I’m trying to force myself to get it done but it’s really hard to stay motivated. I’ve never managed to do it before due to time commitments, now that I’m able I just don’t feel like it
Who the hell goes out their way to do seasonal challenges? The most boring and pointless grind. Those are things you should unlock naturally by playing the game. If you sit down and treat it like a checklist, you’re doing it way wrong.
If ur talking about the bright dust package. There’s way too many to complete for that. Who tf wants to do 100+ challenges bruh. I know why they increased it but going from like 70’s to 100+ is crazy
On one hand, I feel a lot people came to this misunderstanding. On the other, I really wish people would listen to what the character's are actually saying. On a third hand, I really wish we didn't get utter dribble for writing like Saint thinking he's a clone/copy pulled from a simulation when he literally has access to the Light (I could see this being a flawed conclusion the character makes that's later corrected or unreliable narration but as far as I can tell it's treated like it's factual and not up for debate).
@@exxy9931I'd probably be more invested in the story if I didn't have to get all of the important details from listening to Osiris. Feels like the writers were sniffing their own farts when they wrote his dialogue.
@@exxy9931 the problem lies withing the fact that people don't care what the characters have to say because most of the story is prenseted in a very boring and inconsequential way. I promise you I usually try to listen and pay attention to the story but aside from some mildly funny quips from failsafe most of the narrative is pretty bland and unattractive. I would like to care but I can't
@@exxy9931 I'm also just not really a fan of the new Saint lore because it makes the Perfect Paradox just really fuckin weird, rather than just it being a paradox.
The problem was that the story went nowhere for 6 weeks of content and then ended by also going nowhere. What changed with the characters from the start to the end of the season? Nothing. It all makes it feel pointless and meandering.
The only character development we got was Saint getting our saints memories similar to crow and uldren, Osiris seeing himself in mayas madness, and failsafe being a part of the helm (not sure if she will stay a part of the helm in future stories
Even worse is the butchering of failsafe. Instead of the two distinct voices and 2 personalities its just 1 personality that speaks different sometimes. Awful change that Im assuming is the consequence from layoffs of the writers
@@mutantraze3681 That was always going to be a problem because Failsafe's original story was vaulted so long ago, and New Light is frankly terrible at explaining what anything is. It was so unnecessary to ditch her missions too, because they still had Nessus; it wasn't like Titan or Io where they got rid of entire locations.
@@Bransburkfr. I’m the biggest lore junkie ever and I turned dialogue off for the first time in my Decade+ of playing. The gay robots (from space) soap opera became grating very fast, and doesn’t fit in this game very well.
I don’t mind them as characters and their love story is fine but there comes a point when you over do it and yeah Datto is right, we need a break from love stories right now.
I remember when Osiris and Saint-14 were legendary names in the Destiny universe, not actual gay characters with most DLC stories revolving around them.
My main issue with the plot is that Saint and Osiris are supposed to be the greatest Titan and greatest Warlock who ever lived. They should be THE power couple. But here, they're reduced to mopey sadboys. Worse, it's over something that should be commonly accepted in the Destiny universe: Your ghost reconstitutes a new copy of your body every time you die. You're not even "the real you" in THIS timeline.
The problem with Shadowkeep's story was the buildup not ending with any kind of payoff once we entered the pyramid, Hunt wasn't supposed to be special as it was "go kill shit while accompanied by an unlikely ally" and the character interactions really helped The pros thrived off of the small story details that season, especially when its flaws really just stem from its piss poor seasonal gameplay rather than narrative. Twas was simply smaller immediate stakes and that's completely fine. Speaking of which, before that, we haven't really had a story that intentionally tried to be smaller in scope since the one in House of Wolves. We were doing a favor for/getting paid by Mara Sov in that dlc, and likewise but with Spider in Hunt to kill Xivu's Wrathborn.
One of things thats getting annoying for me is Osiris and Saint’s relationship. Its been prevalent for the past couple years and i’m tired of it. Maybe focus on the Drifter, Eris, Mara, Crow, or Ikora. idc if their character developement is romantic in nature next episode but please just focus on other characters. Also make Failsafe the HELMs permanent AI
Honestly I'd kill to get some more peripheral attention on Drifter and Eris, especially because their relationship has never taken away from their personal narratives. They continue to grow and develop individually and their relationship changes and grows accordingly. It's way more organic and I wish Bungie would stop leaning so hard into Osiris and Saint. Also because Drifter and Eris have a history of giving us many big things to kill and not having annoyingly over-extended dialogue.
