I think this was one of my favorite cooking segments with Felicia and Robin, if only for the comedic value. You guys really should have a regular cooking show.
It takes extra time to preheat when you are using a baking stone (you are preheating the stone also), of course how long it takes depends on your oven, the thickness of the stone, etc etc.
As somebody who recently started making bread, I had similar reactions when i started reading all of the crazy terms and times, but its actually really easy (play a game with a pause function for the short time waiting or longer mixing times), and I'm now bringing bread to work 2 or 3 times a week to work, and colleagues are bringing toppings. (meats and cheese).
Thank you for providing the weekly response to those people who apparently all missed the episode that was about announcing there wouldn't be full episodes for a while.
If anyone is interested in recreating this, just follow a basic french bread recipe. It's a lot easier than what they are doing here, your bread will rise so much more, and you'll be done in 3 hours tops. Plus, the tops your dragon tail will be nice and shiny! :)
Fun video! I will say that there are a lot of bread recipes with much shorter fermentation/rise time and simple, easy to find ingredients for anyone intimidated by the 18-hour dragon bread.
I'm always amazed when these cooking episodes actually work (sorta). It's like a magic trick. You give hope to those of us who aint so good in the kitchen.
There are 4 names for the same thing, Poolish, Biga, Sponge and Starter, they all are just a pre fermentation of yeast to get it going and help with flavor and texture. I think most people associate them with sourdough bread.
i have learned many things from this, 1st.. what a baguette couche is 2nd, what a shaft of dough looks like when the top is snipped and pulled back. and 3rd, book a solid day if i'm ever making fresh bread.
She mentioned several weeks ago (back in December) that she was going to be out filming stuff so the Flog would be an abbreviated/truncated version for a while.
I love the Cooking segments. They were my favorite and still are. Robin and Felicia are just too funny together and in the kitchen. Poor Robin, the looks she was giving for this cooking turning into 2 days worth of investment. Hilarious.
Mostly youtube. She's one of the biggest web series personalities out there. She was in Doctor Horrible's Sing-a-long blog (written and directed by Joss Whedon and worth looking up), She wrote and starred in The Guild and has now made Geek and Sundry. She's was also in a few episodes of Buffy and last few seasons of the show Eureka (also awesome).
In addition to Miller053, getting a good "crumb" (the part that makes the outside look darker brown is something most bakers have to really work for. Best way is to either add ice chips after the first 15 minutes of baking or to spray with cold tap water at 10 and then 15 minutes of baking.
The Dragon Tail Baguette is from 2010, but the clip showing the site is from some time between Feb 20 (date of that update) and Mar 3 (the next and most recent entry). So this is from a couple weeks ago.
You must have missed the episode where she said this was temporary while she was away. I'm pretty sure all these segments were recorded months ago. There won't be any newly filmed segments until Felicia returns, and the Trio Mio will return with her.
Exactly. Plus, a long-running web show probably can't afford to go off the air for months in between seasons, people wouldn't know when to come back or something. Although I wonder if the episode numbering will go on endlessly or we'll have Season 2 at some point.
Actually, I believe she's just not doing the Trio Mio and whatnot because she's travelling and working on projects, but she's still doing big segments! ^w^ She mentions it in the Goat episode.
Robin and Felicia should apply for the next season of the Food Network's Worst Cooks in America. Chefs Bobby and Anne would whip them into shape and it would be loads of fun to watch.
Just sat in a cafe on my lunch break giggling like a girl into my coffee. Feliciano and Robin, you have made my day! I'm gunna make me some dragon bread.
For the record: I have never, in quite a few years of baking, made traditional yeast bread that was less than two hours from dough to oven. If you've made any type of traditional bread in an hour, you're either omitting a step or your house is bordering on being a sauna.
Always read any recipe completely before starting! Think of it as a quest: you don't want to fight your way through a hundred level dungeon, be teleported to the Plane of Demons and find the Throne of Darkness, only to go "Oh, I'm supposed to hold up the Amulet of Yendor?! I left that at home!" Recipe writers are fond of instructions like "Now add to the frying pan the such-and-such, which you have marinated for at least 24 hours in a mixture of ...." Sadists, all of them!
Whatching you guys cook is freakin hilarious!! I'm watching you and hearing my Home Ec teachers voice in the back of my head yelling "you're doing it wrong!" but I can't stop watching. Too much ROFLing :)
I bet that bread is still sitting up in the G&S offices, practically untouched in the last few months since this episode was filmed, probably in the same room with the cameo soap.
Powerful poolish pixies persistently procure payback (2:27). Agree with Robin's accessory (assuming it contains a highly caffeinated substance). My belief is that any recipe that does not have a dedicated button on the microwave requires a minimum ingestion of two very large coffees by the preparer.
i love every show from geekandsundry. these episodes are my favorite though. I honestly wish I could contribute work to make sure all these shows keep going. being on the east coast tho, sucks. : P
Wild Yeast? Sounds like some sort of infection. AYYYY YOOOO! My bad...It was just too easy. Thanks. You've been a great audience, I'll be here all week.
Felicia I just purchased tickets to C2E2! I was a little on a fence about going, as I have absolutely no one to go with, but then I saw you AND Amber Benson were going to be there and I put aside my irrational (not really that irrational) of being in a large city alone and purchased a ticket. I'm quite excited!
It was a bit undercooked. The structure was there. If they wanted to make the top all browned & awesome looking, you coat it in an egg wash. That helps with browning.
Well, when you consider that she has been out of the country, this was the alternative to no Flog at all. Personally, I was happy to see alerts for new episodes in my Inbox.
And Robin perfectly knew it was going to take two days (they probably arranged to film something else in the meantime). It's like having to explain stuff to 6-year-olds. :) "Don't worry, honey, the rabbit didn't really disappear in the magician's hat!"
I know a clone of her that runs a hair salon. Highly inappropriate people are good luck charms. Like little people only less social guilt. Everybody needs one.
It's a show. She was joking while making the show. She didin't preheated the oven for that long and didn't leave the hoven turn on while she wasn't home. :)
When you make yeast bread, traditionally you let it rise, then beat the crap out of it, then let it rise again, and knead it before you start shaping the loaf. That's what probably went wrong. Oven might have needed to be hotter too. Also, poolish is new to me. Heard it referred to as a 'starter' before.
y'all must really wanted to make this bread!! On another topic - just watched, again, the DVD of Red: Wereweolf Hunter. So when's the next installment/chapter/episode?
as professional artisan bread baker and an intense fan of Felicia, If you ever read these, bring me on and i will teach you in a brick oven bakery how to make some of the neatest things out of bread you can imagine, including an actual dragon. Well, a bread dragon.
Exactly, when properly shaped (with folding, paying attention to seams, etc), it would have created some tension on the surface (gluten cloak) that would have helped it keep it's shape better. I'm by no means an expert, but (coincidentally) have been playing around with bread baking lately, and specifically baguettes so have been doing a lot of reading/video watching, as well as experimenting. :)
LMFAOOO Robin is so DONE this entire video! I love her omg
S R Me too! She's so cute! She seems like some one that would be a lot of fun to know. Felicia does too though!
Oh my I fuckin love Robin and Felicia in this video. Robin has a lot of patience
Seriously, the cooking/baking with Felicia & Robin, are the best episodes ever.
I think this was one of my favorite cooking segments with Felicia and Robin, if only for the comedic value. You guys really should have a regular cooking show.

