so, ive tried to do this but instead it saved the messages i recently had instead of getting my older messages that are saved in my icloud, the old ones saved in my icloud are really important to me and i need them back.

No i dont believe so mate. You are better off forwarding the chat via email to yourself so that you at least have a copy of it.

I have an issue with this, i have 39GB free space on my iCloud and yet when i want to backup my chat (4,66GB) it gives me an error that i have no enough space in my iPhone, i dont understand why do i need more space on my phone, when the backup is going directly to the cloud. so annoying

Do you still have your old phone?
You can scan with any data recovery tool to find if there is deleted files could be found. Syncios Data Recovery worked before. I used. But I am not sure if the data was overwritten. It's better to stop using the device now and do the recovery process as soon as possible

Hi Sara, firs thing I would do is go through your videos and make delete any videos that you don't need. These are usally the biggest files. Do the same for your photos. Next go into your deleted items and clear your deteled items. Otherwise your data doesnt go down until you do that step.

Yep, so it backs up to icloud. But you have to make sure icloud backup is on as well as turn on Whatsapp to backup.

First thing mate would be to go through and delete any video or photos that are rubbish ones. That will get you some space back. Once you have some space, the best backup would be to a computer with iTunes installed? 50GB on iCloud is crazy in my opinion haha. You need to backup Whatsapp first before you can restore it on your new phone.
I don't understand. If What's App iCloud backup is turned on and if the iCloud backup is supposed to backup apps and data, why are you also doing chat backup inside What's App? Secondly what is icloud drive and what is it for appearing in the list under iCloud backup? I'm trying to learn about Apple and iOS.

Yes so when you did the back up you missed the check box which says include media. I wouldnt try to do anything at this stage as you might lose all your chats. What i would do is find the whatsapp media folder on your old phone and copy it to your new phone. Otherwise, just be happy that you have your chats. Whatsapp can be really back for backup and restore. :)

Ok hi. I switched over from a 7 to an Xr. So turned off “include videos” and what happened was I got back my messages but I didn’t get back my pics, documents or pdf files in each specific message.

Not seen this before. But here is what I could find out for you.
"You aren't logged into the same Google account.
You aren't using the same phone number that was used to create the backup.
Your SD card or chat history is corrupted.
A backup file doesn't exist on the Google Drive account or locally on your phone."

hi what if you only have the standard 5GB on iCloud but you have over 40GB of data on WhatsApp, is there a way to backup WhatsApp to my Mac instead, (just like my iPhone backups)..
OMG 40GB!!! lol umm Mate I know on Android there is a WhatsApp folder which you can move to an SD as a backup. I recon there would be a simular folder on iPhone but you would maybe need 3rd party software to open it. Good luck, let me know if you find a solution as I would like to know as well.