I liked it in this story specifically because they are very clearly drawing a parallel between how Maya went off the deep end and Osiris did not, given very similar circumstances. They spent the last little while getting us invested in their relationship and exploring it, then they used it as a counterpoint to the conflict with Maya and Chioma.
"guardian there's an exo lady trying to turn everyone into vex, but first you need to feed the frog. We don't have anyone else for this you have to do it guardian."
I really liked Season of the Haunted because it was a refreshing change of pace and a break from the status quo. Then it became the status quo. Seraph, Deep, and Witch were also technically relationship-oriented/trauma oriented seasons but because the relationships we focused on were new (Clovis+Rasputin+Ana+Elsie, Savathun+Xivu+Eris, and Sloane+Ahsa+Xivu) , it was still interesting. I never tuned out when these characters interacted. I looked forward to hearing them talk to each other. I found myself tuning out when Saint and Osiris interacted while standing over Saint's grave and i couldn't put my finger on why. I realize now thats its because I know their relationship already. They love each other. Weve known that for years. I get they were a parallel/foil to Maya and Chioma but Maya's repeated killing of her partner couldve been more impactful if we saw more of their past relationship/other simulated versions (emphasis on "saw" and not "read about.") Im super locked in on any Eliksni content so im stoked for Revenant. There are a lot of character pairings that have had very little, if any, on-screen interactions (Variks+Spider, Spider+Eramis, Fikrul+Mithrax, Fikrul+Variks, Eido+Variks, etc.) so theres a chance for a lot of fresh and unseen interactions. So many it'd be hard to mess it up.
Ngl, no, haunted was so rough and grindy, I fell off then and there and lost any motivation to even try with that piratey ass season Take us back to SPLICER
@@KWCHopeMe personally, I absolutely loved everything about Haunted. It was the perfect amount of grindy for me and it stayed fun. Definitely my favorite season.
@@mediocregamer2484I feel like Haunted was really similar to the other three in terms of relationships between characters (Crow and Nightmare Uldren, Zavala and Nightmare Safiyah, Caiatl and Nightmare Ghaul, plus her dad Calus behind it all), but it was integrated so well with the problem at hand (that being Calus connecting to the Lunar Pyramid, becoming the Herald of the Witness, and the emergence of Nightmares on the Leviathan) that it didn't feel as another "soap opera" story that people dislike. And plus, the Haunted Leviathan was awesome, and the public event on it was fun. Overall one of the best seasons imo.
it's just hard to believe that after Osiris brought Saint back the two never discussed the legitimacy of Saint's existence for over 2 years. It's also weird that everyone seems to have these deeply personal conversations exclusively around our guardian. The craziest example of this is in the Final Shape campaign when Cayde gets on comms and is like "Hey crow, put us on private comms" and then spills everything over an open comm despite Crow standing literally right in front of him.
@@tiagonicolodi2237the problem is the lore isn’t actually in the game (aside from some slight reference that just confuses anyone who doesn’t know) feel like we’ve been down this path before…
Yea, the opening mission of Reach has more story than this whole Episode (season). More dialogue, more tension, more (and meaningful) interactions with NPCs, more... just more. Still love the game(play), but man how the mighty have fallen.
The problem isn’t the love story, like Saint and Osiris’s relationship is lovely conceptually and there are a lot of lore tabs that do a lot better job of going in depth with it then what we actually see in game, it just sucks that there’s such a disconnect between the two writing departments for some bloody reason
Could have done without doing that fucking exotic mission over and over again for 3 weeks. The fact that we didn't even fight Maya and not obtain the echo was ridiculous. This is all my opinion
That's because it's an episode, like of a TV show, where the story will continue in another episode. Episodes format isn't like Seasons, unlike every TH-camr has got wrong and just thinks it's the same story telling format.
@@DG-oc2uwWhat does that even mean? If a TV show had you literally watch the exact same thing on repeat weeks in a row… and you had no actual engagement with the antagonist of a couple month long arc… that show would be cancelled. Straight up.
I feel like the seasonal stories for the last 2 years have been trauma dumping and relationship therapy. I hope Saint and Osiris get their exodus into space because I am so tired of listening to them.
Dead ass, I actually completely forgot to finish act 2 and 3. Like, i intended on doing it but I just… didnt Maya was the bad guy and that was easy to figure out in week 2 lmao, we have two scientists and one of them is a giant head
I also stopped after act 1. I did the exotic mission with my friends even though I knew I wouldn't get the gun myself since I hadn't reached that point in the story and I am fine with that.
All through Lightfall, we knew that Maya was the anomaly in the Vex Network. So why did they spend WEEKS trying to pretend nobody could figure out who "The Conductor" was? They straight up TOLD you. So either the Vanguard are idiots, or the Guardian just doesn't share any of the information you found.