(meats and cheese).
By the way, the bread knife is for cutting the bread after it's done, not the dough. Love these video! :)
i was laughing so hard i cried. As somebody that is obsessed with baking bread this was so much fun. I think I will have to watch it again...
Felicia PLEASE invite Robin Thorsen in for more videos! You two have an amazing chemistry and together make me cry tears of laughter :D
Thank you for providing the weekly response to those people who apparently all missed the episode that was about announcing there wouldn't be full episodes for a while.

1:33 "I mean it looks like I would not want my thighs to look like that" Girl to the left..sighhhh..
Love when the mixer went nuts and Robin calmly steps back out of the way while Felicia gets sprayed!
There are 4 names for the same thing, Poolish, Biga, Sponge and Starter, they all are just a pre fermentation of yeast to get it going and help with flavor and texture. I think most people associate them with sourdough bread.
Felicia Day inadvertently kidnaps Robin Thorsen for an entire day. "You will be paying for lunch!"
i have learned many things from this, 1st.. what a baguette couche is 2nd, what a shaft of dough looks like when the top is snipped and pulled back. and 3rd, book a solid day if i'm ever making fresh bread.
The first time I made bread I think I spent a week researching and planning so I knew all the steps, terms, etc. Good job for winging it!
She mentioned several weeks ago (back in December) that she was going to be out filming stuff so the Flog would be an abbreviated/truncated version for a while.
Too funny, I love it when these two cook together. :)
i love the cooking with Robin. it should be its own show every week. but with even more drinking.
I love you Felicia, Robin, dragon bread baking, and Geek & Sundry. :D
I want this segment to be its own show! XD I'd watch it every week!
I love the Cooking segments. They were my favorite and still are. Robin and Felicia are just too funny together and in the kitchen. Poor Robin, the looks she was giving for this cooking turning into 2 days worth of investment. Hilarious.

'Livin' the dream.' Oh Robin, you are adorable!

