When I think of the quintessential classic recording sounds of trumpets on all of my favorite pop albums There’s truly only one horn that comes to mind:
    Calicchio 1S/2
This is the trumpet that was basically on every major recording of the 70’s and 80’s. You think of the Calicchio as clean, crisp, agile, rich, sparkling, brilliant.
When you think of jazz trumpets you might think of the Martin Committee (don’t worry we have tons of those in stock at the shop right now as well) and this is the pop equivalent.
It’s super rare to get one of these that hasn’t sadly been used to death. This one is a fine example from the 90’s and in great shape!

When I was still an aspiring musician, my teacher, Walter Larsen, recommended my parents drive me to meet Domenick Calicchio and purchase a horn from him that I could use for rehearsals (reconditioned by Calicchio, not made from scratch). I still have a Bach reconditioned by Domenick and it still plays beautifully! Its incredible to this day!

That’s the way a trumpet should sound

WOW! Even the Classical pieces sound good on this horn! I know it's 95% the player...but the other 5% doesn't hurt!lol

My first introduction to a Calicchio Trumpet was in 1973 and a fellow trumpet player just picked up one in a Pawn Shop for $50 bucks. It was the best deal a college trumpet player could ever run into.
Great demo Trent. I gotta get over your way one day. 😉

While I prefer the Benge that is truly a wonderful horn too…

You’ve had Bach Commercial models in and out of the shop. How does this compare for you to those horns in terms of core, slotting, easy of playability? I have the opportunity to pick up a 1s/2 minus the extra braces on the one you’re demoing. I currently play the ML Commercial. Thanks for your thoughts!

Urban legend [maybe] has been that Dominick was commissioned by Chuck Mangione to build a flugelhorn. As the story goes, Dominick built two, and allowed Chuck to choose one. So - is all of this true, and if so, what became of the other flugelhorn?