Same. And my only regret is that failsafe was actually probably my favorite character in the game in several years so I didn’t actually really get to interact with them and whatnot. However the rest of the game was so uninteresting that it wasn’t enough
The real issue with the saint osiris love story stuff is that every conversation between them is the same thing. They just talk about how much they love each other and thats it
Exactly how I felt, its not interesting when you hear one of them start talking and can just say immediately expect them to start going on and on about being gay for each other
It sucks especially because there are a lot of lore tabs that write their relationship a million times better than the in-game stuff like I have no idea how they can cook so hard in the lore tab on some random ass gun and then absolutely fumble the in game story so badly
@@amorfati4927yep, I followed my quest tab to get to it, and thankfully it landed me with. Duo 80% done with the mission. Just followed along, the boss was a little tough with the timer being always present. But it was done, we got out drops and I just thought. Neat
I am so glad people are actually speaking up about the soap opera problem. There’s been a noticeable shift in the writing since Beyond Light (and for an actual reason, it was basically a new writing team taking over while others left or shifted to Marathon/Gummy Bears), but the ‘Season of Trauma’ really kicked up starting right around Witch Queen. As much as the gameplay has been stale for me like many others, ultimately what has pushed me away has been the writing. Destiny was an amazing science-fantasy world even if much of the peak stuff was tucked away in lore tabs. I do think though that that is *somewhat* inevitable given the medium used. No doubt a short story (and really think about the epics like Books of Sorrow/Marasenna) is going to able to better deliver & delve deeper on the sciences, mythologies, and philosophies that are at the core of Destiny versus live-service content designed to be approachable to all. Still though, the shift has resulted in relying less on the lore books (the lack of Seth Dickinson’s writing is…apparent) and more on in-game storytelling. However, so much of it feels to be only what I can describe as performative. Instead of the science-fantasy story I loved that had(!) elements of romance, drama, etc… it’s now more like a soap opera with elements of science-fantasy. Many times I’ve crossed my fingers and hoped for something in the older lore to surface because it was entirely appropriate, only for the screen time to be devoted to some amount of characters brooding over some past event or personal drama. Like what happened to Osiris & Saint as their *individual* characters? Truly, I just miss the times when Destiny felt so much more esoteric.
But if they don’t put the only gay couple in the game at the forefront of every story for the past few years. Then how will everyone know how inclusive and loving bungie is. Because that’s what video game development is all about! Being inclusive, making a good game is secondary. Just ask firewalk studios!
We literally are god slayer with an army and at the forefront of our wartable(helm) the issue we discuss infront of all the staff on board is couples theraphy stuff. Whether its gay or straight or animal fucking I gotta say sack it to your bedroom/psychiatrist side quest, war strategies only here. I think thats why it feels so cheesy. The poor robot sweeping on minimum wage kept hearing couples whining like please shoot me now 😂😂 Like romance elements and emotions have its place when placed right for the genuine emotional impact, but it feels like they forgot that and keep shoving fan fiction level of self insert writing to the damn game its painful to listen.
@@TheSket The real irony is that they aren't the only gay couple, just the only ones where both characters have in-game models and voice actors. Bungie retconned a bunch of characters into being gay or bi. Devrim, Ana and Mara at a minimum, if memory serves. I assume Nimbus as well, but who the heck knows what's going on there. There are more gay relationships amongst the main NPCs than straight ones.
Oh please don't, he's been very confident with himself and Cayde in Wild Hunt exotic quest, him being emo again is just disgraced to Cayde's legacy. His character developments has been very well written for the past couple of years IMO.
I agree on the part of romance stories. This was the first time I was yelling at the monitor "I GET IT! YOU'RE LOVERS! WE GET IT! GET ON WITH THE PLOT ALREADY!"
the worst thing about the love stories is that normally they serve as a great catalyst for extreme character development when they get pitted against each other but Bungie seems too scared to take chances with their characters.
It sucks especially because there are a lot of lore tabs that write their relationship a million times better than the in-game stuff like I have no idea how they can cook so hard in the lore tab on some random ass gun and then absolutely fumble the in game story so badly
So my main take away from Episode 1 is it's a soap opera about a narcissistic manipulated abusing her gf with time travel. Sounds like Episode 2 will be a daddy issues soap opera between Crow and Fikrul.
God I hope they dont ruin Crow's character. They've already finished his story with the Final shape and anything major to add to it is likely to make it worse
and obviously Episode 3 will be 2 sisters bickering at eachother on who gets the throne, or some crap. so essentually this year of destiny is nothing but Family issues, the story.
