There's no substitute for someone who knows what in the hell is going on! Knowledge of the little nuances and cautions are the product of experience. Steve obviously has the touch. This is a good presentation.
Steve always seems to hide from the camera in the shop but when he's doing something like this he's awesome with a little more articulation his expertise is very valuable I'm sure he doesn't want to be a movie star but he has such great information with a little comic relief

Wonderful video. I followed it closely to do my 97s. One out of 3 leaked due to a stripped out needle and seat thread. A little jb weld fixed it. Better that looking for a new top. Thanks Steve!!!!!!
For the rank amateur, more detail photos or closeups would have been helpful, Mike. Especially of parts like springs that leap from the table. Unless I missed one, a great first starring role for Steve. That kind of expertise is so valuable!
Thanks for explaining things as you went, there’s nothing worse then a point and grunt video. I do think that sense Matt has Moon and you have your son to add comedy relief you should get Steve a shop cat to help out on the bench.
I know that a Rochester carburetor can be a pain in the back side to rebuild if you haven't done it in a few years ! I tried to but gave up on it and bought a new carburetor as in had been 30 years since I had rebuilt a Rochester carburetor !
Great video. How different are 97’s from the Aerotype carbs? I picked up a pair that came off of a straight eight Buick and I’m sure that they’re going to need to be rebuilt.
Boy, Steve is so knowledgeble about Stromberg carbs you'd almost expect him to be wearing a lab coat as Herr Doktor Professor of carboration teaching vocational school students. Really interesting watching and listening to him rebuilding one. The small engines vocational I attended in the afternoons in my junior and senior years school teacher I had would wear a white lab coat in classes. Out in the shop area a blue one. First day covering proper tool usuage his idea of showing us how not to use tools including a hammer was he bought in a ragged out briggs and stratton engine in on his metal desk and began smashing it with a hammer telling us that's not how you use one. Anyone who laughed incured his rath.
Be careful using compressed air blowing out jets. Remember what they said to Ralfie. You'll shoot your eyes out Kid 😂 Darn near did it myself a couple of times. A friend actually did it. Lucky he did it at an angle it only scratched his cornea and it healed fine. I've always worn eye protection when cleaning carbs because of spraying carb cleaner and compressed air. Actual goggles, not just safety glasses. I've had those fall or blow off at the most friggen inconvenient times working with air or sprays. Definitely an interesting episode this one. I loved bench work. No garage these days so it's been a while since I've done any. Other than circuit board repairs on my folding table. For some reason or another my Bebita Wife Maria frowns on me cleaning vehicle parts in our apartment. IF I was single you can bet my front bedroom would look like Matt's shop and I'd be sleeping in the back guest bedroom. Guests on the couch. I live the shop life here on ITG, Watch Wes Work and other related channels these days.

THE STROMBERG 97 CARBURATOR WAS THE ORIGNAL PERFORMACE CARB IN THE 30S AND 40S. IT WAS USED A LOT ON THE FLATHEAD FORD V8 MOTOR.

Almost 80 years old I think I remember cast iron Stromberg 97's am I right or wrong
I bought a 97 at a swap meet with adjustable emulsion tubes.
To adjust the jets.
you can buy new ones for like $120, but they arent originals either, and its always good to be able to rebuild one instead of buying a whole new one