This must be the most fun way to level up cooking.
As ever Felicia & Co your first attempts at everything are brilliant! You clever bunch of people! :D
in the guild when codex tells zaboo that he needs to some levelling? To me this whole clip is Felicia grinding her baking skill.
I totally agree. I was very concerned when she decided to start preheating her oven while they went to have lunch.
miss the full episodes but the ikea building with jeff was absolutely hilarious and redeemed this show.
You must have missed the episode where she said this was temporary while she was away.
I'm pretty sure all these segments were recorded months ago. There won't be any newly filmed segments until Felicia returns, and the Trio Mio will return with her.
I have never made bread before, but now I am inspired. Not snarky, really will do it. I mean it.
lol I love how chill Robin is
i'm crying laughing at how badly you guys are executing this! hahahahaomg !
I will always watch these. You two are adorable and awesome.
This was one of the best yet - yay!
Awesome well done Felicia you did better than I would have!
Exactly. Plus, a long-running web show probably can't afford to go off the air for months in between seasons, people wouldn't know when to come back or something. Although I wonder if the episode numbering will go on endlessly or we'll have Season 2 at some point.

Except for that whole "panic and crap yourself" thing, you guys did fairly well with your first starter raised bread.
This was the best kitchen episode ever! Robin is awesome!
My little guy and I have wanted to make bread for a while now, I think dragontail bread is on the agenda now..!
"uh huh, yeah, I see it. Look at that dragon tail." LOL oh Robin!
Always read any recipe completely before starting!
Think of it as a quest: you don't want to fight your way through a hundred level dungeon, be teleported to the Plane of Demons and find the Throne of Darkness, only to go "Oh, I'm supposed to hold up the Amulet of Yendor?! I left that at home!"

As a baker who loves to make bread I found this hilarious.....especially the murdering of the dough... lol. #bakingproblems
I bet that bread is still sitting up in the G&S offices, practically untouched in the last few months since this episode was filmed, probably in the same room with the cameo soap.
Now that is a show I would watch, "Cooking with Felicia and Robin".
I'm convinced Felicia made the whole crew sit there and watch the bread rise and the oven preheat while her and Robin went out for lunch.
i miss these!! do these again!
Powerful poolish pixies persistently procure payback (2:27). Agree with Robin's accessory (assuming it contains a highly caffeinated substance). Thanks. You've been a great audience, I'll be here all week.
This is the best thing I have ever seen. EVER.
you guys should with Robins parents, holy shit the pics she posts when shes there :D
"It tastes like bread" - I think that's a win.
You two are just AWESOME pure AWESOME!
As a baker, I just couldn't stop laughing at this episode. Thank you Felicia!
Felicia I just purchased tickets to C2E2! in any given situation where the outcome is certain, put felicia day in it and you will have many possible alternate endings
That 'thing' you needed is called a peel and extra bonus points for putting your bread on the pizza stone
Ha! wild yeast blog is where I get my bread recipes!
Well, when you consider that she has been out of the country, this was the alternative to no Flog at all. Personally, I was happy to see alerts for new episodes in my Inbox.
The flog makes me happy, I can live with out the opening.
More cooking segments please!
Robin is absolutely adorable.
I'm supposed to be writing about the Italian Renaissance, not watching this! But this is much more fun.
It's so fun watching Felicia try to cook. But you should have saved that bread website for a Trio Mio.
Dragons and breads, two of my favorite things.
The biggest tip for folks learning how to cook/bake: Always read through the entire recipe carefully beforehand! Otherwise, this is what happens. O:)
These videos are off-season programming. The Flog will return with Trio Mio, Letters, and all of its glory.
I think this response needs to be in the description of all these vids because I've been thinking the same thing.
It's a show. She was joking while making the show. She didin't preheated the oven for that long and didn't leave the hoven turn on while she wasn't home. :)
Ahahahahaha oh my god. The amount of failures here is too hilarious/adorable.
Awesome episode! I laughed so hard I choked on my lunch :( You two make a great team
I don't know why the bread knife made me laugh so hard, but it did.
That was the most entertaining bread making ever

I love cooking with Robin and Felicia!
Love how witty Robin is
You guys make it look so easy (if time-consuming)
Love you guys!
y'all must really wanted to make this bread!!
On another topic - just watched, again, the DVD of Red: Wereweolf Hunter. So when's the next installment/chapter/episode?
You should cook Angels on Horseback for your next cooking Flog!
as professional artisan bread baker and an intense fan of Felicia, If you ever read these, bring me on and i will teach you in a brick oven bakery how to make some of the neatest things out of bread you can imagine, including an actual dragon. Well, a bread dragon.

I wanna make it!!! But scarier looking of course. More like a Dragons tail and less like a loaf of bread.
so jealous of that stove and DOUBLE OVEN
More felicia day videos!!! She is awesome and entertaining
Robin will forever be my favorite on The Guild.