I stopped bothering with the story after we ran from a couple of goblins at the end of act 2. Maya didn't need to be that big of a threat, but seriously? Goblins?
The whole “stop/go” pacing of the episode really killed any desire to care for the story, and when you put into account that episodes are one month longer than seasons, that’s a whole lot of waiting for content that we’re gonna play through once, and never touch again. Speaking of which (and I’m speaking verbatim when I commented on one of Cross’ videos), I felt nothing but apathy when Encore and Choir of One dropped despite everyone praising how great it was. One exotic mission isn’t enough to keep me around forever, especially when you have to run it multiple times for the upgrades. I still have yet to even fire the gun once.
I thought it was a 5.5/10. They write Maya in to suddenly think of herself as something greater than The Witness, but she took beatings that even Randal could tank. The redeeming factor at least came in the exotic mission, but I just found myself spacing out for the first story in a while because it's not even Maya proving that she is a valid threat. It's just her getting angry that no one understands her actions, not even her actual Chioma who doesn't care anymore.
@@amorfati4927 i mean they do say not to meet your heroes so, it kinda makes sense that they would be less 'holy shit its them'. not defending bungos writing but just saying it like it is
It sucks especially because there are a lot of lore tabs that write their relationship a million times better than the in-game stuff like I have no idea how they can cook so hard in the lore tab on some random ass gun and then absolutely fumble the in game story so badly
People complaining about saint and osiris but that isnt the problem. The problem is the writing is awful. Nobody talks like a real person would. Nobody reacts like a real person would. It all sounds like turnbased dialogue that is just so disjointed and weird. Destiny has always had weird writing, but when they say the same stuff for multiple weeks on end it gets really annoying. There was so much repeated exposition this episode and that is why its annoying. It isnt the characters, its the way the story is being told. It sucks.
Truth be told I’ve never actually understood this frame of thought. The characters are part of the writing, therefore they are part of the problem. They used to be almost mythical feared bad asses… and now they’ve turned into meandering drama queens that don’t feel like they accomplish anything really. Yeah, the writers and the writing did that but THEY are now part of the problem and their characters will forever stay this way.
@@amorfati4927 the characters themselves are well written. Their thoughts and feelings are well written, and understandable. The way that those thoughts and feelings are communicated to the audience is terrible. It really isn't the characters, because I like them, I just don't like the way that story is being communicated over such a long period of time and plot points are repeated over and over. It would be like reading a book but every chapter is repeated six times before you get a new one. I like this chapter, but I'm getting tired of reading it.
They literally have copy pasted lines from seasons upon seasons ago. Sometimes said by completely different characters altogether. They all have the same conversations over and over. The dialogue is worse than it is in Star Wars.
@@ratatouillestew7444 yeah, and it has been for a long time. The final shape was the best we had since witch queen, and aside from rise of iron and the taken king, there hasn't been much good story telling across all of destiny. The gameplay has always been enough for me until now. After thousands of hours on steam, and thousands more on other platforms across the franchise, the gameplay is not enough to keep me interested. It's still fun, don't get me wrong, but it's been ten years, and if the story isn't good, I really have no reason to play. My characters are built, and my builds are set. 10 on each character. I have no need to grind for new loot, and if I'm not doing that, then I'm doing the story, so if both things are not enough to keep me engaged, then I'm not going to play. I always said I would play until I stopped having fun, and after 10 long years, I just don't really care anymore. It makes me sad because I've grown so attached to this franchise, but like marvel and Star wars and ben 10 and regular show, I think I've just grown out of it. I would do raids but all the community does is complain and then I have to deal with casual racism and homophobia and misogyny and BS from a player base that takes the game way too seriously. I miss the good ol days when I could log in every Tuesday and do a raid with my pals and shoot the shid, but it's over now. The witness is dead, and the game is won. I hope I can be satisfied with that at least until we get more info on frontiers. Sony might be able to shake things up, but after the flop that was concord, I'm not holding my breath.
Where's the Maya that tortured Clovis? Osiris has so many death flags Don't be surprised when Fikrul rezs Amanda as a magic sparkly vampire queen next season. There has to be a kinetic glaive so i can stake vampires!!! I need Blade, Underworld and Army of Darkness feels in Revenant then Lovecraftian creatures in Heresy.
That Maya was a vex copy. Before that happened, the real one decided to dip out of Europa once she realized the extent of Clovis' experiments and promised to never be like him. Hence, the sheer irony in the Conductor's actions, which are very steeped in Sci-Fi goodness that was lacking the whole episode. Revenant is clearly Halloween horror inspired, so you'll probably get that, plus an exotic is a grenade launcher with the micro missile (Mountaintop) frame that deals precision damage at the least.
