What is the 7th wonder of Portugal? Well, it's a very little town called Aldeia Rio de Onor. The town has around 60 people living there and the youngest is more than 40 years old. This is a very special place with a history and culture so rich thick books have been written about it.
We had the pleasure of talking with Mariano who is 88 years old and a kind of a chief of the town. It was incredibly insightful and one of our most authentic experiences!
    In this video we visited:
    ➡ Glamping Hills
    ➡ O Careto Restaurant
    ➡ Aldeia Rio de Onor

Thanks so much for having us, Bragança! This has been one of our greatest experiences since we moved to Portugal. Trás-os-Montes is so overseen by most people coming to Portugal, but for very poor reasons! We CANNOT wait to come back and nosedive into more amazing food, nature and great people! See you in the next one, where we finally go to Guimarães!

This sequence of videos is magnificent, everything is very well edited, the music matches perfectly as well. You are undoubtedly an excellent promoter of tourism in Portugal, I think you deserve to be more known and helped to promote the concept: "Vá para fora cá dentro", because your work is fantastic.

On your next visit to Trás-os-Montes, you two should try the Alto Tâmega region. Best time to go would be on Friday the 13th weekend. The vila of Montalegre in which there have a Dia das bruxas on every Friday the 13. The entire vila celebrates it and there is a peace of theater at the castle there followed by fireworks. On Saturday the 14th in the city of Chaves, we have the Roman day which we celebrate our ancient Roman routes. the Roman name to Chaves is Aqua Flávia. Place to also visit, Boticas, Vidago especially the Hotel Palace there, Pedras Salgadas, yes where the water is from and near where Agua de Carvalhelhos fountain is. Ribera de Pena near Vila Pouca de Aguirar which has Park Pena Aventura. Sure you also have Vila Real the region’s capital and let’s not forget Peso da Régua where you will find lodes of wineries pertaining to the Douro wine and cruises along the Douro river. I think there are enough suggestions for now.

That dialect of Rio de Onor isn't a mix of Spanish and Portugal, is a mix of Galician, Leonese and Portuguese. Spain has lots of languages and in the Western León region people in the villages don't speak Spanish, they speak Leonese, a close friend to Mirandese.

    • @avantelvsitania3359

@@diogorodrigues747 I got the feeling that you were talking about Mirandes. In this case yes. Rio D'Onor has it's specific dialect within the Mirandes / Leonese branch.
But this was common everywhere back in the days even in less remote areas. Villages apart 15km with geographical obstacles would most of the time have different dialects.
This case is more noticeable because of it's proximity with Leon.

"Cortes de Cima is a family estate located in southern Portugal. It is owned and operated by Hans and Carrie Jorgensen, a Danish American couple who in the mid-80's left a plantation career in the orient, bought a schooner, and sailed Europe looking for a place to plant a vineyard and start a family. Their choice fell on the Vidigueira region of Alentejo. In 1996 they started producing their own wines, later followed by their own olive oil. Their wines first won international recognition in 1998 with the launch of their 'illegal' single varietal Syrah, 'Incógnito'. Today their vineyards comprise 210 hectares of red and white varieties. Very enjoyable and loving it! I don't know whether it has to do with your charm, your content, stories telling, video editing etc. There is something about it! Love you guy! Keep up the good work and looking forward to see another great video. Oh! by the way as a fan of sunglasses myself, I love all the sunglasses your wear Joen! It would be great if you could let me know the brand name? Thank you xx All the best

    I have a question for you two!!😁
I know basic portuguese. I can understand a conversstion pretty well, i can read a little and speak a little but its definitely not perfect and I cant hold a conversation. If you live in Portugal for 6 months could you learn the language fast? Like, have conversations with people, order at restaurants.. etc. ?
Ps. LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. WE NEED MORE !!❤
Much love from Canada 🇨🇦 ❤

I hope you're enjoying your stay over here in Portugal! When it comes to speaking the language, I guess it's the same as any other: just get involved. People here are friendly and are used to foreigners so they'll nudge you to learn a few words and hold a conversation properly. 6 months is not enough to fully learn the language. Give it a few more months and things will start clicking! If you need help, I can sure try to help you! Speaking with natives on a regular basis is a fool-proof way to grasp the language faster! I guess that's what I did when learning how to speak the Queen's!
(lovely that you're from Canada, a country that I'd absolutely love to visit or even live!)

Did you learn Portuguese or Brazilian Portuguese ?? Normally on North America countries it's Brazilians teaching Portuguese and you learn with their accent, in Portugal you will have a difficult time understanding at the start but we will understand you really well, don't worry just come, we are patient people and almost everyone speaks English here if you don't know something in Portuguese. 6 months practising everyday will be enough to have conversations.

@@jorjlmoz5878 Both of my parents are from Averio! So I'm very familiar with native portuguese and thats what I want to learn. Here, where i am in Canada they only have very few portuguese classes or courses but its Brazilian portuguese and thats not what im interested in learning and classes are WAY over priced for only 1 hour a couple of few times a week if i can even afford that. ($50-$70 for one hour) I would much rather be surrounded by my culture to actually learn the language.! My parents spoke more portuguese when we were little but stopped because we were having trouble learning English so they didn't want to mix the two! I'm planning to move to Porto next year for 6 months to learn the language/culture all that good stuff, I also want to learnt the language so I can sing Fado 😍 and to spend more time with the family and friends that I do have there !

The biggest reason Portuguese food is so underrated compared to Spanish French and Italian is because those countries invest so much in promoting their produce (and now because the EU killed our agricultural industry). You guys are by the best promotion for portugal and especially it's cuisine...amazing!

It's amazing how the youth wants to escape their calm surroundings to explore a wilder experience which, is alright. We should experience it both but, now that I am older and, seeking calm and peace in my life....I want to experience the Portuguese and Spaniards way of living. So much beauty (Fauna and Flora), which I don't experience living in the USA near the bigger cities. Our country side is beautiful as well but, I want to escape the pollution and breath fresh air.

It’s great to watch you enjoy the beauties of our country and people. But I have to say that the dialect in Rio de Onor (Ruidenore, locally), does not belong to the Portuguese language. The local people, as well as in the neighboring villages of Deilão (Deilon), Guadramil and the Terra de Miranda speak Lionese (in Portugal known as Mirandese), a language that is spoken from there to the Asturias, in Spain. It has features of both Portuguese and Castilian, but is in fact and independent language, not just a dialect. But I understand this may seem confusing to outsiders. Anyways, I hope you continue to discover the yet unknown treasures of this beautiful land, and enjoy every moment of it.
By the way, if you are of the daring type, I would recommend you to go to Olivença, in the north Alentejo. You may find some people who disagree with the location, but it would be a very interesting adventure for sure. Best regards.

That fish, the congro, here in Algarve it is called safio. And you can only eat half of it. That's because the bottom half of the fish is filled with bones, literally inside the meat, they are not organized, just randomly inside the meat and in huge amount. Some fisherman do fry that half, and in the frying process the bones get soft and they can eat it. The same with moray eel.
