Hi Mr Mixer. I want to thank you for your 3 part video on greasing Kitchen Aid heavy duty pro. My things were in storage for a time in Phoenix AZ. So when my things got to me in N.H. and unpacked there was grease all over the packing that leaked out of the machine. It's so hot in PHX I get it. I didn't want to use it until I knew it was ok. So I found you. Just regreased followed your video. Your video was perfect. Also cute family. I'm 66 year old retired grandmother. Thank you vary much.

Mr. Mixer rocks. His videos helped me through my K5-ss repair and regrease like no others I found on TH-cam. I wish I knew about him before I started. I found he has parts and food-grade grease for sale too. He also provided me with expert advice when I found two screws left over from my repair. He's funny in a corny way, but as a young dad, he needs to be. Congrats on your growing family. Support Mr. Mixer, a true American patriot!

Mr. Mixer: I received this amazing KitchenAid model as a hand-me-down because the power switch wouldn't stay in the off position. Kind of a hazard with kids helping me in the kitchen! I found a video of someone taking theirs apart and saw what a relatively simple fix it would be. I got really excited and made it most of the way through before I realized that my model was different and I was at a standstill. And then I found your videos! I was able to get down to the core, no problem whatsoever. (Watching your series of 3 videos sure made me wish I had a tub of that awesome grease!) And it was so wonderful to have a tutorial for putting it back together, in case I mixed up any steps or screws. I am so thrilled to have this hardy mixer that works completely. And now that the surgery is over, I can say that it was such a gratifying experience -- thanks to you!!

Thank you for this great tutorial. I also found additional help at the KitchenAid mixer group on FB. I had a great deal of trouble getting the four #3 Phillips head screws off, but using a ratchet for torque and then applying heat from a hair dryer on the most gunked up one of the four did the trick. These videos were truly so well done. Thank you, again.

If you mark the drip break with its exact position on the planetary before removing it, it may reassemble just...a bit easier. Tape would probably be suffice. I'm sure a dry erase would work but would get rubbed off during the re-greasing and cleaning.

Hi Mr. Mixer, I recently purchased a K5SS stand mixer, without attachments. I ordered a set but the flat beater was hitting the bottom of the bowl. I used the bowl height screw, but I turned it too much and the screw fell out from the inside. I also must have turned it the wrong way, because now the other two attachments hit the bowl. Is it possible for me to repair this myself?

Great video! Beautiful work! I just received a K5SS. The previous owner spray painted the mixer. Could you advise on whats the best way to remove the paint to bare metal before spray painting it? There is also some rusting on the bottom. Will sanding be enough to remove the rust?

    • @MrMixer316

Being 2 months old, I'm sure you've already done this, but for future people that ask I thought I would share my experience on this.
The original finishes of all Kitchenaid mixers are powder coating. That means they are baked on. While it isn't impossible to remove them to the metal it will take a lot of work. Chemical peels or baking it could remove it. Sanding will take forever.
I recommend just burnishing up the finish so the paint will have a surface to stick to. It worked wonders for mine.

I recently found and bought a used *"K5SS AS"* (wondering what the "AS" denotes- maybe the color? It's an off white... maybe "almond?")
Anyway, your video is the ONLY VIDEO I have found, or even made a reference to the K5SS, that shows the *"HEAVY DUTY"* on the trim band. You mentioned it's the successor to the K5S. *Any idea what year those Heavy Duty successors were built from?*
Needless to say, I was thrilled to see my machine on your video! Although, your green mixer makes me wonder if it *IS* the same mixer as the vibrant green color makes me think yours is newer.
I found my mixer at a thrift store with the attachments AND bowl - all for $75 out the door!
Can't wait to attempt to disassemble it and regrease it! It's my new *FAVORITE* KitchenAid mixer!
ALSO, is the *"Heavy Duty"* 325 watt motor a D/C or an A/C motor? *Is there a way an ordinary person can decipher that?*
I read that a 325 watt D/C motor has more torque than a 325 watt A/C motor. Any thoughts?
Thank you!!! Keep making these videos! You're the *KING of KitchenAid!*

Good find! That's a good price as this is one the best if not the best model you can own. AS would be the color but off the top of my head I don't know what color that is. They ran from 1978 til the early 2000s, I'm not sure the exact date they they removed them from the lineup, it's a 325 watt AC motor. The only mixers that kitchenaid sold with DC is the 7qt proline and 8qt commercial. If you turn it over and there is a sticker on the bottom with a serial number, I could get you an exact year

Have you hit it from both sides? Hit it really hard? If it still won't budge we generally drill them out but its not super common. Worse case we can get you a new planetary, they are relatively inexpensive!

@@MrMixer316 Thank you for the quick response! And yes I had hit it on both sides (very hard). I ended up drilling it out. I was surprised by how easy it was, I just gave it a center punch and worked my way up sizes. The Iron was very soft and I managed not to damage the planetary :)
I started this because I bought the machine used and cheap. It is making an awful noise and I now know it isn't the gears because they look good. I'll still re-grease them. I think the motor is just a bit loose., I ran it without the gears and noticed the noise disappeared when I put pressure on the stator. It's definitely a vibration noise, going to see if you have a video on the matter already or at least one to remove the motor.

@@MrMixer316 The penetrating oil soaked overnight and the rubber mallet didn't do anything, so I hit them with a regular hammer as hard as I could. Then they came loose. The hammer didn't hurt the screws at all.

Hi Mr. mixer. I have a question for you. I have two artisan mini mixers that I acquired from an auction and upon inspection discovered they were display models. It appears that they are missing two components the cord and what I believe to be The speed controller. I was wondering if you have any experience with converting a display model to a working model. Also I follow you on TikTok.

Yes but it will likely be fairly expensive due to parts

      Are they worth parting out?

@@cardude2191984 probably so, especially with bowls and attachments, but it would be like $125 minimum just for parts