Why do we let Osiris run around with us? He's just a normal mortal human now. Other than Strand, he's just a completely normal 50-something. Stop letting him come along on the daring dos, he's going to end up throwing out his back.
Act 1, and 2 had some cool activities, but I ran out of energy by the 10th time I had to do Encore, also story was kinda meh. Failsafe carried this "Episode" with her sassy and hilarious attitude. Fallen themed seasons have always been good (Splicer). Looking forward to how Revenant goes. Meesraks, Varriss, and Rakis story sounds interesting with how Fikrul will come back into the main story again.
19:30 hoping so hard that this isn't a force awakens where the first was mid and then turns out to be the highpoint, i have no precedent for what i'm saying here but it's a paranoid thought
Hey Datto, thank you for the 10 years of service to the community. I was with Destiny since the Alpha and even got to play it at E3 in 2014. It's been a huge part of my life and even in the years where I wasn't actively playing, I was checking out your stream(s) and videos to catch up to what was going on. Final Shape was my final expansion/raid/hurrah. To start my new life, I'm quitting D2 entirely and will be moving on to making my own family of baby guardians. I wish you the best of luck and I will be watching your other channel to continue to support you outside of Destiny! You rock!
The main problems that seasons had were that they removed story content at the end of the year and that they re-charged us for reskinned copy-paste content. Bungie was starting to solve the second problem with the last couple seasons having interesting takes on the seasonal activities, but the first problem was still an issue. It looks like Bungie is trying to address the first problem by making the seasons/episodes self containing, but that DOESNT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. It may help prevent the big dlc stories from relying on events that aren’t in the game anymore, but that was a problem with the big dlc, not one of the problems with the seasons/episodes. Image if they kept the interesting landscape changes to Nessus and had a condensed single mission that had you quickly play through the story from this episode which would be here to stay.
Timeworn Wayfarer with Shoot to loot (that can proc off the origin perk AND ignitions) and incandescence is amazing and I'll shout it from the rooftops until my throat bleeds.
I have one word for how this season (yes, season, not episode) made me feel about Destiny: apathy. I uninstalled the game and hid it in Steam and I have no intention on returning. This was Bungie’s chance to show players like me that were adamant that Final Shape would be their last piece of Destiny content that our outlook and opinion was shortsighted and they failed. It’s time for another game to bookmark 10 years of my life.
For a "Expansion launch season" if we can call it that. It's pretty decent. Still wasn't the best time but I appreciate the effort that was put into it and even though I haven't finished the story, I enjoyed it OVERALL. Just got burnt out on the expansion launch being so good ig
Hear me out, with the witness gone the biggest threat could be other people again like in most civilizations. So perhaps a episode basd on political inner conflicts could be cool.
6:10 lore of the season: MAYA IS TRYNA RECREATE THE WORLD IN HER OWN IMAGE USING THE VEX AGHH Story told in the season: Lesbian domestic violence statistics Has anyone noticed that the only romantic relationships depicted in this game are homosexual? At some point the inclusion (good) becomes pandering (bad). The closest they came was Crow and Amanda and they blew that bitch up for character development purposes. I suppose zavala and his wife are there too but she's been dead for a thousand years or whatever so that does not count either
Echoes was so terrible. Hopefully the next story line Osiris and Saint get what they want and get blasted together into the far reaches of Outer Space.
They're bringing back Eramis. Not even blasting off into deep space to go be gay is enough to keep you from getting dragged back into a crappy plotline.
When I first saw the template I was like “okay this seems like it won’t just a be season stretched and diluted into a few extra weeks” and that’s exactly what it was.
@@eranronen573he was already unlikeable when we finally get to see him in Curse of Osiris. I was hoping he's a legendary cool dude they've been talking about in the D1 lores, but in reality we're just his errand boy cleaning up his mess for this past couple of years.
I feel like the reason this season was lame had factors to do with coming out of the final shape, layoffs, maybe marathon being taken away dev time, and expanding on future content. I'm very hopeful for act 2 and 3 'especally' act 2 because the content sounds awesome. Act 1 when they pitched it sounded the least interesting and i was correct on how it turned out but im positive for the future
God, i hope bungie makes the Dreadnaught as an actual planet (I know it's a ship) like a place we can naturally explore and see other Guardians do public events like in d1.
This is the first season that i gave up on. I couldn't even pull myself to finish Act 3. I'm at the point where I think im just done with Destiny. I'll just watch ppl play the new raids and stuff.
