Makes sense to me. Unfortunately I got into saving boxes when I thought evolving at 144 was too much and thought I'll get this at 120.. never saw them there. Bought one to open at 180 and didn't hold one to save because I thought I'll see at pokemon center at 144 again.. nope. live and learn.

Ehhh.. I’m not an expert but I bought mine at $170… only 5!!! Listed on TCG … 5 total … and there was 1-2 sales a day.., didn’t take a genius to see demand outpaced supply :) . And this was 2 months ago ! Maybe 6 weeks !

Seeing prices go up and down like crazy right now is normal, but if you see it with a perspective from 2014-2018...nobody could've guessed anything like this.
A new Charizard card at $300? Maybe. But only Charizard had that power, and it wouldn't be for long. Virtually no modern cards back then hit even $50 raw.

Its important to remember that even though the BB's are going up, the packs themselfs are under msrp for every set besides ES. This points to either the fact that the booster boxes themselfs have become a highly sought after and collectible item, or possibly alot of speculation. But its important to remember, these packs arnt running away from everyone. You can still get packs affordably and open as much as you want. They havnt all been gobbled up. Only the booster boxes are running away, which is only an issue if you are intrested in collecting or speculating on the box itselfs.
Blister/sleeved Packs are a solid investment if you can't get the BB or you missed the boat. They usually see a respectable return on investment over time and like Rudy said. More and more people are ripping which will dwindle down the supply. Look at evolutions for example, $820 for a booster box. A sleeved pack is $30 which is a bigger ROI than the bb itself by a large margin ($260) so you don't need to fomo on BBs there are still options to be had on the solo packs.
What alot of people forget is swsh is last era with yellow borders
I seen his videos and I seen the crates that he bought two years ago of lost origins silver Tempest, and evolving skies. It was a huge flex. I seen it so when I seen him shining, I can be happy for him.

Your logic has always made sense. Buy at $80-$100 and you just can’t lose. The market has always dictated that it’ll eventually go up. After listening to you say that a year ago I bought a ton of Battle Styles, Fusion Strike, Chilling Reign, Lost Origin, and one case of Evolving Skies. I’m definitely sitting pretty now and I’m excited to see the day when all these sets (even Battle Styles) breaks $200.

Glad I genuinely enjoyed ES as a collectible and playable set. A few cards (not Moon, thank God) away from a master set, which includes some square-edge misprints. So many memories. It’ll be fun to peak at values now and then, but the binder is on the shelf to stay.
I think we owe this to pokemon 151. Many got into the hobby because of it, and now they want more. We see this because they are alt art and different from what people remember pokemon to be. Now it's like investing in art, because it is.

The story 11:30. An individual who worked the printing factory had stack of 151 mews, umbreons etc equivalent to 300-500k+, prior to price hikes. They tried to offload them all at once to a LGS. I wonder though if these cards were taken from packs there must be a tonnn of dud S&S packs out there.
the stacks of chase cards people "got from the factory" were from evolving skies i believe, specifically the eeveeloution alts if im remembering correctly

the biggest reason in my opinion, in my small little collecting corner, that everything is growing so fast is just the mass pack breaks that happen every day on TH-cam etc. I mean possibly 10s of thousands a day. So supply has never dried so fast. I remember waiting years to see gains then lost origin went from $90 to ?210 in just 8? Months.

it was fusion strike that had all the stolen factory alt arts, like Gengar and Espeon vmax etc.. everyone thought it would crash the price, but from what I heard they were discarded and trashed, therefore making some of the alt arts even more rare + valuable, but who knows. alt arts continue to be high demand.
Is there even an upper limit for how much they can print without crashing the market? Based on the reception for the S&V sets, we seem to have reached that point. But will sentiment shift again in 5 years time?
The stolen cards he mentioned was from Fusion Strike. The chase cards from that set are the Gengar VMAX alt which goes for over $300 (over twice the market price at the time of the incident) and the Espeon VMAX alt which goes for around $150 (almost twice the market price at the time of the incident)

It was not just Fusion Strike. I see Old pokemon posts on my Instagram feed, and I saw a stack of Rayquaza Vmax alt arts and Moonbreons.
@@pikabrewwa lot of the influencers went hard in the paint trying to cover up that whole story, shilling for the Pokémon company because a ton of them get free products and perks from them.

i really like your approach to pokemon investing as a whole been following the pokemon market for a long time and bought in on a much smaller scale in the last 2 years. my question to you is how do you choose when to unravel your position if you dont really need the capital. is it slowly over time or just hold everything until selling all at once. i know that really doesnt apply to you as much with the patreon plus your history holding for the long haul. but what would you recommend, like selling lower performing products to re invest in other product.

What effect do we think modern repricing will have on vintage sealed products, slabs and singles?
I cant tell you how many times I sold a moonbreon on eBay and got attacked by shill bids, with no payment. Ebay records these as legit sales no matter how many times I call them and tell then to delete the auction. AND report non payment.

There are plenty of third party platforms that can scrape eBay to see if items were actually paid for or not and ignore the sales they weren’t. Literally a dozen apps that do this

The big alt arts are hard to pull they were always undervalued the top alt art from each set was always 2/3 - 1 1/3 of box price but you have to open cases to pull it, printed to oblivion yes but with Scarlett & Violet being lack lustre people are chasing the sword & shield because it was better. box breaking isn’t profitable compared to market value.
Hard to pull but with so many boxes opened they're not exactly rare.

MTG is not collectible card game. MTG cards people want because they play with them and are priced for playability, not for collectability. Did you opened any SW&SH sets? Try to pull that Umbreon and let me know how how many thousands you spend before you really pull it. If you remember Kaladesh Masterpieces, then these are easy to pull in comparsion... They are rare. Especially now, when boxes are expensive.

The photo of cards that fell off the back of the truck from a few years back featured chase cards from Fusion Strike if I remember correctly.
The problem is you have too many vintage lovers. There are some great cards but a lot of them aren't worth much anyway. Modern cards have a ton of value because they have art styles and card types that never existed prior. I was lucky and bought my psa 10 Rayqueza in Feb for $380

If you sold all of your boxes in 2021, and bought back every box you sold today, you would have all the inventory you have today plus millions of dollars.
It’s easy to say when things happen already… point is you can still make money now that market is down.

However what happened in 2020/2021 in pokemon wasn’t a normal up tic, it was a very obvious bubble and mania. I would have thought that would have been obvious to someone like Rudy who is so involved in the industry.
The first half of Scarlet & Violet era has been pretty good, especially compared to the first half of Sword & Shield. I'm not sure why people are still downing it, other than by influence.
Mr. P Evolved and Temporal Forces have been my favorite so far. While Obsidian Flames was the lackiest of luster set so far (IMO) it's still a ton of fun. Trainer Gallery/Illustration Rare sub-sets really made the pack opening experience and the awsome cards to pull, way better.

They will sell out soon enough. The booster boxes are leading the way because they are the most attractive sealed product in terms of collectibility/storage space.
I'm glad that people can still open most of SWSH era under MSRP if they want to. They won't have that luxury 24 months from now.
