    Good luck on your new channel - fan of you both. Can I have a personal rant though about PAs? When I choose my doctor, I do a ton of research - I look at their med school, their certifications, the regulatory boards for complaints, and personal references. So now after all that research, I have a team of doctors that I really like and trust. I don't mind seeing the PA for some routine follow up stuff and when I make the choice to schedule with the PA. BUT... more and more, the PA is running interference for the doc and is sometimes hard to get past them on portal questions etc - example... I needed labs to be ordered, PA won't order without me coming in, I say... doc let's me order them ahead - these are routine... have to argue about it - then the doc orders like she always has in the past. To bypass the PA, my doc gave me their personal email. Sometimes I prefer the PA - but again it should be MY choicee when making the appointment. If I make an appointment with the doc, I don't want to go to the appointment and see only the PA. No meaning to degrade what you do or anything - you definitely have a role to play... I just want transparency.l Anyway - best of luck on the channel - I will be a follower.

I’m really interested in a program that has provisional accreditation but I’m not sure if that’s a huge risk to take or not. Also is it important that when you graduate you get an official masters degree or not? I’ve noticed some do and some don’t.
    Last question, did you do aesthetics in your rotations? How do you get into a speciality if you don’t get any experience in it during PA school in your rotations?

I could of gone the Registered Occupational therapist route which is I believe now a masters degree but in my role I get to work with more patients and do less paperwork. It is less money but thats not as important to me. I felt like I would make a difference in peoples lives and lets face it, isn't that why most of us go into healthcare? This is a great video. I believe patients should not be mislead by medical staff calling PA’s doctors, I’ve had that happen on numerous occasions the nurse will say the doctor will be in in a minute and a PA walks in, and introduce themselves as a PA. I mean a doctor is a protected title. A doctor guys to medical school, a PA goes to PA school. Two different career choices. Also, there are a shortage of doctors so we need PA’s.
    I actually like having a PA because they tend to spend more time with the patient and explain things more in depth, then a doctor who always seems to be rushed.

    ADVICE NEEDED
    Please update the video! I am struggling to make this decision. I'm 27. I graduated at 23 from undergrad, worked for a year as a phlebotomist. Then went and got my MBA during the pandemic(other issues prevented me from applying to MED/PA schools. As a 27 year old, I feel like its too late to go to medical school (especially because I will have to wait for the next application cycle, and would not start school until age 29). The idea of not making a reasonable salary until 36 seems exhausting to me. I also feel like I am the more "jack of all trades" type that could not be satisfied dedicating 60 hours a week to only one profession, an even more so, one specialty. So I guess my dilemma is that I love medicine enough to be a doctor, and the prestige excites me, but I feel like I am too late, and that maybe my personality is more in line with being a PA as I could have time to work on other interests like business, art, etc.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    I think the biggest reason that people say “I COULD have done the MD/DO route” is because they are under the misconception that the barrier to entry for medical school/physician-hood is intellect. It’s not. It’s hard fucking work and dedication, and that persists all the way through residency. What is the difference between a PA and a NP?

    • @a.d.w8385
      @a.d.w8385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The three differences I hear most are: 1. They are taught under different models of medical learning. Physician Assistants learn under the medical model, and therefore have a deeper knowledge of the science of medicine. Nurse Practitioners training under the Nursing model. This model focuses on holistic care main, care of the entire person. Focusing more on care and preventive care and aftercare. Now, both models seem to be coming together more these days. 2. I believe Physician Assistants typically do more surgical duties than NPs. 3. Physician Assistants have more lateral Mobility. They can move around from one specialty to another while NPs are certified in one specialty area, with Family Care or ER probably being the closest to being flexible with the kids of patients they see. NPs can also work independently without supervision of a Physician, though this may change due to issues.
      Aside from all that. Both have similar roles and do similar things on the medical team.

    You didn’t make a choice between the two unless you were accepted to both. It sounds more like you, amongst many others were pre-meds that chose to go an easier route. And when I say easier route that’s debatable even - the end results are completely different.
    So maybe instead say why I chose to apply to PA schools instead of MD/DO schools and be sure to include not wanting to put in the massive amount of work it takes to safely, competently, and independently practice medicine in the list of reasons

    I don't know how many times people need to hear this or what it takes for them to fully understand the fact that these positions purely and only exist in order to save corporations and greedy doctors money. There is zero benefit and only risk to the patient to be seen by a mid-level as opposed to a physician

    • @pegaseg70
      @pegaseg70 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If we follow that logic, patients shouldn't be seen by dr trainees
      A PA in a speciality is often far more knowledgeable than a trainee and that's ok, as long as they both know their strengths and limitations
      Caring for a patient is team work between all the providers
      It is safer for patients to have the whole team (nurses, CNRAs, PAs, RTs, etc), communicating and making decisions together than just have one dr making all the decisions
      Drs aren't god and don't know everything which is ok

    • @jovana2042

      All my patients rather see me then the physician. I guess it’s the lack of compassion SOME physicians, like yourself, have. How dare you speak to a professional like this, a woman. How dare you. You should be embarrassed to call yourself a professional that treats patients.

      @@pegaseg70 Unless the PA passed Step 1/2 they are not more knowledgeable. Midlevels are taught to follow algorithms but when shit hits the fan you always need an MD/DO. Dont like that? Try going to med school