I'll probably do the new dungeon but that's about it. No new reprised raid this year and awful storytelling after the absolute banger that Final Shape was just makes me feel like it's not worth it to play anymore. Plus the layoffs over the past year... I'm tired of the rollercoaster. The Final Shape was a great conclusion so I think I'm going to try and forget about anything that happens afterwards. End off with a happy ending, you know?
Thats pretty much what im doing lol after seeing the 'season' being bungies brand new spangly thing after final shape i just got business as usual vibes and dipped 2 weeks into ep1 not returned since so many other games to play at the moment destiny doesnt have its place for me no more and it feeels greattt @dikerdodleplays
I would like to see some more serious content from the echoes, i love when bungie leans into the more evil things guardians do. Dredgen yor, the RON titan armor lore, felwinters helm having a ghost in the back, and the chioma dialogue in the exotic mission were all highlights in the story that highlight the fact that immortality can be a curse and not all guardians choose to be good
Im SO SICK of hearing about character relationships. Like its been like 3 years of this shit. Can we have a story about just bad guys being bad like omg
It sucks especially because there are a lot of lore tabs that write their relationship a million times better than the in-game stuff like I have no idea how they can cook so hard in the lore tab on some random ass gun and then absolutely fumble the in game story so badly
nobody blames you for taking a break, id never thought i wouldnt be touching the game after 10k hours on it. i want to "want" to play the game again with hype, drive, and excitement and not the same dish we have been given for the past couple of years. i think its time the developers just give it a break and work on sutff for a while and take thier time
I like the love stories for character development, but, it definitely has been a lot of them lately. I'm also kinda burnt on the underlying morals or lessons for each season, but just a season of go kick ass sounds kinda like "More Destiny" which won't work. Agreed, Maya did have some solid takes. Would like a little more introspection on the world as a whole, or maybe the guardian specifically. Post buff to Skywatch, still took me 3-5 hours of killing stuff starting from nothing. Honestly fine with shiny Onslaught weapons coming back, but I know a lot of people would be annoyed/pissed about it. I think if Bungie simply let those weapons get double perks again, without the shiny paint job, that'd be fine. The best option would be to allow the shiny ornament to be applicable to any Onslaught weapons, if you unlocked the shiny version.
The best thing about the season's story are the reddit posts making fun of it: i.e. Maya fishing for a godroll Chioma. Act 3 Should have had Clovis showing up, killing Maya: "SURPRISE, MOTHERFUCKERS" and disappearing with the Echo. I would have at least been entertained. The only saving grace is Failsafe. I got her pets bc she seemed to be happy with them. The exotic mission is some lazy shit. Why the fuck are there champs in Expert mode? Eager edge and grappled past all that tedious horseshit. Got to the end of the story and Bungie said run the mission one last time for dialog? Nah, I'm good.
D2 players: We wanted an interesting and action-packed episode! Bungie: Let us give you an episode about a love story between a man and his robot boy toy.
Yea idk why so many ppl hang on... personally I hate they havnt don anything special for the core Playlist I'm guessing bc its apart of the free to try experience and if it don't make them money they're not going to invest in it ....but they've made the whole game hollow af imo
Act 1: We have to figure out who's the villain (pretty easy to figure out if you read Veil Containment) Act 2: We have to stop Maya from achieving her goal (which is both the Vex's and the Witness' only just tailored to her vision.) Act 3: We 'stop' Maya, but she fades into the radiolaria saying she'll be back.
iirc, Echoes was an experiment and a transitioning period from being a seasonal system to an episodic system (which I hope Revenant becomes that). Thus, at the beginning I did expect this “episode” to be mid and because of the expectation I wasn’t as upset. Then Encore came out and…whew boy. By the end of its third week, wits were at an end and that cutscene…it could’ve been done better. Like idk, maybe have Maya pull out a Panoptes-esque unit, morph into it, and start a little boss fight where Saint’s, Osiris’s, and Ikora’s lives are at stake? Then at the end, when we’re done weakening the boss, Ikora vaporizes the unit with a Nova, Saint charges in to pummel Maya to pieces, we come in and use our newfound powers to break the part of the Witness (Echo of Command) free. Bam: episode done, echo is gone, Maya is finished, etc.; everyone is happy and we pursue the next threat. I know for development time and all, things get complicated. But holy moly, this narrative and how the story is written is subpar at worst and mediocre at best. For we just defeated the Witness. Sword logic or not, we’re powerful af and we wield such power like Aragorn from LotR: with care and well thought-out actions. By that logic, that Command Echo is a smidgen compared to us and thus we shouldn’t had been so easily influenced by it. Sorry for this rambling but where was the story going man?? All I hope is they learned about this, with constructive criticism in mind, and develop the future content better. Though at this point, I ain’t holding my breath.
