similar version of Ella Fitzgerald, but I think the original score was used here. I know the opera and that's why I believe that it stuck more to the original here.
@@zulax001 Agreed. The version AJ did on NGT is closer to Louis/Ella with the trumpet opening still very similar
