Echoing the sentiment of what a great forking video and how to this is...have been trying to take my mixer in for service for years and finally was like, I'm sure I can do this myself. Well, thanks to you, I can and did! Thank you!

Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this!! It was so easy to follow and use as a guide during the process. I watched the series last week and it was explained so clearly that I felt like I could do it myself and now I can say I know my mixer inside and out. I have never done anything like it before and my husband appreciates a task removed from his list. He even suggested "that younger dude on TH-cam that knows all about the mixers and mods them, I think" which is funny because he has admittedly never given the mixer a second thought 😂

Thank you! I have a 1995 K5SS. I've never serviced it, and I am the original owner. It just started squeaking and leaking last week, so I pulled it apart and ordered your grease and gasket kit. Amazingly, my gears were in great shape, but the grease was just starting to lose viscosity. I cleaned it up and changed the grease with the help of your videos. It now purrs lite a kitten! PS, I make double batches of sourdough in this thing!
I can offer a little advice about putting the silver planetary ring back on. It did fight me for awhile. I noticed tiny marks on the inside of the ring that correspond to little "bumps" on the mixer head. I filed a little of the paint off the bumps, then lined up the bumps and the marks. Turning the mixer on its head also helped. I was able to easily tap the ring back on, and it is still tight to the mixer head. Hope this helps someone out.

These 3 tutorials were spot on. I appreciated the tips included at various spots in the videos, like examining the various gears. I went from knowing nothing about the mixer’s insides, to doing a complete take down, cleaning, regreasing, and reassembly in about 4 hours. I highly recommend Mr. Mixer tutorials. Thanks.

Thanks for the great tutorials. Like another commenter my inherited mixer was manufactured by Hobart and has all metal gears, perhaps explaining why it runs like a monster after 40+ years and also why it is very noisy. It looked like the planetary gears had never been lubed and I hope it will run quieter after the relube takes effect. Maybe because it is so old I ended up using a gear puller to get the planetary component completely off when prying just wouldn't finish the job. The electric wire grommet on mine is nylon and was a bear to pry out of it's half leading to some concerns that I was going to rip the wiring apart in the other half while trying to get them separated.

Anyone struggling with the ring. Put it on at an angle. And hit it with hammer half way around. Right where it starts to overlap. Holding the other side so it doesnt just rotate.. This forces out the front part and hammer it around to the front till its on. Took me an hour to figure that out.

I had already ordered my grease on amazon though, it was 4 oz and it seemed to be more than enough. Hardest part was getting the pin out the first step. I definitely suggest having the hole punch tools or I don’t think it would have come out. Second was I had to use a channel locks to loosen the stand nuts. Thanks for these videos, such a great resource to have! I have just purchased an early 1970s K5-A, which is mechanically in great shape but needs a good service. There seems to be very little in terms of parts distributors over here in the UK though unfortunately.
At 14:50 you mention about the metal swarf that can appear in the planetary pin hole. Is this something to be concerned about, and what is the likely origin of this? I have the same but can't seem to track down where it has come from.

I was surprised my gears were still in good shape when I took my mixer apart with the way it was sounding. I do have a question about my speeds though. Sometimes that screw can be a pain, I generally use an adjustable wrench to hold the agitator shaft (the part that the beaters go up on) and get a wide blade screw driver. You may consider just a bit of wd40 on that screw and let it sit for a bit to penetrate and it should come off

Hello, your video was very informative. Thanks for that.I replaced the complete pinion setup and re greased the entire mixer. It went together well but its still geary sounding. Almost like its coming from the planetary gear area. Wound you have any suggestions? Thank you..

I'd be suspecting the bearing bracket especially if it's a low growl sound that goes away as the speed increases

What if you put everything back together, no extra parts left & it doesn’t turn on?😮 No wires are pinched.
One step I did miss in the disassembly was to detach the end of the power cord, where clips in the back. I need to go back & back make sure none of the connections came lose. Any other ideas?
Question - what the black screw area on each side of the top of the machine?
    Thanks

Under the black screws are the carbon motor brushes, if you removed them, they can be inserted wrong which would result in no power! Check out our motor bush video!

Thank you for your videos! I have a KA stand mixer that I have had better than 10 years, used lightly, but never knew to care for it in this way. Your eye for detail has me thinking that I can do this! I have noticed that the tilt head now bounces up and down A LOT even if run with no dough load, so I am concerned what that might mean. What might that be? I would guess that should be addressed before the cleaning and degreasing, so as not to have to do it twice.

When you're putting it back together, is the first gear you are doing the one you replaced? It looks different than it did before. Is that the one that looked bad in the taking it apart video?

    • @MrMixer316
      @MrMixer316  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

It's likely because the materials used for the gears have changed over the years. The first one was likely black and it was nylon and the new yellow one is nylon/Kevlar blend

Watched all 3 parts about how to disassemble the Kitchen Aid mixer, clean it, and reassemble it. Think that I can do it now. Not sure how to connect with you to get the grease and possibly a new gear or two if needed. Can you send me the address and catalog of parts/prices for the K45SS Kitchen Aid/Hobart mixer to get the grease and possible gears that I might need, etc...? Thinking that I may just need the grease but will take a look at the mixer before ordering. Thanks.

Great videos on regreasing the mixer! Ugh since when did Kitchen Aid go Chrysler on us? Plastic gear on that replacement part?? Hint, order several, the rest of the mixer will outlive that gear. Hmmm that grease looks like marshmallow fluff, don’t let your kids into your shop when you are regreasing the mixer gears. Will wear on the two washers on the main shaft under the main gear cause the planetary assembly to drop down over time causing the mixer paddle to loose its white coating? Have that issue with a SKM5 ProLine mixer where the planetary assembly appears to have dropped down over the years. I can push it up with my fingers and it will raise by at least 1/8”.

it doesnt actually spin, the shaft spins within it, however if you put a glob of grease in there it wont close up properly, it wouldnt hurt to put a small dab on the upper portion of the shaft!