We just defeated the fucking Withess, the biggest baddie in the universe thus far. Some big head comes in and we can’t just one TAP HER INTO THE STARS????? Bungie, you have to start trying man. This episode was some hot dog shit. Boring, cut scenes are the worst I’ve seen, nothing to keep me interested in the season.
I will say killing the witness isn't because we are Uber super duper strong mf we had to like always exploit weaknesses and use stipulations to beat the witness. That being said, Maya summons 4 fucking vex goblins and we just run away... I mean we aren't witness level in a straight fight but we sure as hell are above 4 goblins and some woman.
tbf, I am pretty sure that the traveler made us a threat to the witness. Without that, we would've been crushed like a tin can. Which is actually great for the future of Destiny. Because... how are they going to keep coming up with witness level threats when he was borderline a god?
I feel like this season's/episode's story should've just been a lore book. I really wanted this story to finally make the vex interesting and maybe give them some individuality and character outside of "Hive-mind evil robots."
I really dislike how they’re using saint-14 and Osiris. Their relationship has always felt very random and forced, and I’m getting tired of the love stuff. I have nothing against the lgbt community, but their relationship is really bad. There was no mention of them ever having a fling until the season prior to witch queen, and now that’s all the story we get out of them. I just want to see them break things and blow stuff up, not listen to how they touch each other in the bathroom. Like they’re supposed to be legendary icons, and all we get out of them is a very awkward relationship.
Final Shape burnout hit so hard. I finished the story for act 1 the week that it happened, and I don't think I've logged back in since then. I was someone who was looking forward to the change from seasons to episodes, but I don't see myself getting reinvested any time soon.
People call me homophobic when criticize saint and osiris relationship when in fact I'm just being tired of how bad they wrote those couple for having constant meaningless drama that doesn't really impact the missions. Like "boohoo gay robot sad because his old space wizard didn't remember the first time he said love to him, so gay robot just abandoning the mission and leave humanity in a brink of danger".
I actually liked the parallels between Maya and Saint/Osiris. It was a clever way to use the story of Dawn and how close it was to being something sinister; remember how Osiris located and identified like millions of Saints only to decide they weren't from the right point in time to be the one he was looking for? And it makes sense that Saint today could look back on that and question who he is, whether he's the 'right' version of him. He *was* pulled from a different timeline. Maya was not really wrong about him. That's the kind of deep examination of characters' histories that Destiny seasonal stories are often good at, and I thought it was the most successful element of this episode, along with the horror of seeing Maya's Westworld-like fidelity testing of the Chiomas.
My biggest gripe was that nothing really happened. Nessus didn't change, the Vex could be forever changed, but it looks like they might just revert to original tactics. Relationships didn't change or evolve except maybe Saint and himself.
The story reminded me of Wizard of Oz, you have the Tin man (Saint) trying to find his heart, Scarecrow (Failsafe) trying to find her brain fighting the Wicked Witch (Maya) under the orders of the Wizard of Oz (Osiris) to stop her from turning everyone into Flying Monkies (Vex) helped by the Good Witch (Chiomi). Chiomi gives us Vex McGuffin which helps us confront Maya at the end stopping her wicked plan once and for all. She melts into a pool of radiolaria. If the finale continues my bad analogy we will steal the echo to use against her winning the fight then we will give it to failsafe who will use it to become the ruler of Emerald City the Vex Net on Nessus. Saint will use it as a refuge to find the remaining Chiomis then we will live happily ever after.
I agree, onslaught was the first time in many years for me the incentive/thrill to chase loot was fantastic! Shiny, enhancing & attunement. More of this please Bungie! 🙂

and eventually realised, of her own accord, that it wasn't worth it. Took her a while, but it's in the auto-cutscene.

I’m shocked they didn’t have Failsafe get put in one of Maya’s leftover exo bodies
So business as usual at Bungie. This is the problem with all their stories.

It’s what happens when women write stories. Just lame drama and weakness.
Bungie really outdid themselves here, they somehow made a story more boring and pointless than Shadowkeep, Season of the Hunt, and many other failures
The problem with Shadowkeep's story was the buildup not ending with any kind of payoff once we entered the pyramid,
Hunt wasn't supposed to be special as it was "go kill shit while accompanied by an unlikely ally" and the character interactions really helped The pros thrived off of the small story details that season, especially when its flaws really just stem from its piss poor seasonal gameplay rather than narrative.

