When you compare the whistle with videos, you have to look videos back to 2017. The Whistle in the video was a different one than today. Nice Review !

Dang, I only got the MTH Daylight back in mid-2020 because I thought it would be the only "true" scale of the GS-4. And it would be years before we had a scale model of the GS-4 Also at the time, BLI had no plans to make a GS-4 in diecast and the only one you could on eBay was the older brass Paragon2 that was almost in the $1k range. After I saw the BLI GS-4, it just looks so much better than my MTH. Yeah the MTH smoking whistle, but the BLI GS-4 looks more meaner, tougher, and more accurate to the prototype. I'm really considering selling my MTH one and getting the BLI one now.

Great video dude! I like the BNSF one you have. I got one too and I like it a lot. I agree with you; these locomotives are delivered by these manufacturers with nothing run them with. I would love for BLI to re-release the California Zephyr cars.

Very impressive and attractive model of the SP GS4 type locomotive, if I decide to purchase any of these models in the future I will most likely purchase a model in the postwar black/ silver paint scheme as that is my personal preference.

Whats the Kato part number for your two largest outer tracks? I just got this Daylight loco a d it binds in the curves an pops a driver off sometimes. Have you had any issues like that with yours? Thanks for all your great videos Matt!

The Broadway Limited one is the superior one all around and this is coming from someone who used to own the MTH version. You already stated all the reasons why it is better but one you forgot to mention is customer support. If your MTH one goes down, from my own experience and others who dealt with the final batch of MTH locos before Mike Wolf retired that have complete dogshit quality control, you are out of luck since they no longer support their HO products. BLI will take care of you if something happens with their stuff.
Also, if you switch to whistle 2, it is an accurate SP In-Service whistle from the 1950's and earlier. Since I model that era and have no interest in anything modern, I will be getting the non-4449 version Daylight and a War Baby.

It would be nice if the class lights were operational to wear you can adjust the brightness of them and switch between colors like scaletrains engines are.

Not to be that guy, but I guess I am going to be for a moment. The whistle is in fact accurate. That’s the whistle 4449 wears currently. The other whistle was the whistle she wore previously which is an sp 6 chime. The markers in the front are also in fact lit, just pretty poorly. Great review though!

All good things, at this point my biggest disappointment is the surging motor control it doesnt seem to be balanced or something

@@RodimusPrime I remember I picked up an sp&s 700 model and both had this issue. I think it’s partially a decoder problem otherwise they just weren’t meshed together properly. Mine is waiting at home for me, hopefully it doesn’t have this issue, but seemingly most do.

@@RodimusPrime yeah after some run time with mine, it does have a slight jerk running, but definitely not bad. Might just differ over every engine

I do think overall the new BLI release is the most accurate mass produced Southern Pacific GS-4. Since these engines had tweaks to their paint schemes it pays to know what version your model is representing. At some point many of the GS-4s had silver ladders and as delivered the train indicator boards were up front with silver paint. Unfortunately for manufacturers “Modern Steam” had many changes over their 10-20 year lifespan.

Im waiting for the dcc ready version myself, sound is definitely more accurate than previous versions but not close enough for me. The chuffing doesnt sound right, i want more whistle selections, i also want to add a few custom sounds as well.

MTH in my opinion is garbage for HO gauge. I am about 200 locomotive deep in HO gauge. Mostly brass and Broadway Limited. I have the 1981-2000 version and the front makers are lit on my model. I think Broadway did a fantastic job on this release.

You need rolling thunder module and subwoofer it will blow away MTH and not have that annoying sound of MTH smoke pump
