  • Innsbruck and Alpine Visit
Innsbruck, the capital of Austria’s western state of Tyrol, is surround by alpine mountains and is the adventure capital of Austria, both in summer for hiking and biking, and winter for skiing. The city of Innsbruck itself is very historic dating back to Roman times and its old town is full of beautifully restored buildings.
One of the most famous buildings and popular tourists’ sites is the Golden Roof (Goldenes Dachl), this landmark structure was completed in 1500 and has been the centre point of the old town ever since. It’s located on a pedestrian mall, with lots of cafes and shops, a great place to enjoy lunch or dinner. Make sure you visit the old town at night as a lot of the buildings are lit up and had a great atmosphere.
On the river bank there are plenty of restaurants and cafes to enjoy a meal with a view. Also on the riverbank is a great food market, with lots of fresh produce, fish, cheeses and meats, good to pick up some picnic supplies if you’re heading up the mountains for a hike.
    Nordkette Cable Car
Leaving from the heart of Innsbruck, to the top of the nearby mountains, it's super convenient and super fun. It’s actually 3 rides in one, firstly in a train type vehicle, then a large cable car to the middle section, followed by a smaller cable car to the very top of the mountain. The views are awesome of Innsbruck, the river, and mountains all around, make sure your camera is full charged. Once at the top we walked a few of the shorter trails as its was snowing and then enjoyed a delicious Weiner Schnitzel in the mountain hut restaurant, very authentic indeed.
    Alpine Zoo
The first stop of the cable car was at the Alpine Zoo, a small zoo located on the mountainside, full of animals and birds that can be found in the alpine region. It was very interesting, and we loved getting to see a few brown bears up close and personal.
I would highly recommend a visit to Innsbruck in western Austria, spend a few days and it will stick with you forever.