We need Failsafe in a body for scientific purposes... 🗿
It’s because they’re gay
I liked it in this story specifically because they are very clearly drawing a parallel between how Maya went off the deep end and Osiris did not, given very similar circumstances. They spent the last little while getting us invested in their relationship and exploring it, then they used it as a counterpoint to the conflict with Maya and Chioma.
DRIFTERRRRRRR
When the most impactful moment of the story is “oh captain Jacobsen is a frog now, I guess that’s kinda cute” you know bungie is fumbling
I get they were a parallel/foil to Maya and Chioma but Maya's repeated killing of her partner couldve been more impactful if we saw more of their past relationship/other simulated versions (emphasis on "saw" and not "read about.")
Im super locked in on any Eliksni content so im stoked for Revenant.

I am here to remind you that the other Fallen season was Plunder. They're 50/50 on Fallen seasons.
10:34 The Call would like a word
I'm sick of Saint & Osiris being in every single fucking season.

I’m amazed at how much you still cover this game. I loved Destiny for years but it’s over for me. You’ve always done an amazing job Datto
fuck it, make the traveler gay so we finally get some lore on it
“I don’t like them putting chemicals in the light that turn the freaking guardian’s-“
Datto ads are my favorite ads. Literally don’t skip them. 10/10.
i felt like a marriage counselor or something this season
That’s already happened, with the 3 factions …

lore of the season: MAYA IS TRYNA RECREATE THE WORLD IN HER OWN IMAGE USING THE VEX AGHH
Story told in the season: Lesbian domestic violence statistics
Has anyone noticed that the only romantic relationships depicted in this game are homosexual?
Honestly I’m just hoping we hear less from Osiris 🤧

Way better than a season, there’s already more content and the quality is better
Completely agree here. I hate being of those doomers but once I got out of the habit of playing I couldn’t bring myself back to the grind again
Datto: The first craftable rocket sidearm
The Call: Am I joke to you?
TL;DR Gaybots prove that there love is more powerful than other gaybots love.
Something something Signalis
nobody blames you for taking a break, id never thought i wouldnt be touching the game after 10k hours on it. i want to "want" to play the game again with hype, drive, and excitement and not the same dish we have been given for the past couple of years. i think its time the developers just give it a break and work on sutff for a while and take thier time
I like the love stories for character development, but, it definitely has been a lot of them lately.
Same here, honestly
Datto: Aberrant Action is the FIRST craftable rocket-sidearm
The Call: Am I a joke to you?!?
The Maya reveal was really underwhelming because it was super obvious. I was really hoping it wouldn't be Maya
I can’t wait for everyone to blow through all of Episode 2 in a week, and then complain that there isn’t enough content.
People aren’t ready for next episode each act being “beatable” the moment it launches
This is the first season I genuinely couldn't be bothered to finish the pass on. Just absolutely a bore.
If Fikrul and Crow start a love story I’m going to petition a visual novel tag on steam for Destiny

“I’m assuming it’s not going to be a love story” 😂 Sooo true!
Act 1: We have to figure out who's the villain (pretty easy to figure out if you read Veil Containment)
Act 2: We have to stop Maya from achieving her goal (which is both the Vex's and the Witness' only just tailored to her vision.)
Act 3: We 'stop' Maya, but she fades into the radiolaria saying she'll be back.
3:10 I always finish smoothly when I watch a Datto video 😉
10:34 I imagine you meant to say first craftable energy slot rocket sidearm
iirc, Echoes was an experiment and a transitioning period from being a seasonal system to an episodic system (which I hope Revenant becomes that).
6:35 Did you let Mordecai and Rigby write this part of the script? 😂
Exotic mission was pretty cool as a solo player. Still haven’t finished the triumph to get whisper emblem
PSA To Advertisers (Manscaped in this case): Pay this man more. I watch his ads.....willingly
7:05 bro jinxed it
We just defeated the fucking Withess, the biggest baddie in the universe thus far. Some big head comes in and we can’t just one TAP HER INTO THE STARS????? Bungie, you have to start trying man. This episode was some hot dog shit. Boring, cut scenes are the worst I’ve seen, nothing to keep me interested in the season.
Heh Withess. Mike Tyson is that you
I will say killing the witness isn't because we are Uber super duper strong mf we had to like always exploit weaknesses and use stipulations to beat the witness.
It was a season.
I agree, onslaught was the first time in many years for me the incentive/thrill to chase loot was fantastic! Shiny, enhancing & attunement.
More of this please Bungie! 🙂
